How To Use Two Dynamic IP's
Mar 8, 2013
My ISP provides two dynamic IP addresses. I have two computers that I want to each have a separate IP. I was told by the ISP, by two different CSR's, that I need a Desktop switch in addition to my Linksys WRT400 router. I purchased the D-Link 8-Port Gigabit Desktop switch and connected everything correctly. Although the internet works on both machines, they are still showing the same IP address. How do I allocate a separate dynamic IP to each machine?

Okay so I currently have an ISP that offers the standard "2 Dynamic IP's" and I'm wondering how to utilize this? The tech guy said I need a HUB...but I'm not sure what kind and where to get one etc. Secondly, even if I am able to get this second IP going, will they be entirely separate IP addresses? I need the IP addresses to be completely separate and untraceable to the same source. Is this the case or can you somehow trace back the two dynamic IP's to the same source IP? Will I need two different static IP's if I want the two connections to be entirely separate, unrelated, and untraceable from each other?

I Have a D-Link 364M, and a dynamic IP. But I've had this IP for over 2 years now and it does not changeCalled the ISP, they said it's a router issue and I need to contact D-LInk. D-Link says they do not cover my router anymore so I can't get support. Unplugging the router for 24 hours did nothing So I assume the problem is some internal setting on the router website that is doing this.

I am using Charter and have been at this location for several year. All was well until they added one of those "walled gardens" like Comcast uses. When the cable modem comes on, and the wireless router is turned on, the router has trouble getting it's dynamic IP from the network. If I plug my workstation directly into the cable modem - bingo - IP comes very quickly every time.I have tried multiple cable modems and multiple wireless routers. I use MAC cloning otherwise Charter doesn't give an IP ever. I have tried using both Unicast and Multicast for getting the IP but, it seems like the routers request/respond to DHCP differently than a Windows PC (Vista and 7) does. If a computer and router use DHCP differently? It is weird because when there is a power outage things generally come back on without a hitch. Though if I unplug/plug the devices manually it takes me half an hour or more to get an IP most times.

I'm trying to set my PC to have a Static IP but I'm having no luck. I've got it working before and was able to forward ports, but that was with my old PC.My problem is when I go into my wireless properties and change the TCP/IP settings from find automatically to custom settings, it says I need to reboot my PC. I do that but no matter what I do the settings are back to default, automatic settings when I reboot. The only difference between this new PC and the old one is that this one is using an SSD for my OS and a normal HDD for my Data.

I've got a new 891 to replace an old 837 and I'm struggling to get the dynamic nat pool working.I've successfully configured the dialer etc for PPPoE and when I set up a static NAT translation between my PC and an external address then I can ping hosts on the internet e.g. ping 8.8.8.8 successfully. But when I remove the static translation and try and use the dynamic NAT pool then no NAT translations take place, and show ip nat translations only shows the other static entries. The relevant bits of the config are below and I've also attached a full (cleaned) config.
ip nat pool TestPool 81.2.123.226 81.2.123.226 netmask 255.255.255.248
ip nat inside source list 15 pool TestPool overload
! Can only access internet when static route is defined for my PC
! If I remove this line then it doesn't use the dymnamic pool TestPool
ip nat inside source static 172.16.0.11 81.2.123.226
[code]....

If this is the wrong thread for this pasted config, I am sorry. Let me know and I will delete it and move it else where. I just cannot seem to connect my Cisco 2651xm router to the internet from my PC. Here is the output of my config. I have Cox Cable Internet and my IP address is Dynamic but it has lukily stayed "static" if you will since I can remember am plugging in my laptop via straight-through to 2950 switch port fa0/2 and fa0/1 is connected via staright through calbe to router fa0/0. I told my PC to "obtain IP address automatically" since I made my router a DHCP server, but still no internet. I can however, ping the ISP 24.253.136.243, my default-gatewat on the router, 192.168.0.1, and I made a the vative vlan 192.168.0.2 and I can ping all interfaces fine and packets are being sent and received[CODE]

I am on the lookout for free dynamic DNS for top level domain name. There seem to be quite a few free dynamic DNS providers for third level domain but I am having trouble finding one for top level domain. I am almost on the verge of actually mapping the top level domain to a CNAME of a third level domain with dynamic DNS but I really don't want to do that.

I have a home server that I'm using to host a site with a domain purchased from Go Daddy. I understand how to set up a static IP address on Win Server 2008, but my provider will not allow for me to purchase a static IP because I'm a home customer, not a business. My question is this: should I just ipconfig my ip address every seven days and then change my server's address? Is there a software alternative? Is it necessary for me to change it at all?

Everything I try to set up the static IP it gives me the message: "to avoid a conflict with your internet service provider your router's ip address has been updated to..." with a different IP address. When I update the static IP, it changes the IP again

I have the dir-601 as my main router. Its IP settings are dynamic, not static. My second router, the router I'd like to use as the access point is a Belkin Wireless G Mimo. My goal is to setup the Belkin as an access point downstairs away from the main router. I'd like to do this wirelessly. I'd like to phsycialy plug devices into the Belkin, while the Belkin receives access to the internet wirelessly from my main router, the dir-601.
Here's my issue. There's an easy option to use the Belkin as an access point. So I do this and set the Belkin router to an IP outside the DCHP range ( currently 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199 ) to 192.168.0.250. My dir-601 will only recognize the Belkin access point while plugged in physically. I know this because when I did a ping test it only see's the Belkin when plugged into the dir-601 via ethernet cables. My ultimate goal is to simply set the dlink dir-601 to recognize the Belkin as an access point.
