I have 2 mbps line with D-link modem shared by 2 persons through wire. Sometime I feel that my client is using more band width than me so I want to know is there is any way I can control the speed of my client.

I can connect to the router just fine but it does not connect to the internet whether it be a wired or wireless connection. I have recently reset the router and haven't changed any settings besides the password. The only problem I have is the question of restricting access to kids @ home. If it was an external USB adapter, I could have just taken it away but the concern is the device being an internal & always available one. The user configuration on the PC is such that there is 1 main administrator (The actual windows "administrator" account) that no one uses. Apart from that,
- 1 user with admin privileges (me)
- 1 limited account for the kid
- 1 admin privilege account for the kid again (for purposes like installation of games which require an admin account as mandatory)
I would like for the wifi PCI card to work only when I login to my account. There must be someway by which I could disable the device or make the internet inaccesible in the other accounts,, (but pls bear that 1 of the account that the kid uses also has admin privilege)
I tried disabling the device from control panel but in vain.. (tried something like the sys admins do in corporates ..) disabling the usb ports on the PC's in my office..!
We're planning to ope a coffee house for teens at my church. We want the internet to be accessible to them but want to restrict what sites they can access so homework, games, etc. can be accessed but not the stuff rated for violent, rrisky behaviors.

I know that this can be done with an additional RADIUS/TACACS+ Server. Is this also possible without any external AAA Server, so with User/PW stored on the ASA locally only?
We are setting up a network with some restrictions for the attached clients.We're quite new at setting up a network at this size.
Used devices:
1x SRP 540 router
1x SG 300-10P managed switch
4x AP 541N accesspoint
What we want to do:
1. Around 100 laptops and desktop computers need wireless internet access, but some of them on limited times during the day.
2. Not all wireless devices are allowed on using the wireless network.
3. There are also wired desktops that don't need restrictions.
4. We need the possibility to restrict most of the wireless devices to access certain websites or use certain applications on those computers to use internet access during the times that the computers are allowed to access the internet.
5. We want to restrict the clients for using torrents or other possibilities of downloading illegal content.
What we were able to do:
1. The accesspoints (AP 541N) are clustered to achieve 1 large wireless network.
2. Only mac-adresses that are listed in the accesspoints are capable of using the wireless network. Other mac-adresses are not allowed to use the accesspoints.
What we tried already:
1. adding the mac-adresses for the accesspoints to the list of "internet access policy" in the router. Internet access seemed still possible during periods the access wasn't supposed to be possible.
2. adding the mac-adresses from all clients in this internet access policy seemed useless. Only 10 Internet Access Policies seem to be possible to program. 8 mac-adresses per policy. Knowing there are (at least) two policies needed to restrict a group of 8 macs to access the internet in 24 hours (because blocking the internet from f.e. 22u in the evening to 6 in the morning is not possible because 6 is smaller than 22 - or 10PM).Besides, after blocking internet access, we need also to write policies in blocking some websites or keywords.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dlink DIR 615 , I can never get it to manage the time correctly, even without any down time the time always goes off by hours or days. I tried using an NTP server option... 3.ca.pool.ntp.org but it doesn't work.... so I am not able to schedule the internet effectively router that they have that keeps the time and allows them to control the Internet access that would be good. My kids are teenagers so sometimes it is like talking to a wall trying to get them to control their internet, I can easily block them entirely as I have Mac filtering set, and I will do this, but I would like to not have to constantly check to see if they are online which is easily done with Ipods.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using the WRT54G2 connected to a cable modem that requires a PPPoE login. I followed the Service Providers instructions and cloned the modems MAC address to the WRT54G and setup the PPPoE user id and password. I can then plug my PC into one of the Ethernet connections on the back of the WRT54G and everything works as expected. First I connect to the WRT54G2 and then I open a PPPoE connection in my network settings and it logs into the service provider and everything works as expected. But when I connect to the WRT5G2 wirelessly I connect to the AP fine. When I open the same PPPoE connection to the service provider it fails, the message says I have the wrong userid or password or that the protocol is not supported. Of course I know the userid and password is correct because it works when connected with Ethernet cable. I have tried disabling the security on the wireless network but that did not seem to work.The modem is a HomePNA HCNA Voice Endpoint.I am at the latest firmware 1.0.04.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Westell 2110 wired DSL modem for Frontier (formerly Verizon). It's not a modem that has a web interface, so I can't log into it to change any settings. It also, to my knowledge, has no bridge mode (which is a term I know very little about). I had an old D-Link WBR2310 router, and since I knew the wireless and the phones ran on the same frequency, I bought a new Linksys e1200 router. Unfortunately, when I went through the setup of the router, while I know I have a solid internet connection from the modem (I'm hard wired in as I type), and while I can connect to the router, I am unable to connect to the internet. I took down my IP address, DNS servers, subnet mask, and default gateway, and set up the router to run under a Static IP, which it does phenomenally. Unfortunately, when the ISP (via direct line or my modem) changes the IP address after a few hours, my connection drops and I have to go reset up the connection via a hard wire, taking down the information, etc. Why is this the only way I can set up my connection? What could I be doing that I'm not to get it running DHCP correctly? It worked on my WBR 2310.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dlink dir-600 router I flashed it with dd-wrt it was was working good but I started experiencing some problems so I decided to flash it with the stock firmware and I did so later on after a week the Ethernet ports on the router stopped working I thought the router was bricked but I was able to connect wirelessly and could access the Internet and I was even able to change the settings of the router by going to 192.168.0.1 all was fine but all the ethernet ports stopped working so I thought it was the problem of the stock frimware and I again flashed it with dd-wrt but still all the Ethernet ports won't work I can only connect the computers wirelessly.

There is few situations to describe the problem :
1. If I connect my computer directly to the modem I can access to the internet. (modem --> computer = internet OK)
2. If i connect the ethernet cable (in the wall) between my modem and RJ45 jack in the living room and connect my computer directly to the RJ45 I can access to the internet. (modem --> cat6 cable in the wall --> computer = internet ok)
3. If I connect my router directly (without the cat6 cable in the wall) to the modem and my computer to the the router I can access to the internet. (modem --> router --> computer = internet ok)
4. If i connect the ethernet cable (in the wall) between my modem and RJ45 jack in the living room and connect to router to the RJ45 and my computer to the router I CANNOT access to the internet. (modem --> cat6 cable in the wall --> router --> computer = internet access problem)
5. If i connect the ethernet cable (in the wall) between my modem and RJ45 jack in the living room and connect to a swith to the RJ45 and my computer to the switch I can access to the internet. (modem --> cat6 cable in the wall --> switch --> computer = internet OK)
With those tests I am not able to figured out what is the problem... router is working in situation #3. cable in the wall is ok in situations #2 and 5. How to make my router working when connected to the RJ45 jack in the living room.
There is my component :

Switch --> Trendnet TE100-S5
Modem --> Thomson DCM475
Cable in the wall --> Homemade with 568A standard in both end.

Is this possible, I can only seem to do local users in local groups and AD users in AD groups.Many people have access to AD so I don't want anyone to be able to move users in and out of AD groups and get access to equipment.

The internet would intermittently not be available, without warning. First couple of times we power cycled the modem and router, and it worked, but then stopped being available altogether. I got some support from RCN, the cable provider (they own the modem and it's old, so naturally that was my first thought). I now have a new modem and the situation is exactly the same. The error message that I get is that the IP address for the network cannot be found.
I got internet access by bypassing the router, connecting the modem directly to my (Windows XP) PC, releasing and renewing the IP address, and power cycling the modem. However, the internet still intermittently shuts down, and of course turning off the computer necessitates the whole procedure again. And now we have no wireless. Should we assume it's the router, and a new one would solve our problem? Of do we just need to reset the IP address of the router?
my dlink dsl-520b dls modem is using 192.168.1.1 and is plugged into the WAN port on my dlink wireless router.the wireless router is 192.168.0.1. (these are both in the main building which is remote from my shop).Then i have a netgear wireless access point This spreads the signal properly, and I can get connectivity on all my computers -although i do have to specify a default route on the computers on my shop side of the access point.I noticed that the internet light on my modem is red which indicates no internet connection. I am still able to access the internet fine, but i would like to be able to log into the modem from my network. I was able to do this before by setting a computer with a netmask of 255.255.0.0.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had a D-link N750 DB running smoothly for about a year now. Suddenly the other day, for no apparent reason, it dropped its connection to the modem and refuses to acknowledge it anymore. The router still broadcasts the network ESSID and accepts external connections.
First, the cable modem appears to work just fine, as I'm able to hard wire with a laptop and get consistent internet service. Second, when in the router settings, the ethernet connection status reads not detected, so it seems to me that the router hardware has no idea its got anything plugged into it.
I've tried the standard power cycling methods in various orders about a dozen times. I've replaced cables and done a hard reset of router settings. No dice.
I have a DLink D604T wireless modem. It has been working fine for the past 5 years but today the connection to my netbook computer kept dropping out.I can fix it temporarily by going into Network Connections, right clicking the modem, selecting wireless networks, clicking the modem, going to properties and retyping the network password. I then have to set the firewal to advanced connection settings and typing in my family network password, and changing the Windows firewall settings from On to Off.However, the connection drops out again after just a few minutes. If I then turn the firewall back on, it comes back on again for 5 minutes, but then drops out again. Then I have to repeat the whole process.
