Connect Two Wireless Routers Using A Wire?
Apr 19, 2011
I am trying to connect two wireless routers together so I can use the wireless n on one and have g on the other to allow smart phones to connect to it.I have cable internet and it is connected to my wireless n router (Linksys WRT320n) and I would like to connect another wireless router (Netgear WPN824) to it by a wire.So far I have connected the two routers by a cable from the linksys into the wan port on the netgear. I have assigned the netgear router a ip address 192.168.2.1, which is different from the linksys 192.168.1.1 I have also turned off DHCP on the netgear. The wireless network from the linksys is called NETWORK1 and the wireless network on the netgear is called NETWORK2 When I connect to the netgear using a cable the internet works. However I cannot get an internet connection through the netgear's wireless network.

So I have this E1500 Router that worked fine for the past 5 months, then out of the blue, the wireless feature ceased to function... laptops were not being able to connect to the wireless, the router was also not broadcasting the SSID.So, here's what I have done so far:
1. Check the router software settings, all was good there.
2. Did a "hardware reset" pushing the red button. (now this solved the problem, BUT only for a day, when power is turned off for the night, the next day it's non-functional again. The cycle can be repeated daily, but its a pain to reset and set it up everyday)
3. Updated the Firmware, and this somehow solved the problem for 3 Days... and now it's back to non-functional, again out of the Blue.
Is the Router just busted and it's not remembering the settings?

Someone I know has a Linksys WRT54GX V.2 (no WDS capability at all to my knowledge) and a Netgear N300 WNR 2000 V3 (with the repeater option). He wants to connect one to the internet in a home. The other would go out to his shop and he would like to get the internet out there too. He would also like to access the internet wirelessly with a laptop at either end. He has a wireless laptop setup and it works. The shop is line of sight with the home with no obstacles. A wire will not be able to connect one wireless router with the other due to terrain features. His laptop can get the internet from the Linksys (the Linksys is set up in the home) while he is in part of the shop, and he is trying to increase the range so that he can move to another part of the shop.

Hardware Version : V1.0
Firmware Version : 3.12.11 build 120328 ref. 63398
i just got a new TP Link TL-MR3040 V1.0.While setting up the router page on wireless and saw the firmware is an old version 3.12.11 build 120328 ref. 63398.Did a check on the TP link site and there is a new firmware update TL-MR3040_V1_120822.I have downloaded the new firmware but dont know how to do it. Read the confusing "how to guide ......" but was stated "Do NOT upgrade the firmware via wireless connection"
Question : how to connect with LAN wire ? Try plugging btw the computer LAN and the router LAN.... can't access the 192.168.0.1
Question : any proper step-by-step guide on how to update the firmware?

I just installed windows 7 into my computer and I need to verify my copy of windows. I tried connect my Ethernet wire from my computer to the wireless router but it's not connecting or registering. The wireless router is a WRT54G and I can access the device ip for it but I don't know how to assign an IP address for the new computer. I already had a computer (wired) and a laptop (wireless) connected to the router. I'm using a straight trough Ethernet wire Doing the steps in the sticied post below didn't work because typing ipconfig /release didn't work?

I have DIR-601 wireless router with two computers connected: Server (192.168.1.2) and Client (192.168.1.3 on Ethernet Port and 192.168.1.4 on Wireless)
I also use dlinkddns.com and my router's public IP is mapped as abc.dlinkddns.com.
In the router Virtual Server section, it is configured as:
Public Port: 3389 (for Remote Desktop)
Private Port: 3389
IP Address: 192.168.1.2 (server's IP)
I am expecting this to allow the client to access the server via windows Remote Desktop.
The current situation is:
- When wireless is on, the client can access the server's Remote Desktop
- When wireless is off and client is connected by wired Ethernet, the client cannot connect to the server's remote desktop. After timeout, the error msg is "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: ...".
- When the client is in another network, it can connect to the server through the Internet.
I am sure it's not the client's problem because it can access via wireless or remotely from another network. It's not the router's virtual server config problem for the same reasons. Will it be a bug in the router? (hardware version: B1, firmware version: 2.00NA).

I wired it all up correctly, and Continue to get "error 322: check router" upon every attempted install. I did some research and tried releasing and renewing IP amongst restarting all networking devices AND PC's. Peculiar enough, I could connect AND get online wirelessly from a netbook, but neither of my 2 PC's could connect via a wire. I got a defective router, is it possible the ports are malfunctioning? because the lights are on, but 3 or all of the 4 lights are continually on when only 2 ports are plugged in

Just purchased WRT54GL for family friend to extend the wireless range of their DSL via 2Wire ATT modem Wireless router. One desktop computer will stay wired to the 2Wire and laptop or 2 will connect to the WRT54GL since the 2Wire cannot reach into the yard (metal buiding). I've seen several examples of connecting two WRT54G together. I Can I do that well with std Linksys software or would I be better off downloading Tomato or DD-WRT third party?

I have a wireless lan controller (5508) broadcasting 2 SSID's, once is a secure vlan grabbing an ip address from a local dhcp server and getting access to the internal network, and the other ssid is for a guest vlan where the dhcp server is in a remote site and internet access is off a circuit in our data center which is accessed over a wan. The secure ssid's vlan is defined on the local switch, but the guest vlan is not defined on the local switch.the ap's in the respective sites are trunked to the core switch and the switchport config is : [code] it's trunked b/c we have both vlans going across this physical connection.I would like get the guest vlan a wired connection, ie. off a switchhub, but not sure how to do that as this guest vlan is not defined on our local network.

When I plug an ethernet cable in, the computer does not recognize the cable, and tells me a cable is unplugged...which of course it isn't.

The router works fine until I plug the 4th wire in the back, which goes to a 2nd desktop computer, then it is only a matter of time until the router drops all internet connections including the direct wire to desktop #1, wireless, and the other two wires. This is my 2nd e2000 router since Amazon replaced the first one after about 4 months as it was having the same problem.

Today I replaced my motherboard to fix the graphics card issue on my Vostro 1400. After installing the motherboard I installed the driver's from Dell's site for the networking card.
I get an error stating device driver/software was not successfully installed. I tried a restore point, that didn't work either. I tried the original driver disc that came with the laptop - same problem.
In device manager it is showing: broadcom netlink adapter fast ethernet #2 - does that mean it thinks I have more than one network card? I'm not sure what to do next. I can't access any wireless from that laptop, not even from a hard wire.
I'm running Windows 7 32 bit.

I purchased Linksys (Cisco) EA2700. For the moment it is being used as an access point for a wireless network (WLAN) and an Ethernet switch. 4 laptops are being connected to it through the wireless network, the wire connects one computer and a separate ADSL modem (it is used for accessing Internet). As a result minimal ping to any of the devices in wireless network is 8 ms – the best result and sometimes rises to 20 ms. Consequently when working with local network resources one suffers from speed decrease. Ping to the access point through the wire varies from 1 to 8 ms. These delays are quite strange as even on cheaper routers ping does not rise above 2 ms (usually <1ms). Is it normal for the device?

My home is about 20 years old. I want to pull out all the old phone wiring and replace it with CAT-5 cabling. I have several questions.
1) Is it likely the phone cable is loose in the walls, or is it typically tied down inside the walls? Therefore, can I use the phone cable to pull the CAT-5 (unterminated)?
2) I heard that fire code construction demands that holes in the wall joists be filled - is that true?
3) Any least invasive way to get CAT-5 around my home? I can pull to only a select few spots if it's very difficult.
