D-Link DIR-655 :: Intermittent Wi-Fi Signal Dropped Randomly 1.35NA
Jan 13, 2011
For those of you foolish enough to upgrade to your firmware to 1.35NA, only to find that all your wireless clients are intermittently dropped randomly at the same time, read on.At the time of this simultaneous drop, the logs will tell you that the clients were "disconnected due to deauthorisation" or some such (precise wording eludes me, has not occurred for a while, which is a good thing!). The clients are then quickly "authorised", but the movie you were streaming to your living room has already been interrupted and all your family members have gone for an unexpected toilet / snack break. Needless to say, the movie is ruined. Playing/hosting online games is an exercise in slowly pulling out all your remaining hair folicles. A random 20s delay when surfing the web is also fun. The list goes on.
A quick glance at the forum suggests this is a common problem, with the only reproducible solution to downgrade your firmware, perhaps all the way to 1.21.Get this though, you cannot downgrade 1.35NA by any means known to us internet-using, neanderthal-descendant primates (yes, your ancestor interbred with them). All workarounds to downgrade the firmware currently do not work for the new firmware. Why this is not suggested more often on these forums, I cannot fathom. There are a few threads that end like this though: "Oh, switched to WPS and the problem went away.Of course, if your wireless clients do not support WPS, then, um...facepalm yourself again. Only one of them has to though, the rest non-WPS clients you can copy paste the extremely long password to.Not so important settings: (changing these will do nothing to alleviate the drops)
Now that I have provided you with the meaning to life, the universe, and everything (42, I mean WPS), enjoy "normal" wireless behaviour again. OMG, I can actually surf the internet, torrent, play games, stream movies again. Some far more knowledgeable person might speculate as to the reason why this is so...actually, I will start the useless speculation. There must have been a security issue, that was remedied with the more recent 1.3xx firmwares. At the same time, constant authorisation checks were added. The deauthorisation/ authorisation cycle is snappy and unnoticeable with WPS, yet horrible without WPS.

I'm watching a video streamed from my laptop and the signal is constantly being dropped. I suspect the D-Link DES-105. I have another Ethernet switch on the system as well but it is a Gigabit unmanaged switch from D-Link and has worked well with video streams. I've removed the DES 105 from the circuit and videos play fine. Should I dump to DES-105 for another Gigabit switch? SOme say I have a bad cable somewhere but I have tested all and have not found a problem.

The error that we are getting is "cannot connect with primary dns server" however in our attempts to restore the connection we have: [code] is there some issues in the area that we are not aware of?

I have a dir-655 xtreme N gigabit router with 2.03NA version firmware. The wireless signal will suddenly and randomly disappear from my laptop. I checked the properties of the network connected it remains on the same channel when it reconnects so I figure it's not a channel issue.I have reviewed this forum for hours and have made many changes to my settings, but nothing seems to keep the wireless signal from stopping.
Computer: dell inspiron 6400
OS: windows XP pro (sp3)

Modem: stand alone (Sagemcom 4300)
Router: dlink / xtremeN gigabit router / dir655

Bought an E4200 to replace my Netwgear router and am experiencing the following problem. One of my wireless boxes serves as mu mail server. I've been running this configuration for years so the only thing that has changed is the router. The neworkd is up and all wireless clients can connect, but after some time, access to the mail server just 'freezes'. I say freezes as the nework icon (i'm using ubuntu' still show a connection. In addtion, there are not error in any of the logs. I just seems that the mail server and the router just stopped communication.

I have just updated myDIR-655 A4 to firmware 1.35NA by the procedure: save config > upload firmware > load config. However after upgrading, my admin page now logout after every ~10 sec of inactivity.I have tried the method where to view the admin page without a style, to be able to set the timeout period, from 5 mins to 3, 8 and 10 mins, but no matter what I set, it still logs me out after ~10 sec.

I have recently bought a new wireless card and it is giving me grief. Until now I had been using a laptop to pick up the wireless signal from my router, and pass it along to my PC, and have been receiving excellent speeds (30 Megabit) despite being 2 floors above the router.
I bought myself a Sitecom N300 card to go in the PCI slot of my computer, and my connection is generally extremely slow, and often drops completely for minutes at a time. The strange thing, however, is that it still shows medium to strong signal strength, even when the connection drops completely!
This is completely baffling me! I can't work out what could be causing interference, or why the signal strength doesn't go down when the signal does, or why the internal laptop wi-fi receiver seems so much better than this new card with 2 massive aerials. Unfortunately my ability to move either my PC or router is somewhat limited
I'm running Windows 7, fully up-to-date, and the router is a BT Home Hub 3

So, after everyone was raving about the 1.35NA version, I downloaded it. As I always do, I disabled my wireless NIC and connected an RJ-45. I saved my config to a .gws file. I uploaded the new firmware. When I went to reload my settings file, it said it was not a valid file. I tried multiple times. I even tried earlier versions of saved config files. Same thing.
So, I figured I'd revert to the 1.34NA firmware it was previously on. It wouldn't take it. So, I used the router config "system" page and chose "restore factory defaults". It didn't work. It still had the 1.35NA. So, I used the router's reset button. I held it in for 10 seconds, saw the system lights all blink in unison. I checked the config page and it was still on 1.35NA.

i just thought i would try 1.35na firmware and i decided i wanted to go back to 1.33na, well you cant BE FOREWARNED.
i don't know what is the big deal about stopping you from downgrading your firmware that they lock you out of it. it never used to be a problem, pretty sure i could downgrade from 1.34na to other 1.3 firmware.
the reason for allowing people to downgrade is incase the new firmware does not work properlly. not allowing your customers to do this is just asking for trouble not to mention alienating your customers.
at work we downgrade firmware to the firmware that passed our quality tests, it also makes it easier to support them when they are all the same.
1.35 works well so i dont have to buy another router. if it doesn't you can be sure it wont be another dlink thats for sure.

I tried updating my firmware of my DIR-655 from 1.34NA to 1.35NA (Hardware Version: A1/A2).
However, I found something strange while updating the firmware, that made me stop, in order to ask the question.
Previously, when I did an update, I would browse for the location, and put it in, and it would allow me to update from that location.
Now, it will allow it, but when I select to update from the desktop (C:usersderickdesktop),
it comes up with another location (C:fakepath) for the .bin file.

I purchased a DIR-655 (A4) a few weeks ago, and was encountering a problem. I immediately upgraded to 1.35NA after I bought it. First, the actual problem: With WMM enabled, my internet speeds are very inconsistent. By that, I mean it will fluctuate between full ISP speed and less than half the speed. A few seconds at full, a few seconds at half or less, and so on. Well, when I disable WMM, with everything else the same, the internet speeds suddenly become consistently fast at full speed, but PC-to-PC (LAN-to-LAN) wireless transfers slow down considerably. So no matter what I do I get a negative result.
Thus, I figured I would try downgrading the firmware to 1.32NA, 1.33NA, or 1.34NA, as I read that it is not possible to downgrade directly to 1.2x. I thought I would simply troubleshoot the problem myself. Unfortunately, no matter which firmware I try, except 1.35NA, it gives me a paragraph explanation; something like "This file was either not intended for this router, or it is corrupt. Your router will not be programmed." It did allow a reflash of 1.35NA, though. I downloaded multiple firmwares directly from the D-Link ftp multiple times, using a different router, so the files should not be corrupt.
Is it simply not possible to downgrade once you flash 1.35NA? For the record, I also tried a few of the workarounds I found on the internet: (1) do a hard reset by holding in the reset button and cycling power for 30 secs. (2) I tried some firmware directly from the German FTP which was supposed to allow a downgrade, but still got the same error as above. (3) I also tried some Russian firmware and it didn't work either. I was using a hardwired connection to the router during all attempts to flash.

I have a DIR-655 rev A4 with firmware 1.35NA.I read [URL] 5 which stated that the SECURESPOT feature was removed as of firmware 1.35NA but since upgrading the router to 1.35NA I find the following two log entries mentioning securespot being initiated:
[INFO] Sat Jan 22 21:01:21 2011 Initiating securespot services.
[INFO] Sat Jan 22 21:01:21 2011 Allocating securespot services.
I will mention, before upgrading to 1.35NA I was running the stock 1.21 firmware that shipped with this router. Prior to updating to 1.35NA I had taken a backup of the router settings and after the firmware update was applied I restored this settings backup. Could that be the reason this log entry is showing up? It makes me think securespot is not really removed as is claimed in the release notes for this firmware. Can anyone else with a DIR-655 A4 w/firmware 1.35NA confirm the above two log entries mentioning securespot appear in the log (assuming ALL log settings are turned on) when your router is rebooted?

I've been using the web filter with no problem with my A3/1.33NA router until I upgraded to 1.35 last week. After the upgrade, i did a hard reset and re-entered the websites manually from scratch to the DENY list. I didn't even reuse the saved config file. And now the router no longer blocks any of the websites in the webfilter page even when i selected the ALLOW option.

I recently upgraded my DIR-655, H/W Version A3 from 1.21 w/o SecureSpot to 1.35NA. My understanding this that this version isn't supposed to have any SecureSpot support. However, whenever the router is rebooted, the logs contain an entry that reads:
Bsecure remote access enabled on port 8098.

Few days ago, I updated the firmware of my router to 1.35NA and everything seemed to be working fine at first. After a while though, I noticed my Nexus One phone wasn't getting internet through WiFi anymore. It is connected to WiFi still, and it can ping the other devices on the network but it won't connect to the web. I have a Xoom tablet connected to WiFi as well and it is getting access to the web, though it seems to drop web access from time to time too, even before the firmware update. My phone always had a connection to the web through WiFi before the update. The two PCs that have a wired connection work fine. In the router logs, I also noticed that "UPnP renew entry 255.255.255.255 <-> ... UDP timeout:0 'Teredo'" being spammed over and over since the update, which I read has something to do with IPv6?

I've had this router for about 3 weeks. It's only 20 feet from the computer, but my computer on 2 or 3 separate days had trouble staying connected. The signal dropped to 5 Mbps and had a little yellow symbol that said no internet access and when I looked at the properties it said, "limited or no connectivity." I got impatient and purchased a 75 ft Ethernet cable online with plans to possibly return the router as I don't really need wireless anyways and since I spent $100 on this router I expect it to work at 20 ft distance.
For the last few days it has remained at 54 Mbps or more sometimes all the way up to 108 mbps. But now since it got pretty low a few times I don't trust it enough so I might return it anyways.IPv6 connectivity says no network access. This might be because when it asked for administrator password to recognize it as a trusted home network I closed it instead of putting in the password.

It s not an SSID from any of my neighbors and from checking several forums it appears this is known problem.

My wife, daughter, mother and I recently moved into a place together. Since moving in together, our internet connection has been less than reliable. We use a motorola modem and a DLink DIR615 router. I have a desktop with a wireless card, and my mother has an all in one with a wireless card, so we both connect wirelessly to the internet. We also use iPhones and a PS3 for internet purposes. The DLink is my router from my family's old place before moving with my mother. The motorola modem is my mother's from her place. Prior to sharing a household, I never had a problem with the router dropping signal. She, however, did have a problem with it. She was using the motorola and a netgear router. So, with that out of the way, here's what happens. The internet works fine and the network shows as available, but then suddenly the internet just goes out in all areas of the house. The network no longer shows as available. It's fixed by unplugging the router for about 10 seconds and then plugging it back in. I've tried talking to DLink about it, thinking it was a problem with the router. They even sent me a replacement router because we couldn't figure out the problem, but even with the new one it's still happening. I can also add that while we were waiting for the replacement, we connected my mother's Netgear and it continued happening. When the new DLink came, I confirmed that the router has the latest firmware as well, just in case. I can add that since sharing a network, we've been getting an IP Address conflict message on both computers. We both have Windows 7. Can anybody shed some light on this? I have some knowledge of this kind of stuff but what's happening is way beyond my scope.

I've been running into an issue for the past week or so where my wireless adapter intermittently can't contact my router. When it occurs the network connection reads as having limited connectivity. I'm unable to send requests to load webpages, and videos and the like stop loading. Sometimes the network disconnects entirely. After this occurs, I can't connect again for a few minutes. My connection consistently reads as having 2-3 bars available. The issue tends to occur frequently, often every 15 minutes or so. Strangely enough, I have been able to play bf3 online for over 40 minutes without connection problems (I quit before any occurred - not sure if any would have). So far I've tried the windows troubleshooter, updating the driver to my wireless networking adapter, manually assigning my network address (tried 192.168.1.4, 192.168.1.5, etc), setting my 802.11b preamble to "Long only" and performing a system restore. I have rebooted my machine as well.
My technical specs are as follows:I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate N 64 bit edition with service pack 1. System has 8gb Ram, an i5-3570k processor and HD7850 graphics card. Motherboard is the Asrock Z77 extreme 4. My wireless network adapter is the TP-link TL-WN722N. The adapter was working fine for some time before this issue appeared. My router is an old U.S. Robotics Wireless MaxG Router. It seems to work fine with other computers in the household, although it does require fairly frequent power-cycling. Running ipconfig on the command prompt while the internet is working returns:
Quote:
Windows IP Configuration
Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection 2:

Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::293a:e9bb:ba5a:7536%14

where my internet dropped alot while playing ps3.i switched from my horrible d-link router to a DIR-655 Since i bought it, i've never dropped but my connection speed is an issue when playing my ps3.I use a wired connection through my router.some periods during the day it's 2 mbps download.. that's really slow considering my computer has 20 mbps download through wired connection.some periods during the day it runs fine @ 4 mbps - 5 mbps download (this is fine for gameplay but it lags a bit)if i directly connect my modem to my ps3 - it goes 20 mbps download (amazing fast speed)I called d-link technical support and did everything from port forwarding to turning on DMZ and putting my ps3 IP in there. I have a 2 part question: is there anything i can do to boost my ps3 connection download speed as high as it would be if it was connected straight to my modem while using a wired connection to my router? if that's not possible, is there anyway i can keep a stable download speed @ 5mbps?

Despite all the drama regarding the DIR-615, I've had the B2 revision since around late 2008 or early 2009 (can't remember exactly, most likely late 2008) and it had been working flawlessly. And I do mean that. I never once had a problem with this router and highly recommended it. Back then I was on a 24/1 connection, and had been up until recently.
Now I'm on a 100/10 line, and things haven't been looking too great. The internet is stable for the most part, and I am getting full speed, but the router has been starting to drop its connection a lot. I've had to release -> renew (or simply restart the router) quite often now and it seems to be happening at complete random.
weaking with settings, updating firmware, etc but no luck. All connections in question are of course wired, not wireless.

My DIR-655 drops WiFi connections every few days. All wired connections are fine. Rebooting the router fixes the problem at that time. Cable modem works perfectly fine. [code]
I'm sure I'm missing some devices, but that should give you the general mix of wired/wireless devices that I use. I'm single with visits from my son every other weekend, so network traffic is not that high at my house. I've had this router for a couple years now and didn't use to have this problem. I've been updating the firmware, and I suspect this problem happened after on one those updates. I just don't know which one. Also, I didn't use to have any neighbors with Wireless Routers (that I could detect), but recently there have been 2 who have gotten them. I was hoping this was a problem that D-Link was aware of, but that does not seem to be the case. I would hate to have to go out and buy a new router (not D-Link).

one last try before boxing up my new DIR-655 and taking it back to Microcenter. I've opened a case via email and got the standard response, below.I have a Dlink DP-300U print server that works fine with my 'old' Belkin router, a F5D-7230-4 wireless unit. Nothing wrong with the Belkin, I'm just getting some service drops from my lousy AT&T ifitl 1.5mbps ISP and thought a new router might work. I actually read the manual (!!) before installing the DIR-655 and even followed it. The print server just isn't visible on the network. Everything else is, though. The 'suggestions' from Dlink tech support below are very useful. If I could 'see' the print server to verify its IP address, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I've rebooted everything, several times and even reinstalled my old Belkin router (which always sees the print server.) And Dlink, no...I'm not interested in paying you $32.95 for up to a half hour to maybe fix a problem caused by your new device. And dropping my call after almost 15 minutes on hold is not cool, either. With reference to the issue you are facing, we suggest you to kindly ensure that the IP address assigned to DP-300U print server is in the same network range as that of your DIR-655.
NOTE: The default IP address of DIR-655 is 192.168.0.1 Once it is done, try to ping the IP address of DP-300U using any of the wired / wireless client connected to DIR-655.note the DP-300U is not currently supported in North America. D-Link offers a premium fee based support line that will be able to support any issues you have with this product.

I am having wireless connection/internet issues that are irritating me to the core!!! I have called tech support 4 times now, and I still can't get everything to play nice...I have the 655 set up as a wireless router to a Windows 7 laptop, one iPad, two iTouches, and one N3DS. I can't find a setting that will work with all devices. Here are the senarios...
1) Settings: Wireless enabled, 802.11n only, Auto Scan off-channel set to 1, Best Transmission rate, Channel Width Auto 20/40, Visible, Auto WPA Mode with AES Cipher and a pre-share key. This yields fantastic results with my laptop, it can stream video for entire episodes, and I have no problems with loading webpages in either IE or Firefox. However, it does not support the kids iTouches or N3DS.
2) Changed the above to mixed 802.11n/g AND ALSO tried 802.11 only: iTouches work and can connect to the internet, but laptop doesn't like it. I get "Problem loading webpage" every other time I access and website, and streaming stop every 5-6 minutes. Bars indicate wireless signal is strong, but intermittently get that yellow triangle.
