View 4 RepliesI had been using my Linksys wireless-G PCI adapter WMP54Gv4 in a PC running XP (SP3) and an Airport Extreme wireless router for the past 4 or 5 years without any issues. Then recently, my wireless signal had become flaky on all client machines (on both PC and various Macs, which reported weak signal and kept dropping and searching for a new PPPoE from my DSL line). AT&T verified our line was fine and even sent a new modem but troubles persisted, so I bought a new Airport Extreme last week. This solved the network reliability issue on the Macs just fine.
However, the PC with the WMP54Gv4 adapter now crashes whenever the new Airport Extreme is turned on. There have been no hardware or software changes on the PC, yet it now reliably produces a BSOD stating "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". This crash also happens when booting in safe mode with networking. I can avoid the system crash when booting in safe mode without networking or booting normally without my Airport Extreme turned on, though I do see this error: "Linksys Wireless Network Monitor: Access violation at address 0040756D in module EMP54Gv4.exe"
So I cannot run any tests of the PCI card on the machine when the wireless network is on, since the operating system crashes.
The evidence thus points to an explanation where my wireless network from the new Airport Extreme is tripping up the operation of the linksys wireless card in a way that XP hates. I know the wireless network is OK, since it works fine on my Macs. I confirmed that my driver (v3.0.3.0) is still listed as current for this PCI card, so it's not a matter of having an out-of-date driver.
Here's another observation that may be relevant: When I first started using the new Airport Extreme with WPA2 protection, the PC could run without crashing, but it could not connect to the wireless network. I also had trouble connecting via my Macs. Then I switched the Airport Extreme to use WPA/WPA2 security, which is when the network-based PC crashing ensued (though the Macs can now connect just fine).
I've recently purchased an E4200, and while it works great, I'd like to use my Apple Airport Extreme (2nd generation) to extend my network to another part of the house that doesn't get as great of a signal. I've become very frustrated trying to accomplish it, and I'm not sure if the problem is more from the Linksys end, the Airport end, or if it's just me.

I've played around a little tring to configure the Airport extreme but can't seem to get it to connect to my E4200v2? Can you mod the Airprt Extreme with dd-wrt or something that might unlock some of the features?I can't stand the interface. The E4200v2 is brand new.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a rev. 1.0 Cisco E2000 router that is decent but when it comes to things like streaming video it severely lacks (especially when talking about HD quality). I know that the router is not really setup for that and it was more of an impulse buy when my old WRT54G v6 died on me. Anyways, I recently got $150 in gift cards to Apple and was thinking of spending it on the Airport Extreme as my wife has a 13" Macbook Pro and we plan on replacing out aging desktop PC with an iMac 21". Originally the gift cards were meant to go to the purchase of the iMac but car repairs and other things got in the way and so that has been put off indefinitely. However, I would LOVE to get a new router, especially simultaneous dual-band.
Quick edit: Things I am looking for in a router....
- SIMULTANEOUS DUAL BAND
- USB connection
- Relatively cheap cost (less than $150 would be awesome!)
- Reliable
- Good throughput for streaming and gaming

I am trying to get wifi signal in the living room in the first floor area on the other side of house. I have an Apple AirPort express halfway from the living room extending the Extreme's wifi signal, however this is not enough.I bought an Amped Wireless SR10000 repeater which i placed in the living room and was picking up the wifi from the express fine, however after one day of use, the devices would not connect unless I set a static ip from within the device. I am guessing there is some sort of DHCP conflict in the setup.I tried turning off the DHCP from the Amped Repeater but it still would not lease out IP's (I thought in doing so, the main 2nd fl extreme router would be the one in control).

One is currently wired to one of the airport extremes LAN ports...Now what I am trying to achieve - the second xbox is an old one so needs to be plugged in by cable too... (and I don't want two cables through the house). I have an old Netgear wpn824v2 router. Now so far I plugged the ethernet cable from airport x into one of the lan ports on the Netgear...Then both xboxs are wired into the netgear... The netgear has basically nothing setup on it - no security etc... ip address is on the same network as DHCP router.Netgear has upnp and dhcp disabled...Now stand alone one xbox at a time, the connection is actually faster than I have ever achieved, the full 50mb - but if i wire up my laptop to the netgear and use the internet at the same time the xbox lags like hell, so obviously not tried both xboxs together yet as it will just cause lag!

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the past year my wireless has been working great and I have being playing games/doing homework with no hassle. Yestetday my internet connection became very slow. After countless restarts, router/modem resets nothing has changed and I only get like 5kb of download speed. Since my internet connection was lost naturally I unplugged the wireless card and re-plugged it, didn't change anything. After that I restarted my computer, but nothing changed. AFTER THAT I unplugged my router, then reset my router to factory settings, which did not change anything. Since everything was backed up I thought I would reinstall Windows 7 to nuke any hidden problems. After 2 reinstalls of Windows 7, nothing has changed. Next I had Comcast reset my connection with them which did not work. Though it did work with my brothers desktop. After some more time just fiddling around my connection went back to lightning speeds. no.....4 hours later my connection went dead.At all times my computer will see my network but it either will not connect to it or it is really really slow now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a Linksys WRTU54G-TM that serves both as a hotspot and phone line (T-Mobile). But since it's a G, the radius doesn't cover the whole house. So instead of buying an antenna, we bought another router (Cisco Factory Refurbished Linksys E1200 Advanced Wireless-N).
So the question is: How do we connect both routers to one modem properly, the N-Wireless to be used when necessary?
I have an AirPort Express set up as my router, and that works fine and is the main network that I use. I would like to wirelessly connect the Linksys to my main network, so I can print even when connected to my Airport Express.Does that mean that I have to configure the Linksys as an access point? View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect my laptop running windows 7 to an airport express so I can stream music to my hi-fi.I've tried a number of different things, none of which have been successful.I've tried resetting the device before each attempt to connect it and I've also ensured that the driver for my computer's Wi-Fi (Intel (R) Wi-Fi link 5100 AGN) and the firmware for my router (Linksys E2000) are up to date. The apple airport utility program is also up to date. I also saw this webpage:Sharing my Win 7 PC with Apple Airport Extreme and wireless network. - Microsoft Answers And, all these settings were correct already.I also took the device back to the shop where it was tested and found to be working correctly.
Just plugging in my airport express - Opening the airport utility program, my airport express is recognized straight away. It is highlighted in the left-hand pane and I click on continue. I then get a message asking if I want to switch networks and it says that this is required in order to set it up. I click OK to continue. After a window appears saying that it is detecting apple wireless devices, I get error message number 4 saying that an error occurred while trying to access the network. It then asks me to check to make sure my network is valid.Using ‘configure other under the file tab - The airport express is still recognized in the left-hand pane but I click on configure other. A window appears asking for the I.P. address and a password. I enter the default I.P. address (10.0.1.1) and the default password (public) for the airport express. I then get error 6753 (an error occurred while trying to access the apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again)however, my computer still recognizes the airport express in the list of available wireless networks. I therefore click on it and connect to it. I then try to enter the details (under configure other again). I then get through to the configure apple wireless device screen in which I can input the details of my network details, etc. I enter the details and make sure that they match my routers settings (I have even tried this with no security settings on my router). I then click on update. The computer automatically reverts back to my network and it seems like everything is working. The green light even appears on my airport express. However, I then get a message stating: Airport utility was unable to find your wireless Airport device after restarting.Switching off the wireless network and connecting the Airport express to the computer with an Ethernet cable - The device is also recognized here and I can enter all the details. Before updating I turn on my wireless network so it can make a connection. The green light shows on the airport express but i again get the message that: Airport utility was unable to find your wireless Airport device after restarting.

View 9 Replies View RelatedA client is using Tmobile VOIP using the aforementioned WRTU54G-TM 2-line VOIP wireless router with 4-port hub. What they would like to do is to place this in their network and NOT have it change (route) the network addresses being assigned to devices 'behind' this router so even their wireless devices are all "on the same network" as the wired devices BEFORE this unit, In essence, preserve the same 'network and subnet mask' that is being issued by their DSL router via it's integrated DHCP server. ... Rather like operating this unit like an 'access point' instead of a router.Under most circumstances, I might try to assign this router a static IP outside the scope of the DHCP range the DSL router would supply, then plug the (gigabit) Ethernet network cable into one of the 4 Ethernet ports on the rear of this router - but apparently this does not 'facilitate' a connection to Tmobile's VOIP service. When attempting to do this, the connected telephone devices do not get a phone line connection and the status light(s) that normally indicate proper operation do not illuminate.

Was online the other night when my network suddenly dropped out on me. I assumed it was the router, not my computer, so I restarted it and got nothing. Same with my modem. Then I completely reset the router and, obviously, lost the network I had set up. Didn't realize until today, when I downloaded the setup instructions and reinstalled the router with a new network that the problem might actually be with my computer. I can use the ethernet port to access the web both with the direct line from the modem and when using a line through my router, I just can't get my computer to work on the network I set up. I know the network is valid because it works with my smart phone and a couple of other devices. On my Mac, it shows up in the list of available networks and has full signal strength. Diagnostics in network preferences gives me the following message: "AirPort has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet."

Is there a way where i can set up the airport express on a total different frequency to everything else in the house i.e laptops iphones etc to prevent these cutouts.
I have an Airport Express and two wireless routers. The Airport Express is connected to Router 1 via Ethernet. Router 2 is connected to Router 1 via Ethernet. Since I like to know which Wireless Router I'm connected to, Router 1 & 2 use different SSIDs. Router 1 is the DHCP server (DHCP turned off on Router 2). All security settings are turned OFF.Router 1 is a Linksys WRT120N with latest firmware and Router 2 is a Belkin Wireless Router.I can connect via wireless to Router 1 and Router 2 via the seperate SSIDs and have Internet connectivity (Router 1 is connected the the Internet) and print to a wireless printer connecter to the Router 1 wireless network.
Now here is the strange thing. I can see the Airport Express only if I connect to the Router 2 wireless network!!! I cannot see it if I connect to the Router 1 wireless network, yet the Airport Express is connected via Ethernet to ROUTER 1 !So for some reason, the LinkSys WRT120N Wireless Router won't route the Airport Express to a wireless client on it's own wireless network, but it will route it to an Ethernet client which is what any client connected to Router 2 wirelesslessly is seen as. When connected to router 1 wirelessly I can ping the IP of the Airport but something is preventing it from working with iTunes/iPhone/Airport Utility. It is bizarre because these are all devices connected to the same LAN. SInce I can ping it, it tells me that it isn't a routing issue, but there must be some sort of filter between the wireless and ethernet that is preventing the Airport protocol from being transmitted.
