Jul 31, 2012We're planning to ope a coffee house for teens at my church. We want the internet to be accessible to them but want to restrict what sites they can access so homework, games, etc. can be accessed but not the stuff rated for violent, rrisky behaviors.

Feb 27, 2011I have a laptop with 2 user account (one for me - administrator and the other for my eleven year old son). Connection is wireless. Until a few months ago everything was working fine and then the problems started: my son could no longer connect on the internet with Explorer and Google Chrome but I managed to connect it via Firefox. And it worked until yesterday. As of yesterday he can no longer connect to the internet even with Firefox. I tried again as an administrator to reinstall Google Chrome, but the icon is shown only on my user account. I took a completely new browser - Opera, but fails to connect. When I go to Diagnose & Repair connection problems - shows no problems. On my account everything is working properly. OS is Windows Vista Home Premium

Aug 2, 2011While I was at school there was a system in place where by you had to enter a user name and password to access the internet. Every student had a data limit like 3GB per month for example. I remember it had something to do with a proxy. I would like to recreate this system on my office LAN as some staff members have been downloading a lot slowing down the (very expensive) Internet connection. Limiting each users data will discourage large downloads.

Jan 13, 2012We had a power outage that kicked off our server and our network switch (2008R2, Cisco2960), before we could get it back up, a user was able to log into his laptop.
The user used the domain login - not the local machine account - he obviously wasn't able to access any shared resources, but how did he log in with a domain account, when the server and switch were both off?

Apr 18, 2011I have setup ACS 5.2 in my lab and have it completely funcation with Downloadable ACLs, Dynamic VLANs and the identity store on the backend is Active Directory. I need it to lock a user account in AD if there are to many auth attempts. I have gone into AD and set a max login attempts to 3 but if I continue to fail authentication (on purpose) using radius auth, it never locks out my AD account? I am using the Anyconnect 3.0 with NAM as the supplicant installed on my workstation. I have also configured the switchport that I am connect to with the following commands. I tried the dot1x max-reauth-req 3 command and that didn't really do anything for me either. What am I missing here?

May 28, 2011got myself the Netgear internal PCI wifi adapter today & it works just fine on my Windows XP SP3 desktop.
The only problem I have is the question of restricting access to kids @ home. If it was an external USB adapter, I could have just taken it away but the concern is the device being an internal & always available one. The user configuration on the PC is such that there is 1 main administrator (The actual windows "administrator" account) that no one uses. Apart from that,
- 1 user with admin privileges (me)
- 1 limited account for the kid
- 1 admin privilege account for the kid again (for purposes like installation of games which require an admin account as mandatory)
I would like for the wifi PCI card to work only when I login to my account. There must be someway by which I could disable the device or make the internet inaccesible in the other accounts,, (but pls bear that 1 of the account that the kid uses also has admin privilege)
I tried disabling the device from control panel but in vain.. (tried something like the sys admins do in corporates ..) disabling the usb ports on the PC's in my office..!

Dec 10, 2011We are setting up a network with some restrictions for the attached clients.We're quite new at setting up a network at this size.
Used devices:
1x SRP 540 router
1x SG 300-10P managed switch
4x AP 541N accesspoint
What we want to do:
1. Around 100 laptops and desktop computers need wireless internet access, but some of them on limited times during the day.
2. Not all wireless devices are allowed on using the wireless network.
3. There are also wired desktops that don't need restrictions.
4. We need the possibility to restrict most of the wireless devices to access certain websites or use certain applications on those computers to use internet access during the times that the computers are allowed to access the internet.
5. We want to restrict the clients for using torrents or other possibilities of downloading illegal content.
What we were able to do:
1. The accesspoints (AP 541N) are clustered to achieve 1 large wireless network.
2. Only mac-adresses that are listed in the accesspoints are capable of using the wireless network. Other mac-adresses are not allowed to use the accesspoints.
What we tried already:
1. adding the mac-adresses for the accesspoints to the list of "internet access policy" in the router. Internet access seemed still possible during periods the access wasn't supposed to be possible.
2. adding the mac-adresses from all clients in this internet access policy seemed useless. Only 10 Internet Access Policies seem to be possible to program. 8 mac-adresses per policy. Knowing there are (at least) two policies needed to restrict a group of 8 macs to access the internet in 24 hours (because blocking the internet from f.e. 22u in the evening to 6 in the morning is not possible because 6 is smaller than 22 - or 10PM).Besides, after blocking internet access, we need also to write policies in blocking some websites or keywords.

Oct 10, 2008I am having problems with my RV042.I have a Intervoip(url...) account for VOIP.
When I try to register the intervoip account to the internet I don't get any kind of reply. My VOIP server just keeps requesting to register the SIP account, but gets no reply.
When I connect an other router to my ISP modem, the register just goes fine. However the RV042 blocks something I don't really know what the cause could be.I installed wireshark to monitor my network traffic.
When I monitor registering with intervoip with the RV042, I see requests but no replies from intervoip, the VOIP server keeps requesting, but doesn't get any reply.
When I monitor registering with intervoip with an other router, I see requests from the VOIP server, and replies from intervoip initiating my intervoip account and everything goes well and registers. The following I tried:
- Forwarding port 5060 to private ip
- Putting private ip in DMZ
- Disabled the firewall
All without result. (Also tried them all at once)
