Sep 14, 2012

I have a Cisco3800 with IOS Version 12.3(14)T2 and I have an HWIC-1GE-SFP module inserted on it.

I need to know if there is a command to verify optical power level in this module inserted in the Cisco 3800 router?

Something similar to the following command that I can execute in an Cisco ASR9K:

show controllers Te0/0/0/1 phy | i Rx

Cisco Wireless :: AP Power Level Assignment 1252

Sep 1, 2011

We are using WiSM WLCs and WCS to control a variety of 1131,1142 and 1252 APs utilising AP groups.

I've noticed on WCS that the power of certain APs is at a low setting, even though the APs surrounding them are also at a low setting. This is causing some gaps to appear on the heatmaps. I was under the impression that the WLCs would regulate the AP power to compensate for any gaps. Currently the global TX power level assignment method algorithm is set to automatic every 600 sec.

Now, obviously I could change this to fixed (not ideal as I may not want all my APs to run at max power all the time) or to on demand (also not ideal due to the increased admin).

Is there a way I can verify that the automatic power levels are adjusting as they should? Why are there gaps appearing in my heatmaps?

*NB It's not just the gaps on the heatmaps, I'm getting reports of dropping wireless signals from users hence me looking at the heatmaps and they just happen to correspond.

WLC version 6.0.199.4
WCS version  7.0.172.0

Cisco Wireless :: Adjusting Maximum Power Level Assignment Value With AIR-CAP35021

May 1, 2012

I have a deployment of AIR-CAP35021 APs. They are in 2 buildings with multiple floors. They are installed in a row down the hallways. I want to increase the power levels by using the controller and not configuring the APs individually. I have set the TPC value to -50 but I still do not reach the outer walls of the floors in some areas. I need to know what to set the Max Power Level Assignment or Min Power Level Assignment to to get the APs to power up some more. If the MAX value is 30 and the default is 30 then how to adjust that value?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Faulty State In New Module Inserted In 4500

May 18, 2010

We inserted a new module with 48 rj45 ports  in a 4500 with just one supervisor module. We have two 4500, and we tried the new model in the other 4500 and it´s working properly and giving a OK status. Furthermore, the module´s LED status is green. We saw that there are 8 ports (from 17 to 24) that are in faulty state, so probably this is the cause for the faulty state for the module.

We tried already a Hw reset, replace/insert again the module...

We are almost sure that it can be a Hw failure. We are getting the following results different commands:

show module :

Mod Ports Card Type                                          Model                           Serial No.
7    48  10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45)                WS-X4548-GB-RJ45   JAXXXXXXXH

Need To Add A Router To Optical Network Terminal (ONT)

Aug 13, 2012

I have a ONT with a built in router but I need to install a separate router onto our network by connecting the router to the ONT. I need the extra router so that I could use some 3rd party hardware which can only be configured in D-link and Tp-link brand routers. I do not want to change the ONT system to the standard modem router system because the ONT also supports a system of internet phones. I'm curious if this is possible at all because a repair tech. told me that you could use the router as a transformer but so far it is not working. I'm really unfaimilar with the ONT configuration so I don't know if this plan can actually work . So far the router can not recieve a WAN connection and therefore can not obtain a Ip address.

Cisco WAN :: ASR1000 - Encryption Over Metropolitan Optical Ethernet

Mar 1, 2012

We're installing ASR1000 series (ASR1001 and ASR1006) routers on a new WAN and have a requirement to enrypt the traffic between the EIGRP neighbors.  Each ASR will be connected to the MOE with a gig interface and we will be using L3 on the interfaces with EIGRP as the routing protocol. We have advipservices-k9 IOS-XE

The ASR1006 is our datacenter WAN router and all remote sites have the ASR1001s.  The ASR1006 WAN interface will be configured with L3 subinterfaces, one to each remote location, using a /30 mask.

What is the best method to encrypt the traffic between the ASR1006 WAN interface and the remote ASR1001 WAN interface?

Cisco VPN :: Verify NAT On ASA 5510 Working?

Aug 16, 2011

I'm working on setting up a site-to-site VPN connection that requires us to NAT an internal address.  Typically, this would be no big deal, but for some reason, it's not working for us.  The remote site is reporting that they are seeing the original IP address and not the mapped address coming across.  I've monitored the connection and base on our ASA logs, I too see the un-mapped address.

Is there a quick and easy way of verifying that NAT is working?  Logs, etc.?

Unfortunately I don't currently have the remote side's configuration, as they are an external business, but I can provide ours: [code]

Based on the above, it sounds as if our configs aren't jibing, which I would think could be caused by the NAT configuration not working, right?  I mean if the VPN applicance on the remote end is expecting a NAT-ed address of 12.131.67.247 and they are receiving 12.10.127.108, that could cause this issue, couldn't it?

Cisco Wireless :: To Verify Multicast With WLC 5508

Dec 25, 2012

I used the wlc 5508 GUI to enable multicast in the CONTROLLER section, AP Multicast mode "Multicast" with a group address 239.1.1.1. Also in the "Multicast" section enabled Global Multicast Mode and IGMP Snooping.

My wired network is using a bsr and pim sparse-mode all around.  My wlc is connected to a core 6513 L3 switch and on a neighbor L3 switch I can see a shared tree mroute entry and a source based entry for the wlc multicast group I created,

sh ip mroute
( *, 239.1.1.1 )

( 192.168.0.1, 239.1.1.1 )

I can't ping 239.1.1.1 though from anywhere, even the wlc's gui using the ping tool.I can do an ip igmp join on a loopback and ping from a neighbor device and get a reply.

In the monitor multicast section of the gui I can see some Layer2 MGID entries and one in the Layer3 MGID section but not for the 239.1.1.1 address. How do I verify my multicast over wireless setup is working correctly?
