I can get it to connect to the internet through a direct link to the modem, but I've tried several routers and it has the same issue every time. I see "connected" but can't get online, and each time I try to ping the gateway it times out. The routers are brand new, so I can only think that the computer just doesn't want to work with them.
View 1 RepliesI just configured a 2 computers into a routers and and connected them to each other. My computer is them connected to one of the routers(configured PCs). The computer uses the default gateway of the router interface it is connected to. A ping to the default gateway repplies positively. A ping to the second interface to the same router goes successful but a ping to the first interface of the second router gives the "request time out" respond and a ping to the second interface of the second router gives the "destination host unreachable" respond.

I have a working VPN with a WRVS4400N Wireless N VPN Router. There is a Windows XP computer on the network with a static IP address and a shared folder that I need to access with QuickBooks across the VPN.I can connect to the router; but only doing that is of little use. Once my VPN connection is made,how do I find the computer on the other side and map a drive to it or get it with QuickBooks? I need the static ip to connect to a private network for my new job but cant connect to that network. View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a new laptop today, unfortunately, it doesnt have a Firewire port and i want to use it for video editing.But i figured no problem really, i'll just capture on my desktop that i have been previously using to edit on, using Premiere pro to edit, but HDVsplit to capture, and then transfer the files over to the laptop using a USB or possibly trying to setup a home network.But when transferring files from the desktop onto the laptop via the router using ethernet cables, the speed is about 250 kb/s and when its the other way around, from the laptop to the desktop, the speed is 10 MB/s! All are wired to a gigabit unmanaged switch which is connected to a Netgear WNR200V2 router. The router is connected to the cable modem. I replaced the Netgear WNR2000v2 router with a Cisco RV110W firewall which i had preconfigured using another computer. The 3 Windows 7 PC's connected up with no problems. The WHS 2003 computer has no internet access. All 4 computers are visible on the lan and the 3 Win 7 PC can access the internet. I've tried accessing the internet by URL and IP from the WHS with no luck. All computers are assigned static IP's. I've checked all my settings, turned off the firewall in both the WHS and the RV110W with no change. If I plug the Netgear router inplace of the Cisco, all computers including the WHS have internet access. Has to be a setting somewhere in the Cisco router that's blocking the access. IP's for the 3 Win7's are 192.168.1.40, 41,42. Fot the WHS 192.168.1.76.

It seems that my computer gets assigned a temporary ip automatically and then there will be times when I get "kicked out" and my computer doesn't get connected to the internet. Got a sky hub, its new and everything connects to it, all be it but one tower, it can find it and now and again it may conect with no or limited etc etc had the same problem with our last internet hub (BT) so its defo the computer as we also changed the Netgear USB adapter to a different tower unit and it connected, so it isnt the Sky hub and it isnt the wireless dongle. computer is running vista, i have disabled the security and it didnt work, i have uninstalled and reinstalled the software for the usb dongle a hundred times.it did once connect to the net this morning in my many attempts of fiddling and after the computer restarted it wont anymore. a medium strength moderately priced pint of your choice is the reward, subject to location and availability
