WNDR3700 Outgoing Email Server Rejecting Messages
May 7, 2013
One of my customers uses Comcast email and all of a sudden couldn't send messages the other day, telling me it was giving her an error. She said that she reset her router, and the email started working again. When I finally got over there to check it out, the email had started experiencing problems again. The error she was having was Error 550: Message Rejected (when trying to send email). There didn't appear to be any issues with her internet connection, and she wasn't having issues connecting to the email server, it was simply rejecting her messages.
I told her that she would have to contact Comcast, as there was really nothing I could do to fix their email server returning an error. She wasn't too happy, and remained convinced that her router had something to do with it. It's a Netgear WNDR3700 or WNDR3800 that I setup for her last year, it's a fine router.Has anyone ever had a Comcast email server randomly start rejecting messages? I noticed that her outgoing email was set to use port 587 which seems like a nonstandard port and also no authentication, but I have no idea what the Comcast email settings are supposed to be.

We have Cisco 1900 Series Integrated Services Routers (has a wired router and a wireless router) and since this morning we can not send emails.I inquired with both the ISP and the hosting provider and all settings are correct.I can receive emails from outside the router, but can't send any emails out.If I try to telnet mail902.opentransfer.com 25 it doesn't connect.Port 25 is the port we were using all the time and was working through the router.I connected my laptop directly to the modem and was able to send emails using port 25, also was able to telnet to outgoing mail server. I didn't change anything in the router.is there a way to "enable" port 25 or "enable" mail.homeserviceclub.com (smtp server) or mail902.opentransfer.com (hosting mail server) if this would solve the problem?I don't understand why is this happening as I never had to enable or disable any email ports or mail server addresses.

I have a question about NAT behavior on FWSM 4.0. The problem is email server (Company A) cannot connect to email gateway (Company B) on the outside network and it randomly happen. I got this error from server guy "Detail: xlate has blocked the connection between A’s mail gateway and B’s mail gateway". It work fine again after clear xlate on firewall. [code]
1. How FWSM create xlate table like that? I mean it look like NAT0 for 158.137.21.26 but it doesn't has any nat rule for 158.137.21.26 on firewall.
2. What does it mean "connections 24" at the first of line? In the normal time, I only see the connections is 0 like the second line of xlate
3. After clear xlate global 158.137.21.26, the first line of xlate table is gone then email server can connect each other. Does is a bug on FWSM? or This is a normal NAT behavior of FWSM.

I cannot get my server to send outgoing traffic through my network. I.e. If i try to connect to any of my services i get a very weak connection. Now, i can still CONNECT, i just don't get any data flow. I cant even PING the server internally, it just times out. Now, regardless of whether i use my internal IP/external domain, i get the same issue. I logged onto my computer and tried a speed test the download was normal (around ~20mbit) but the upload times out.
Here is the fun part, if i connect to the server using a switch, everything works fine! Is it my router or some stupid configuration issue? Router is a WRV54G (I hate this thing). Server is running windows 2008 and has a virtual machine.

log in to the internal buffer : buffer size 1048576 bytes
Then i save the buffer to FTP server to save the log messages in continuously way everything was working fine but suddenly sending the ftp traffic to FTP traffic has stopped suddenly before in the live log viewer it was showing when ASA throws the ftp traffic to the ftp server but this stopped suddenly nothing has changed in the ftp server setting (same username and password and the connectivity is there) sending logging traffic to the ftp server came back just when i reboot the ASA.but this is not solution.

Up to this point, all the computers on the network accessed the e-mail server via the Windows name of the PC running the e-mail server. However, one of the PCs will need to access e-mail from the WAN soon as opposed to the LAN, so I switched the server name in Thunderbird (e-mail client) to the actually fully qualified domain name of the server (registered at NO-IP, which redirects to the e-mail server at home).
The problem I am running into is that all the requests sent for IMAP or SMTP are being blocked by the router. That's even though I added port forwarding rules for them. The logs show messages similar to the following:
"Blocked incoming TCP connection request from 216.168.101.68:51291 to 216.168.101.68:143"
It doesn't make a difference if I change the endpoint filtering to "Endpoint Independent" either. Any thoughts of what else I can try? DMZ is not an option.

I am using Solawinds syslog and trying to get our Cisco routers send syslogs to our syslog server. I followed the procedure on Configuring Cisco Devices to Use a Syslog Server from [URL] Our Cisco swtches are all sending syslog messages but not the routers. I compared the config with our access switches but can't seem to find the problem:
Sample router config:
service nagleno service padservice tcp-keepalives-inservice tcp-keepalives-outservice timestamps debug datetime msec localtime show-timezoneservice timestamps log datetime msec localtime show-timezoneservice password-encryption!hostname WWF-RT1boot-start-markerboot-end-marker!security authentication failure rate 10 logsecurity passwords min-length 8logging buffered 4096logging rate-limit all 10logging console critical!aaa new-model!!
[Code] .......
is there a command that prevents the router from sending the syslog to the server?

I've recently purchased a domain name from GoDaddy, and I'm having trouble setting up my server, which is running Windows Server 2003, to run email using the domain name. Before purchasing, I was using a free domain from DynDNS and it worked using it as an domain address. I'm wondering if maybe I have to set up the DNS on GoDaddy to foward the email protocol to my server.

Do I create an SMTP Network Object and send TCP traffic throught NAT?
Or do I go to the ASDM's Configuration/Firewall, choose Public Servers, and choose Private Interface=inside, Public Interface=outside, set the private/public IPs, and choose SMTP as the service? This seems much simpler, but is it the correct way to do it?
I am using ASDM 6.4(5) and would like to use that versus the CLI.

I'm hosting my email on an Exchange Server 2003 box and have my laptop (Vista Ultimate 32 bit) setup to connect to the exchange server for my email. This works fine through a LinkSys RV042 in one location and a LinkSys WRT54GC in another, but fails through the DIR-615 B2 (2.24 firmware) at home. I'm guessing it's blocking something needed for the MAPI connection.

So, brand new Inspiron n7110 lappy running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). Got it home, fired it up and found that it could see the network, but refused to actually do anything with it, or even cough up a specific error message other than 'Windows was unable to connect to (networkname)'.Fiddled with it for a while, entered and re-entered the passkey, mucked about with settings, made sure that the network name and whatnot were all entered correctly, and eventually got annoyed and simply disabled security. Lo and behold, it worked beautifully... sometimes. Connectability was still badly erratic (didn't get any unplanned disconnects, but when it booted up, it was pretty much even odds as to whether or not it would connect). But as soon as I re-enabled security (WEP, in this case.I suppose I really should figure out how to get WPA to work, but one problem at a time >.<)The router is a Siemens SE567.

I came across this issue with a number of APs in an installtion last week. All APs were new LAP1142s and the controller is 5508.None of the APs (14 in all ) were able to join the controller.Actually they started the joining process , but it seems to get disconnected in between.I am pasting the output below.
Interestingly the issue was resloved after i Resetted All the LAPs again. (all 14 of them worked fine after the reset , but there were no prior configurations on the LAPs , they were just opened From The Box).
*Apr 13 07:47:37.899: %CAPWAP-5-CHANGED: CAPWAP changed state to DISCOVERY
*Apr 13 07:47:37.900: %CAPWAP-5-CHANGED: CAPWAP changed state to DISCOVERY
*Apr 13 07:47:37.971: status of voice_diag_test from WLC is false
*Apr 13 07:47:48.000: %CAPWAP-5-DTLSREQSEND: DTLS connection request sent peer_ip: 10.2.4.52 peer_port: 5246
*Apr 13 07:47:48.000: %CAPWAP-5-CHANGED: CAPWAP changed state to
*Apr 13 07:47:48.002: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to down
*Apr 13 07:47:48.012: %LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to reset
[code]....
What is this .."*Apr 13 07:48:10.043: %MESH-6-CAPWAP_RESTART: Mesh Capwap re-started" that i see on the LAP logs.IWhy is this issue getting resolved on a reset , considering that all 14 of them are brand new , and unboxed at that very moment.

I've got a 1760 router which uses port forwarding (25, 80 and 443) for my internal network services. If, let's say, I try to open a FTP connection on the router, of course the connection will be refused. Is there a way to make the router DROP the packets instead of rejecting them? My Linux iptables configurations drop packets who fail the firewall test, so I would like the router to perform that behavior.Commands for port forwarding:ip nat inside source static tcp 10.10.0.1 80 int f0/0 80 (these work fine)

We recently upgraded our ASA to 8.3, most everything went ok, but I am having problems with outgoing nat. It seems that when one our systems that needs to be natted to an outside IP address when connecting out is not doing it. When that system goes out the ip address is our internet IP and not the natted address, however, inbound everything works.
We have one rule that does PAT
nat (INSIDE,OUTSIDE) source dynamic OG_IP_NAT_DMZ obj-1.1.1.1This is the natting statement that should be translating the addressesobject network obj-10.200.0.10
nat (INSIDE,OUTSIDE) static 2.2.2.2I think I need to double nat, is that right if so how?

I have programmed two E1 ports on Cisco 2811, one for E1-PRI and other for CAS. My running-config is as below
controller E1 0/0/0
framing NO-CRC4
clock source internal
ds0-group 1 timeslots 1-15,17-30 type r2-digital dtmf dnis
[code]....
I have made 4 as trunk group access on the PBX for E1-PRI and 8 as trunk group access for E1-CAS.I am able to dial 4-1-6261 to place calls on telephone 6261 from 6000(outgoing and incoming over PRI). And I am able to dial 4-2-6261 to place calls on telephone 6261 from 6000(outgoing on PRI and incoming on CAS).But I am not able to dial out from my PBX extensions over the E1-CAS card using 8-1-xxxx or 8-2-xxxx. I have patched two PBXs back to back on their E1-CAS ports and am able to dial out using 8-xxxx. So this means the trunk group allocation on PBX is working fine. The show controller e1 0/0/0 is showing normal stats. When I do a show voice port 0/0/0:1 I see that one of the ds0 timeslots are being seized when I try to dial out on 8-x-xxxx but the Out Status column entry against the timeslot says clear_bak.When I am placing calls on PRI, I don't see any such indication against the timeslot being seized.Basically since I am able to dial in to my E1-CAS port, the line coding, framing, signaling(to some extent) must be right, or so I guess. But am not able to dial out.

Something a little odd happened the other night. I had spent the afternoon updating all necessary programs where updates were available, did a GRC shieldsup test, did a clean and test of my system with AVG and MBAM. Everything looked fine.I went online that night however and as soon as I went to my online banking website, I noticed that there was an outgoing attempt logged in my firewall (ZoneAlarm). It was blocked. The IP address is 72.167.239.239:80 - which apparently fits in GoDaddy's IP range. Googled it and saw that someone else had the same issue.

I use Comcast cable as my ISP. My cable modem is located downstairs in my house. The cable modem has an Ethernet cable connected to port in a wall right next to it. In another room in my house I have an Ethernet port in the wall that goes to my wireless router. Connected to my WNDR3700v3 is a Synology DS213. When I am on my wireless network my computer can see it. When I use a Ethernet port in another area of my house I cannot see it.There is a network switch that is located elsewhere in the house. A cable modem connects to that network switch. A Ethernet cable comes out of the switch to a port that then connects to the other ports in the house. When I am connected via the wireless network my router IP address is the same as when I am connected via a wire. What can I do so that when I am either on my wireless or wired network I can see the DS213?

In the settings, there is a spot in which you can set the range of IPs to assign to connected computers and other devices. This particular option is available under the "LAN" options. What I am seeing is that the only IP that is assigned within the range is the one and only device hardwired to the router. Everything else is being assigned IP addresses outside of the range. Am I missing something? I was under the assumption that any IP addresses assigned dynamically would be within the range whether they were wired or wireless
