View 4 Repliesi'm trying to enable WDS with authentication on a Cisco 1042 AP. The unit itself will be the WDS master and Radius server as well it will serve clients (not that many). The AP is running version 12.4(25d).After multiple tries of configurating, I keep getting the same issue: as soon as I connect to the SSID, I can enter the username and password but authentication fails - hence the message in my console:
%DOT11-7-AUTH_FAILED: Station xxxx.xxxx.xxxx Authentication failed. Every configuration I made was started from factory defaults of the AP.My current tests are with one AP only and if tests go successfully, I will add more infrastructure AP's to the setup.

I've tried the configuration from the Cisco config guide as well but without any luck [URL]
I would like to confirm if it is possible to downgrade AP 1042 from CAPWAP to autonomous? I want to buy the AP model AIR-LAP1042N-A-K9. But i don't sure if in the future it could support this feature.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to configure a Cisco 1042 autonomous AP and have ran into some problems. I require 2 broadcasted SSIDs that use WPA v2. When I only have 1 of the SSIDs enabled, I can authenticate with no problems. When I have both SSIDs enabled, I can connect to one of the networks, but not the other. I have verified the PSK multiple times, but the logs still show dot11-7-auth_failed. If I remove the working SSID and make no changes to the SSID for which authentication previously fails, everything works fine. Upon adding the other SSID back, I run into the same authentication issue.

If i debug the 1042 i also see "... has 1 AES-CCMP TSC replays messages..."I have some 1522 MAP meshing through 1142 working fine on same 5508 controller version, i think there are few differences between 1042 an 1142.
I have an Aironet 1042 wireless AP if I create an SSID with no security it shows up as wireless N when I see it on a windows 7 laptop. As soon as I apply any security settings is shows up as G and not N. I just want to be able to authenticate with a Windows 2008 server running NPS - this works fine but I obviously want to connect at N speed and not G.

I have a 5508 WLC licensed for 100 APs. I have 1 - 1042 LAP connected for testing. I have DHCP configured for the AP, and it gets an address of 192.168.254.100/24 - the controller's management interface is 192.168.254.99/24. I can see that the AP is getting an IP and I can ping it from the controller. However, I simply do not see the AP associating. I enabled capwap debiugging and watched the events, but I didn't see anything crazy that clued me in. What am I doing wrong?
The controller is v6.0.199.4
Every time I have set these up in the past they have been pretty straight forward. I haven't gotten too deep into the config on the WLC becuase I don't want to cause more issues.
We have purchased Cisco 2504 Wireless Controller (One) and Ciscon 1042 Access Points (Five). At present I am going to use 3 access points only.I have attached a simple diagram of our office network. We have more than 30 VLANs configured in Core Switch, we are planning to give wifi access to only 3 VLANs.
1. VLAN 121 ( IP Segment - 10.52.121.0 /24)
2. VLAN 116 ( IP Segment - 10.52.116.0 /24)
3. VLAN 100 ( IP Segment - 192.168.100.0 /24) (Guest)
I would like to use LDAP or ACS for authentication purpose.
I want buy an Access point which cover 300 Meter coverage Area.
Have any data sheet or link where I can found which AP coverage how many Area, Like 1042 Access Point cover how many Feet Space.
We are experiencing problems with Apple Ipads on a large scale network that we install and maintain, the Ipads seem to join the network with no problems (bit slower than laptops etc) but will then disconnect for no apparent reason at random intervals. We have ran laptops on the same AP's and in the same area and no similar probems occurred, we are using IOS Cisco 1041's and 1042's, we have seen one of the Ipads's sitting quite happily on a 1042 2,4ghz radio and then it disconnected and went to the 5ghz radio. We are getting similar disconnects on the single radio 1041.

So, my WLC-based AP in that room which is Cisco 1x1042 & 1x1252 running in light-weight.This make huge congest on 5 Ghz. All of my 41 NB go for 5Hgz. And Zero client on 2.4Ghz radio, 2.4Ghz is not utilized at all.
I have read a lot of those related discussion. But I even can not find one that need to utilized BOTH of band. Most of those discussion talking to band-select which is "this feature only goes in one direction from the 2.4 GHz range to the 5 GHz not visa-versa."
My constrint is We can not touch the NB. Because this is university, much many diverse user loging in.
My access point 1042 series in light weight mode reloads itselft every time it booting, sometimes it boot succesfully.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe use LAP 1042's as our main AP's, and we set those in H-REAP (with Local Switching) in order to let them work properly. This is because our WLC is not located in the AP's local network. This is something that, sadly, cannot change, so this has to stay the way it is now.We also use a freeradius server to authenticate users on our wireless network. In our previous situation, before using Cisco appliances, we would just set our web auth page to a certain URL and make sure that the URL was granted access before authentication. We obviously found out that Cisco implemented this by using a Pre-Auth ACL. As a result we've added the IP adres of that web login page to a ACL and added that ACL to the pre-auth for the WLAN that will use Radius Web Auth. The WLAN also has the Radius servers added to the AAA page, so those are in place.
Now comes the problem though. When I connect to the WLAN that will have to use Radius, and try to open a page it will start trying to load the virtual interface (1.1.1.1) and then it will try to redirect to the web-page that I defined in the External Server. Like I stated, I've added the webpage's IP adres (after resolving it) to the pre-Auth ACL, and when I look at the counters I see that go up every time I try to load a page. Yet the browser on the computer gives me a time-out trying to load the external web-server web auth page.
When I disable Web-Auth all-together, I get internet straight away, so the problem obviously is located in the web-auth settings or ACL settings somewhere, but at this point I just don't know where to look anymore.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been tasked by my boss of finding out and implementing a solution of building GRE tunnels from 2 4408 Wireless controllers system for a guest wireless network. I am but a low CCNA wireless, working on getting motivated for CCNP wireless, but I didn't even know if this was possible and if it was where to begin. I have been reading configuration guides but figure I should ask the wireless experts of the world of Cisco.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to research the tunnel limits on a 5508 controller if you're terminating controllers to two different SSID's. For example. In my DMZ i have a GUEST SSID for contractors and guests and then I have another SSID used by employees so that tablet and mobile phone users can access the interenet. Because we don't trust any of these devices we have that SSID is termiated just as we do our GUEST SSID.
To reduce the number of anchor controllers I deploy, I wanted to start with one 5508 Controller. (then move up to about 3) This controller would have two SSID's, GUEST & MOBILE. On the Foreign controllers when I setup anchor tunneling I will be anchoring to the same controller however to two different SSID's.
Per the 5508 specs it supports 71 tunnels.
So my question to the group is, will the 5508 see this anchoring as one tunnel each? Or does it support 71 Tunnels per SSID?
We have a couple of autonomous 1262's that I'd like to get configured. I would like to put the Ethernet interface out on our Internet subnet and have the clients get a RFC 1918 address from the radio's. Our little Linksys is setup this way and the clients are PAT'ing off the Ethernet interface when they go to the Internet.
Is this possible with these guys or do I have to put the AP ethernet interface into the same subnet with the DHCP scope? I don't have enough Internet IP's to hand out to every wireless client.
