Cisco Wireless :: Converting AIR-AP1131AG-E-K9 Into Standalone AP?

I have a Brand new AP that was bought for a site which has a controller, however it was never installed. I was wondering can you downgrade this AP to make it work in stand alone mode as a normal AP?

Cisco Wireless :: AP1131AG Now Joining WLC?

Apr 17, 2013

I had problems joining a 1131AG AP to a "new" 5508 WLC with 7.4.100.0 running. This AP has been connected to a, for me unknown controller for years. Now the customer wants to move this AP to a newer 5508 controller with 7.4.100.0 We [URL] could not get this AP to the controller connected. Now I have this AP on my desk. I have a 5508 (7.4.100.0) as well. I connected the AP to the same network as the WLC Management -> AP did not connect, tried to download the "new" IOS but didn't seem to work, same as already in the old tread. So I tried to login to the AP, but it seemed to have a for me unknown Account / Password.

-> I did a reset of the AP by pressing the mode button (about 2-3 sec.) during Power on (not connected to the network). Now I could log on to the AP. I deleted six crashinfos and connected the AP back to the network.

Now the AP joined the controller.

Does a "unknown" Password prevent the AP to join to a other WLC?

The AP hat 15740928 bytes total (6409728 bytes free) space on the Flash: was this enough for the new image? 15740928 bytes total (7798272 bytes free) after deleting the crashinfos

The customer has more AP's that has to join the new controller, would be nice that we don't have to reset all APs.

Today I want to build a wireless bridge using AIR-AP1131AG (running WLC) and TP-LINK wireless router. The result is failed. May I know AIR-AP1131AG is support bridging the wireless connection with other vendor's access point or not?

In the TP-Link I already match its SSID, Channel and put the mac-address of the AIR-AP1131AG. In the WLC I already see too TP-LINK mac-address is already become a client.

Cisco Wireless :: AIR-AP1131AG-E-K9 / Getting PPTP VPN Through Access Point?

Jan 6, 2010

my customer has a very basic LAN+WLAN configuration:

- 1 switch (not Cisco)
- 1 DSL router which is the default gateway (not Cisco)
- 2 Wi-Fi Access Points (Cisco AIR-AP1131AG-E-K9)

If he tries to establish a PPTP VPN when he is connected to the wired LAN, it works but when he tries the same from the wireless LAN it doesn't work. He says he'd tested it with Windows Firewall disabled. Is there any configuration command that can enable/disable PPTP VPN traffic pass through a Wi-Fi connection? I've never seen something like this and I use PPTP VPNs over a Wi-Fi connection every day without any particular configuration on the access point.

Here's the APs config:

Cisco Wireless :: Configuring Antenna Gain On AIR-AP1131AG-AK9 After WLC Join?

Dec 8, 2010

I am currently working on a project where I need to design a complete wireless solution for a huge building.  I performed the wireless rf survey by configuring the wap's to broadcast a SSID and walked around gathering rf coverage data.  When configuring the test WAP's i did not join them to a lan controller ( AIR-WLC4402-50-K9 ) but simply created a static ip and ssid to broadcast but modified the internal antenna gain to +128 to change the direction of the broadcast.  There are two other ap's already joined to the lan controller on a guest network (configured by another contractor) but when I go into the lan controller web gui I do not see anywhere that allows me to modify antenna gain on the individual WAPs.  Also, once the waps join the lan controller they dont seem to be accessible via web. How I can I modify gain per wap?

Cisco Wireless :: AP1131AG / AP1100 Series Clients Roaming?

Sep 20, 2012

my hardware set-up : 2x AP 1100 series, 2x AP1131AG (not connected to a Cisco Switch)...all with the latest Cisco iOS

What i want to do is connect these APs and broadcast the same SSID (e.g Aironet and NOT Aironet1,Aironet2..etc). Doing that, a user with a laptop can roam between these APs and won't have to re-enter the password of the SSID every time he changes AP. I would also like the encryption to be with a 128bit password key. From what i have read, i need a local authenticator to do what (Something called Local Radius Server).

System Software Version: 12.3(7)JA5

After converting encryption from WEP to WPA in a Cisco 1240AG in personal mode with an SSID name of example1 and Cisco 1131AG access point in personal mode with an ssid of example2; both with the same wpa passphrase, I created a new profile on the Cisco Aironet Desktop Utility with a new profile name as well as a WPA passphrase, but the desktop utility will only connect to the access point if one network name, example1 or example2, is entered.

Cisco Wireless :: Converting 3600 To Autonomous?

Jan 13, 2013

I am not having much luck getting it converted via normal ways.

It times outs on TFTP server when you hold the mode button (a 3500 is working fine doing the same thing).

I try the old school way of archive download-sw but it isn't fast enough before it re-dhcp's because it can't find a controller. "*Mar  1 01:17:51.123: %CAPWAP-3-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC using DHCP IP. Renewing DHCP IP..'  Even if I set a static IP address.

Is there way to disable the join process while I upgrade the software?  I guess fire up a controller for it to join.  I hope I don't have to have a controller to convert these.

Cisco Wireless :: Converting A 1260AP From Autonomous To Light Weight Mode

Jan 17, 2013

Is the process for converting 1260 APs to lightweight mode any different from converting 1140s or 1250s? I've converted several APs to LWAP mode but this is my first 1260.  Four 1260s need to be converted.I have one in a remote location that seems to be comatose. Here are the steps I took to convert the AP.  Did skip/miss a step?

1. uploaded code to the AP  ap3g1-rcvk9w8-tar.152-2.JB.tar
2. configured the AP for DHCP. It successfully leased a DHCP address. Controller information is provided via DHCP Option 43.
3. saved the configuration
4. verified the code, successful
5. disabled wireless radios
6. installed the lightweight code using the command archive download-sw /safe flash:/ap3g1-rcvk9w8-tar.152-2.JB.tar.The installation was successful
7. rebooted the AP

After that nothing. The AP has not leased another IP address. The switchport is active. The APs MAC address is registering in the switches MAC address table.  The AP is receiveing PoE from the switch. I noticed that this AP is only receiving 6.2W of power where the three are getting anywhere between 8.8W and 9.3W. I am unable to ping the old static IP of the AP too.

Cisco :: Standalone Aironet 1140 - VPN Not Working Over Wireless

Dec 19, 2010

I just installed an Aironet 1140 to replace a Netgear ProSafe access point that I had in my network prior.  I'm having one issue that I can't figure out though.  None of the client PCs can establish a connection to an external (over the internet) VPN server while on the Aironet wireless.  If i unplug the AP and plug a PC into the same port that normall feeds the Aironet I can VPN just fine.

Is there any "VPN Passthrough" option that needs to be enabled somewhere on the 1140 that is blocking this traffic for some reason?

Cisco Wireless :: Aironet 1140 Standalone AP To Have Radio Management

Dec 28, 2011

For some time now I have been looking for a good business class wireless AP. I've narrowed it down to the Cisco Aironet 1140 standalone (no controller). I'm no stranger to Cisco products. I've worked with their routers, switches and Pix/ASA firewalls. However, I've not had the opportunity to work with their wireless AP's. Anyone using these AP's (more specifically the 1140 standalone), can provide information on the reliability and security of these devices. Some of the features I would like to have like Radio Mgmt. and Rogue AP Detection I see are only available on the controller based units. Does not having these features on the standalone unit reduce its reliability and security? This is for a small business and the budget does not allow to drop for a controller at this time.

Cisco Wireless :: Migrating 2 Standalone 5508 To One Mobility-group

Jan 23, 2012

for some reason our wlan-controllers were build up to be standalone instead of beeing one mobility-group. I would like to change this in order to use all features of HA.

let me describe our scenario: two WLCs 5508 running SW ver. 6

- same subnet

- both are running in master controller mode

- different hostnames, ip-addresses, etc

- all settings for WLANs and AP-groups (exept the APs themselves in these groups) are the same

- in total at this moment we are running around 100 LAPs configured one half on WLC#1, the other half on WLC#2

I don't know exactly why, but when that setting was installed, someone already configuredHA for each accesspoint... e.g.:

- AP#1 primary WLC#1, secondary WLC#2

- AP#2 primary WLC#2, secondary WLC#1 but without WLC#2 knowing the configuration for AP#1 it makes no sense, correct?

so my question is: how should I do the migration in the best way?
is it easy as:

- disabling master controller mode on WLC#2

- configuring both WLCs into one mobility group

--> WLCs are negotiating their configurations for the APs
