How To Connect A Second PC To Home Internet Connection

Sep 17, 2012

I have Wi-Fi in my house and we able to connect my mom's laptop, her smart phone, and my iPod touch to it, but I just got a used PC from my grandfather and have no clue how to get internet on it.My family already has a PC with a DSL modem and wireless gateway connected to it. We do not have a "router" and the only phone jack in the house has the DSL modem connected to it.From my understanding, the easiest fix is to make my "new" PC Wi-Fi capable, but how do I do it? It is running Windows XP.

No Internet Connection At Home But Can Connect In Different Building

Jan 14, 2013

We had 2 laptops and a pc working through a router with no internet problems. My wife's Toshiba laptop had other problems so IT guy at the college where I teach did a clean install of XP and checked the machine in his office, including internet. No problem. Brought machine home and no internet connection. My laptop works fine on wife's cable to the router. Wife's Toshiba has wireless but cannot establish connection with wire.Another tech guy who lives above us took the laptop up to his place - no connection. Back in the office (different building)- connection. The IT men are baffled. Me too.

Home Network :: DHCP Connection But No Internet?

Aug 23, 2012

I have a Linksys e3200 which was working great until about a week ago. Now any device that connects via DHCP does not have access to the internet, though devices set up with a static IP outside the DHCP range still have full access. The devices connecting via DHCP still have full network access, just not internet access.I tried most of the obvious fixes (reboot, changing the range and lease time for the DHCP) but have at best received a temporary fix.

Home Network :: Sharing An Apartment Internet Connection?

May 29, 2011

I live in an apartment and I am forced to only use the apartment's internet service to go online. There are two ways to access the apartments network; via ethernet port or wifi. Once im connected and try to browse, I will first be taken an http login page to enter my username and password. The problem with this is I can only use the username and password for one computer at a time. Trying to get my second laptop to access the web using the same user and password will give me an error saying it is currently being used. As I have two laptops (work and personal), I would like to share the internet connection using a device that will allow either or both machines to connect simutaneously. What device will I need?

Home Network :: Abnormal Slow Internet Only On Wireless Connection?

Apr 27, 2013

We have been having a very abnormal speed issue. This one has me stumped. I am fed up and thinking maybe its an Att issue that will NEVER be resolved.Brother comes and bothers me Zach internet is slow thinking hes just being picky I tell him to reboot his computer. He says its still slow. I run a speed test from my desktop computer I get a 5.36Mbps download and .63 up. I go to his windows xp professional laptop and run a speed test he pulls .63mbps down and .32 up. This is a Dell Latitude D610 with built in wifi. My desktop just so happens to be a wired connectionI grab my laptop which happens to be the exact same model and experience the same result. So I power cycle to modem, then the Linksys ea2700 router. The speeds go back to 5.37m down and normal speed up. Then after 20 minutes its back to a CRAWL.

OK the router MUST be dead. I will kill two birds with one stone. I plug in my Modem/Router combo 2wire 2700. Speed does the same thing starts off fast then slow to a crawl. Figuring it's a laptop issue I use a Linksys wireless USB adapter AE-2500. I get the same result fast then slow. NOW the crazy thing is that its only on my wireless connections. The wireless computers use wireless G and say 54mbps so why would the internet be slow only on the wireless connection. So maybe it's an interference issue So I start up the generator and plug my modem router and laptop into it. I then shut off THE ENTIRE POWER service to my house! I get the same result fast then slow. My neighbors are far apart and I have switched wireless channels and even used the 5ghz frequency with the same results. An ATT Tech says the line is fine. They came to the house and tested everything. The only thing that has happened recently was a storm which left flooding in some parts of town. Only one time was I able to test my WIRED computer and get a download speed of .04Mbps down and .32 up

Internet Connection Disconnects Intermittently / Home Network Extremely Slow?

Aug 23, 2012

I have been having problems with my Internet the past couple weeks. If I am watching a video, it doesn't matter which site, the video will stop and start from the beginning or the video will just stop altogether and I have to refresh the page. Another problem that happens while browsing, it will take about a minute for a page to load. The computer I am using is wired right into the router.

The rest of the family's computers the apple tv and the roku are wireless. I have been hearing complaints from them and have witnessed the laggyness. While streaming videos on the roku or apple tv, the video will stop and say video is not available or no connection. This is what I get from ipconfig/all

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Dropping Internet Connection In Home Network?

Apr 2, 2012

I have a home network with a Linksys E4200 connected to the ISP's fiber box. The problem is that when I'm connected to the Linksys, either wired or wireless, the connection to the internet will drop after what seems to be a random amount of time (normally anywhere from 2-10 minutes). I can restore the connection by doing any of these things:-reboot Linksys-disconnect and reconnect cable from router to fiber box-if on wireless connection, make changes to the router wifi settings, like change the wifi channel. The internal network stays up, and I can ping both the internal and external ip of the router, but not the fiber box. I have also had the same behavior with an Edimax Wifi AP and less frequently with a Edimax router (once every 1-2 days). I have done everything I can think of:-changed the wifi channels-changed the ip ranges, subnets, turned router DHCP off and back on-booted the fiber box-changed cables-updated all routers to the latest firmware, the network cards with latest drivers...and loads other things that I don't remember right now. For the wifi side of things, there are no other networks in range that could interfere. The same problem occurs on both my and wife's Win 7 laptops and on the iMac (latest OSX). Here's a fun detail: while the Linksys has lost its connection to the internet, I can still access the internet through the old Edimax router connected to the same fiber box, either wired or wireless.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E900 - Share Internet Connection With Rest Of Home Network

Mar 10, 2013

I am currently connecting my PC to a mobile phone as a Wireless Access Point to give that PC access the internet. I also have a small home network, with one other PC and a Game Console. I own a Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router. My problem is this. How do I share that internet connection with the rest of the home network? To the best of my knowledge its not possible to connect my mobile phone directly to my Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router.

So my alternative idea is to connect to the internet via one PC, set up that internet connection as "Shared." and then allow the other devices on the home network to connect thru this. My question is how do I set up my  Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router to allow my other PC and game console connect to the internet? Bridge Mode? PPPoE?

Home Network :: Sharing A Wireless Connection?

Jan 9, 2013

I have a PC that connects to a wireless connection. I would like to share this connection with MORE THAN ONE PC. I have read it is possible to share it with ONE other PC via a crossover cable.I would like to share this to a router so that the PCs connected to the router can use this connection. Is this possible? If so, what would I need?(Other than a crossover cable and router)Side note: I'll be sharing this connection to a wireless router - so I'm hoping to basically relay the connection that way.I know it is possible to buy extenders that extend the range of wireless connections, but this is where the restrictions come into play...-We are not able to network these computers on the wireless network, as we do not manage it and have some quite strict privileges.-The router will also be used to share a hard drive via USB.

How To Print To Home Printer When On Road Via A Web Connection

Aug 17, 2011

Internet printing makes it possible for client computers running Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 (SP1) to use printers located anywhere in the world by sending print jobs using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).Additionally, computers running Windows XP can use Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) or a Web peer server to create a Web page that provides information about printers and provides the transport for printing over the Internet. We have a small network with 2 printers. (Brother hl5370) and everything on the network works well. I even have one of the printers setup wirelessly and it's printing fine. But I go on the road and generate orders. I need to be able to print the invoices at the warehouse where one of the printers is located so the invoice gets shipped immediately instead of me waiting to get home, print the invoice and pkging slip and then ship it.

I almost always have net access via the hotel's internet or my cell phone, so that's not the problem. I just need to install a printer on my laptop that when I print to it, it sends the document thru the net to the home network and prints to one of the printers.I installed the above mentioned ISS, but have no idea how to use it. Yes, my IP is dynamic, but it never changes unless I reboot the modem so I'm probably okay. And I know there are services out there that can email me my IP so that should not be a problem.
