View 4 RepliesI'm thinking of purchasing a Cisco Linksys EA6500. I need a router that can one monitor bandwidth used by device. Keep exceeding our ISP's network bandwidth allocation, need to identify the devices that are causing this high usage and be able to do so from the router. Does the EA6500's standard software support this, is their router software one can obtain for the unit that does this or is there another home router option that can perform this function?
View 6 Replies View RelatedOut of all the computers in my house there is one computer that does not seem to be able to get an internet connection. Usally I would fire up the computer, then unplug and put back in the wireless device and it would start working but just recently no matter what I try it will not work. When I set the computer up to connect with a static ip, i get a local connection only (or at least thats what networking centre says) and when i rely on dhcp i get 'identifying network' forever. No network settings have been changed and I have tried an ethernet connection as well which also didn't work. I have tested the wireless device on another computer and it works fine.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy work wireless network is stuck on identifying. It works for ALL other computers in the office. It works when I am wired to the router. I've tried most things that forums tell me to do. Below is the IP config. It is only this network and one other. Both are provided by verizon if that makes any difference.

i have tried many things i have tried to reset my router with the cmd prompt i have checked my drivers i have tried the simple things and at this point.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt all happened pretty suddenly, from 1 day to the other, suddenly i was unable to connect to my home network. I started to troubleshoot, search forums etc. But no luck. I triedand look for the problem myself and found that thenetwork was enabled but it stayed on "identifying network". By clicking buttons from here and there on thecontrol panel i found something like a network recognition or something like that and a yellow little prompt appeared on the top of the explorer saying something like the network idetification was disabled, so i clicked and selected enable but it prompted again, so i just entered to the advanced network recognition center and noticed that on the public and private tabs netowrk recognition was disabled, so i clicked enable on both and saved changes, but the changes dont save, its like if i wasn't on a administrator account (but i had no error messages, it just wont enable).

So here's a fresh spin (and not in a good way) on the seemingly common port-flapping issue, where a windows vista/7 machine's ethernet port vacillates between "enabling, identifying,network cable unplugged." I've tried the fixes I've seen around, like forcing the speed to 10 or 100Mb duplex,etc. But I think the problem goes deeper than that -or drivers or faulty NICs. Its acting like it's in the cabling. . . but not. Any advice would be welcome.Just switched from one DSL provider (Bell) to another (Teksavvy). Connected via a dry loop. When the Bell tech first set it up a year ago, he did it like this: Patch cord frome the Bell 2Wire modem/router combo to a female coupler. Female coupler attached to cat5 cable running about 25/30 feet along baseboards around the corner to another female coupler. Patch cord from female coupler to NIC in the back of my box. This worked fine. New set up with Tek savvy is as follows: DSL modem via patch cord to (wireless) D-Link router. D-link router connected to computer by same aforementioned setup. This results in the port-flapping named in the title of this message, on the hard line only. Any change in my computer was ruled out by connecting a brand new, never been connected laptop and the same terminal as my computer. Results in port flapping. The same laptop connected to the router by just the patch cord results in a perfect connection. I've tried moving the patch cords around, it doesn't change the results, so they're fine. I have no way of testing this long stretch of installed cable in the middle, with the couplers on it, since I don't have an equal length cable to try out anywhere, but I'd be surprised if that just died after a year's use exactly when I connected new hardware to the other end of it. Running windows 7 with a RealTek NIC on my box. D-Link router (will check the model later, at work at the moment), and TP-Link DSL modem. The system delivers wireless internet flawlessly.

I am unable to connect to the wired network. We have a 4 port prolink router and there is no error with it. I know because I am using the same cable for my laptop, which I am using for my desktop. I just unplug it from the desktop and plug it to laptop. I am unable to provide any specs from the desktop because there is an error in that computer.
However, I can give ipconfig/all data from my father's computer, which use another port of the same router.
My laptop is working perfectly with the Mobile BroadBand. And this is a dual boot computer with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and the cable is fine with Ubuntu.

I have a Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router set up on my home network. When I first got the router, I used the installation disk on my desktop PC to set up my wireless network. I am getting rid of this computer, as I now have a laptop computer. The laptop can already utilize the network, and I can even configure the router using the laptop. Obviously, the old desktop doesn't even have to be turned on for any other laptops or devices to use the network.
If I get rid of the old desktop, will it be necessary to run the installation disk that came with the router on my new primary PC? Or is that a one time process to configure the router with the modem and set up a network?
My home computer accesses the Internet through an ADSL modem and a phone line. I added a wired router (Linksys BEFSR41).I've since bought a laptop computer, an iPhone4 and a wireless router (Linksys WRT160N).Again, on the advice of a friend, I ADDED the wireless router, so now have two routers connected.The devices are connected as follows:
-Wall jack to ADSL modem
-ADSL modem to BEFSR41
-BEFSR41 to WRT160N
-WRT160N to desktop computer.
As I understand Linksys routers, the default IP address for ALL Linksys routers is 192.168.1.1.Both the iPhone4 and the laptop are unable to connect to the wireless router.I'm assuming the two routers are conflicting with each other, so I thought I would remove the wired router..Can I change the IP address of the BEFSR41 router from 192.168.1.2?
Would this resolve the conflict between the two routers and allow the wireless devices to "see" the wireless router? What's the correct procedure for removing the BEFSR41 router from the system?
Often my router drops connection to all my devices. Multiple times a day. It's only for a minute or so, but it's annoying. I'm using a Linksys Wireless-N router (WRT160N) with WEP encryption. I'm running two Windows 7 laptops, LG BluRay player, Apple TV, Xbox 360 (Wired) iPhone 4, and a iPad 2. It doesn't matter if I'm browsing the web, watching Netflix, or playing a game, the connection gets lost. As we speak it happened again. I have no clue on what to do. I've reconfigured it multiple times. Firmware has been updated months ago.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirstly I cannot get my Linksys RE1000 to work with my network having tried the set up CD on 2 computers (mac and windows). The main router is a BT Home Hub 2.0
The main router is in the basement where out internet connection enters the house, also in the basement is our LAN board where we have ethernet cables extending to parts of the house. There is weak wireless signal from groundfloor up to the top floor so wanted to find something where I could plug into the ethernet port and it would broadcast an wireless network to the upper floors/areas with a weaker signal. Thought the RE1000 would do this job but i can't get it to do it wirelessly let alone connect it to the main router using a ethernet cable.
I would like to wirelessly connect my printer through the new router without internet. The setup CD won't allow me to install without an internet connection.

When I changed my linksys wireless adapter I tried to get on the internet and it would not connect to the linksys router, so I then do not know exactly what I did,but the result was that i finally had a connection. That was a month ago and I finally looked at the network mapping after I noticed the desktop was on a lan network and the cable connection was flagged. Apparently, I created something called a switch with the router and now I have a whole new network in my name that has the cable connection.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I am on my second HDD with Iomega. I am thinking now that this is a router problem rather than a HDD problem. I have a 1TB Iomega home media network drive, eversince I bought my router and began using it I have been unable to use my HDD. It is hard wired to the router via RJ-45 cable and both units have been reset and powered up in about every order you can imagine. I have reset factory defaults on the router and made security changes to ensure there was nothing blocking that port. I am at wits end. I cannot connect to the HDD and the drive flashes yellow and blue indicating it cannot estabilsh or receive an IP address from the router.

If these devices are wired in the network they don't have any issues seeing the airport express. Is there any special configuration I need to do to my E3000 so that wireless devices can see each other? I also had the same issue with my ps3 for streaming from wireless laptop to wireless ps3.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a new router - WRTP54G . I used to have our 2 machines on a home network. However, that is all gone now. When I open My Network Places on my pc, nothing at all appears. On the other pc only the shared folders on that pc appears. I've tried running the network wizard several times and to no avail. I've checked the permissions and everything else I can think of, but it still doesn't work. I believe it is probably something simple to fix, like checking the right box, but I haven't found it yet. Both machines are running XP Home and I have an external drive attached to my pc. Everything worked fine till the installation of this new router. Should I just create a new network? Would that just be easier? One more thing, I got the error that says Home is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact admin of this server to find out if you have access permission. The network path was not found. Of course, I am the admin.

Currently, I use a pair of WAP54G access points to bridge between the two locations, and everything works OK, if slowly.Today, I bought a WRT320N router and a WET610N bridge to replace the access points, but I having a real problem configuring them to work. I think the basic problem is with the IP addresses that they use. The current configuration is:
DSL Modem -> Access Point -- several yards -- Access Point -> PC
and I want to go to:
DSL Modem -> WRT320N -- several yards -- WET610N -> PC
I guess my basic question is this a reasonable idea or should I be using something different for the WRT320N end? I don't want to change the basic IP address subnet (192.168.1.*) and I want to keep the DSL modem as the default gateway (192.168.1.254). When I installed the WRT320, it assigned itself an IP address of 192.168.0.1 and the WET610N an IP address of 192.168.0.101, and I think the DSL modem also assigned the WRT320 an IP address of 192.168.1.99, so I am a little confused as to which IP addresses I should be setting where.
I have a hobby network at home, the structure of which follows:*Modem * - active SPI firewall -- Then the E4200 distributes data via wifi to/between the following machines --*Server - providing services such as http, FTP, VPN, Mail, MySQL, OpenDirectory, Plex media server, etc.*Two other workstations that access their user details/settings from open directory on the server.Now the purpose of this network other than providing standard access to Internet services from within the LAN is to provide access to the services maintained on my server to users on my LAN when they leave it/go mobile.Now with my limited knowledge of networking I have been using port forwarding to direct service requests through the firewall, however I have found with the E4200 that I have a limited number of custom port fields to use (about 15) which is extremely limiting when I have as many potential services that my server can provide.I could move the Server to a DMZ but then dosen't that put all my other services that have no need to be exposed at unnecessary risk.Do I need to invest in a separate hardware firewall and put it after the modem and before the router?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a home network with a Linksys E4200 connected to the ISP's fiber box. The problem is that when I'm connected to the Linksys, either wired or wireless, the connection to the internet will drop after what seems to be a random amount of time (normally anywhere from 2-10 minutes). I can restore the connection by doing any of these things:-reboot Linksys-disconnect and reconnect cable from router to fiber box-if on wireless connection, make changes to the router wifi settings, like change the wifi channel.The internal network stays up, and I can ping both the internal and external ip of the router, but not the fiber box. I have also had the same behavior with an Edimax Wifi AP and less frequently with a Edimax router (once every 1-2 days). I have done everything I can think of:-changed the wifi channels-changed the ip ranges, subnets, turned router DHCP off and back on-booted the fiber box-changed cables-updated all routers to the latest firmware, the network cards with latest drivers...and loads other things that I don't remember right now. For the wifi side of things, there are no other networks in range that could interfere. The same problem occurs on both my and wife's Win 7 laptops and on the iMac (latest OSX). Here's a fun detail: while the Linksys has lost its connection to the internet, I can still access the internet through the old Edimax router connected to the same fiber box, either wired or wireless.
