View 7 Replies View Relatedi am placing a formal request to Cisco and to the firmware development team to create a new-and-improved firmware release for the WET200 wireless Ethernet bridge, a product that is still being produced, shipped, and sold. I purchased the product about one-and-a-half years ago and have enjoyed its performance. There have been, however, some flaws with the device, namely the following:While configured to use WPA2-based security, DHCP-related traffic is not passed from a router/gateway's DHCP Server to connected devices on the WET200. Current firmware release notes indicate this was a known issue and was, supposedly, fixed; however, due to the level of problems customers are reporting, it appears this may have only been resolved, if at all, with security configurations of WPA, WEP, or OPEN. It has not been fixed for customers using WPA2-based security. When I originally purchased the WET200 and configured it to use WPA2-based security, while it, initially, did have a few problems connecting to my router/gateway, it, eventually, did connect and stayed connected for, approximately, one year. However, in September of 2009, it suddenly lost connectivity with my router/gateway and has not been able to establish a connection since, even after reinstalling the latest firmware revision and after several soft and hard resets of the device. I tested the WET200 with another router/gateway, only to experience the same issue. Other devices are connecting to my router/gateway, but, not the WET200. The last firmware update for the WET200 was dated back in July of 2008. Currently, it is January 2010 and since these issues have been known for quite some time, it is unacceptable that the firmware for this device has not been updated in such a long time, especially when there are known issues with the WET200's firmware. Such lack of support is forcing me and my clients to stop using these Cisco-based products and purchase competing hardware, something I would prefer not to do; however, without better support, I and my clients do not have a choice. Expecting me and my clients to use an inferior form of security on the WET200, such as WEP and/or WPA, until a firmware update is issued is unacceptable, especially when that update has not been released in over one-and-a-half years. Such lack of support is especially unforgettable when my clients and I are looking to purchase new networking equipment. In the past, I would not have hesitated to purchase a Cisco-based product; now, with this experience in mind, I am finding it very difficult to recommend to a client that he or she should invest their organization's finances into Cisco-branded equipment. Proper, professional, timely, support of your hardware is expected of your customers, especially if you wish them to remain loyal customers. I have noticed that other similar devices, albeit, higher-end devices, have had their firmware updated, more recently, compared to the WET200. I assumed this meant that the firmware development team was updating all firmware on such devices. So far, I have been disappointed in the lack of firmware updates for the WET200. While I understand the possible desire to update the higher-end products, first, as a professional whose job is to research, recommend, purchase, install, configure, secure, and maintain both the enterprise-level and small business-level devices, I highly encourage Cisco not to overlook their small business products when the firmware development team is updating firmware for any Cisco products. Deficiency in the support of one strata of Cisco-based products is reflective upon the support of any Cisco-based product and is not easily forgiven by Cisco customers, such as myself, when new and additional hardware needs to be purchased.

I have a laptop with a wireless adapter. I have a desktop without a wireless adapter. Both of these pc's have windows 7. I have the laptop and desktop connected by an ethernet cord, and the laptop has a wireless connection to the router. In Network Connections under the control panel, I used the Bridge Connections option to bridge the pc's together. At my friend's place, this is usually the end of this process as my desktop will have internet access and run fine. At my own place, however, the desktop will not have any internet until I set a static IP for it. Also at my place, games on the desktop tend to run with a lot of lag due to the internet.

I have a room cut off from the wired network by concrete walls (there are windows and it's a very short distance). There is a device in that room with a wired network adapter than needs access to the network. We'd like to use a pair of WAP4410N devices to get that room on our wired network over a simple "wireless bridge."
Would the following work?
Connect one WAP4410N normally with WPA2 Personal encryption and connect it to our wired network. Enable repeating of its signal.Set up the "remote" WAP4410N in the "cut off" room. Give it the same SSID and Encryption settings. Enable "Wireless Client Repeater" mode and uncheck the box labeled "Allow wireless station to associate". . . then use its RJ45 network port to connect to the wired device in the room. My biggest concern is the part in bold. Will the network port on the "remote" repeater function like that? So that any devices (or a switch) plugged into it will then be "forwarded along the bridge" to the main/local AP and then onto our network?

I am trying to configure an RV180W to act as a wireless bridge to our guest wireless network (Cisco 4404 WLC, 1130AG access points, WPA2 personal). I was told in a Cisco support chat that this configuration was possible, now that I have the RV180W it doesn't seem that it is.
I've configured the RV180W as a WDS Bridge with the ssid name, WPA2 key, and MAC of an AP hosting the guest wireless but it still doesn't seem to connect. I have a feeling I would need another WDS device for this to work, and that it will not connect to just any wireless network.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an extra 521G standalone access point. My network jack is on the other side of the wall...so I am curious to see if I could use this access point as a bridge of some sorts to join my wireless network (on a UC520W-8U-4FXO-K9) and use the Ethernet jack on the AP as a bridge of some sorts so that I can connect my IP phone and laptop behind it. I've set up standalone AP's like this as base stations before, but I've never tried bridging and haven't had much luck just playing around with it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I'm going to bridge two Cisco AP's 1260 and 3500, which have an 880 router on each side.
(Currently I have a VPN set-up through the internet for the two locations to communicate) (Naturally they are currently in different subnets) Will absolutely change this and set up as one subnet. There is VLANs setup on each router (same VLANs)
VLAN 1
And
VLAN 10
Everything is configured on the Routers and AP's for these VLANs (works flawlessly over the VPN).
So now since I’m going to get rid of the VPN and set-up a bridge with two AP's, will having same VLANs across both routers be a problem? Will VLANs work OK through the bridge?
Besides using (IP helper address DHCP-IP) command on the non-root bridge side router to forward DHCP requests to the root bridge side router, Also I want to be able to route internet traffic on the non-root bridge side through the WAN port, and only route LAN traffic through the bridge..
I've read in some of the cisco documentation on the 1250 series that root bridge or non root bridge modes are "not tested". They don't say "not supported". I have a client that could use a high bandwidth link between two buildings that are 100' or so apart. The fiber link has already been busted twice. Heavy heavy trucks kill the ground concrete. I have configed a 54Mbps solution with two 1242G's and some cisco yagi's. But, if an N bridge is possible with two 1252AG's, and go faster than the 54Mbps..I'd go with that setup.
Cisco documentation says the bridge modes show up in the 1252 webgui and are selectable. They just end it with "not tested".
send me wireless bridge settings for WAP 4410N.
I have purchased two sets of WAP4410N and i need this to connect as wireless bridge to use our external office users(1 or Max 2) which is just beside our office building to surf our internet and retrieve data from our main server.

trying to get my new router and bridge to work I am close to give up.
1. I have bought a RV220W router this will be connected to Internett and all wireless devices will connect to it. It seems to work fine. I have enabled on AP profile where others easyli can access internett through router WAN port
2. I have bought a AP541 Access point that i want to have as a bridge (We earlier used 3COM without problems) Some Computers and other stuff like printers will be connected to this through a switch for the Ethernet port on AP541. (I dont want any clients to connect wireless to AP541N)
Before I start asking detailed questions, i want to verify that my setup is possible. Reading the Information on the shops webpage clearly states that AP541N can work in bridge mode, but struggling to find any good explenation makes me wonder if this really is true.
Can Cisco AP541N works as a bridge together with RV220W.
i'm new in wireless and have delegated a task to setup a wireless connection between two buildings (it should be on the same IP subnet), app. 300m apart.
