View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to connect multiple computers, laptops and printers to the same LAN. I currently have the switch daisy chained to the modem. I'm having issues with conflicting IP addresses and wireless access. I think I have to create static IP addresses but don't know which nor how.The hardware I'm seeking to have on one LAN:
- Netgear CGD24G Cable Modem from Time Warner
- Netgear GS116E un-managed switch
- iMac OSX 10.8.x
- Dell PC desktop, Windows 7
- Sony Vaio PC desktop, Windows XP
- Dell PC desktop, Windows XP
- Sony Vaio laptop, Windows 7 Pro
- MacAir OSX 10.8.x
- MacBook Pro OSX (not sure which OS version)
- HP JetDirect 300x Print Serve (hooked up to HP LaserJet 2300)
- Epson Artisan 835
- Netgear Universal Adapter for Home Entertainment (SAVB5004)
- Netgear Powerline 500 Nano
- Apple iPhones (4 of these)
- Apple iPad
Several of these can work wirelessly, though I prefer wired whenever possible.I have been getting IP address conflict notices as well as the wireless signal not being received on some of the wireless capable devices, which seems to be random but it could be that I just don't know enough to recognize a pattern. I believe the devices are all set to automatic assignment of IP addresses. What is the correct way to daisy chain the cable modem and switch? What is the correct protocol for assignment of IP addresses in order to avoid IP conflict? Why does my wireless drop on some of the wireless-capable devices (such as the iMac, MacAir or Sony laptop)?
I have a Netgear CGD24G Wireless Gateway and a Gateway MA8 laptop with after-market Windows 7 (Vista got a virus, went ahead and upgraded.)Now, when I download 100 MB files on my Xbox 360 (Which is wired to the modem) it will be downloaded in a couple minutes, or less. The other computers in my house (There are plenty, and even more that come and go.) get a blazing internet connection, and most of them are wireless. Now this computer, which had an extremely quick connection as well all of a sudden dropped off, while the rest of the computers remain fast.I've gone to Speedtest.net before and after this occurred and my speed before was around 12 mb/s, and one time around 4 AM was even upward of 25 mb/s, all of these tests were performed multiple times on different server locations. I JUST did the speedtest, and it came back with .4 mb/s, and the UL speed was 2.0. I honestly can't remember what I averaged with it prior to the problem, but it was definitely higher as well
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhere can I download firmware? I've been trying to get it through the official site and downloads page, but everytime I click download, then click 'open' there's absolutely nothing in the zip folder (0 bytes).Specifically, I'm looking for the D1 4.11 firmware. It's the one I've been using for about 2 years until needing to reset my router today. And as I forgot how to Hard Reset, I accidently reset everything deleting the firmware too, and I really need the D1 4.11 firmware back as it gave me no issues for 2 years!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a number of Cisco 1801 routers connected to BT UK’s ADSL2+ Annex-A Wholesale Broadband Connect [WBC] services. The routers are experiencing connectivity issues. There is a cisco product bulletin that defines v4.0.0.18 as the version of ADSL Firmware required on the Cisco 1801 when connecting to this BT service.I would like to upgrade the ADSL Firmware for these routers but I cannot find v4.0.0.18 for the Cisco 1801 on CCO. All the 4.0.0.18 downloads appear to be for various flavours of 800. The Cisco product bulletin shows the 1801 as having the same chipset as the 857,867,877 and 887. Can I use the Firmware from one these 800 models? The MD5 Hash for the code suggests all of the these 800 model use the same code?

For example I downloaded the windows 8 consumer preview multiple times and each time was corrupt. Now I know it isn't anything to do with my computer as I have this problem on all devices connected to my internet including my ps3, every game I download is corrupt and I cannot install it. I've tried all the obvious things like turning the router on and off and plugging the device directly into the router via ethernet

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently switched providers and now i'm down to a 1.5 MBPS download speed (advertised at 3 MBPS but our area is only serviced for half that) so I'm trying to find something that will smooth out the capabilities of my PC's with streaming videos and such for my nephew on sites like disney.com and other sites. I can post specs later if you guys need em but one PC which I know its issue, it is around 10 years old so I'm not expecting great performance. The knew one though is only a year old with 1GB DDR2 Ram and windows XP Home. The older one has 512MB Ram....I think its SD with windows XP pro. Again I can post full stats later if needed but not really trying to trouble shoot. More looking to boost. We run 2 computers and a Wii off our wireless modem. I'm curious if somehow the computers could be configured to operate on seperate...ports I guess to minimize the lag on the modem. We are noticing that if one computer is downloading something it cause the second computer to lag or makes streaming anything all but impossible.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI ran a speed test with my new DIR-655 connected to my PS3 and my download is 768kbps and my upload is 1.5mbps. However, my internet connection is 50mbps and 2mbps upload on my computer connected via LAN. While I understand SOME decrease, that's slower than the previous Wireless G router that I had.
I've reset the router twice and it's currently set to the factory defaults. I've even tried setting a static ip address for the PS3 and put it into DMZ mode. However, I'm still getting the slow speeds.
Also, my iPhone 4 is getting about 14mbps download and 2mbps upload. Is that expected?
It is on my home network. My administrator says I hog the internet. I cannot even update programs
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two computers, both of them running Windows 7. One of them has been experiencing an odd problem for about six months now, and now that school is out I have time to mess with it. When I try to do certain things, the download speed periodically drops to zero. Specifically, I've noticed it when using Firefox and Steam, but also for IE and a few other browsers I installed for the sake of testing. I know I'm not *losing* connectivity, because everything that isn't specifically downloading a file works fine. Skype calls work fine, Utorrent streams at a steady rate, but for some reason Steam and Firefox have speed graphs that look like the heart rate monitor of someone with a very weak pulse. It starts off strong, a nice solid 1 MB per second, and then after 10-30 seconds it'll slowly decline to 0, and sit there for anywhere from 10 seconds to half an hour before picking up to full speed again. I've tried reinstalling drivers, I've tried buying a new network card, I've tried running antivirus scans, and I've tried uninstalling my antiviruses. The only thing that works for sure is putting it into safe mode. In safe mode, the downloads proceed smoothly. I tried making a list of everything that ran in safe mode, and then rebooted into normal mode and closed each nonessential process and service, but that didn't work either.

It's just when downloading files from websites will this happen.I use a wired connection. I have tried Firefox, Chrome, and IE10, and this problem happens in all of them. I use a WRT54GS router. I have tried downloading files in Ubuntu 12.10, Windows 7 using wireless, and WinXP, and they all can download files perfectly. Only Windows 8 seems to have this problem. Another thing is that my Windows 8 is a fresh install.I have also tried disabling Windows Firewall to no avail.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst, I'm running Windows7 64 bit. So whenever I download a decently sized file; my download will start and get good speed for a few minutes, then it will drop off and stop and my connection to the internet will be lost for a short time while the connection resets. This happens if I'm using a program like Steam to download a game, torrenting something, sometimes on my Xbox 360 when it needs to update itself or a game, occasionally on a large app or album off of iTunes or patching an online game. However, I have no issue watching YouTube videos or playing an online game while also having TeamSpeak running in the backround to chat. I don't lose connection when browsing the internet at all and recently I was able to stream a live event without issue but I only tried that once (I don't have Netflix or anything similar). It usally isn't a big issue because my download will pick up where it left off most of the time but its a pain in the butt to have to add on an extra hour to a download sometimes for this.
