Cisco Wireless :: 5508 Assign Single Ssid To Multiple Interface Groups By Assigning Ssid To Multiple AP Groups

Aug 26, 2012

Is it possible to assign a single ssid to multiple interface groups by assigning the ssid to multiple AP groups?

I have buildings geographically dispersed that are configured with multiple vlans in interface groups so that I can maintain an addressing scheme of dhcp assigned addresses per building.  Each building is also further grouped as AP groups.  I'd like to know if by assigning the same wlan ssid to each of the AP groups, will I maintain addressing integrity for each building?  I'm thinking it will work.

Do the buildings have to be outside AP range of each other to avoid problems?

5508 controller
7.2.110.0  code
6 buildings
6 interface groups
1 ssid

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 Single SSID / Two ACLs

Jul 16, 2012

I am setting up a Cisco 5508 wireless controller and was looking for some feedback or assistance.  Basically I already have my guest SSID configured and functioning.  Created an interface group containing my vlans and applied the created ACL "Guest Policy - internet only", which is also working.I want to setup a second SSID called "staffstudent" and use RADIUS for authentication.  I have already created two separate network policies on the radius server: staff and student.  Each only allows certain user groups.  I want to be able to differentiate on the controller side which profile they are logging in on and then apply the correct ACL.  I have two currently configured:  one for staff and one for student.  It appears to me that since you have to apply the ACL at the interface level I cannot use both since my interface is accepting both staff and students.  Is there a way I can filter them using RADIUS so that when they login RADIUS can return a "student" value and then apply the correct ACL?  Same for staff?

Single SSID For Primary And Secondary DD-WRT Wireless Router

Feb 22, 2013

I have more than 5000 sq. ft home and have some dead places other end of the house. Now I am looking for Range Extender/Repeater to boost signal. My primary wireless router is Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 and Secondary Linksys E3000 (planning to update firmware to DD-WRT). So I wanted something such that I can roam between the two routers without switching SSID (use single SSID name for primary and secondary DD-WRT routers) and connect automatically to whichever the best signal (or) strength router. In work place we have same thing like that single wireless SSID name which automatically connect wireless SSID from one end to another end of the building.

Cisco Wireless :: 1142n - Multiple Vlans With Single SSID

Oct 12, 2011

I have two 1142n LWP ap converted into standalone, as client doesn't have any controller there. They just want to extend their network via wireless.

L3 switch (trunk port gig 1/48) -----> connected to AP1
L3 switch (trunk port 2/48) -----------> connected to AP2

client is looking for 3 vlans on the floor ( users might multiple vlans might associated same AP ). They have a dedicated DHCP/DNS server and he will be configuring 3 vlans on L3 switch with correct ip helper address on SVI interfaces.

I'm i allowed to created 3 SSID's on 1142n standalone AP ?

What would the various optiosn to achieve this requirement ? Is there any simplest way to achieve this ? Do i need to go for 802.1x ? I remember client told their users are authenticating by using AD for wired network. This is their first request for wireless environment

Cisco Wireless :: Configure Multiple VLAN On Single SSID In 1142N

Apr 2, 2013

I have around 60 , 1142 N APs . As of now i have only management VLAN ( for IP ) & one user vlan 350 configured on the access point . All the users connect to VLAN 350 and they get IP as required. However in our new set up there are couple of requirements have come up were in SSID will be the same however we have created many VLANs for different kind of user group and all these VLANs should be mapped to this single SSID and pick the IPs from their respective VLANs .

We have done configuration on the RADIUS server side were in we have mapped the users in their respective VLANs and they are getting authenticated via AD . Now how do i map my these 4-5 VLANs in a single SSID in Access Point.

Cisco Wireless :: To Use WAP 4410 As A Repeater

Sep 21, 2012

I have spent countless weekends trying to configure the WAP 4410 as a wireless repeater.  From what I see the instructions and help screens seem to be incomplete or the WAP is not capable of this function even though it is available. It will not connect to the modem wirelessly as a repeater.  I have tried numberous settings including the same channel and SSID without avail.  As soon as I disconnect it from the wireless modem it will no longer connect to the internet.I have an older WRT 610N which will connect to the modem as a repeater so I don't think it is at the modem end.Searches have indicated others with a similar problem but I don't see any viable solutions except to buy and connect to another WAP 4410.Contacting Cisco for suppor by chat t has been pointless. Either they are not available when I am or they are clueless.

Wireless G And N Network With Same Or Different SSID?

Oct 18, 2012

Wireless Equipment

D-link DIR-655 router set to only N
Old Netgear Router used as access point set to only G (I set up as an access point by turning off DHCP, changing the IP adresss and set to only G.)
Wireless Printer (only G Capable)
Cell Phone (only G Capable)
2 Laptops (both N capable)
iPad (N Capable)
Roku Media Box (N capable)

Problem: If I put the router and access point on the same SSID then equipment that is N capable will connect to the G network. If I use two different SSID's then the printer is unreachable. Is there a way of either (a) having two SSID's but allow the printer to be seen or (b) having one SSID, with separate access points for N and G but not allow N functioning client to connect to the G access point.

Wan't To Create 2 Wireless Network With Single Router?

Sep 25, 2012

I am using D link DIR 615 router for my network. My ISP sent me a letter few days ago that they can provide me total separate wireless connection other than my regular connection. But they will charge me $10/month for this. just wondering do we have any way to create two separate wireless network so that my clients can access that free wireless connection when they are in my store. But on the other side they don't interfere with my regular connection and its good for my network security too.

Wireless Network Without Broadcasting SSID?

Jul 16, 2011

Several days ago I had to change my router. The new one works OK except that I can't get the PC to link into the wireless while the SSID isn't being broadcast. Having read that it is a good idea not to broadcast the SSID for security reasons, I thought I would try it!

I am running Windows 7 home Premium and the router is a Draytek Vigor 2710 using WPA2. I can see the network when the SSID isn't being broadcast, it just refuses to connect to it. As soon as I switch on the SSID it connects like a dream.

Setting Up A Single Wireless Network Across A Number Of Houses?

Jul 27, 2012

As the title states, I am want to set up a single ADSL connection, using 1 router across 6 apartments. The apartments are 2 floors and from the top they look like this The Router is on Apartment 1. Between apartment 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and 5 and 6 is a normal cement wall. Between 3 and 4 is Cement and stone, so are the outside walls of each house. I was thinking of doing it simple and using 3-4 range extenders such as the Linksys RE1000. From what i searched on the internet, and what the documentation states, the signal will get bottle-necked for the last house due to the RE1000 giving half of the bandwidth. Quote from Linksys FAQ: Quote: 7. Can I add more than one RE1000 to my existing wireless network? Yes. But since the RE1000 only gets half of the wireless signal from your main router or access point, adding multiple range extenders can provide you with even lower signal, thus, giving lesser bandwidth to your wireless computers or devices that you are going to connect to these additional extenders. So, what would be an optimal solution to this? Should I go ahead and install the RE1000's? Is there something better that i can do?

Cisco Wireless :: 1142 - Aironet Configuration For Single Subnet Network

Feb 1, 2012

We have recently aquired a remote location which has a pre-existing flat network (172.16.X.X/16). Before we are able to convert them over to our new IP scheme, they have a need to have wireless connectivity on site. We have 4 1142's which I need to configure for them. I have experience configuring WLC's and autonomous AP's for networks with multiple vlans but have never configured AP's for a flat, single subnet network. I need to configure them for either guest access (internet only) or corporate access to network resources with radius authentication. Do I configure a native vlan as I would for a typical multi vlan network? Do I configure the switch port as an access port as opposed to a trunk beacause of the lack of layer 3? I basically need a sample configuration for this situation.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt160n - Original Network SSID Had Been Changed?

Oct 8, 2009

I have a wrt160n router set up at a friends house that i would connect my windows xp laptor to when i would go there.  it always worked fine. i recently got a new laptop with vista 64 bit OS.  i went to my friends today and connected via wireless for the first time.  i expected to get prompted for the security key.  instead it asked for the pin #.  the pin number was something new i noticed when i replaced an older linksys with the new wrt160n so i had it in my notes.  i entered the pin number and connected to the wireless router.  but then my friend laptop could not connect and said it couldnt find the network.  when i viewed the available networks, i noticed that the original network SSID had been changed to my vista laptop's computer name.  i had to physically connect my laptop to the router and reconfigure the settings of the wireless network. then my friend was able to see the available network and automatically connect..
