View 1 RepliesI just got Charter cable internet and decided to purchase my own cable modem instead of paying 5 dollars a month to rent one. I got a D-Link DCM-201. I know it is a little old but it was brand new/unused so I figured it would work out well. Ever since we got it hooked up every few hours we lose internet connectivity. The power, cable, and status lights are solid green and the Ethernet light is blinking green. The only fix I have found for this is to power cycle the modem. The problem is this happens about once every 4 hours...having to reset the router every few hours is making having cable internet a much more painful experience than it should be.

I have try to reset, it is not resetting. Network is working, but no internet because I have not yet configured it for the internet. When i use it's cd, it reaches to the point of detecting it and telling me that "The router is off or a cable is not connected" Though it is on and the cable is fine i have tested it in different routers it works well!

This is extremely annoying, especially when I'm playing online games or downloading something. Simply put, the three lights suddenly turn off, then they start turning on again one after the other. I don't want any of the automated answering machines with their usual 'help', like "download update", "contact your ISP","disable your firewall".
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have bought a DIR 615 router one week ago and although my main goal was to use it at better wireless speeds (using the N feature) it turned out that I can only use it as a normal router. The hardware version is H1 and the software ver is 8.0.
The problem is that whenever I turn on the wireless with default configuration, the router immediately starts resetting by itself over and over again. Sometimes it doesn't reconnect, but as soon as I try to connect to it using one of my laptops, it immediately starts restarting. After it starts the continuous resetting, it is very hard to reset its settings using the hardware reset button, because I don't even have time to press it for 10 seconds. If the wireless is turned off, everything works.
I just flashed this router with DD-WRT about a week ago inside the webui that was provided. It all went well but I wanted to go back to the original factory firmware so turned it off for 20 seconds, and held the reset button for 10 seconds to reach the emergency-room. I re-flashed it with the firmware I got from d-links website and all went well. So I tried to go to 192.168.0.1 that did not work so I tried the ip that I gave it before it was flashed and it still remained x.x.x.254. I also turned off dhcp server since my isp's modem provides that and other services. But when I looked into the logs it would keep starting up dhcp server every minute which would lead to all kinds of problems.
Edit: The ip/subnet are set to 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0. It seems to start this as soon as dhcp is disabled.

I've had a recent problem where I turn off my router computer etc every night and the next day the router has reset to original configuration. I lose SSID, password, region etc and have to do a quick setup or restore a back up config each time.
I've had the unit for about 1 1/2 months and all was ok until recently when I switch the wireless switch at the back of the unit so my kids couldn't access the router and internet. I switched it back on after a while and all was ok and later shut down for the night. The next day when I turned it all on again the SSID password etc had reset.
Anyhow I contacted TP-link and was told to disable the WPS for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. That seemed to fix the problem for a couple of days but it has now returned.Should I try the 30/30/30 reset??

My question is that cisco website says there are two type of cable connections for this type of config --which are --T1 CSU/DSU ConfigurationSet one CSU/DSU to clock source internal, and the other CSU/DSU to clock source line. Then I started to notice I was lagging--I checked my connection speed and it's back down to 130mpbs.I made sure to do WPA2 only, 20/40 range... I don't know what else to do to make it "stick" to the speed I want. It's obviously quite capable of it. If I reboot it it connects at that speed.... it just randomly reverts back to 130.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had the DIR-655 for a few months now, along with a Motorola Surfboard sb6121 DOCSIS 3.0.Modem works fine, the router was working perfectly fine until recently last week.
I have a desktop hardwired and a wireless network going on that I use just for my mobile phone and tablet at times. At first I was having disconnection problems with my wireless, then noticed a neighbor installed a similar router in the area according to my wifi analyzer, so I changed the channels and my wireless started working great. During this process I also did a firmware update and since then I've been receiving some really poor browsing problems, sometimes I'll visit websites like Facebook, or a news website, and it'll say something about the DNS not working, (at this point I'll ping the website and it still pings fine without any loss) so I'll visit the website about 10 minutes later and it works great. I've done extensive research on forums/Google and found it must link up to the new firmware update and something about a DNS relay? My version is: Hardware Version: B1 Firmware Version: 2.10NA
In other words, is there a way I can fix this issue from disconnecting without having to downgrade back to the old firmware? Or is this a common issue they'll continue to happen? If I do downgrade, HOW do I downgrade back to the stable version?

I have successfully connected to my ISP with the 3G USB dongle.But it seems like the PIN code is not saved. I have to enter it after a reboot of the router.
I'm having some trouble getting two Cisco 888's to work correctly back to back.. The two routers will ultimately be used in conjunction with a BT EPS8 circuit which is effectively four wires short distance between customer sites. We have configured lots of these using the older Cisco 878's.
Anyway, as i've been struggling to get line sync on site I've gone back to basics and connected the two 888's back to back. However, I've found that no matter what I do I can only get the routers to sync at 384kbps!? And that's with a one meter RJ11-RJ11 cable.. Very strange. When we've used the 878's we get much more bandwidth. I have tried statically assigning the line rate at both ends but it still only works at 384kbps.
I live in a Townhome complex so inSSIDer displays a lot of wireless activity. I have noticed that many of the routers channels are listed as 6 + 2, 4 + 1, etc., while show only a single channel. I have been able to "temporarily" replicate this by setting the Channel Width on my DIR-655, by setting channel width to auto, and when I am successful it displays a speed of 300, both in my task bar and in inSSIDer. However, that is usually short lived and the channel for my router reverts back to a single channel and the displayed speed drops to 130 or 144. My neighbor's Netgear is rock solid at displaying dual channels. Well, that and besting my signal strength. :-)
I have the router manually to channel 8 because none of the routers, judged by their displayed strength, use it.So, I guess my question is; how do I stop my DIR-655 from dropping back to using a single channel, which I interpret 20MHz, even though it is set on auto?
ISP Virgin Media who ship DLINKS without any assistance for custom options, I seem to be having no end of trouble trying to get my DLINK615 and Xbox to play fair.In order to allow me to play my Xbox without any technical problems, or problems with other players I had to open up a few ports, been there resolved that. But, I only want to open them on one IP I want to always be assigned to the Xbox360. This IP being 192.168.0.100
I added that into the DHCP Reservation list, only to find that the Xbox failed to reconnect after being turned off and back on, I believe this is a problem with the DLINK Router, unless I am very badly mistaken.
