View 2 RepliesI'm not that great at networking, I'm pretty much a novice but I'm trying to connect a modem and router to my computer but get around bridging the modem if possible. You see, I am working with AT&T and their dsl modem access page only works for me if the modem is unbridged. If I bridge the modem, I cannot get on the page again to unbridge it while I am trying to hook up my router. When I need them to unbridge the modem, I have to stay on hold for hours. One guy even told me that he did unbridge the modem, but since my internet persisted not to work, he told me my ethernet card went bad of a sudden on my computer. I knew this was incorrect so after a few more hours on hold, I had a lady debate with me that she was not unbridging my modem since it was my ethernet card that was bad and not the bridging. Finally, laughing to herself, she unbridged the modem for me and it worked
Here is what I have: My modem is a Motorola 2210 Style: MSTATEA My router is a Linksys WRT120N
As of right now, I just have a LAN with my modem plugged in through an ethernet cord to my PC. Is there a way of me hooking up my Linksys router to my modem and PC without bridging the modem? If so, where can I find out instructions for this?
My problem is I bought a 3.75G Modem (E353 USB Modem) from Optus the other day, and I have an old D-Link (DI-624) router I trying to hook it up to. And the thing is I am not sure to how? have the USB device plugged into a USB port and it works so far, I have an Ethernet cable going out of my 1 of 2 LAN ports my motherboard has in to the first LAN port on the router not the WAN port, as stated by other forums. This is as far as I've gone with this. I am going to buy a new router in the future , but I'd like to figure how to make it work first. Also are there any products I can buy to make it easer

I wondered if it's possible to plug it into the wired hub ( I have in my basement where the wireless is somewhat weak) to get the signal a bit stronger down here?I guess the operative terminology is 'wireless access point' I've found some instructions but they all say to connect the access point directly to the gateway via cat-5.. hoping I can do so with a hub. If not.. could I just switch the hub and the access point in the setup?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got internet and cable at my apartment the other day. My roommate and I got Cox Cable and my roommate had a used Linksys router to connect to the modem. I'm not sure how the Linksys was set up (I'll get that information soon), but the internet worked for her without her having to connect her laptop to the router. When I tried to use the wifi, I was never able to connect properly. It would say that I was connected to the router, but that I wasn't able to use the internet. Then I tried to connect the laptop to the Linksys router with a ethernet cable and the internet worked. Also, after I unplug the ethernet I am able to use the internet, but the connection goes out every so often. I also wanted to use my PS3 with the wifi, but at this point I doubt it will work unless I find some solution. As for specs, the Linksys is a Model # BEFW11S4 ver. 4. Oh, and now my roommate is having the same problems now.[CODE]
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless modem/router combo right now provided to me by Centrylink, its the Q1000. I am trying to hook up a 2nd router to our network to extend range and allow extra ethernet connections points. The new (2nd) Router is a Linksys E1200. I have been told by multiple sources it should be possible to hook the Linksy's router to the modem/router, but I am still not sure how to. All of the directions I have read involve disconnecting the old router (in my case, the Q1000) and then connecting the new router (E1200) in order to configure it. But I am not sure how to do this with out the internet access provided by the old router. how to cascade like this while using a modem/router

View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm sure that the modem/router is bridged which I think it means that it is sent to pass through the port number requests. What I did was go into my Linksys router, setup the port I want to forward to my 3389 (RDP port on the specific machine). Let's say port 45000. In the past, before Windstream took over and I had DSL with a local Telco, I would just enter my IP address and port number and I was in to the machine. Example: 171.234.54.191:45000 That would be the IP address of my modem (which just passed though the requests) to the router. Now when I do the same thing I just get an error message that looks like this: It seems that the modem/router is not passing though the request to the router. This is why I didn't want their new router/modem which the HAVE to charge $120 for worse quality machine than what I already had.
