Client Expects Port 21 But FTP-servers Have Same IP Address?

Mar 19, 2013

My setup is as follows: as a part of a global network, I have two separate measurement stations collecting data in the field. They are working with some kind of embedded linux system and is running an FTP-server so that I can download collected data. I have some control over the stations, which e.g. means that I can select the port used for the FTP-server (default is 21).Unfortunately, for this particular set of measurement stations, they are connecting via FTP-over-radio-link to another station which is connected to my computer via a router (on the server-side) and I can only "see" their common external IP address. If I have understood this correctly, they can not use the same port for FTP traffic, right? The router used is some (for me) unknown brand with unknown capabilities, so I don't expect/want a solution at that end.Now, to my problem: as a part of this global network there is a custom software running on my computer that automatically connects to all the different stations to download and process the data. This software runs on any recent version of Windows, but I'm running Windows XP right now. There is no way for me to modify this software at this point (for the future, maybe, but not now), and unfortunately it has a severe limitation: it MUST use port 21 for FTP-connections.My first attempt was to set the FTP-port to 2121 for one of the servers and create another IP address on my client network adapter and try to forward port 21 of this new IP to port 2121 on the server/router side, but due to lack of knowledge and experience I did not manage to get this working fully.

Servers :: Default Gateway / IP And DNS Address For Client PC?

May 29, 2012

Client is having 1 file server running small business windows server 2003. Server is not configured with domain, it is working only on workgroup. We have around 15 users who are using that server as file server only. Now my main question is do i need to configure DNS server in that server?we also have internet connection running (have problem in that also, will explain next time) with wireless router to connected with switch. So do I need to setup dns in server also or just put static ip (I prefer static then dhcp) & dns server from ip will be ok? If I put dns which I got from ISP, so will it create any problem with using those file from server?the second question is..

What IP address, Default gateway and dns address I should use for Server & also client pc.
router ip - 192.168.1.1
server ip - 192.168.1.10
Currently no DNS setupcurrent configuration - Server
IP - 192.168.1.10

gateway - 192.168.1.1
dns - 213.42.20.20 (from ISP)
dns2 - xxx.xx.xx.xx (from ISP)current configuration - Client
IP - 192168.1.111(to 115)
subnet - 255.255.255.0

dns 1 - 192.168.1.10 (File Server)

Use Web Address Instead Of IP For Game Servers?

Oct 24, 2011

When someone goes into a game (e.g. Minecraft) instead of typing an IP to join a game they simply type in [URL] and then the server gets added just the same as if you typed in an IP (123.456.789 sorta thing)

My friend used to do this on his website and it worked across multiple games, so people only entered his website and didnt need to remember the IP. if you type in [URL] in minecraft then u can add that server without the IP, thats what i mean.

Obtain DNS Servers Address Automatically?

May 11, 2011

I coulden't visit any websites and it gave me an "error 105" something. So i tried connecting my other comp to the internet cabel with the same result. So i tried to find a solution on the web (wierless internet still worked) and stumbeld upon a similar problem were the answer was to manually fill in an adress in the "internet protocol version 4" properties in the "local area connection" properties. I then noticed that i dident have the "Obtain DNS server address" set to automatically and that the other manual boxes were empty. I then turned the auto on an i had access to internet. Is this safe? Cause i read somewere that DNS server addresess were provided by the company that provide you your internet service, and that you can be redericted to a fake website that can get a hold of your account information on it

2 Servers Need Different External IP Address Behind Same Router?

May 22, 2012

I have a client that has 2 servers behind the same router. They have an IP block from Time Warner -> (x.x.x.18-.30) The router has the IP address of x.x.x.18. Server A (192.168.1.6) is setup with the forwarding of ports 22, 23, and 115 and can be seen with the ip address x.x.x.18. An external company needs to access the other server and is requesting an external IP for Server B (192.168.1.5) which need the same ports open along with 6200.What is the best way to set this up with what they have? The router is a Linksys WRT54G. Is there a way to set them up with a x.x.x.19 address from time warner? Is this something time warner will need to do?

Home Network :: Virtual Servers On One IP Address

Aug 6, 2012

I have one dedicated IP issued to my home, along with another dynamic one if I need it(but I don't use it). I have a webserver, mail server, and name server up and running on a single machine exposed to the internet with my static IP. I have a domain name registered to my IP address. My webserver and name server work great, but I am having difficulty with the mail server. In order to have mail work correctly, I have been told that I need to get reverse DNS setup for my domain (something I had neglected to do). My nameserver responds to reverse lookups correctly when issued locally, but it looks like queries from the internet never reach it (I think my ISP catches requests upstream). I contacted them and they put a PTR record in for my IP pointing to ns1.mydomain.com. This all works fine, but the thought occurred to me that if in my hosts file I put my MX record in as mail.mydomain.com., any mail clients that do a reverse lookup of my IP won't get mail.

Cisco WAN :: How To Route 2 WAN IP Address Into RV110W Through 2 Different Servers

Oct 7, 2011

Just purchased a Cisco RV110W for our small business.  We were told this was easy for us to use and secure enough for our small office and for our travelling sales staff to access our website.

We purchased 2 dedicated IP-addresses, 216.82.5.230 for access to one server, and 216.82.5.231 for access to a second server (these IP-Addresses given are just an example; not real).

These come into the single RV110W WAN port.  The two servers are plugged into 2 of the 4 LAN ports.

But the WAN setup page only accepts one WAN IP-Address.  So when we put in 216.82.5.230, the outside world can HTTPS into one server, but we don't know how to get them to HTTPS to the second server when the other staff uses 216.82.5.231.

We will be changing the 6500s so the mac address for the gateway will change, however the IP address will remain the same. As we change out the 6500s the uplink connections to the 3560 will go down. This will flush the old mac address from the 3560.When the 3560 removes a MAC address does it update servers so they have to relearn the correct MAC address?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Can't Port Forward Or Use Virtual Servers At All

Mar 5, 2013

I just bought this to replace a working Linksys but wanted gigabit so after reading a lot of reviews this is the one I picked up.  So tell me what is the magic toggle to get port forwarding to work or virtual servers?  I've configured them on Linksys, netgear, Cisco, etc 100 times with no problems.  Nothing I configure on this confounded thing works.  I've setup 6 port forwards, RDP, FTP, VNC and none of them work.  Nothing.  "Connection timed out" when trying to connect.  This works on my other router just fine so its not my software, or my PC configuration as they have no changed. Ports are correct.

Home Network :: Belkin F5D8635-4v1 - Access Multiple Servers From One Dynamic IP Address

Jan 23, 2012

I am working with MS Windows 2008 R2 and a Belkin F5D8635-4v1 router.

I have already set up a dynamic IP address which points to my router at home. In my home network I have multiple PC's that I would like to access from the internet. I would like to achieve this without needing to change my port forwarding rules on my router each time...

My thoughts are that I use a single dynamic IP address pointed to my router. My router then forwards to a server with some sort of software that can then forward to the correct PC based on the host name.

So I have 3 domains set up all pointing to the router's IP address:

dest1.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
dest2.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
dest3.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45

The router is not smart enough to redirect by host name, so it will just forward everything to 10.0.0.20 The server based at 10.0.0.20 must then have software to now redetermine the target based on the host name. The rules would be set up as follows:

dest1.domain.com -> 10.0.0.22
dest2.domain.com -> 10.0.0.24
dest3.domain.com -> 10.0.0.26

Port Forwarding Setup - Remote Directly Into One Of Servers?

Jan 19, 2012

I have a small network in my garage, it's basically made up of a bunch of test servers. Those and a win xp machine are all hooked up to a switch, and the win xp machine also has a wireless usb stick that is connected to my wireless router, and is being used to share internet to the rest of the machines. The test servers along with the NIC card on my win xp machine sit on a different subnet, however.When I remote into the win xp machine from my house, i can run a second remote desktop in the first session, into any of my servers. I want to do work on them, but its very laggy.

Is there a way I can setup a port either on the win xp machine or my wireless router so that i can remote directly into one of the servers? so if the win xp machine has a wireless ip address of 192.16.13.102, and one of the servers on the 2nd subnet has an internal ip of 192.2.2.4, can i have it so i can make, for instance, 192.16.13.102:6333 forward to 192.2.2.4? If not, is there any other way i can directly remote into one of the servers, by passing the first remote desktop into win xp? What settings would have to be the same across the line?

D-Link DIR-825 :: Virtual Servers Versus Port Forwarding

Jan 31, 2012

the difference between Virtual Servers and Port Forwarding on the DIR-825? I'm transitioning my router setup for a Tomato/MLPPP router to the DIR-825 and I'm a little confused on when you would use "Virtual Servers" and when you would use Port Forwarding? In the past, I've always relied on port forwarding to allow access to specific services on my LAN (ie. VPN, Apple Remote Desktop, etc.), so again, unsure what the Virtual Servers is used for?From what I can tell, Virtual Servers is for services that require a single port for communication (ie. a basic SSH setup on port 22) while Port Forwarding allows for the setup of services that require multiple ports (ie. VPN on ports 500 [UDP], 1701 [UDP], 1723 [TCP] and 4500 [UDP]). Is that the differences between the two configuration pages? It just seems odd to me to have two separate windows for just this difference? If that's the case, is there any reason I couldn't just use port forwarding, even for services that only require a single port (just to keep everything on the same configuration page, under Port Forwarding)?

Cisco Firewall :: How To Set Up NAT For Two Servers Using Same Port With ASDM ASA 5505

Apr 10, 2012

We have a new installation of a ASA 5505 and are trying to get some NAT issues straightened out. On our internal network, we have two servers running Filemaker Server, a relational database server that clients connect with using port 5003. Our goal is to be able to allow users from the outside to access either of these servers as needed. I know how to set up a simple static NAT rule and matching Access rule in ASDM which would be fine for a case in which only one server using a given port is running on a network, but for simple static rules I seem to be blocked from entering a different translated port number from the orginal port number, which becomes a problem when two servers we need to access from the outside are running software using the same port number.

What is the simplest way to address this need? I am guessing that I need to set up a scenario like this, where port 5004 (or any arbitrarily choosen unused port, can be used to access the second server: [code]
