i am a ict teacher. at my lab all student computers (clients - win 7 ultimate) are connected to server 2008 machine. student are unplugging the network cable and try to log on some account which has time restriction so client computer is logging him on by using cache user. how can i solve that problem.i want always the network cable to be plugged and force students to use their own account in lesson time.

We have around 15 users who are using that server as file server only. Now my main question is do i need to configure DNS server in that server?we also have internet connection running (have problem in that also, will explain next time) with wireless router to connected with switch. So do I need to setup dns in server also or just put static ip (I prefer static then dhcp) & dns server from ip will be ok? My setup is as follows: as a part of a global network, I have two separate measurement stations collecting data in the field. They are working with some kind of embedded linux system and is running an FTP-server so that I can download collected data. I have some control over the stations, which e.g. means that I can select the port used for the FTP-server (default is 21).Unfortunately, for this particular set of measurement stations, they are connecting via FTP-over-radio-link to another station which is connected to my computer via a router (on the server-side) and I can only "see" their common external IP address. If I have understood this correctly, they can not use the same port for FTP traffic, right? The router used is some (for me) unknown brand with unknown capabilities, so I don't expect/want a solution at that end.Now, to my problem: as a part of this global network there is a custom software running on my computer that automatically connects to all the different stations to download and process the data. This software runs on any recent version of Windows, but I'm running Windows XP right now. There is no way for me to modify this software at this point (for the future, maybe, but not now), and unfortunately it has a severe limitation: it MUST use port 21 for FTP-connections.My first attempt was to set the FTP-port to 2121 for one of the servers and create another IP address on my client network adapter and try to forward port 21 of this new IP to port 2121 on the server/router side, but due to lack of knowledge and experience I did not manage to get this working fully.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo, brand new Inspiron n7110 lappy running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). Got it home, fired it up and found that it could see the network, but refused to actually do anything with it, or even cough up a specific error message other than 'Windows was unable to connect to (networkname)'.Fiddled with it for a while, entered and re-entered the passkey, mucked about with settings, made sure that the network name and whatnot were all entered correctly, and eventually got annoyed and simply disabled security. Lo and behold, it worked beautifully... sometimes. Connectability was still badly erratic (didn't get any unplanned disconnects, but when it booted up, it was pretty much even odds as to whether or not it would connect). But as soon as I re-enabled security (WEP, in this case.I suppose I really should figure out how to get WPA to work, but one problem at a time >.<)The router is a Siemens SE567.

I've powered it off and on. I've checked my linkups and used different wires. The thing is fully powered. The ethernet and power are green and the wireless blinks.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOne of my customers uses Comcast email and all of a sudden couldn't send messages the other day, telling me it was giving her an error. She said that she reset her router, and the email started working again.When I finally got over there to check it out, the email had started experiencing problems again. The error she was having was Error 550: Message Rejected (when trying to send email). There didn't appear to be any issues with her internet connection, and she wasn't having issues connecting to the email server, it was simply rejecting her messages.
I told her that she would have to contact Comcast, as there was really nothing I could do to fix their email server returning an error. She wasn't too happy, and remained convinced that her router had something to do with it. It's a Netgear WNDR3700 or WNDR3800 that I setup for her last year, it's a fine router.Has anyone ever had a Comcast email server randomly start rejecting messages? I noticed that her outgoing email was set to use port 587 which seems like a nonstandard port and also no authentication, but I have no idea what the Comcast email settings are supposed to be.
I came across this issue with a number of APs in an installtion last week.All APs were new LAP1142s and the controller is 5508.None of the APs (14 in all ) were able to join the controller.Actually they started the joining process , but it seems to get disconnected in between.I am pasting the output below.
Interestingly the issue was resloved after i Resetted All the LAPs again. (all 14 of them worked fine after the reset , but there were no prior configurations on the LAPs , they were just opened From The Box).

I've got a 1760 router which uses port forwarding (25, 80 and 443) for my internal network services. If, let's say, I try to open a FTP connection on the router, of course the connection will be refused. Is there a way to make the router DROP the packets instead of rejecting them? Private Servers Segment: 192.168.4.0/24 (there is no DHCP all servers' IPs are statically configured)
DMZ Segment: 192.168.3.0/24 (This is a future deployment)
LAN Segment: 172.17.0.0/16
Both, Private Servers and DMZ Servers are in a collocation as well as the ASA5520. There are multiple Branch offices that uses subnets within the 172.17.0.0/16 Network and they are connected to the ASA5520 via Metro-E.
I do not know if this is possible but what I want to do is this:
In order to avoid the change of internal DNS records I want to mask the DMZ servers with a Private Server IP when a Private server or LAN host wants to access it like this:
The FTP server in the DMZ has the IP address: 192.168.3.100. But when a PC from the LAN wants to reach the FTP server it should points to its old IP: 192.168.4.100. This way the PC sends a packet to the ftp.corporate.net (192.168.4.100) the ASA recieves the packet and translate it to the (192.168.3.100) and send it out through the DMZ Interface.
Also if the Private Servers wants to reach the same FTP the ASA will act like a proxy-ARP and send the paquet to the DMZ by means of the translation of the IP.
I've got 3 computers (2 desk 1 lap) all running Windows 7. I have 2 network printers. The printers are wired to one of the desktops and the other 2 computers connect via network. The printers work fine once I add them to each computer, but once I restart, the printers appear offline on the other 2 computers even though they work fine on the desktop to which they are wired.I've had this setup for a while and only recently this started happening. It looks like Win7 is messing with the IPs of the printers. I'm not an expert on how to find the IP addresses of the printers though and set them to static (if this indeed is the problem)

After the initial failure and card reseat it has lasted almost 3 weeks, reseated it again today and it fell over again within a minute. Reseated again and it is stil up and passing traffic after an hour.
Trying to power cycle the card from the chassis fails, a remove/insert is required to get the card running.
Is this a memory failure on the SIP (CEF failure??) or some other odd fault with the SIP, that makes it require a card remove/reinsert?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 XP machines, both connected to a network switch which connects them to a print server attached to a printer. The last print server recently died and has been replaced, but the problem remains. I've downloaded the driver from the printer manufacturers website and installed on both XP machines, one functions fine but after each reboot the printer is grayed out on the other. Removing it and adding again fixes this until the next reboot.I am aware of some networking issues at this site which result in a few dropped packets between sites but shouldn't be an issue here since they are all attached to the same switch.

2 are DCS-932L and 1 DCS-942L
The DCS942 (which is right near but facing the other direction) is about 2 meters away from one of the 932's but the 942 keeps going offline - it comes back on and off probably 4-5 time during a 24hr period.
This is most frustrating - it would look like Wifi signal strength could be the issue but the other 932 right near it doesn't have this issue?
Just upgrade from an old DIR-524 (or something like that) to a DIR-655. Set up was easy all is working good with the computers. |However, I plugged my HP Photosmart C5100 printer into the router (first slot). The computer seems to know it is there, and the printer seems to recognize the router, but it will not printer. Microsoft diagnostics says that the printer is not ON, and the printer is listed on Devices as Offline. The printer is about 5 years old, but it is a trooper and I don't want to to get rid of it.
