Cisco Switches :: SG300 Simple GVRP / Propagate VLAN Information From One To Other?
Aug 10, 2012I have 2 SG300 switches and all I want is to propagate VLAN info from one to other. I do not have computers with GVRP compliant NICs, so I dont want that auto registeration functionality on access ports. I want VLAN prop via trunks and switchport mode access on access ports just like VTP. I have read on cisco docs that this functionality is provided with GVRP Mode fixed, but there are only 2 modes that I can see on SG300 are Normal and Forbidden. Trunk configured correctly, gvrp is enabled globally and on port, ports are up and functional, tried different combinations of checking and unchecking boxes of dynmic vlan creation and enable registeration on both ends but no joy. When I create a vlan from one, it doesnt propogate to other.

Oct 2, 2012I have 2 NEXUS switches in VPC. When I create/delete a VLAN gets updated in the same switch, but the VLAN information does not get propagated to the neighboring switch. Revision number remains the same even if I modify the VLAN. Had also tried changing the VTP status to transparent mode & reverting it to client mode but no luck.Have double confirmed on the VTP domain names & password. However the same setup in different location which works perfectly fine.

Finally, what is the best practice to upgrade IOS in a stack whether to upgrade it 1 switch at a time or do it to all at once?

Apr 10, 2012Is there a way I can downgrade the firmware on a C3750 v2 switch 24TS-S v07 to 12.2(35) SE5. I have added this new switch to an existing stack but the FW is not compatable. I believe the answer is to upgrade the rest but I cannot afford any down time as they are used to run a CCTV securiy network 24/7. I have included details below to assist with my problem. SITE A - Cisco 3750 L3 - VLAN ID 50

SITE B - Cisco 3750 L3 - VLAN ID 50
10.20.50.0/24
I would like to extend the SITE A VLAN to SITE B so that I can move hosts from SITE A to SITE B without needing to change their IP address but the vlan ID is already in use. Obviously the easy solution is to change the VLAN ID for one or other of the sites but both sites contain hosts that run 24/7. Is there a way to join two VLANs with different IDs together.So for example I create a new VLAN 60 at SITE B and associate it with VLAN 50 at SITE A.

To remove the WiSM2, perform these steps:
Step1 Shut down the module by one of these methods: In privileged mode from the router prompt, enter the hw-mod module mod shutdown command. NoteIf you enter this command to shut down the module, you must enter the following commands in global configuration mode to restart (power down, and then power up) the module: Router# no power enable module modRouter# power enable module mod If the module does not respond to any commands, press the SHUTDOWN button located on the front panel of the module.
Step2 Verify that the WiSM2 shuts down. Do not remove the module from the switch until the POWER LEDis off.
But, in the case of Step1 (1st methods) I do not see a option "shutdown" in the command "hw-mod module 3"...

Jan 21, 2013Any example, tested on 3750-24/48TS and 3750G-24TS to remove the fan to make the switch more silent. I'm not interested in replies telling that is risky, I'm interested to know how is the switch acting. Has shutdown at overheating? I will use the switches only for my CCIE studies, a couple of hours per day, no heavy load.
I tested with 2950 switches are there were absolutely no problems, the devices were even in production.

Sep 28, 2012I'm Confused from the fact that Vlan tagging is done at access port and trunk port always gets tagged packets (untill its case of native vlan).But I still believe in other fact which says tagging happen only when a frame hit the trunk port which means trunk port gets untagged frame and tagging is not possible at access port.
Would like to know where actually this tagging happens ?
and also which command we can use to encapsulate 802.1q protocol to access port ? The way we do at trunk port is #switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q Is the above command applicable for access mode also?

Mar 4, 2012 i was trying to set up a new SG300-52 L3 switch for switching and Vlan. The problem is that the vlans on this switch cannot get their DNS resolved. Probably a stupid thing i can't get to see, but i think it is a simple solution given switchin is not my expertise.So my setup:
- ISP Wan router: LAN ip 10.0.0.1, DMZ: 10.0.0.2 -> i have to use this router for ISP support. But it suckes, that's why we use own router for firewall, port forwarding etc.
- Nice Router: WAN: 10.0.0.2, LAN: 192.168.1.1
- SG300 L3 switch
This works. I can ping switch, nice router, ISP router and google's ip from VLAN 5.But i cannot ping google using host name. From within SG300 i can. So it has something to do with SG300 not doing DNS right.My Client on VLAN 5 has ip 10.1.1.5 / 24, default gateway and dns pointing to switch: 10.1.1.1.I have put an entry in DNS servers in SG300: 192.168.1.1 active (pointing to Nice router). On client leave default gateway pointing to switch. But put DNS server : 192.168.1.1
