How Can A Computer Handle 1Gbps Internet
Apr 5, 2013I was wondering how this would work if your hard drive can't write at 1Gbps. How exactly would this work? Like mine only goes 35.03MBps which isn't even half a Gb per second.

View 4 RepliesI have the WRT54G v2.2 router. I have Comcast internet service. Comcast has just increased their internet download speed to 50Mbps. With a wired computer (not wireless), connected directly to the router, the fastest internet download speed I get is 30Mbps. When I called Comcast's technical support, they are telling me I need a new router as the older routers can't handle these high internet speeds.

I am unable to connect to the PC to the router at a link speed of 1Gbps. when I go into the properties of the nic card and set it to 1Gbps, it doesn't connect and says the network cable is disconnected. If I choose auto-negotiation, it will only connect at 100Mbps. I have other devices that can connect to the router at 1Gbps just fine. I have tried the latest nic drivers from Asus's site, I tried installing windows 7 64bit from scratch, I reset the router, upgraded the firmware. all my cables are cat6 or better and I even tried removing all other devices from my router. I just can't get it to connect at 1Gbps.

I tried switching to a newer and better motherboard (still with gigabit LAN)I have updated drivers.I have checked cables (which are all cat 6 cables and work just fine with other computers in gigabit LAN mode)I've checked and switched ports on the switch and the switch itself...no change. They work just fine with other non-W2008 machines, they get gigabit LAN
I am completely stomped as to what I can do to fix this. It runs just fine in 100 Mbit mode, but can't in any way get it in gigabit mode.I am completely stomped as to why it refuses...is this a limitation of Windows 2008 or something or is there a fix to this?
i've connected a laptop with "Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC" to a onboard NIC of Asus M4A89TD Pro wich is "Realtek 8111E Gigabit LAN Controller", which both support 1gbps but they will auto-negotiate at 100mbps.

Every time we run extended ping sweep ranging from 36 to 18024 bytes the packets are being dropped randomly once the size goes above 1500 bytes. Our ISP claims Demark to Demark test are clean and they don't want to acknowledge the problem, they blame our switches. To prove the problem is not on our end we've put different switches at each end, still facing the same issue. Ping success rate is around 98 to 99 percent.

My area has recently been having problems with the broadband and Virgin has recently fixed these problems. However I used to get around 19mbps now that the problem is fixed my computer which is wired to the router gets about 0.4mbps downstream... However the 5 wireless computers all get 16mbps which is pretty good for them. Windows tells me that its a firewall issue and I currently can't use two programs, spotify and steam. They both have firewall issues, even if I turn off my firewall which is the windows one. I also have avast, and when I turn that off, still no good. I used OpenDNS, stopped using that flushed my DNS, that didnt work. I tried to optimize my computer settings, by changing various values in Regedit. All of this has done nothing. I should add that I have recently re-installed Windows 7 so on this fresh install it has never had decent internet speed. Which I thought was weird.. I have basically had these problems since the fresh install. All of my drivers are up to date.

I don't do anything fancy with the router, just plain old routing (I have a firewall behind it).
Do you think the 891 can handle 50Mbps up/down, and if not what would you recommend for this new setup of 50x50Mbps.

So a BT home hub is a very cheap router, so it seems. And - if you connect a quite a lot of eq to this router, it starts crashing. "It can't handle the traffic.". But what does that mean? Why can it handle the traffic for a while and after a few days it can't anymore. And lets say - some of the eq doesn't really work on the external network, it works on the internal network, and it doesn't need the internet to work for proper functionality. So - what is important then? Which specifications are the important ones?

Our IPS has given us a second range of IPs as we were running out. Unfortunately, they can only give us two non overlapping range. I am running two ASA 5520 in fail over to handle our traffic but I don't know the best way to use both external ranges. This is not a failover scenario -- and I need outward facing servers on both ranges. It is adventageous to us to keep the two external subnets separating two of our operations so we don't want to bring everything into one subnet (long story).I have one NIC designated outside that will need to cater for both wans. As there are two subnet there are two gateways. How do I keep the traffic on track?

I have forwarded all the necessary ports to the device (and I have even tried DMZ) but the device is unable to connect to some servers due to "NAT issues". The device uses lots of ports simultaneously to connect and I am wondering maybe possibly the router can not handle the number of open ports. The ISP only blocks port 25 which the device does not use. Could it be that the ISP limits the number of ports that are in use? Or maybe the ISP limits the amount of bandwidth that can pass through certain ports?

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is only a small portion of our network but my question is, can these 1841 routers handle a 45Meg connection? I thought these routers were designed for T1/E1 type speeds. I know I saw a router performance document somewhere that showed 1841's could handle 38.4MB of traffic and that is only with routing turned on. If anything else is enabled, like access lists, NetFlow or whatever, that number will decrease because of the capacity of the router. Am I correct in these statements? Any document or anything else that shows performance of these routers?

We have a problem with NLB on a SG500-28P which is a major issue for us.
I am investigating a problem together with Microsoft Support about a download/upload performance issue with a Microsoft Forefront TMG array which is connected to a single SG300-28P. Àpparently this issue exist on every NLB array we implement. I am now at the point we asume the SG500-28P does not handle NLB in unicast mode very well.
We have a network topology as shown below:Please note the actual public IP Addresses are hidden and the internal IP Addresses are diffrent, for security reasons.
Our SG500-28P is configure in L3 mode. It hosts three subnets you see above. The two TMG servers are configured with NLB (in unicast mode) on the Internal Network and External Network interface. It is connected to the internet and our internal network. These TMG Servers are in fact Edge Servers. Our other servers and client are in a different VLAN. The default gateway flows through this NLB Cluster [10.250.0.254].
Problem: When a client uses its default to connect to the internet the performance is very and very slow. With an internet connection of 10/10 we get 10/2. With an internet connection 100/100 we only get 7/1!.
Now we have tried everyting we can imagine. I can't write down all, because that would be a lot. One thing is worth notice; When we move the client to the same VLAN as the NLB Cluster and the client uses 10.250.0.1 as its default gateway, the problem still exists. But... when the client uses 10.250.0.254 as its default gateway the performance is outstanding 95/95! Apparently if traffic for the NLB Cluster is routed through the SG300-28P the performance drops like a rock.
I have never seen this before with SG300 series switches, although this environment is different. Normally I would configure NLB in multicast mode. But the switch does not allow to add static ARP entries for multicast MAC Addresses.I know NLB in unicast mode introduces switch flooding and such. But why does the SG500 not handle this right? Is there anything I can do about it?
I just bought a DCS-2130 for outdoor use (city landscape through my window in the nineteenth floor), and I'm trying to get it work during the daylight, but I'm having some problems. It seems like this camera can't handle direct sunlight, and in these situations the image gets blurry, even when I set the exposure to auto with max of 0dB in setup menu. Simply there's nothing I can do in this options menu to solve this problem. As the day passes by (and the sunlight gets weaker), the image gets better 'til the night, when it's perfect. What I need to know is if there is any way to setup it properly for daylight use. Is there possible to setup these exposure parameteres some other way, like editing an .ini file or something like that? Or this expensive camera simply can't handle this?
