D-Link 2640B Downloads Capped On Wireless PC

Jul 12, 2011

I am on a 4Mbps internet line.i have 3 PCs connected to the internet through a router. i noticed that direct downloads on the 2 PCs that are connected to the router wirelessly are capped at about 50-60kbps/sec per download. just to clarify, i can still achieve a full speed of 400kbps in total, but just that each download is capped at 50-60kbps.however, on the PC that is connected directly to the router via ethernet cable i am able to download well over 150kbps per download.so i don't think it's my ISP that is capping my downloads here, but i can't figure out why downloads would be capped on the wireless PCs. is it some settings on my router? i have everything pretty much set on default. the modem is a D-Link 2640B.

D-Link 2640B / Transfer Rate Slow On International Server Downloads?

Jul 20, 2011

i have a 4Mbps DSL internet connection with 3 PCs connected through a router. 2 are connected wirelessly and the other is wired via an ethernet cable. i noticed that when downloading a file from an international server, the transfer rate on the wireless PCs is 2-3 times slower than on the wired PC. the wireless PC would get about 150-200kb/s, whereas the wired PC can max out to 450kb/s on a single download. however when i download from a local or nearby server instead, the transfer rate on the wireless and wired PCs are the same and can both reach up to 450kb/s per download. i don't understand why the wireless connection is slower to international servers compared to the wired PC.my wireless signal is at 54Mbps with "excellent" strength. i also tested the ping results from both the wireless and wired PCs to international servers and they are pretty much the same.

- all PCs are running windows XP SP3
- the modem/router is a D-Link 2640B

D-Link DSL 2640B - Does It Load Balance Bandwidth

Aug 30, 2011

I have a D-Link DSL 2640B on the way which I plan on using to replace my 2Wire modem. The 2640B is a combination of a modem/wireless device. Does it dynamically load balances the internet connection? Sometimes while I'm playing online games on my PC and a few others are using the internet for browsing or Youtube, I lag A LOT. Latency shoots up from 10 to 200. QoS goes to ****. And I only need 0.50-1Mbps to keep a steady online play. This was the problem with my 2Wire. So does the 2640B load balance the bandwidth?our max speed is 3.5Mbps according to the ATT Rep.

D-link DSL-2640B Router Is Suddenly Blocking XBox Connection?

Feb 14, 2013

Until yesterday my various equipment was networking to each other and the internet without a problem. After i reset my d-link DSL-2640B router (would this initiate an update?) my x-box would not connect to the internet, There is no problem connecting to the router and the home network. Everything is talking to each other and everything else is connected to the internet including the TV. The router must just be blocking the x-box and only from yesterday. I checked ports that are talked about and i think i set up port triggering, but then noticed the firewall is disabled anyway.

Websites Don't Load And Capped At 15 KB/s

Oct 5, 2012

Pages seem to just randomly choose when to load and when to not load I have to F5 3 or 4 times before the page chooses to finally load. I'm also capped at around 12 ~ 17 kB/s which is ridiculous. My internet connection is bad usually anyway (around 200kB/s) and I can live with that but 15kB/s? No way.

D-Link DIR-655 :: PS3 Downloads Are Really Slow

Jul 30, 2011

I ran a speed test with my new DIR-655 connected to my PS3 and my download is 768kbps and my upload is 1.5mbps.  However, my internet connection is 50mbps and 2mbps upload on my computer connected via LAN.  While I understand SOME decrease, that's slower than the previous Wireless G router that I had.

I've reset the router twice and it's currently set to the factory defaults.  I've even tried setting a static ip address for the PS3 and put it into DMZ mode.  However, I'm still getting the slow speeds.

Also, my iPhone 4 is getting about 14mbps download and 2mbps upload.  Is that expected?

I have been paying Time Warner Cable for 50mbps download, but have been getting just under 10mbps for quite some time (ethernet,NOT wireless, we have no wireless-capable devices) After hours on the phone with Tier 3 tech support, two visits from technicians, a replaced modem and countless hours googling, I am at my wits end. When I go into the Task Manager and look at Networking, it shows the Link Speed at 10 Mbps.I have gone into my network adapter settings and set the Speed/Duplex to 100mbps Full, as the TWC rep said. Also switched cables, powercycled, rebooted the PC, etc.Google searches suggest going into the router settings and raising the cap through there, but I can't find the proper setting for my device (Motorola SURFboard SBG6580) if they even exist at all. it's using slightly outdated firmware ( SBG6580-3.3.1.0-GA-09-058-NOSH ) and that that could be causing the problem.

D-link Dir-655 :: Certain Downloads Extremely Slow On Wifi

May 14, 2013

On certain downloads, Wifi speed seems to be throttled to about 100kB/s.  I see this mostly on two BlackBerry Z10s, but also just saw it on my Wifi-connected PC when trying to download the latest DIR-655 firmware. The Z10s are screaming fast on Wifi at my work.  They also do fine on YouTube and any other high bandwidth applications (I just tried Speedtest and got 11Mb/s).  I think I can say that the slow speed is only when I'm downloading apps or updates on the phones.

I just updated my DIR-655 to the latest FW and have spent an hour flicking settings trying to find something that makes a difference.  No luck.  As it stands now, I'm downloading the latest OS upgrade to BB10 (345MB) at 100kB/s.

I reset my modem and Internet worked fine without any other changes. I am planning on buying a modem (instead of leasing) should I buy a gateway? I didn't think this router was out dated yet.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Slows Down Speed And Makes Many Downloads Fail

Jul 25, 2011

I can't get utube videos when I'm going through the router.  I can get them if I'm on the modem only.  The same applies to long PDFs, software updates, long virus definition updates, videos in general and graphics heavy websites.  It just slows down eventually to a standstill and the download fails.  As stated when the router is not connected the above items pop up or download reasonably quickly through the modem.  We have moderate speed DSL.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT350N Chokes And Hangs On Large And Fast Downloads

Apr 7, 2012

I recently upgraded my internet speed service from my ISP (Brighthouse).  They installed a gateway to replace their old modem, but I have had it bridged so it should act as a modem.  Speedtest.net shows downloads on the order of 40-50 Mbps and uploads around 5 Mbps.  If I try doing something interactively that pushes the speed and size of files (like flying over Google earth using my mouse to guide the direction and speed) my connection seems to hang.  I have to reset the router (unpower and repower it) to get my internet connection to work.  This has also happened when I quickly downloaded a series of large images - I click to get the next page fairly soon after the current page has finished downloaded.  My router is a WRT350N.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Unable To Get The Same Downloads Speeds In EA2700 When Compared To Wired

Nov 22, 2012

I just got a new EA2700 and I notice that there is no way to get the same downloads speeds in wireless when compared to wired.Wired to my SHAW Cable modem I get 50 Mbps when I go wireless I get simply haalf of that. I spent almost 2 hours with the Linksys support on the phone and they said my router was bad.I do not buy that but it seems that something is not clear, or Linksys do a bogus advertisement saying that we can get 10x more speeds with this generation of routers or wireless technologies are just like that, cut your wired downloads speeds in half. Getting half download speeds in wireless connections versus full when wired?

For example I downloaded the windows 8 consumer preview multiple times and each time was corrupt. Now I know it isn't anything to do with my computer as I have this problem on all devices connected to my internet including my ps3, every game I download is corrupt and I cannot install it. Looking For Something To Boost Streams And Downloads

Apr 28, 2011

I recently switched providers and now i'm down to a 1.5 MBPS download speed (advertised at 3 MBPS but our area is only serviced for half that) so I'm trying to find something that will smooth out the capabilities of my PC's with streaming videos and such for my nephew on sites like disney.com and other sites. I can post specs later if you guys need em but one PC which I know its issue, it is around 10 years old so I'm not expecting great performance. The knew one though is only a year old with 1GB DDR2 Ram and windows XP Home. The older one has 512MB Ram....I think its SD with windows XP pro. Again I can post full stats later if needed but not really trying to trouble shoot. More looking to boost. We run 2 computers and a Wii off our wireless modem. I'm curious if somehow the computers could be configured to operate on seperate...ports I guess to minimize the lag on the modem. We are noticing that if one computer is downloading something it cause the second computer to lag or makes streaming anything all but impossible.

Intermittent Speed Drops On Downloads?

Jun 24, 2011

I have two computers, both of them running Windows 7. One of them has been experiencing an odd problem for about six months now, and now that school is out I have time to mess with it. When I try to do certain things, the download speed periodically drops to zero. Specifically, I've noticed it when using Firefox and Steam, but also for IE and a few other browsers I installed for the sake of testing. I know I'm not *losing* connectivity, because everything that isn't specifically downloading a file works fine. Skype calls work fine, Utorrent streams at a steady rate, but for some reason Steam and Firefox have speed graphs that look like the heart rate monitor of someone with a very weak pulse. It starts off strong, a nice solid 1 MB per second, and then after 10-30 seconds it'll slowly decline to 0, and sit there for anywhere from 10 seconds to half an hour before picking up to full speed again. I've tried reinstalling drivers, I've tried buying a new network card, I've tried running antivirus scans, and I've tried uninstalling my antiviruses. The only thing that works for sure is putting it into safe mode. In safe mode, the downloads proceed smoothly. I tried making a list of everything that ran in safe mode, and then rebooted into normal mode and closed each nonessential process and service, but that didn't work either.

I have tried downloading files in Ubuntu 12.10, Windows 7 using wireless, and WinXP, and they all can download files perfectly. Only Windows 8 seems to have this problem. Downloads Starting And Stopping Constantly?

Aug 6, 2012

First, I'm running Windows7 64 bit. So whenever I download a decently sized file; my download will start and get good speed for a few minutes, then it will drop off and stop and my connection to the internet will be lost for a short time while the connection resets. This happens if I'm using a program like Steam to download a game, torrenting something, sometimes on my Xbox 360 when it needs to update itself or a game, occasionally on a large app or album off of iTunes or patching an online game. However, I have no issue watching YouTube videos or playing an online game while also having TeamSpeak running in the backround to chat. I don't lose connection when browsing the internet at all and recently I was able to stream a live event without issue but I only tried that once (I don't have Netflix or anything similar). It usally isn't a big issue because my download will pick up where it left off most of the time but its a pain in the butt to have to add on an extra hour to a download sometimes for this.
