Using Network Assistant in XP, plugged ethernet cable to first front port and keep getting "Failed to get Default Gateway. Check your security settings to make sure the current Java Virtual Machine is not prevented from running commands.", I have tried reducing secruity to nothing but I still get the same problem.
I also have an official cisco console cable and tried that, but Hyperterminal just does not pick it up when plugged in. I have left the IP dynamic, turned off all netowork adapters apart from ethernet, set the baud rate etc... correctly, still no joy.
Iv had this problem with two wireless repeaters now. when im connected to just the router, i am able to access the internet. however when i plug in and set up the wireless repeater ( the latest one is a amped wireless sr300) it works for a few min and then i get a "DNS lookup failed" when trying to access sites. this repeater replaced a hawking hwren1. which would work for a few min and then lose the network.i believe this is a problem with our internet connection into the house, but could it be a caused by the router? (wrt400n) our isp says its not their problem and that its our router, but this is the 4th one in under a year.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having an issue with my internet connection, which has been getting a lot worse over the past 1 month. I purchased the WRT120N about a year and a half ago, and occasionally observed dropped connections, but it was no big deal. Over teh past month or so, however, it seems like I get the "DNS lookup failed" error about every 15-30 minutes. Every time, I have to disconnect and reconnect my computer to my router. In addition, I will be disconnected from XBox Live. This problem may occur every 5 minutes or every few hours.
I have updated the firmware on the router. I have reset the router, and have reset DNS 1 t0 8.8.8.8 and DNS 2 to 8.8.4.4. THe network is configured as a DHCP. The X-Box has a wired connection, and my laptop experiences this problem whether I use a wired connection or a wireless one.
I been having trouble with my pc ... it looks like it wants to load the page and takes forever and then it says DNS lookup failed ... sometimes it loads but I have to keep trying until it does load.. It's a Windows XP
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I just got a new Acer ultrabook and it was working fine until a few days ago. It keeps saying the DNS lookup failed. I've tried everything I can. I made sure it wasn't chrome, doesn't work in Firefox. Reset the modem, did a DNS dump, set the DNS to a 888thing. Utorrent is connecting to the internet fine and I can connect for random periods of time. If I do trouble shoot over and over eventually it starts working. Everyone else in my house gets internet even my sister with the same computer and model.

ANd now it will only connect to the network but wont give internet access. I can connect to the same router using an ethernet cord. And I can connect to the wireless network using my phone or other computer. There are no driver updates for my network adapter, and I tried reconfiguring the router. That worked for a short period of time, but now I have the same issue. I tried a system restore back to before a recent virus software update to see if maybe that update was causing the firewall to block something.

Yesterday my internet just went out. All of the lights on the modem are still on everything says it should be connected but just doesnt work. When i try to open webpages it says DNS Lookup failed. Called tech support they are sending me a new modem atm, but i have 2 other ones around that i have tried and they say that im connected to the internet, but nothing same lookup error and everything so i do not think it is the modem. Flushed dns, manually entered the isps dns , Dont know what else to try at all.

To get internet on my desktop (used for games), I had connected my laptop to the pc, and the laptop picked up wifi from my AT&T gateway in another part of the house. ( I can't move the gateway currently) I have been wanting to connect the desktop to a router/repeater/bridge that would pick up my gateway signal, therefore eliminating the use of the laptop. I also have an Xbox right next to the pc, so I din't want to get an adapter because then I would have to purchase two, so I picked up a a wireless n router with 4 ethernet ports. ( then I could connect both systems using 2 ethernet cables) [URL] I knew when purchasing the router that it had repeater/bridge support. Currently, I have it configured as a wifi bridge. I can connect to it via my laptop, on the wireless networks page, it shows my gateway signal, and the bridge/router, so I connect to the router. It says I have excellent connection, but I can't connect to the internet? Using Google Chrome, it says DNS lookup failed. I can't get on any website, only the router's config page, which is 192.168.1.1. I also connected the router to my pc, and when troubleshooting it says DNS server not responding, may be non existant or incorrect?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to goto a webpage within any browser,despite me being connected to my network(though 1 received packet to every 20 or so sent packet ratio) it tells me that DNS lookup failed. I had a similar issue on my other pc that I use more often,though connecting through WIFI momentarily resolved the issue,before I returning to wired,where everything has been fine. My other pc however has no wifi adapter. So ive been stuck.

We have a pair of Cisco 1310 bridges configued betweeen 2 buildings the config on each is simple one as a root bridge the other as non root no spanning tree is running and source route learning is turned off. We had both on in the past. One side of the network has a link out to the internet. About 3 -4 times a day the IP address on the default gateway becomes unreachable i.e cant be pinged. Only a reboot of one or other of the bridges corrects the issue. This happens only during the day when the netwrok is in use. When this happens everything inside the network works fine and everybody can see everybody else. The ISP can see intot eh network and can ping our devices but we cannot see out of the network.

The LWAP is connected to a 2690 switch which has a trunk connected to the router. My configuration looks very similar to example 2 on this page: [URL] . The LWAP does get an IP from the DHCP pool on the router. I can also connect to the GUI of the controller from a PC on VLAN 250 (which also is connected to the switch).

The moment I join my Wireless network I get no IP and when I enter a valid static IP, I still can't ping the gateway. I also noticed that the controller could ping the gateway before I configured the interface. After configuring an interface with that gateway, the controller loses the ability to ping to it. I can't seem to figure out why. I've been working all week on getting this controller and LWAP to broadcast a fully working network.
My computer will only run on ethernet cable, the network can be found but only connects for a second, connects to the internet in and out, it gives the error, default gateway is not available, or problem with the wireless network adapter. The manufacturer is HP

So i am trying to Set up a wireless repeater so i can have a better signal in my back yard but i could not set the configurations for my repeater because the gateway (ip address? Not really sure what it is called) would not work when i entered it into the browser. So i went into command prompt to make sure i had the right gateway and it did not even exist.

Although i cannot remember if i caused it to start working again. My laptop wireless hardware has disabled itself. I have a win 7 netbook that I recently got and for some reason it suddenly cannot keep a connection to the internet. It used to keep a connection before but now I keep getting the error the default gateway is not available about every ten minutes while connected which of course is very frustrating.
I've tried updating all associated drivers but apparently that hasn't changed anything. I've tried restarting the computer and tried different connections. I know its nothing to do with the internet connection I'm trying to connect to as other devices are able to keep a connection with no issue.
I have a WRT54GX2 router and my laptop is connected wirelessly to the router. It worked fine before but now, the connection is only local, it's not connected to the internet.On the router, it says: Default Gateway: 0.0.0.0.I think that it should say 192.168.1.1 instead.I tried dhcp release and renew but it didn't work.The firmware version is 1.01.22.

I have been using the booster for well over a month with no issues whatsoever; however, tonight I attempt to get onto World of Warcraft and I keep getting disconnected every 5 minutes. After I run the diagnostic it fixes the problem and says that the "default gateway not available". I tried restarting the router, restarting the booster, unplugging the wireless adapter, checked the firewall, and also restarted my computer.

When I configure the TD-8968 all works well, it syncs but does not connect to internet. When I diagnose the connection the modem pass tests at ATm level but is not able to find the default gateway. I got another modem (the one to be substituted with the 8968) that it works with the configuration I am triying to use. Is there some step I am missing or is the modem faulty?

I have 3 IPsec Site-to_SIte tunnels.
I noticed that when the NEW UNIT becomes ACTIVE that I am unable to pass traffic over the VPN tunnels.When I failback I am able to pass traffic.
I am currently running WCS 7.0.230 I have controllers that are 2500 that are running 7.4.100.60?
My problem is that when I try to add my controller that is a Cisco 5500 running the same 7.4.100.60 I am getting the error SNMP operation to Device failed: Sparse table not supported. Verify that the WCS and WLC versions are compatible and try again.
I have double checked SNMP strings, IP Addressing and everything else I can think of. It just doesn't make sense that I can add a Controller with the same image but different hardware and no the other to the WCS server.
I can connect to the internet via wireless just fine, and everything will be hunky-dory for a while. After a while, however (this varies anywhere from a day to a week), there will be a small hiccup on the connection, and then something fails in the Acquiring Network Address stage. My computers will get an IP, but they will not get the default gateway or DNS server.I have tried a plethora of fixes, from simple computer reboots to fiddling with all sorts of settings, and nothing works to reestablish the connection. My father has also tried fixing it, to no avail. I have to go and reset my router, which also interrupts TV service, because it is through AT&T U-Verse. Needless to say, this does not make other people in the household very happy, and I really shouldn't have to be resetting my router every couple of days like that. My PC uses a Netgear WG111v3 adapter and is Windows XP. My laptop has on-board Wifi and is Windows XP Professional.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to add a WRT54g2 to my LAN. I'd like it to communicate with my existing LAN router, and not to talk directly to the LAN. Therefore, in Basic Setup, I don't have the top part (Internet Setup) configured. Is that a mistake?But, it seems that when I enable DHCP, it hands out its own IP as gateway, and then doesn't seem to send the traffic on upstream. When I configure clients manually with the real router IP, they work fine.
So, I'd like, I guess, Linksys to forward traffic on a static route to real router. How do I do this? Adding a route to real router yields the error, "maybe default route already exists."
I am using a WRT310N. I have a Cisco ASA5505 as my firewall and don't need the routing capabilities of the WRT310N. So I just plug the LAN port on the WRT310N directly to my LAN switch. I just need the WRT310N to have an IP address for management. So I configure the LAN with an IP address, but there is no way to set the default gateway on the LAN. You can only set the default gateway on the WAN interface, which I don't use, since I am using this in an AP only type of configuration.

Now that our cable has been restored I noticed that the wireless internet wasn't working. The wired internet works fine to this computer but no Wi-fi.I think the problem is the routers default gateway. It's supposed to be 192.168.1.1 but right now it's 24.191.112.1 .So far I have tried:
-Powercycling everything
-ipconfig/ flush DNS
-ipconfig/ release and ipconfig/renew
-Checking all the wires are pugged in fine (They are).
I have my E1200 connected to my Netgear FVS318 router (which is a wired router) and the Netgear is connected to the internet.When a wireless client attempts to connect to the internet after automatically receiving an IP from the E1200, they do not have internet access as the default gateway that gets assigned is the IP of the E1200 192.168.2.100, which is not correct. It should be assigned 192.168.2.1, which is the IP of the Netgear router. Thefore, I have to manually set their IP addresses to use 192.168.2.1. How do you configure the E1200 to assign the correct Default Gateway IP to wireless clients who want to use DHCP?
