Connect 3 Wired Devices To Router With 1 Port
Mar 1, 2013
I currently have an old Linksys WRT54G router with 4 ethernet and 1 internet port. I have an old Sprint 660 modem connected to the router for internet access. I am also using 3 of the 4 ethernet ports for wired devices (main PC, NAS drive and Dish Network net access). I have another PC and a printer connected wirelessly to the router. Now, with my modem going bad, CenturyLink has provided a combo modem/router (EQ660DR-F1) to be used in place of my Linksys router/modem, providing wired, wireless and modem capabilities in one.My problem is that the new router/modem has only one ethernet port along with a DSL port. Obviously, I can connect my main PC to the ethernet port, DSL to the modem port and connect my 2nd PC and printer wirelessly as they are now. How I might connect my other 2 wired devices, possibly by a hub, AP or bridge or some other means? Can one of these be connected by wireless to connect the other 2 devices, or do these have to be connected physically by wire?

All of a sudden my laptop, android phone and blu ray player (all wireless devices) can't communicate with my wired devices (marantz receiver and samsung tv). Everything still connects to the internet independently but i can't for instance play music from my wireless laptop to my wired marantz receiver. I had no trouble with this last week and didn't change anything (that I'm aware of) I did get Verizon to switch out my router but it didn't solve anything. My wife's computer also cannot connect to wired devices. Lastly, if I connect my laptop with via ethernet cable it sees wired devices fine. I tried shutting off windows firewall but didn't work. I have no other firewall/virus software installed. I can ping to all devices (wired and wireless) from my laptop.

I would like to connect my USB WIFI dongle directly to my wired router, this would enable me to have wifi access without having my PC switched on all the time, is this possible and if so what kind of adapter do I need? I think I need USB A Female to Ethernet RJ45 Male Router Adapter.

I am currently using a DIR-655 for the home wireless network.DSL into a 2-Wire home portal (not wireless) and ethernet into the DIR-655.I need to connect a number of wired devices in a couple of different rooms. Some streaming HDTV content to other devices in other rooms. I'm thinking of the following:
-DIR-655 routing between the DSL subnet to the internet, the 2.4GHz wireless and a couple of wired devices.
-DAP-1522 routing between the 2.4GHz wireless, 5GHz wireless, and a few wired devices.
-DAP-1522 bridging between the 5GHz wireless and a few wired devices.
All devices will/may need internet access.HDTV content would be between wired devices and only over the 5GHz wireless (no HDTV to/from internet). Is the DAP-1522 the right device(s) for this?

I have a linksys wrt54g router. i need to block all devices except one from plugging in a wired device into the back of the router. i tried the mac filtering, but i didnt work. Is that for wireless only?I can also block local ips (192.168.1.x), and was going to go that route and only allow my local computer but i was afraid if i restarted my router or computer the ip would change and i would be locked out.

Is it possible to create a service which will forward public port 9010 to an internal IP address with port 23?First of all, I do not like to open the public Telnet port to the inside so I would use another public port and second my ISP does not allow some public ports beneath port 80?

I just now installed a new EA4500 Router. It installed itself automatically without a problem, by running the setup CD. No devices other than my hard wired computer and modem are connected yet.
When I went into Start > Cisco Connect to look around and check it's version, etc., I immediately got a "There's an important update for your router" notice. My concern is not wanting to install The Cloud at this time (although I wouldn't rule it out later). There has not been a trace of it so far.
I currently have Firmware Version: 2.0.36.126507 and Software Version: 1.4.12100.0. What this Important Update may be? Is it the "dreaded" Cloud? I'd rather avoid the whole rolling back to pre-Cloud issue for now, if possible.

In my LAN environment, I'm using two cisco SG300-10 switches. Both switches are connected by GE10 on both switches, where both ports are set to trunk. Now on all ports 1-9 on both switches, I'm having client computers attached. So I set ports 1-9 to "access" mode. All interfaces on any switch is left in default vlan.
Is it normal that I see all traffic from all connected devices on any port where I connect a listening device? What I'd like to achieve is, that only traffic that is meant for a specific workstation is actually forwarded to this workstation. By now it seems that I get all the traffic from everybody.

I need more than 10 port forwards.and if so would I have to set the second router up with the internet provider log in and password like the first router?

I have a wireless G router and all of my devices that connect to it right now all have wireless adapters. I have several devices in a media closet (about 3 or 4 - Blu ray, DVR, ect) that only have wired ports. Since all these devices are right next to each other, I don't need to buy a wireless adapter for each one because that's just pointless. is there a way to have all 4 of these wired devices connect to a central device, which in turn this device connects to my wireless network? I know there is a way I just haven't been able to figure it out.And then, with this new device, is there some special way it has to be configured?

I am trying to setup an RV016 router to do "1 to 1 NAT". I am starting with setting the external IP address of my RV016 to 10.8.58.219 on the WAN1 port, and LAN IP 10.10.20.254. Simple enough. When I connect my laptop to port1 on the router's LAN side I can ping the router's external AND internal IP addresses fine; But I can not ping from outside when connected through WAN1 port.I am performing a simple local test with an external hub, I put a patch cable from WAN1 port to the hub, another patch cable from port 1 on LAN side to the same hub, and from my laptop to the hub. When I use my laptop's IP address with the internal schema (10.10.20.100 for example) I can ping both WAN1 and LAN IP's; but when I use on my laptop the external IP schema (10.8.58.100 for example) I can not ping it. Therefore is not working when I connect my router to the real network.I went into the web setup pages of the router and dissabled: firewall and basicaly all security "blocks" it has, and leave it open for my testing.

I just need to know what to do with this RV042. I have two modems, a cable and an ADSL. Both are configure correctly, in bridge mode. Both work fine when connected to WAN1, but when connected to WAN2 they never go online (dont' get IP address). The connect lights are on but they never go online.

I am using an RV042 router/firewall -- firmware v1.3.13.02-tm -- connected to a cable modem.I have one public address (WAN1) assigned by my ISP's DHCP server. All my machines on the LAN have static IPs. (RV042 DHCP Server is disabled.)I have set up port (80) forwarding to 192.168.1.101. The HTTP port forwarding does work if an http client on the LAN sends a request to url...But I cannot get a response if I send a request to url... from a machine on the WAN.I did configure Access Rules to allow http traffic (and then tried to allow *all* traffic) between a single IP on the WAN and 192.168.1.101.
The incoming log table shows a connection is made from the http client on the WAN to the correct http server on the LAN, but there is no resonse from the LAN to the WAN.Is my configuration the problem, or is this feature not supported by the RV042 router?Could my cable modem be blocking outbound traffic?

I have a system with a RV042 managing the internet connection.Behind the RV042 I have an e-mail server and a development machine that I access through SSH.My problem is that if I forward port 25 to my internal e-mail server it bypasses the firewall rules.I have an external vires and spam scan host that is the only one I should accept incoming email from - but it seems that whenever you add a portforward then it bypasses the firewall rules.

I have a Cisco Linksys E2500 modem and I cannot access Zoneminder which is essentially a Linux Security video DVR software package. It is running on a Ubuntu Linux server.
I have HTTP port 80 forwarded to the the static IP address of the Ubuntu server but I repeatedly get a error indicating that the connection timed out whenever I try to access Zoneminder remotely as in remotely accessing it from a coffee shop.
I have absolutely no problem accessing Zoneminder when I on my home local LAN.
I can access other software from remote locations on port 4369 with a TCP preferred protocol setting. That is, port 4369 is forwarded to another Windows workstation with an assigned static IP address. Absolutely no problems with port forwarding of 4369.
Also, I've tested port 80 on the YouGetSignal website which is used for testing port forwarding. The website indicates that port 80 is closed. But when I test port 4369, the website reports that the port is open. Zoneminder which uses port 80 is fully operational when I test port 80 via YouGetsignal.
My ISP has told me that they do not block any ports including port 80.

Just bought a dir-655, set it up (all though the wizard wasn't working, it kept getting stuck on step 5 of 7) so I just configured everything manually.I'm getting 2.4 MB/s speeds wirelessly.I was expecting much better, my wireless g linksys router did just slightly lower than that. My xbox 360 can't even stream HD without buffering every few mins. It also will just stop, and be unable to see the media for a couple minutes (when doing HD).I have wireless setup as WPA2, and the devices I use wirelessly are N devices. I have the router setup to only use wireless N.

I was wondering if there was any way with a typical home router (for instance I have a Linksys WRT160N) to create a wireless network which is essentially sandboxed from the rest of my network. Basically I want devices on this network to be able to access the Internet only, but not any of the other computers on the network.

I have a BEFSX41 connected to a Motorola SB6120. I changed my plan for a hgih speed, but did not see it.Had a tech out and we found when direct connected to my computer, I get 50 Mbps. When connected through the router, about 9 Mbps. I swapped cables, but still the same.
Is there any way to determine the connection speed on the Internet port? It seems that it only running at 10, when both the router and modem support 100.

I have a BEFSR41 ver 4.3 and I upgraded my firmware to 2.00.4.8 from within the router. Had a problem with the flashing power light. Resolved the issue after reading another post on this forum using the TFTP utility. Now, however, if I go into either Port Forwarding or Port Triggering and change anything, there is no Save Changes button to click on in either page. They are missing. If I click away, or close the browser and come back, all changes I made are lost. I have tried reloading the firmware at least four times. I've powered off, pressed the reset button and any combination of these that you can reasonably think of. The buttons are gone! I have tried accessing the router from both IE and Firefox, accessing the router from all the machines on my network, to no avail. Everything was working fine before the upgrade, of course. The router does not have the option to save the old firmware before any upgrades are made. The original firmware has been overwritten so I can't go back to it.

Ive had this 655 for about a year now and it has been rock solid. But, there has been one slight issue.
And and all wireless devices can see each other and all wired devices can see each other....but the wired cant see the wireless and vis versa.
The wireless devices (W7 and Vista laptops) can see the wired devices when they are plugged in. But my phone and Galaxy Tab can only see whatever wireless devices there are (cant be plugged in). Even my wired Samsung TV cant see the shares on the Tab or wireless laptops (and vis versa). So, its certainly not a firewall or OS config issue.
Now, I made sure they are all connecting via the main SSID and not the "isolated" Guest SSID....but its acting like the main SSID is isolated from the wired LAN somehow.
Firmware 1.34. IPs for the wired and wireless devices are all in the 1.2 - 1.50 range.

My wireless devices are having a hard time connecting though my router. They see the router and can connect to it but cannot get on the internet. Usually if I reboot my router some of my devices will connect but if I leave them idle for any amount of time the connection is dropped. Suggestions. I have Dell 530 desktop running Vist Home Premium and the router is Dlink Dir 615. The desktop has no issues connecting to the internet as it is connected through LAN port

I want to connect my ps3, sky hd+ box and samsung smart tv. Upstairs is my wireless router and I have connected to this by using a power supply networking adaptor (duvelo). I have since purchased a cheap ethernet switch from ebay and plugged this into the power adaptor connection next to my ps3, sky hd+ and samsung smart tv downstairs. I thought by connecting these 3 devices to the switch (which is connected to the duvelo adaptor) I could have all 3 devices simultaneously connected online. However, I still can only have 1 ethernet cable in the switch at once and hence only connect 1 device at a time.

As the subject says, I've hooked up a Samsung BD player to a BEFSR41 router. The router has the current firmware version. When I run the connection test for the player, the local connection is good but the Internet connection fails and the message is " The HTTP port is disabled."
I've searched high and low for a solution to no avail. I did searches on the forum and couldn't find anything. As a test, I connected the BD player directly to the DSL modem and the Internet connection worked perfectly so it appears that the blockage is within the router.
I've serched through the router setup and have changed most settings to try and find something that would work. Nothing worked so I have returned my setup to its original state.
