I would upgrade the firmware before deciding to replace router with a new one. I noticed there have been several updates to the firmware since I originally installed the router with the current available firmware version of 1.35NA.
View 12 RepliesI have what I believe is an original (V1) version of the BEFSR41 gateway/router. The label underneath the device only shows the model number with no version information. Current firmware version on the device is 1.46.02, dated Aug 03 2004.
Can I confirm (1) that I indeed this router is at hardware version 1? If that is the case it appears from your web site that version 1.46.02 is in fact the current and only firmware version for the device and that there are no firmware version upgrades available.
The DHCP software current does not have IP address reservation, which I am interested in adding if possible via firmware upgrade. If not then I have to consider whether I want this feature bad enough to replace the router.
i just thought i would try 1.35na firmware and i decided i wanted to go back to 1.33na, well you cant BE FOREWARNED.
i don't know what is the big deal about stopping you from downgrading your firmware that they lock you out of it. it never used to be a problem, pretty sure i could downgrade from 1.34na to other 1.3 firmware.
the reason for allowing people to downgrade is incase the new firmware does not work properlly. not allowing your customers to do this is just asking for trouble not to mention alienating your customers.
at work we downgrade firmware to the firmware that passed our quality tests, it also makes it easier to support them when they are all the same.
1.35 works well so i dont have to buy another router. if it doesn't you can be sure it wont be another dlink thats for sure.
I tried updating my firmware of my DIR-655 from 1.34NA to 1.35NA (Hardware Version: A1/A2).
However, I found something strange while updating the firmware, that made me stop, in order to ask the question.
Previously, when I did an update, I would browse for the location, and put it in, and it would allow me to update from that location.
Now, it will allow it, but when I select to update from the desktop (C:usersderickdesktop),
it comes up with another location (C:fakepath) for the .bin file.
I purchased a DIR-655 (A4) a few weeks ago, and was encountering a problem. I immediately upgraded to 1.35NA after I bought it. First, the actual problem: With WMM enabled, my internet speeds are very inconsistent. By that, I mean it will fluctuate between full ISP speed and less than half the speed. A few seconds at full, a few seconds at half or less, and so on. Well, when I disable WMM, with everything else the same, the internet speeds suddenly become consistently fast at full speed, but PC-to-PC (LAN-to-LAN) wireless transfers slow down considerably. So no matter what I do I get a negative result.
Thus, I figured I would try downgrading the firmware to 1.32NA, 1.33NA, or 1.34NA, as I read that it is not possible to downgrade directly to 1.2x. I thought I would simply troubleshoot the problem myself. Unfortunately, no matter which firmware I try, except 1.35NA, it gives me a paragraph explanation; something like "This file was either not intended for this router, or it is corrupt. Your router will not be programmed." It did allow a reflash of 1.35NA, though. I downloaded multiple firmwares directly from the D-Link ftp multiple times, using a different router, so the files should not be corrupt.
Is it simply not possible to downgrade once you flash 1.35NA? For the record, I also tried a few of the workarounds I found on the internet: (1) do a hard reset by holding in the reset button and cycling power for 30 secs. (2) I tried some firmware directly from the German FTP which was supposed to allow a downgrade, but still got the same error as above. (3) I also tried some Russian firmware and it didn't work either. I was using a hardwired connection to the router during all attempts to flash.
I have a DIR-655 rev A4 with firmware 1.35NA.I read [URL] 5 which stated that the SECURESPOT feature was removed as of firmware 1.35NA but since upgrading the router to 1.35NA I find the following two log entries mentioning securespot being initiated:

I will mention, before upgrading to 1.35NA I was running the stock 1.21 firmware that shipped with this router. Prior to updating to 1.35NA I had taken a backup of the router settings and after the firmware update was applied I restored this settings backup. Could that be the reason this log entry is showing up? It makes me think securespot is not really removed as is claimed in the release notes for this firmware.Can anyone else with a DIR-655 A4 w/firmware 1.35NA confirm the above two log entries mentioning securespot appear in the log (assuming ALL log settings are turned on) when your router is rebooted?
Few days ago, I updated the firmware of my router to 1.35NA and everything seemed to be working fine at first. After a while though, I noticed my Nexus One phone wasn't getting internet through WiFi anymore. It is connected to WiFi still, and it can ping the other devices on the network but it won't connect to the web. I have a Xoom tablet connected to WiFi as well and it is getting access to the web, though it seems to drop web access from time to time too, even before the firmware update. My phone always had a connection to the web through WiFi before the update. The two PCs that have a wired connection work fine. In the router logs, I also noticed that "UPnP renew entry 255.255.255.255 <-> ... UDP timeout:0 'Teredo'" being spammed over and over since the update, which I read has something to do with IPv6?

I have hardware ver. C1 Firmware ver. 3.11NA dated June 23, 2009.Should I try and install the other firmwares in subsequent order, i.e. ver 3.11NA (dated 7/15/2009), then ver. 3.12 and then ver. 3.13 Or should the latest and greatest cover them all?

I made the change WAG120G (GREAT) for WAG120N (**bleep**) and I confess that I was somewhat disappointed, the quality of the company fell dramatically. Unlike its predecessor this modem / router is bad in many ways and first of them is support for Macintosh products, the connection drops constantly and have to get on and off the wifi to work. The modem restarts and constantly drops the connection status and its predecessor NEVER did that. iPad, iPhone and Macbook can not even keep me surfing for more than one hour, the connection just stops working. Even the cable connection, my Xbox sometimes worth it to maintain a stable connection in Live. The modem has been updated with the latest firmware version (1.0.0.16). So the DIR 825 along with millions of other routers are vulnerable to an outside upnp exploit basically means somebody from outside can root your router and for example open up whatever ports they want. Upnp has its own issues but it useful for those who don't want to open up a port every time some app might need a specific port but was never meant to be accessible from outside your network, Until now.
This is not some bizarre proof of concept or something that is even hard to pull off and what it would give is access to your entire private network and everything that might entail. There is a upnp exposure test you can do right off the main page. It also explains whats happening and even shows you the code being used, Quite fascinating actually.

When I selected 'Check online for any latest firmware' using the existing firmware, I got a message that that v2.07 (dated 2012-2-21) is available. Until now the router's check has always reported that I have the latest version.
I need to find out from other persons whether or not v2.07 is a real upgrade or is it full of bugs. I tried it once a long time ago and Shareport didn't work at all. Immediately I re-installed v2.00 and I've been pleased with the original shipping version.
What's the scoop on v2.07?
Recently he was having connection issues so decided to upgrade firmware and for some reason he did it through the management console (clicked the update to have it download the new file automatically and instantly upgrade instead of doing it manually himself). Told him not to do that anymore. Anyway, it wiped the existing firmware obviously and did not update to the newest. I came over to find it wouldn't connect at all. I was able to get into the reset console (hold reset while powering on, manual set IP on computer to 192.168.0.2 and gateway to 192.168.0.1 an then pointed the browser to 192.168.0.1).This window shows the current firmware as version 1.0.0.1 dated in 2007.I had downloaded the version 3.0 firmware and the most recent version 3.13 and had them on a flash drive, dropped them on the hard drive and attempted to flash first the newest and then the 3. Neither one would take and the router remains down. The page itself never changed after hitting SEND to upload the firmware, the browser displayed a progress bar for "uploading" and hit 100% then just sat saying "waiting for response from 192.168.0.1" until the browser timed out after several minutes.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a DIR-655 Version B running the stock 2.0 firmware and a Motorola SB6120 cable modem and my ISP is comcast. I have had comcast come out and test my line and everything is fine. I have a desktop directly wired to the internet and several portable devices accessing the router.I cannot connect to the internet. My network is available and none of my devices ever indicate the network isn't available. When I try to load a website it just says "waiting for reply..." and nothing happens. The solution that always works is rebooting both the modem and the router. What is odd is that this problem comes and goes, I will go a week with zero issues, then I go all week with rebooting my stuff 5-8 times a day..What have I tried? I tried the settings that are recommended by Furrynuts to users complaining. I have also tried changing the wireless band settings to different channels as well.

I bought this recently on EBay and it works fine. I have just checked the firmware version and it displays as 120703 rel 29722. This version doesn't appear amongst the downloads - the most recent is 120427. Has somebody upgraded to the wrong software? Should I upgrade to 120427?

I have the firmware v130205 and the latest 130325 does not load as its size is too much by some bytes.(4096 vs 3969 expected.)
I have a WRT54GL v1.1 that has firmware version 4.30.14 build 5 installed(according to the device). The latest version listed on your website is 4.30.13. What does this mean? How do I get a backup of my current version?The device seems to be working fine and the manual I downloaded seems to cover it. I'm on a Mac so I have to set it up manually.

I have a Dir-655 A3 with the firmware 1.32NA. I cannot get the new firmware 1.35NA to take. The router seems to go through the motions of the upgrade, but at the end, when I log back on, the firmware still says 1.32NA & all custom settings remain.I have upgraded the firmware on this router before and I know that when its upgraded, the router is basically reset to factory settings. All the settings have been backed up and I am attempting this upgrade via a wired connection.

Because of this I never upgraded and was told to be satisfied that I can still stay with 1.21 as upgrades caused problems for a number of people.Everything still seems fine with 1.21 except the Shareport utility often does not pickup the printer connection upon booting to Windows Vista. I can always work around this by Disable and then Enable. It will then always find the printer. It is a minor annoyance however.Should I still stay with 1.21 or is upgrading to 1.35 NA recommended ? If I upgrade to 1.35 NA is there a downgrade path back to 1.21 if the upgrade does not work well ?

I have a DIR-615 Ver. C1 f/w3.00. We have been having trouble with the the signal becoming weak or non-existent, so I decided to see if a firmware upgrade would solve the problem. I have attempted to upgrade to DIR615C1C2_FW301B11.bin and to DIR615C1_FW313NAB09.bin with the same result for both of them - with several attempts for each.
The message I get is: "The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.
If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the device may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.
The Gateway will not be reprogrammed."
I have disconnected all other devices to reduce traffic, I have attempted the upload multiple times for 3.01 and 3.13NA, I am logged in as the admin, and I believe the files are proper for this hardware version.
Is there something I am missing that prevents me from performing a firmware upgrade?
Well this one should be in the "Firmware DOs and DONTs" post. I updated to FW 1.11 over wifi and apparently this will corrupt the camera so it needs serviving. Would have been nice to know that before I did it. Since the upgrade from 1.02 1030 I get this note:The throughput of the SD Card on your camera is not currently enough for recording. We suggest you to reformat the SD Card or replace it with a higher class one.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI wanted to upgrade to the latest firmware (2.03NA). Something went wrong and now the router comes up with the orange light flashing. So the system is in emergency firmware upgrade mode. I set my IP to 192.168.0.2 and connect to the web interface at 192.168.0.1. I see a page with "Firmware Upgrade System" and "Version 1.0.0.2". So far so good. I can now select the firmware and click "send". But then nothing really happens. I can wait for a couple of minutes and then run into a timeout. I tried different browsers (Linux: Firefox, Chrome, etc). I even tried it Windows 7 with IE 8 and I get the same result. It seems that the cgi (192.168.0.1./cgi/index) is not really doing anything?

I did the first portion of the 2.05NA upgrade while wired into LAN1 on the unit, after the reboot the power light went Amber and the unit would no longer respond to pings. I have searched around for various reset methods but have not been able to find a guide or a definitive current D-Link tech manual on how to fix a bad flash. I have tried pinging/arping/web browsing its default IP and the IP I had it set to to no avail.

If the laptop/ipad/phone is in the same room as the router, things are fine. Anywhere else in the house, the speed drops off to almost nothing even though the signal strength is very good. For example: Under the "Speed" section of my "Wireless Network Connection Status" on my laptop, I'm seeing 150.0Mbps in the same room as the router, 25.0 Mbps in the hallway and 1.0 Mbps about 5 steps further away. All the while, the signal strength is showing Excellent.Speakeasy speedtest: Wired 23.36 Mbps, wireless at the end of the hallway, .12 Mbps.

I have just updated myDIR-655 A4 to firmware 1.35NA by the procedure: save config > upload firmware > load config.However after upgrading, my admin page now logout after every ~10 sec of inactivity.I have tried the method where to view the admin page without a style, to be able to set the timeout period, from 5 mins to 3, 8 and 10 mins, but no matter what I set, it still logs me out after ~10 sec.
