I believe it was around 2004 when we first setup our network. We have four data closets with fiber going between them. Each have three D-Link DSS-24+ switches with 10/100 ethernet. We would like to upgrade to switches with gigabit ethernet but are having a hell of a time finding a variety that use SFP modules.
I have a linksys E3000 gigabit wireless router with 4 ports, two unmanaged Trendnet 8 port gigabit switches and one unmanaged Trendnet Poe 8 port 10/100 switch. My question is what is the right or best way to connect these together? (The majority of connections are just to unused wall connection plates, the used connections are to a home automation controller, a security dvr, a roku, a wdtvlive media player, a NAS, a network printer, a security screen and two desktops computers) example
1. use a standard ethernet cable for each switch to the router?
2. Use a standard ehternet cable from the router to switch 1 then from switch 1 to switch 2 to switch 3?
3. Use a standard ehternet cable from the router to the 1st switch then a cross over cable to switch 2 then cross over cable to switch 3??
i have a 20 story high rise condo bldg that i am providing internet service to. I have a 8 port managed network switch on the 1st floor. I have a cat6 line ran from each port to the 8 distrabution closets in the bldg.My question is this if i am using a managed switch to send the signal to the other switches, do the other switches also need to be managed? or can i use unmanaged switches at the other locations. I do not want each condo on those switches to be able to see or comunicate with the other condos on those switches. I am using 48 port switches in the 8 distrabution closets.
May i know which model of unmanaged switch can handle 400-700 client? i am currently design a hostel network.and my client will be about max 400-700 user, actually is 400 client, because maybe some of the client will connect their ipad and etc at the same time when they suffering the web.
i am gonna using Peplink Manage 580 which support 5 WAN ports.because my country ISP just provide max 20Mbps internet service to business. that's why i want a load balancer that support 5 WAN ports.i plan to use 5 line which is 20Mbps each and connect to the 5 WAN ports.after connect to Peplink balancer, there is only 1 Gigabit LAN port to let me to connect to the switch.
And i need a at least 40 port of switch which all the 40 LAN cable will connect to TP-link AP.mean that all my client is using WIFI to access to the network. And i don't have much knowledge about networking, so i wish to use and unmanaged switch which able to handle 400-700 clients.any plug and play unmanaged network switch (at least 40 port) introduce?
Because of licensing we want to keep some particular devices unmanaged via Inventory => Manage/Unmanage devices. But after some minutes all unmanaged set devices get back to managed. Its reproduceable many times.
I am trying to make my LAN to work at home. Its pretty small but I am bearly an smart user, noobie if so.I have a Motorola Cable Modem model SB5101 receiving the internet from Shaw Cable.from there I have an ethernet cable to my switch (Cisco SE2500) from there I have two ethernet cables coming out, one goes to my PC and the other one goes to an Airport Extreme so our laptop.I am just here double checking this info... sice this is an unmanaged switch I guess there is no way of accesng an interface to make this happen.I just hate spending the money in something I wont be using just because I dont know whats going on.
I'm looking to connect my 50+ drops I have in my home based business. I transfer large files 5+gigs on a regular basis between the machines. I currently just have some cheap Netgear 8port, gigabyte switch's but when transferring files I max out around 12-15mb/sec. This takes WAY too long to transfer files.
I need a network switch so I can get my speeds up to 60+mb/sec at least. (my seconds job office has this ability)
What would I need to get this kind of speed? All my cabling is CAT6, with CAT6 ends. Would I need a managed switch to get this kind of speed?
I was looking at a couple switches. Cisco Sg 100-24 24-PORT Gigabit Switch $374 or Cheaper option Netgear Prosafe GS724T-300NAS 24 Port Gigabit Smart Switch W/ Rack Mount Kit $199
Or is there something else I could go with in this price range?
Currently my home network is being switched via TrendNet TEGs80G unmanaged gig switches. I have been using them for about a year now with no issues. As my home network becomes more advanced, I recently just added a Cisco ASA5505, I am thinking about swapping those unmanaged devices, 4 of them, to managed. I was looking at the Cisco SG300-10 for upstairs, and a 16 port variant for my main core. These devices do not support full Cisco IOS cli, but they are manageable with a rich feature set nonetheless. My question is, should I swap the unmanaged devices with the more expensive Cisco devices, or just keep what works and save the money until I really need to spend it. As previously stated, my home LAN works just fine as it is, however my WiFi, NTV550s, server and workstations are all on the same network. Probably not the most secure but it is what it is without VLAN support.
I'm trying to setup Link Aggregation on this switch for an HP server with a 4-port NIC which is teamed. I create the LAG and see in the HP Network Utility where each port in the team disconnects then reconnects and the server has internet access, but workstations cannot access the server (can't browse UNC, RDP, ping, etc.) and vice versa. This is the only switch at the site, all the workstations are plugged into it. Rebooting the switch after creating the group didn't have any effect.
l have a web-site and when l go on it it comes up with blank page internet explorer cant load this page.l have phone talk talk and they cant fix it.l have a d-link router, its only my own web-site l cant access all other web-sites l can access.
i m using ISP provided modem+router and another D-Link Wireless router at the same time... My computer is connected to D-LInk's Router and D-Link's Router is connected to ISP's Modem...My modem's Ip address is : 192.168.1.1 Router's IP Address: 192.168.0.1ok but now problem is that now Dlink is connected to ISP's Modem and ISP's modem assigns different ip to Wl.Router. Both have DHCP enabled... But i want modem (which is also a router) to assign D-Link's router the STATIC IP... like 192.168.1.54Router Model is D-link DIR-615 Modem Model is ZTE EchoLife HG510a
I am trying to connect two D-link 24 port switches thru cat 6 cable, distance is less than 50 meters, but its not working but if i connecting it with a Laptop i am able to connect to the network. But if i connect the switch in between it fails i tried changing the switch and cable but no use anyone have a clue how it fails?
We have 3 WiFi links between 2 buildings, these links carry a main data network, a VOIP network and a CCTV network. Occasionally due to unestablished factors we loose one or other of the links for a short period (5mins to an hour). In order to give some redundancy I opted to use a pair of switches and utilize MSTP to give a low cost solution. I have installed an SF302-08P in one building and an SRW208G in the other building and connected ports 1-3 as trunk ports to the three wifi links on both. Ports 5-7 on both switches are set as access ports and connect to the respective networks within that building. MSTP region is set the same on both switches and the instances and VLANs are the same on both switches. I have set port priority and cost to force the three networks to use their own link until a failure occurs. Then within the MSTP instances I have set the path costs such that CCTV or MAIN failover to VOIP last of all. During testing on the bench using patch cables to simulate the wifi links all went well. Upon installation things got a little more difficult. The VOIP network seems to work well but the CCTV won't pass the video traffic until the SF302-08P is rebooted even though I could connect a PC and login to the CCTV devices from either direction. More serious though is no matter what I do the MAIN network will not pass traffic. The MSTP interface settings show the correct port states with (in the case of MAIN network - MSTP instance 3) Port 1 Alternate, Port 2 Discarding, Port 3 Forwarding and Port 7 Forwarding. However a pcap shows no traffic across the wifi link on VLAN 4 (MAIN) although Layer 1 must be ok as VLAN1 is fine. The only other factor that may be relevent could be the wifi units themselves as the CCTV and VOIP links use an older 2.4GHz bridge while the MAIN link uses a newer 5GHz bridge. The 2.4G units have no knowledge of STP while the 5G units are 802.1d aware but I'm sure I read somewhere that 802.1d devices will cause problems with RTSP or MSTP networks due to the BDPU message format compatability, therefore I left it disabled.
Having issues waking NAS devices using a magic packet when using link aggregation on an SG300-28 switch.
Without link aggregation everything works fine so I know the magic packet is being generated correctly and the NAS device is correctly configured to wake. After configuring link aggregation the device does not wake. Have tried dynamic (LACP) and static link aggregation but neither allowed the device to wake? When the NAS is powered off, the ports in the LAG still show as being connected at 100M but it appears the magic packet is not being transmitted.
I have a Synology 1512+ and trying to setup Link Aggregation but no success. I have configured LAG Management with LACP enable or disable but still failed.
At the Synology 1512+ setting page, there are 2 options: IEEE 802.3ad Dynamic Link Aggregation and Network Fault Tolerance (Non-802.3ad network enirovement), I selected IEEE802.3ad, which i think S200-18 should be able to support. right?
I have a problem with switches SPS208G2. They're conected with SFP module after Linksys SPS224G4 and another swithes. After reboot switches which are conected with SPS208G2 don't see link. However previous switches phisical link status is up show LED, but protocol status is down show command "show interface status". I changed Firmware, it doesn't work, i changed SFP module it doesn't work. Yesterday i got new Firmware ls_sps2xx_bx-10600.ros but no luck. I don't understand what's wrong with switches SPS208G2. I have 500 or 700 switches SPS208G2. They installed different places at city. They don't ping until reboot their or previous switches. Reboot previous switches usually doesn't work, works only physical reboot or pulling SFP module.
My buffalo link station 3t was giving me problems due to avg firewall blocking access to my drive. so switched it off to work . now that the drive is working but now when i click to access the drive the back ground on the desktop goes black on windows 7 its a acer laptop and the graphics are blurey.
I have 4 workstation at 4 different power substations. Each substation have switches. All substations is link with fiber optic cable throw switches. Each substation has 100 relay (IED) with different IP address it connect with substation switches. The IP address of substation is[CODE]
I just deployed two stacked SG500X switches. I noticed these messages in the log (see below). Despite these messages everything appears to be functioning.

answer regarding stacking the SGE2010 switches versus link aggregation if greater than 1 Gb connectivity is required between individual switches? Currently have several switches in a stack configuration but would like to increase the bandwidth between some or all of the switches. Does stacking support a link aggregation configuration? If so what ports can be used and how should the link aggregation be configured in conjunction with the stacking?
I have 8 apartments that have a single internet connection coming into the building, I then have a PoE Access Point in each of the 8x apartments.
What I would like to be able to do is to have each apartment within its own vlan, but to be able to use the internet via one of the non-PoE ports (port 9 say) but do not want residents in different flats to be able to see each others devices on the same network.
I have a Cisco SG 300-10MP which has 8x PoE ports and 2x Ethernet ports, one of which my Internet connection is plugged into (using WiMax).
I have several SGE2010P switches connected in a stack. They are working fine as a stack.
Question is - what traffic, besides stack control, is carried over the stacking links?
All unused ports are VLAN 1U. Ports in use belong to VLANs 100, 101, and 105.Since I cannot configure or see the stacking ports, I am unclear if any non-default VLAN traffic passes over those links between switches?
I have a DI-604 D-link router, is it necessay to upgrade to newer router to get faster access to internet? Upgrade Firmware? I have a PD950 processor with Win XP pro and use it for DAYTRADING streaming data and fast executions.
I just purchased a Cisco SF 102-24 unmanaged 100 series swith with a MGBSX1 mini-Gbic converter. My goal is to connect this to a building that is connected with a Black Box LH1706A-ST media converter that has 100mb ST fiber connections. In my testing the Black Box shows both a Fiber link and RJ45 port link at 100mb, but the MGBSX1 does not show any link lights or traffic. So a computer connected to the Cisco switch is not able to communicate over the fiber connection.
Can the MGBSX1 be connected to a media converter that only has 10/100 ST fiber connectors?
I have two switch SG300-10 that need to be interconnect togheter with a simple redundant "cable fail safe" configuration. My idea is use the two uplink copper port of the first switch, connected to the two uplink copper port of the second switch.
How to create a working setup configuration? The first setup that i need, is with only one VLAN1 for all ports,
The second setup is with the VLAN1 assigned to the ports 1-2-3-4 of all the two switch, (linked togheter by uplink ports) and the VLAN2 assigned to the ports 5-6-7-8 always linked togheter with the same uplink ports.
Is possible use the two uplink port at the same time, as cable fail safe? or use a uplink port 1 for the first group and the second uplink port for second group?
I need to use this configuration for audio cobranet transport, and i need to test the correct configuration for the primary and secondary audio stream, if can work togheter on the same VLAN or i need to separate the two stream, from start to the end.
I'm working with a customer who has an SGE2000P and a Catalyst 2960 to setup and configure a single mode fiber link. The SGE2000P has an MFELX1 fiber GBIC and the 2960 has a GLC-LH-SMD GBIC. When I have the customer plug in his fiber, there is a power light that comes on on the MFELX1 GBIC. Neither GBICs/switches show that a link or activity is occurring, but the presence of that light makes me think that they are connecting somehow. Are these two switches/GBICs compatible?
I'd like to use an SG200 swicth to allocate bandwidth on a 100 Mbps fiber Internet uplink.I will have 5 routers (each supporting a separate network) connected to the SG200, and I'd like to give each network 20 Mbps. QOS configuration, best CIR and CBS settings for this.
I have 2 Cisco Catalyst 6509 switches connected directly using direct point to point link. The OSPF is configured for point - point link. The currently the interface is down administratively.I will unshut the port . After that i would like to know how much time will it take for the ospf to establish the neighbour relation.
everything was all good, my brother went crazy and unplugged everything.it effects our house phone too, that could be the problem.i just dont know what wires went where. all the wires are the same color.but i know which is which. just again, dont know where.i would like to get it done before he gets home later on.
I want to setup an home network with a wireless router and use multiple switches for wired connections through out my home. I currently have an Airport extreme hooked up to a cable modem and a leviton gateway hooked up to the Airport. The 2 computers connected to the Leviton are on a windows 7 homegroup and share fine, but won't share or discover any wireless device connected to Airport. My main goal is to have a wireless/wired network with all computers sharing information with each other. I want 2-3 wired switches/gateways with a min of 2 devices connected to each, connected to my wireless router whiich is connected to cable modem.
