Connection To Internet Keeps Resetting Itself
Aug 28, 2011
For the past 3 days, my connection to the internet has been resetting itself. I get the following message: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Please try again in a few minutes.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the web.
Now, this happens with only certain sites. The sites it mainly happens to are Playlist.com, MyYearbook.com, and Vampirefreaks.com. I can be on youtube and facebook, and it will be perfectly fine. But once I go to one of the other 3 sites, I get that message, and it completely makes me incapable of browsing the web. I'm forced to close out of everything, and wait at least 5-10 minutes. I've looked around seeing what could be the problem. I've deleted cookies, cache, temporary internet files. I've made sure Firefox was permitted to access the web; used a different browser. I even did system restoration, but all it did was take me back exactly 3 days ago, when the problem first began.I use a lap top, called Asus. It's a 64-bit, Windows 7 operated. I connect to my parents' internet. Our service provider is Comcast. We called them to see if they were having a problem and they said no, everything was perfectly fine on their end; and they refreshed the modem.

specs: linksys router wrt160n v3, verizon modem gt701c, windows xp service pack 3, verizon DSL, southern california.I have been able to connect to the internet directly through the modem only...but i need my wireless back working. I've reset my router a few times recently trying things i've read on forums from people with similar problems. The most recent thing i did was RESET the router -> connected modem/router/computer properly -> turned them all back on in the proper order -> check to see if websites would open. They didn't so i tried doing this, which was suggested...i plugged the router into the computer and enabled MAC address and then pressed the Clone MAC address button and saved....then I tturned everything off again and rebooted everything again in the proper order and still couldn't load any web pages. Here are my IPCONFIG/ALL read outs for both when i'm hooked up with the router & modem (which isnt working) and directly to the modem (which is working) this is the one with the router & modem:
C:Documents and SettingsOwner>ipconfig/all
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : shakas
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
[code]....
My modem and wireless were working fine for years...and then recently without me doing anything my modem kept dropping connection and the internet and dsl lights kept flashing and then going back solid....so i'd be connected for a few minutes and then they'd start flashing again over and over all the time. I finally called verizon and then had me fiddle around with stuff...followed all their directions...but ended up only being able to connect while directly connected to the modem. Even then, the modem was still losing connection and getting it back. (i was supposed to schedule a house call for a tech to check it out, never did) Over a couple weeks the connection ended up getting better on its own, so now it pretty much never drops out anymore. (almost) i've reset my modem, i've reset my router....i just still cant seem to get websites working with my modem and wireless router connected.

Alright so, for the past few weeks, the modem has been resetting itself, by that I mean, I am browsing the net/playing something, then the four lights turn into 1 blinking.. then 2 blinking.. then 3 blinking.. then return to 4 lights and I get my connection back, this is happening every 5-10 minutes and terminates game sessions.

Recently, whenever I download something my internet will just crash for a second, I think it may be realted to my router because the internet light on my router changes from the connected state (solid blue) to the connecting state (flashing orange) at the same time. The router I use is a belkin router and I have access to its gateway using my internet browser. recently reformatted my c drive to fix a bsod on this pc, before this reformat this problem did not exist.

we hadn't have the WEP key on our Linksys wireless router, so we decided, about a month ago, that it was a good idea to lock our wireless connection. So we did. For a couple of weeks, everything worked just fine. But then we bought a new printer, which happened to be a wireless network printer, and in the process of installing it, we mistook the reset button (I think) on the router for some other button and ended up resetting the router. When we did that, we undid WEP key, thereby unlocking the router. Then, we locked the router again, at which point one of our computers--which happens to be mine--ended up not working. All other computers and phones and iPads work just fine, but this one laptop of mine just doesn't work (with respect to wireless internet connections, of course).
- pressing the reset button on the router again. It kind of works. The internet works for about five or ten minutes (which is unbearably annoying because I have to reconnect it every five minutes), but my computer somehow disconnects itself from the internet connection. Also, although the internet technically "works," the wireless network icon thing on the bottom right of the screen has an "X" on it, which I thought meant the internet is not working, but it apparently doesn't, because my internet is working now. And, if I click the icon, it says that I'm not connected, but, again, the internet works. (for about 5~10 minutes, if I unlock the router)
- changing the internet protocol information (I don't think it does anything, but.)
- changing the wireless internet connection property to WPA, WPA-PSK... everything.
*All computers in the house have wireless internet connections but mine.
*When I reset the router, the internet works, although the computer says it isn't connected, and it disconnects itself every 5 or 10 minutes.

I'm having a very difficult time getting my WRT54GS to work with my Westell 6100 modem. I've been bouncing around gathering info, and what I've learned is that the goofy way CenturyLink tech support told me to hook up my old wired router (modem line into outgoing (LAN) router port) is because the Westell 6100 is a "smart modem/router". Therefore, when I run the Linksys setup CD, it sees the modem as a router, and won't properly configure. I've also learned that the Westell modem can be "dumbed down" into simply a modem by putting it into "bridge mode", which is where I'm at right now - trying to get it reset to factory defaults and resetting the connection type from PPPoE to Bridge. In the meantime, I also reset the WRT54GS to factory defaults, and now I've got another problem: the router will not allow me to set up encryption. The default setting is "Disabled", and when I click the down arrow and try to make any selection at all (preferred selection is WPA2 Personal), it reverts to Disabled. I've also tried to change the router's IP address to 192.168.2.1 (and alternately to 192.168.1.253), so it won't conflict with the modem's IP, and it freezes up every time I try.

I have to keep restting my wep key password for my wireless lap top to access the router. It stays logged on for some time but then is looged off the internet. I have to reset the wep key using my desk top PC and each times the default setting is NOT the password I use. after resetting the lap top recognises the web and I can gain access again. Howver this cycle keeps repeating itself!!! Do I have a hacker who keeps resetting my wep key for their own use?

We have an ASA5510 which keeps resetting itself for no apparent reason. It does this several times a day and I cannot see any pattern to the times etc. I don't believe it is load related as it also happens overnight when very little is going through the device. When it happens the device just drops off the network (all interfaces) and then when it comes back a few minutes later we can see from the system uptime that it has in fact rebooted itself.I initially thought it was faulty hardware, so I swapped the device for another 5510, but that does the same thing. I then added a third 5510 and configured it in with the second one as an Active/Passive failover pair. Both devices do the same as the first, the only differences now is that the passive device kicks in and takes over, so we have a little less service disruption each time.

I'm trying to get an MBR1000 Cradlepoint 4G router working, but every time I plug the 4G aircard in, the router constantly resets itself about every 10 seconds or so. If I take the aircard out, the router is fine (of course doesn't have internet connection), and I can plug the card into a PC and it works fine. I talked to Verizon, and they told me that the air card that we DID have wouldn't work with a router, so they exchanged it and gave us a newer one. The 4G card is the Pantech UML290. I've tried everything I can think of, including updating the firmware on the router (and the router's 4G firmware), I've reset the router to default settings in case a setting got messed up.The guy at Verizon told me that I should basically be able to plug it in and have it work.

i have a trendnet tpe-s44 switch and i need to reset it. it is installed in a network with a pos system, and i need to change the security from wep to wpa-2. i also cannot use the web interface to get to the login screen. from what i gather, it should be admin admin at 192.168.0.1, but the network it came from had a 192.168.5 scheme. i also cannot find a reset button, i even took it apart to look for jumpers. that sucks, i can configure a cisco from the command line almost in my sleep

I work for a company and I am currently trying to make some changes to the security on our NAS drive, (I will give specifics of the equipment we are using below). The NAS drive we have does have some security functionality on it however we don't have the username and password (it was set up before I arrived and now no one knows anything about it). I am able to restore the NAS to factory settings which apparently will not affect the content of the drive however it will in addition to resetting the password and username, reset the IP address. Now the concern I have is that once I have reset this, then will the computers which are connected to it be no longer able to access the drive which is essential for the business.
The NAS is connected to a switch which then feeds off via Ethernet to 8 separate computers (6 running XP, 2 running Windows 7), will this mean that when the IP address is reset the computers will lose access to the drive or will they be okay as they are still connected via Ethernet. If they will lose access what will I need to do to 'reconnect' them. [code]

I just got Charter cable internet and decided to purchase my own cable modem instead of paying 5 dollars a month to rent one. I got a D-Link DCM-201. I know it is a little old but it was brand new/unused so I figured it would work out well. Ever since we got it hooked up every few hours we lose internet connectivity. The power, cable, and status lights are solid green and the Ethernet light is blinking green. The only fix I have found for this is to power cycle the modem. The problem is this happens about once every 4 hours...having to reset the router every few hours is making having cable internet a much more painful experience than it should be.

This paticular AP must have gotten unplugged during the updating process after the initial conneciton to the controller was made as the LED currently blinks red-blue-red, indicating an error in the flash memory according to the manual.

I had to send my HPg61 laptop in to check out a heat issue a few months ago. When it came back, I got a headphone jack issue (now resolved) and a Wi-Fi problem - I used to have great wifi from my bedroom to my parent's study which is where the modem is, even when I did have the heat issue, but when I got it back, that all changed. From my bedroom, my laptop would say "no connection detected" and had a red x over the wifi icon in the taskbar, but would have good connection if I were in the living room with it. This didn't last long - one day, the icon turned into a computer with a red x over it.

Got a Belkin wireless modem router some 18 monthes ago, and after a bit of a struggle managed to set it up. It worked fine, aside from the odd depower repower. For some reason, it just stopped working yesterday. I initially checked all my cabling etc and everything seems fine. I next tried resetting my modem/router to factory settings. When I tried to install the Belkin software I fell at the first hurdle with a message saying "The setup assistant is not able to connect to the router". After googling my issue, I followed others advice and running the cmd setting and typing in "ipconfig" only to find that my media state was disconnected.

I purchased a new WAG160N router a few months ago and recently I have been having major problems with connectivity. The problem is that it resets itself at seemingly random times. I see it happening. The red power light starts flashing red and then the other lights slowly turn green as it re-establishes connection to the internet.
This is becoming extremley frustrating as I do online gaming with my XBOX 360.I use wired connections using ethernet cables. One to my laptop. And one to my XBOX 360.I have contacted my ISP who have done line checks and I have had an engineer look at my line and all is good. I have also replaced all cables to/from the router including phone cords and ethernet cords. EVERYTHING is new.I recall one incident in which my internet was down and I just couldnt get connection AT ALL. I rang my ISP and they got me to log into my modem settings. The settings were all altered for some reason and I have no idea why. When they told me to enter the details in the settings the internet worked immediatley.

My roommate and I recently got a WRT120N to replace an older Linksys router that was exhibiting the same problems with less frequency. Indeed, the entire reason we got the new router was to fix these problems. Alas, they have become worse.Anyways, what's happening is that the router constantly resets itself. It does this every 20 minutes to an hour and doesn't seem to be related to how much traffic it's dealing with. It's not just the internet going down, it's the entire network, and not even just the wireless part. My computer has a wired connection to the router and, and I get told "A network cable has been unplugged" every time it happens. Then, if I look down at the router, I see no flashing lights, just the steady glow of the power light. It always fixes itself after 10-15 seconds, but it's very annoying. Certainly, playing games online or having a conversation on Skype is made more difficult. As previously mentioned, we replaced our older router because it was exhibiting the same behavior, but the new one does it with greater frequency. At the very least, the router does reset itself instead of needing us to cycle the power. The setup was slightly different with the old router: I was using a wireless connection with a WMP54Gv4 which I've had to disable since it bluescreens the moment it so much as sniffs a signal from the WRT120N?

We have recently received some used computing gear for HPC. With that came a Cisco SFS 7024 infiniband switch, which should handle the compute traffic of the cluster. As the system has been used before, i would like to reset the switch, to configure it anew for our setup. Normally with switches there is a possibility to factory reset it, but I have looked everywhere on the switch and in the online manual with out any luck.I have gone through the part where an OOB IP is given to the switch. I do however not know if the former users has changed this, and what it might be.
