Cisco :: WCS-3-0 Log / Event Queue Seems Full?

Nov 8, 2011

The WCS haven't have new event since the count of event goes 40000.And, the wcs-3-0.log shows INFO[stspoll] Event Queue seems full.In the FAQ which says:#The WCS keeps the last 40,000 events in the system and clears them up after seven days. An event or alarm can have 1000 bytes on average.shouldn't it clears them up after seven days? how to clean events by manual?

Cisco :: 5508 - Error Messages / Receive Multicast Queue Is Full On Controller

Jan 25, 2012

I'm starting to see an error creep up that I havn't seen since 2003/2004 on my brand new 5508 controllers.  I'm recieving the following from my WCS: Receive Multicast Queue is full on Controller and then on the controller itself RX Multicast Queue Full.  I understand this used to be due to a large influx of ARP requests or CDP packets on older controllers but, this was supposed to be fixed in an update many years ago.

Has seen this on their 5508's.  These were advertised as having the horsepower to handle our user loads which arn't really that high at 300 users at any given time max.

Cisco :: 2431 EEM Applet Event From SIP Syslog Message

Jul 27, 2011

I want to use an EEM applet on a Cisco IOS 2431 voice gateway running 15.1(2)T to take action upon expiration of a SIP registration (with its sip registrar).  I thought that it might be possible to use existing error messages generated by the ios sip application to trigger an EEM applet. Is there a reference that lists all SYSLOG messages that SIP can generates, and their error levels?  Can you show me how to turn on syslog messages, so that I can cause a SIP registration expiration on my GW and then see what SYSLOG messages are produced?

I think I understand how to write an applet and its event trigger from a SYSLOG message pattern, but I am having trouble seeing any SIP error messages at all, except if I turn on Debug, which usually produces way too many messages and may impact performance.

Cisco :: ASA5510 - Event Primary Firewall Fails

Jun 6, 2011

The client is only interested to have one-WAN(MPLS) and One internet circuit with Dual ASA5510 primary/failover configuration. In the event primary firewall fails, there is no direct WAN/internet connection to failover firewall. I beleived that  to mitigate the issue,  I needed to add a layer 3 switch , and have each circuit (MPLS/Internet) or (modems/routers) connect to a L3 switch. L3 switch will do the vlan based routing based on the state of firewall. ? am i correct?  The client want automatic failover to secondary firewall in the event the actual firewall failed without impacting the day to day business.

Cisco Wireless :: 1242 / How To Force Clients DHCP Renew On Mobility Event

Aug 24, 2011

I have a (single) client (it is a cisco IOS router) behind a wireless workgroup bridge (cisco1242).The client's IP address is obtained via DHCP from the wired network. Now, when roaming occurs, the Client will never have knowledge about this event, and hence will not renew its IP address until lease expiers. This is not a problem of course when Layer 2 roam occurs, but with Layer 3
roam it will interrupt the traffic.

The cisco's IP Mobile implementation does have this issue addressed in DCCoA scenario: the WGB is configured to send an SNMP trap on its dotradio state change;the cisco mobile router is configured with snmp-server manager to process this trap and start DHCP renew on the Down/Up event. Unfortunately, this works in Mobile IP scenario only because I cannot make it work without the mobile router registered with a home agent.

how to force DHCP renew on a client (cisco IOS router) in such a situation - event scripting, SLA,  or ...?

Cisco Wireless :: Root 1410 Bridge Not Showing RSSI Poll In Event Log

Apr 18, 2013

A customer has a wireless PTP bridge using a pair of 1410 bridges.  The non-root bridge event log shows the RSSI polling information message indicating the link's signal strength; ie. -42 dBm.  It updates every few seconds or so.  The root bridge does not show this information in the event log.  Both bridges have the event log configuration options set identically, all messages types are enabled.  I can't find any reference to this in the documents.  Is this by design?  I thought that maybe a root bridge if it was set up as a multi-point might be overwhelmed if it was showing/scrolling RSSI from multiple non-roots.

Cisco WAN :: 3750E - SRR-Queue And Traffic Prioritization?

Jul 12, 2011

I have two goals on my Cisco 3750E -

* Limit bandwidth to match carrier provided bandwidth (10M ethernet port, but only 6M provisioned)

* Prioritize some traffic over others through the use of a priority queue.

I have come up with this design:

access-list 100 remark priority traffic
access-list 100 permit ip 10.1.1.0 0.0.3.255 any
access-list 100 permit ip any 10.1.1.0 0.0.3.255

[Code]....

How do I know?  Is there a show command to show priority packets?

Am I right in assigning dscp 46 to this interesting traffic?  That way it goes to queue 2?

Am I right in applying the priority-queue out command to the interface?

We also have voice traffic.  But I think i can trust it to queue up into the router with trusted dscp

We're testing the reference system shown in the figure below. System Description Four 2960 switches are used for transport;Equipment 1 and Equipment 2 exchange packets for synchronization; To reach synchronization  Equipment 1 and 2 must exchange data with a very low jitter. 2960 Configuration details Four our test puprose, we're using 100Mbit/s ports (22 and 23) as trunk. In order to obtain minimum jitter We performed these configurations:We Enabled QoS;We Marked Synchronization packets with CoS 7 and DSCP 63;We marked other kind of traffic inserted in different ports) with CoS 0;We set "trust DSCP" on trunk ports; On the trunk ports we mapped traffic with CoS 7/DSCP 63 (and only this) on output queue 1;We enabled the expedite queue (priority-queue out). QuestionWith these settings we aim at forcing our synchronization packtes to precede other kind of traffic and go from Equipment 1 to Equipment 2 with minimum jitter.Unfortunately we experienced  high jitter when both synchronization packets and other traffic are sent through the systems.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - How To Decide On Which Queue / Threshold To Use

Mar 8, 2012

I am working on a QoS design which I hope to test at some point, but at this stage its from the books. My question is how to decide which queue and threshold to use for video traffic, then lower priority traffic.I understand the shaping and sharing commands, its the queuing and threshold bit I'm not clear on.The plan is to use the priority-queue for EF marked voice, this will be policed on ingress to provide an upper limit to EF traffic levels, then my second priority traffic will be video. Which queue will get serviced first once the priority queue is empty, and how do I decide which threshold to allocate my video traffic to? The document ion is not at all clear, I want to prioritse my traffic in the following order:

1 voice, use the priority queue
2 video, this to get serviced ahead of data, after voice.
3 interactive data
4 Bulk data
5 Best effort

So Q1 settings are ignored due to priority queue. Q2 gets 70%, Q3 25% etc.Is it as simple as putting video into Q2 T1, then interactive data into Q2 T2, will Q2T1 get a higher priority over Q2 T2 once the PQ is serviced?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: QoS / Queue Drops On 3750 Switches?

Apr 30, 2013

We currently have a  site with a very simple topology that uses a 3750X switch stack for a  collapsed core. Everyday, the users have a conference call and  experience poor voice quality. Its not bad when users call from several  conference phones, but when everyone calls in on individual phones,  there is choppy and almost inaudible voice quality experienced. The  voice traffic flow would be as follows: Phone <-> 3750 switch  <-> Voice GW We  have packet captures showing that RTP packet loss is occuring from the  phone to the voice gateway, but none from the voice gateway to the  phones. We also have drops in the output queues that match drops on the  asics. I can reset the counters and they will be clear until the call,  and then they increment significantly during the call. The voice gateway  and phones are non-Cisco. The switch stack has 6 switches. We are trusting the DSCP settings on the  phones. All the queue drops from the phones are usually in queues 0-3,  but all drops on the voice gateway is in queue 0. Below are the QoS  settings; they are mostly default and we have not changed any queuing,  thresholds, or buffers. Should we specify larger buffers and threshold  for a designated queue and send EF traffic to that queue?

MySwitch#sh mls qos
QoS is enabled
QoS ip packet dscp rewrite is disabled
 Typical Port
GigabitEthernet1/0/4
trust state: trust dscp
