We are going to implement high availabilty in 5508 WLC with version of 7.3.101 . We will be using Prime infrastructure 1.2 for monitoring purpose.With Prime, whether we can monitor and manage redundant WLC also or only active WLC?.
View 3 RepliesMy questions is in relation to disaster recovery, for wireless. We have our main data center, in the US, with two 5508 controllers. We have a DR location, in Europe, with two 5508 controller. We're upgrading our 5508's to the 7.4 code, so that we can take advantage of the RP port for our controllers. With that said, is there a way to make the US and Europe controllers redundant?
If there's a disaster, in the US, would the AP licensing, and AP's attach to the European controllers? Our AP's are set up with HA. I'm more concerned about the licensing flipping over to the DR controllers. I've tried researching this topic, and can't really find anything on it.
I have 2x WLC 5508 running version 7.2. 1st one is setup and running. My questions is: If I want to setup Active-Passive redundancy, do I need to manually setup the 2nd one exactly as the 1st one and put them in the same group? Or is it a way to copy all of the configs I made on the 1st one over to the 2nd one?
View 4 Replies View RelatedOur organization has multiple controllers at regional sites (one per region) & want to implement redundancy by placing one controller at headquarter's datacentre as a backup in case the site's failed.All our controllers are 5508 with 7.0.116.0 loaded I did a search around and found multiple documentations of how to do it but all related to creating a mobility group?Is it possbile to implement this scenario without creating mobility group ? (As in Cisco docs for software release 7.0 June 2010 - quoted "Centralized and regional controllers do not need to be in the same mobility group" )

1. Does the appliance has any license coming with it or we need to order the license separately?
2. If I have an WLC 5508 (license support 12 APs) & 12 3500 APs, then number of devices counted will be 1 (WLC) or 12 (APs) or 13 (WLC + APs) ?
Management purchased a HA package from Cisco consisting of 2 5508's with pre installed 500 users license on the Primary WLC and none on the secondary WLC. We have 5508's already so I am familiar with setting them up and so forth. What I am not familiar with is setting them up using HA for failover and license sharing. I've looked and looked and can't find documentation online showing how to set this up. I have found some but nothing that is complete. I have spent 2 days spinning my wheels.

When I start "Upgrade Analysis" and select switch (Catalyst WS-C2960S-24PS-L) and image (c2960s-universalk9-mz.150-2.SE2.bin) then click to "Run report"
Prime shows me that "Image not Applicable for this Device" I try different images, but it does not work.
And with WLC 5508 the same trouble. Why Prime can't do right analysis and updates devices?
I have newly deployed a Prime Infrastructure (PI) in my network, and i want to add my wirless controller in it. I get an error SNMP time out whenever i add my controller to PI through SNMP.
There are default SNMP configurations in the controller and i am simply adding them in PI with their private/public SNMP string.
WLC 5508 is connected to my core switch and PI is connected to another switch which is directly connected to core switch via Layer 3.
Is there any configuration required to be done on the switch side.?
I am looking for a "no marketing babble" explanation of what exactly Cisco Prime Infrastructure does, that the built in 5508 Wifi administration console and Cisco Network Assitant does not do.I already use the "Cisco UC560 Configuration Assistant", the "Cisco Network Assistant" for our switches, and the "Wifi 5508 web admin console", and I am fine with that.At another site where I work, that is now going with Cisco Wifi, it is suggested that "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" be purchased.Is it important to me to have a "single pane of glass" view of the entire network? NO IT IS NOT.
All this marketing babble about having everything converged and accessible for mobile BYOD users. Yeah, that's great, but what is Cisco Prime Infrastructure actually going to do about all the mobile wifi devices coming in to the network that MUST use a web proxy to get out of our network? Many don't deal with proxy.pac correctly or don't read it at all, unless that function is explicitly turned on, by the individual device owner, in an often hidden location in their device settings. I am mainly looking at the $3000 a year price for Prime Infrastructure and going, no way, the Cisco Network Assistant and 5508 Wifi web console that are thrown in for free with the new hardware is fine with me.
We are currently running WCS but have built a new Prime Infrastructure 1.3 system from scratch on a brand new server, we have sucessfully migrated the old WCS database on to the new Prime server and as a test I have pointed 1 anchor controller to it. Possible to point the WLC's to both WCS and Prime Infrastructure concurrently - I was thinking that it would be a quick fallback if we has any problems with Prime (I know there have been some!) We are not running MSE but we do have mobility groups, the WLC's are 5508 running 7.0.235.3 .

These AP's are not configured as Spectrum Intelligence on the controllers, rather as local. It seems that NCS believes that they are supposed to be SI. We have refreshed the config from controller many times but this does not change. The 5508's run v.7.2.111.3 Is there a change I can make on NCS or otherwise to make this mismatch go away? Is this a bug? It is not causing any problems (that we can see) but as most would rather not have these mismatches.
I'm trying to do configuration archiving in Prime Infrastructure 1.2 with a 5508 WLC (7.4).The job always fails (Admin -> Background Jobs) with the following error (see attachement):"SNMP: Failed to establish SNMP connection xxxx - Cause: Device is Unreachable. Check the ReadOnly community string." I double checked the SNMP credentials, they do match. For testing I also added a Public community just for the PI. Same result.Am I missing something?Is this not intended for Wireless Controllers?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 on Windows 2003 under VMware and just got upgrade licensing for Prime Infrastructure 1.2. I am assuming that I will need to upgrade the current server to Prime LMS 4.2 in order to ensure that data migration to Prime Infrastructure goes well. I am planning to follow Cisco's recommendation to run Prime LMS and Prime Infrastructure in parallel for a time and migrate individual functions.
My real question is about Syslog handling. All of the managed devices are currently sending Syslog data to LMS. As a last step in the migration, is it possible to change the IP address of the Prime Infrastructure server to replace the Prime LMS server so that the Prime Infrastructure server will just start getting all the Syslog data, or do I need to go change hundreds of managed devices to point to a new address?

I have one 1552 with the gigabit ethernet connected to the gigabit ethernet to another device that has a point-to-point link with another device where have a ethernet connection with a switch in the same broadcast domain where i have my WLC.
Next to this 1552 i have another 1552 that have the same situation, both with omnidirectional antenna.
I would like to have a Mesh connection with these two 1552 in 5Ghz, because if some point-to-point link is down i need redundancy to the WLC and my network, because i have some clients connected in the 2.4 Ghz in both Access Points.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am in process of replacing our 44xx controllers with new 55xx controllers. During the upgrade, I would like to add redundancy to our guest controllers that reside in the DMZ and had a question about regarding the setup.
If I remember correctly, I would place both guest controllers on the same mobilty group, and then add both of the controllers to the foreign controllers. The foreign controllers will form mobility with both anchors, but choose the one with the lowest MAC address as primary. On the foreign controller, if the lowest MAC addressed anchor controller does not respond, it will connect to the second controller. Is that still true? or is there a better way to go about it?
Also, I was wondering, do I need to put different guest network ranges on each of the Anchor controller? or can I use the same exact range on both anchor controller (since if a controller goes down, the clients would be reconnecting to the second controller anyways?)
Any best way to setup redundant Anchor (guest) controllers).

The Prime uses https or http when trying to add the MSE. But those ports are closed on the MSE. The MSE seems to expect traffic on tcp 8001.
We did not change the default NCS-username/password in the startup-wizard.

There was an error while parsing and rendering the content. (Tried to register widget with id==mseLicenseInfoDialog but that id is already registered) This occurs whichever role you log in as and only happens on teh simple search, when using teh advanced search we do not see it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot integrate Virtual MSE 7.3.101 with my Prime Infrastructure 1.2 After I setup MSE via its wizard, I make a change on WCS username and password. When I try to integrate MSE with Prime Infrastructure, Prime notify me about the mismatch username/password.
Both systems are fresh install on my UCS C220 M3.
I have a customer who is looking to add some redundancy to their internet connections. Currently we have an ASA 5510 for their firewall. I know that the Sonicwalls are capable of terminating multiple internet connections simultaneously for load balancing, redundancy, and for pushing different types of traffic out different connections. Traditionally the ASAs have not had that capability. But does anyone know if the newer revs (8.3 and I think 8.4 may be out?) will do that or anything similar? Not looking for a full BGP-style solution where the same address space is available via multiple links, but more just a solution where the internet for basic web browsing could fail over and load balance between two internet connections, each assigned to a different outside interface on the ASA.

All of the servers will have public IP addresses.Now - the network guy at the new DC has confirmed that a simpler two switch configuration will work.

I have a Sony VAio laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit,a Macbook with 10.6.8, and a new Asus Transformer Prime with ICS.My work desktop is a Dell Optiplex 380 with Windows 7 Pro 32bit. I frequently work from home and have no issues remoting into to my work PC from by Sony laptop via VPN and RDP.However I have never been able to connect successfully to my work PC with my Macbook(using Remote Desktop Connection 2.1 for Mac OS) or Asus tablet(using WYSE Pocket Cloud RDP app for Android). I can however connect to the VPN itself on the Macbook and tablet without issue same as my Windows laptop. The other interesting part is I can connect via RDP when I am connected to a Mi-Fi 3g hotspot. So it is definitely something in the my Linksys E2000 blocking the connection for some reason. I have even set Port forwarding of 3389 with the ip's of both the Macbook and Asus tablet.I have also tried connecting via ethernet to the router with the same outcome. I cannot ping my work pc from either device as well.In addition the firewall on my work PC is completely disabled and all services related to Remote desktop access are enabled and running.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 4510R+E switch that won't change to the SSO redundancy mode. After entering the 'mode SSO' command, the switch reboots the peer supervisor (as it says it will), but after it comes back up it remains in RPR mode. I've tried rebooting the peer supervisor manually, rebooting the entire chassis, manually power cycling the entire chassis, and reseating the sups, but the switch remains in RPR mode. The issue started when I swapped the switch's supervisor with the supervisor of another 4500. The same issue was observed on the other 4500 as well, but after several reboots, I got it to change to SSO mode. Prior to the swap, both switches were running in SSO mode just fine.Since we're running IOS version 15.0 with the 'spare sup' license, I suspect the issue arose because of licensing complications (with relation to the chassis serial number and the like) when I swapped the sups....although this doesn't explain why the other switch changed to SSO after some troubleshooting.

The problem is because the router is not doing the redundancy process. For example if DSL service fails, the cable internet service does not come automatically. You have to disconnect and connect manually to maintain the connection to the Internet. Should not the router do this automatically without intervention?

I would like to add a redundant supervisor blade to the 6509 that is in production. Can this be done plug and play and require no reload. Are all WS-SUP720-3B the same as far as memory etc... or can I buy any used WS-SUP720-3B and it will work properly.
