Wireless Network Stays As Identifying And Not Connecting
Jan 19, 2012
Where I tried to conect to my home wifi or the school's wifi and it just says "identifying" on the network connections and on the list of wifi networks around in the notification area it says "No internet acces" and can't connect to the internet. I stoped trying to look for a solution but I don't have internet at home

My work wireless network is stuck on identifying. It works for ALL other computers in the office. It works when I am wired to the router. I've tried most things that forums tell me to do. Below is the IP config. It is only this network and one other. Both are provided by verizon if that makes any difference.

Out of all the computers in my house there is one computer that does not seem to be able to get an internet connection. Usally I would fire up the computer, then unplug and put back in the wireless device and it would start working but just recently no matter what I try it will not work. When I set the computer up to connect with a static ip, i get a local connection only (or at least thats what networking centre says) and when i rely on dhcp i get 'identifying network' forever. No network settings have been changed and I have tried an ethernet connection as well which also didn't work. I have tested the wireless device on another computer and it works fine.

It all happened pretty suddenly, from 1 day to the other, suddenly i was unable to connect to my home network. I started to troubleshoot, search forums etc. But no luck. I triedand look for the problem myself and found that thenetwork was enabled but it stayed on "identifying network". By clicking buttons from here and there on thecontrol panel i found something like a network recognition or something like that and a yellow little prompt appeared on the top of the explorer saying something like the network idetification was disabled, so i clicked and selected enable but it prompted again, so i just entered to the advanced network recognition center and noticed that on the public and private tabs netowrk recognition was disabled, so i clicked enable on both and saved changes, but the changes dont save, its like if i wasn't on a administrator account (but i had no error messages, it just wont enable).

So here's a fresh spin (and not in a good way) on the seemingly common port-flapping issue, where a windows vista/7 machine's ethernet port vacillates between "enabling, identifying, network cable unplugged." I've tried the fixes I've seen around, like forcing the speed to 10 or 100Mb duplex, etc. But I think the problem goes deeper than that -or drivers or faulty NICs. Its acting like it's in the cabling. . . but not. Any advice would be welcome.Just switched from one DSL provider (Bell) to another (Teksavvy). Connected via a dry loop. When the Bell tech first set it up a year ago, he did it like this: Patch cord frome the Bell 2Wire modem/router combo to a female coupler. Female coupler attached to cat5 cable running about 25/30 feet along baseboards around the corner to another female coupler. Patch cord from female coupler to NIC in the back of my box. This worked fine. New set up with Tek savvy is as follows: DSL modem via patch cord to (wireless) D-Link router. D-link router connected to computer by same aforementioned setup. This results in the port-flapping named in the title of this message, on the hard line only. Any change in my computer was ruled out by connecting a brand new, never been connected laptop and the same terminal as my computer. Results in port flapping. The same laptop connected to the router by just the patch cord results in a perfect connection. I've tried moving the patch cords around, it doesn't change the results, so they're fine. I have no way of testing this long stretch of installed cable in the middle, with the couplers on it, since I don't have an equal length cable to try out anywhere, but I'd be surprised if that just died after a year's use exactly when I connected new hardware to the other end of it. Running windows 7 with a RealTek NIC on my box. D-Link router (will check the model later, at work at the moment), and TP-Link DSL modem. The system delivers wireless internet flawlessly.

I am having Dell Inpiron 4030. Following are specs
Quote: Quote:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(Tm) i3 CPU M380 @2.53GHz
RAM - 2.00 GB
OS - Windows 7 ultimate 32 but
I am unable to connect to the wired network. We have a 4 port prolink router and there is no error with it. I know because I am using the same cable for my laptop, which I am using for my desktop. I just unplug it from the desktop and plug it to laptop. I am unable to provide any specs from the desktop because there is an error in that computer.
However, I can give ipconfig/all data from my father's computer, which use another port of the same router.
My laptop is working perfectly with the Mobile BroadBand. And this is a dual boot computer with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and the cable is fine with Ubuntu.
Following is the result of ipconfig/all

I have a DIR-655 Rev B1, FW 2.01 (I will probably upgrade the FW tonight to the latest.)
I have at least 20 items that connect wirelessly to this router (2 PCs, 2 Laptops, 2 Tivo Box, 3 Game Consoles, 3 Cell Phones, 2 Tablets, 2 TVs, Printer, AP Gateway, and some other projects) It's been a solid connection to everything for the past couple of years.
I bought a new Dell Inspiron 15r SE laptop (uses the Intel Centrion Wireless-N 2230 Wifi Solution.) After anywhere from 2 - 10 mins of browsing/watching a video/downloading files the access out to the internet simply stops.
At this point I'm still connected wirelessly to the router, and if I go to the router address I still have access and can login and see the router settings. I check and there's plenty of time left on the lease (days.) Still not getting internet access. Eventually my Laptop will disconnect and reconnect (or I do it manually.) I've performed hard resets of the router, I've had my laptop Forget the network and then reconnect, etc. Nothing has resolved it.
I thought it may be my laptop, but I've taken it to Starbuck, Work, Neighbors WiFi, etc and I don't have any problems staying connected on their networks.
I've had Dell on the line, we connected hardwired, and there solution was to force forget and reconnect to the router, which worked for the 10min he was on the line with me, but then failed soon after, and back in the same connectivity hell

A day ago, I was having trouble with my apartment modem, and due to a busy schedule, was only able to do a quick "Unplug and reset" which seemed to work at first, but eventually it stopped working all together. Today, I traveled from my apartment to my "home" home, where the wireless network is set at a "Home" security level. However, my wireless now will not connect at all. It continues to cycle through "Identifying" yet cannot make the connection. It works through a LAN connection however. So far, I've attempted the follow:
- run>ipconfig/all, ipconfig/reset, etc
- winsock reset
- system restore
My computer is a Samsung RC512, running windows 7. Here's the paste from my ipconfig/all:

I did some testing with a few wireless N routers and then decided to buy a Linksys e 2500 as it was on a special for $66 in Australia. The wireless routers i tested were (Belkin brand new model / Netcomm & Dlink Used ones)1. Netcomm N800n Fastest wireless transfer speed 9MBytes or 72 MBPS.2. Dlink - Around 6MBytes/s or 48MBPS.3. Belkin - Around 4-5 MBytes/secDid not test the Linksys before buying it.4. Linksys E 2500 - around 5MBytes/s = 40MBPS.After all this testing, got a new Linksys believing that a cisco device should have good quality. My problems is that the connection speed on the device stays a 72BPS whereas on the Netcomm / D-link it used to be 130mbps. Not that this bothers me, however the file transfer speed matches the Link status connection speed. The router was placed at exactly the same location, file transfer was checked by transferring large file sizes.Lan setup is1. Belkin ADSL 2+ (Modem with Wireless b/g and Voip) only being used now as an ADSL Modem and VOIP service.2. Cisco linksys e 2500.3. Media centre PC which has a wired connection to linksys e 2500.4. Main PC (Connected wireless to the linksys). The network adapter is a DLINK DWA125 N150 adapter (2.4GHZ only). The distance between the wireless adapter and the wireless router is approximately 12 feet and there is direct line of sight.5. IPAD.5. Using 2.4GHZ as i dont have a 5GHZ adapter yet. Router is only on wireless N mode.I was better off using a second hand Netcomm rather than a brand new Cisco router. The cisco router has 4 internal antennas, whereas the netcomm one had only 2 external antennas. My signal strength is excellent. Only problem is the slow internal transfer between the Main PC and the Media Center PC. Main PC is Core i7 950 where as the Media Centre is a Core 2 Duo e6400GHZ with 4GB Ram. Both PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate (Main PC) , Professional (Media Centre PC). My network knowledge is decent. Is there any settings in the advanced Wireless mode for the Linksys that can make my internal file transfers faster. [code]

For a while now when I try to connect to my wireless router (Netgear WNR1000) It says "Identifying..." for a while, but then it will disconnect . My wireless only works sometimes if I reset the router every once and a while. Even then it will connect properly with my computer for two days tops. The wireless works on the other computers in the house, just not mine. I've checked all of the wireless settings to make sure they match correctly to the network .

I'm thinking of purchasing a Cisco Linksys EA6500. I need a router that can one monitor bandwidth used by device. Keep exceeding our ISP's network bandwidth allocation, need to identify the devices that are causing this high usage and be able to do so from the router. Does the EA6500's standard software support this, is their router software one can obtain for the unit that does this or is there another home router option that can perform this function?

I have to restart the gateway everytime for 0/0/1 to come up. Thoughts? Interface config is below.

I am ignorant with networking. The most I know is /ipconfig.I am stationed in Japan and have a fiber modem going into my DIR-655. For about two years everything has been fine...no problems ever.About a month ago, I started getting timeouts and page not found errors when surfing the web, but my online games (EVE, WoW, etc) and our Xbox360/PS3 work fine. The only thing I could think was to unplug and plug back the DIR-655. Sometimes that works for a day or a week, but ultimately it always comes back. Is there a setting on the router I can change to avoid this, or a software command I can issue from the computer to clear something?

I might fancy having my desktop stay in a sleep state, waking whenever I need to access it for a file or something, so I tried to use WOL. The nic and bios support it, however when I enable it...
The machine only stays off off for 5-10 seconds at a time. I think this is because instead of waking from only a magic packet, it is waking from ANY packet.

Issue: Working on the internet, my computer (LAN) disconnects, Laptop (WAN) disconnects, but the router does not disconnect. The light that shows connection to net flashes like crazy (showing ADHD *** activity), the network lights just stay stable (showing no activity). After 5-10 minutes the problem sometimes fixes itself, or, more likely, I unplug the router, wait 2 minutes, plug it back in. Sometimes it works right away, sometimes it takes a second unplug. My computer is wired to the router which connects to a modem. The modem is not mine, its installed by my ISP.
Failed attempts to fix:Replace router. Bought brand new Netgear (will put numbers in here later) to replace the Dir-825.Same issues. In fear of malware, spyware, etc (I run a tight ship on my computer, I love it dearly and I'm mildly paranoid), I formatted the SSD, reinstalled Windows 7 64bit. Same issues. My ISP has to authorize every connection, so I've used the router to use my Mac Address and I can connect with the cable directly in the back of the computer, or to the router

What the problem that whenever I try to connect to the internet it will forever say "identifying" and never get internet access. It is the same problem with both wireless connections and when I have an Ethernet cable plugged in. I have an Asus U31JG with WIndows 7 64-bit. This laptop is a month old to me and the wireless has been acting up since the day I got it, will explain below. I believe my home network is the problem. I have a Linksys WRT54G with WPA Personal encryption. Multiple times a day my internet quits working even though Windows says it has full connection to my router. To fix this, I open command prompt and use "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew". This fixes the problem for me, it may be a minute or a few hours. The problem is very intermittent and only happens at my home which is why I believe it is my network. However, I changed the wireless channel to 1, the only one around on that channel and tried different security settings. My WiFi works flawlessly if I take my laptop to my friends house where he has a Netgear router. I have also tried a brand new Cisco Router as well as a Netgear router at my house.
I've re installed the driver twice, and the same problem persists in Linux only I just have to disable/enable wireless.
Note: When the internet quits working on my laptop it works on other devices so it is not the internet connection causing this. And my internet is very slow when it is working on my laptop via wireless.

My DIR-825 stays on even when I flick the power switch, for as long as I don't disconnect the externally powered Belkin USB hub from it. Some lights do come off, Internet light turns orange, but it stays on. If I disconnect the hub before trying to shut down the router, it turns off instantly.
I feel slightly worried by this because as far as I am aware, a USB client device shouldn't be feeding power to the host. On the other hand, the host shouldn't be accepting power from the client either.
Also, sometimes after days since last reboot, the USB light on the router is not on despite connected devices, and they may or may not appear in Shareport.

I have an MPLS router that connects to the core network. This router distributes (per route maps) routes from OSPF into BGP and from BGP into OSPF.The OSPF Process conencts a 6509 to the 7206 MPLS router. There are some routes in the OSPF process that I have filtered out of the 6509. They do not show up inthe 6509 at all and this is the only way they can be getting into the 7206.Checking the 6509 database, this route is gone, but it stays in the 7206 until I clear the route manually. The result is the route still gets distributed into MPLS. [code]
One thing to note, there are two possible OSPF paths the route gets into OSPF, one of them, the route is filtered with distribute-list on the 6509, which means it is still in the database, so it is still in the 7206 database, and still get distributed into BGP on the 7206, correct?

ok so the problem is our old modem/router combo finally died after 6 years of doing good. After that we bought a new router and used an old modem, that seemed to work for about 2 weeks problem free. But after that the internet would just drop when someone would play a online game, stream a big video, or after a random amount of time would drop on its own. The connection icon would loose its globe and have two screens with each screen flashing say identifying. after that we got a new modem and still have the same problem. We have two laptops connected to it and they can connect to the router but not the internet as-well.

I've a Cisco 5550 which hangs on powering up and stays at " Booting System, please wait..." forever and it has a flashing green Status LED.
The steps I've taken so far are:
1. Consoled with a different computer and tried to send the break signals (didn't work)
2. Open up the unit tried to remove the RAM's and reseated them again.
3. Taken out the CMOS battery on the board and replaced it with the new one (no luck still)
What is the next step, or shall I assume that the unit is dead.
