How To Use 2 Wire Box As Wifi
Sep 3, 2012
My parents took the modem from the inside of my room to use it on their WEAK computer in their room that they RARELY USE. And even though i can give them a wireless usb they say they wan't it in THEIR ROOM. so ofcourse it pissed me off that my 8 core 8 gig rig would have to resort to wireless but whatever. We have a 2wire740 box from at&t. This one to be exact. url...My question is can i use the Clear modem and plug it into the 2wire740 so that it can broadcast for me to be able to still get internet ?

So, I have TalkTalk broadband. For the past few years I have used the WiFi not connecting with the Yellow wire. But now I want to move a PC up stairs. I brought a longer White wire so it would reach from downstairs where it is plugged in to upstairs (if I just plug in modem in upstairs it will not connect) So this is the idea I have downstairs the phone that is plugged into another white wire extender that leads from the main plug in the wall. In that extender is the phone and the OTHER extender that leads upstairs to a room just above. The extender leading upstairs has the internet modem plugged into it. now the extender white wire from the other extender downstairs has one of those white square plugs. (the ones that go from the main socket and the phone and modem connects too) And that Square plug is where the modem is plugged into. BUT now this is the annoying part! it will not connect to the internet without being in the same plug as the phone downstairs!

I don't see a forum for the DIR-665 so I am posting this here.I have setup my network using the DIR-665. I can print to my network printer (not plugged into router usb it is a Network printer) from WIN XP and Mac Snow Leopard and Lion via a network cable.
When I connect to the router via WIFI it shows the printer is ready. Then I click print and it starts trying to find the printer but then fails saying the printer is not on the network.

My home is about 20 years old. I want to pull out all the old phone wiring and replace it with CAT-5 cabling. I have several questions.
1) Is it likely the phone cable is loose in the walls, or is it typically tied down inside the walls? Therefore, can I use the phone cable to pull the CAT-5 (unterminated)?
2) I heard that fire code construction demands that holes in the wall joists be filled - is that true?
3) Any least invasive way to get CAT-5 around my home? I can pull to only a select few spots if it's very difficult.

I am trying to connect two wireless routers together so I can use the wireless n on one and have g on the other to allow smart phones to connect to it.I have cable internet and it is connected to my wireless n router (Linksys WRT320n) and I would like to connect another wireless router (Netgear WPN824) to it by a wire.So far I have connected the two routers by a cable from the linksys into the wan port on the netgear. I have assigned the netgear router a ip address 192.168.2.1, which is different from the linksys 192.168.1.1 I have also turned off DHCP on the netgear. The wireless network from the linksys is called NETWORK1 and the wireless network on the netgear is called NETWORK2 When I connect to the netgear using a cable the internet works. However I cannot get an internet connection through the netgear's wireless network.

i am a gamer and i rely on the internet to do some buisiness as well, a few months ago my router started randomly dropping me from my connection and then 10 seconds later the connection is back up. now i know alot about computers and cant figure out why this is happening. it seems that the problem starts with skype. when i play some games while in skype(we use it as a communication device for the games) i will get dropped from skype and from my game, then skype reconects and i can reconect to the game but 5 minutes later it happens again. i have at&t and am using a 2701HG-B, my donwload speed is a max of 3mbps and usualy is around 2.7mbps. i have contacted at&t multiple times, i have reset my router multiple times but it hasnt fixed the problem. at&t stated that i am demanding too much bandwith from my connection. i feel that this info totally crap. when im on with just 1 of my many devices at 3am and all i am doing is playing a game and talking on skype and it disconnects, there is no way i am demanding too much.

My housemates have been having a trouble with network coverage in my house, the router is located in the basement of my house, perfect for me as my room is also down there (Ethernet). Unfortunately my housemate in the attic room's signal seems to be a problem. I'm wondering if it would be possible to remove one of my routers two antennas solder some copper wire to the spot it was removed, then have the wire go up to the 1st floor and re-solder the antenna up there (mount it on the wall or something). I'm confident with the practicalities of actually doing this, but I'm not that techie when it comes to electronics. I'm not sure whether it would need more power to boost it over such a distance.

I'm trying to connect my computer to our router with no success. Windows doesn't detect the wire when I plug it in, no matter which one I use. This has never been a problem before I recently installed Windows 7 HP.I had no wireless connection to the router either after I installed the new Windows, but following an answer to a remotely similar question in the forum fixed it ('scan for hardware changes' on "Realtek Wireless LAN" under Network Adapters in Device Manager)

I've had a 2Wire gateway that I got from AT&T for about 5 years. Although I've seen terrible reviews for 2Wire, I've had pretty good luck with this one. Now the Power light is a steady red and only light on. Tech support says that it's most likely the power adapter. As I understand, most what are called modems or routers today are a combination of these two, is that right? I see them in stores ranging from $30 to $200 or more, and they all say they do the same thing - almost identical wording. If it turns out that my adapter is good, what should I be looking for?

However it works fine when re-arrange its color combination into standard, (Same cable, only color difference). So, why this Color scheme is important? And what is the secret behind its color combination? This is Standard Color Scheme for Ethernet.
