Home Network :: No Internet Via Dynamic IP?
Feb 16, 2011
If this is the wrong thread for this pasted config, I am sorry. Let me know and I will delete it and move it else where. I just cannot seem to connect my Cisco 2651xm router to the internet from my PC. Here is the output of my config. I have Cox Cable Internet and my IP address is Dynamic but it has lukily stayed "static" if you will since I can remember am plugging in my laptop via straight-through to 2950 switch port fa0/2 and fa0/1 is connected via staright through calbe to router fa0/0. I told my PC to "obtain IP address automatically" since I made my router a DHCP server, but still no internet. I can however, ping the ISP 24.253.136.243, my default-gatewat on the router, 192.168.0.1, and I made a the vative vlan 192.168.0.2 and I can ping all interfaces fine and packets are being sent and received[CODE]

I am wondering if there is any way to get the name and last name of the person that has the internet connection corresponding to a particular dynamic IP address that I know, that was used to send an email at a particular date and time that I also know.

I need to create a VPN tunnel between two offices of the same company. I bought two Zyxel P-661HW-D to create the secure VPN tunnel but the problem is that the two offices has a ADSL connection with dynamic IP. Is possible, with this router, to use a DDNS service to create the VPN tunnel or it' s required to have static IP ?

I am on the lookout for free dynamic DNS for top level domain name such as example.com
There seem to be quite a few free dynamic DNS providers for third level domain but I am having trouble finding one for top level domain. I am almost on the verge of actually mapping the top level domain to a CNAME of a third level domain with dynamic DNS but I really don't want to do that.

I have a high speed wireless DSL router from my ISP (Telus). I use one port off the router to connect directly to my desktop computer. Another port is connected to a switch to which ethernet cables to three other rooms are connected. My problem is that when I connect my Bell PVR (9242) to the 'switched' ethernet cable, I'm apparently not able to get a dynamic ip address, which the Bell unit requires, and can't connect to the network.can I connect another router, in place of the switch, to deliver dynamic IP addresses to whatever I connect to the ports in the other rooms in my house?

I am working with MS Windows 2008 R2 and a Belkin F5D8635-4v1 router.
I have already set up a dynamic IP address which points to my router at home. In my home network I have multiple PC's that I would like to access from the internet. I would like to achieve this without needing to change my port forwarding rules on my router each time...
My thoughts are that I use a single dynamic IP address pointed to my router. My router then forwards to a server with some sort of software that can then forward to the correct PC based on the host name.
So I have 3 domains set up all pointing to the router's IP address:
dest1.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
dest2.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
dest3.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
The router is not smart enough to redirect by host name, so it will just forward everything to 10.0.0.20 The server based at 10.0.0.20 must then have software to now redetermine the target based on the host name. The rules would be set up as follows:
dest1.domain.com -> 10.0.0.22
dest2.domain.com -> 10.0.0.24
dest3.domain.com -> 10.0.0.26

I have been using a laptop to stream videos through my xbox for over 2years until recently. I setup a wireless network in the house to do this. All was fine until 3 days ago.I use a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7. I have a Dell Wireless 1397 Minicard, a cisco router (model #2425). Since my laptop was infected by Malware, my network has not worked since. I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti Malware to get rid of it and it appeared to work. I got internet access back. However, I still cannot connect to my network (visible in the Available Network list as normal) or stream any media.Windows Media Centre also has stopped opening and gives me the small box saying 'windows is checking for a solution', then closes with nothing. I can however open WMC if I right click and 'run as administrator'?! I have disabled all other network adaptors, only the Dell minicad is enabled and also tried disabling and enabling this main one with no effect. All problems point to the fact that my laptop can no longer connect to the home network but I cant figure out why?!Another (possibly unrelated) problem is occuring at boot up where I get an error message saying 'Bluetooth Software License not found. [2]' - Again this never happened before the Malware infection.

I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc).The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:
- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface
Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range.That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.
- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.
- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.
Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.
Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)
Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).

I have one lan with several PC's and static IPs 192.168.0.x 255.255.255.0 and 2 routers. One is 192.168.0.1 and the oter 192.168.0.11. I want every PC gets internet from gateway 192.168.0.11 and the other connection is set with static public IP for incoming Terminal Server Clients. The router for that connection, 192.168.0.1 has NAT setup for several ports which redirect traffic to 3 different computers. But the traffic is not redirected while those PC have the first gateway for internet (.11). To keep NAT working these 3 PC get internet from 192.168.0.1 but I don't want any computer to go out through that router.
What can I do to give internet through router .11 and send traffic to 3 of them from the other router .1 from internet to the lan?

I'll try and explain this the best that I can. I'm currently running a Sony Vaio VGN-NW270F laptop with Windows 7. I'm using a WRT54G2 v1.5 router for my internet connection. Last Wednesday, I tried to go online, but my wireless connection for my home network came up as "limited connectivity", even though there was a 5-bar signal strength. Since then, it has identified and connected to my home network, but displays "no internet". On startup, however, it connects, but then promptly disconnects, and I experience the same issue. I can go online using my parents' laptop, my 3DS, and my Wii, so I assume it's an issue with my computer rather than my router.
Additionally, I have tried using an ethernet cord to go directly into my computer - no luck.I have also done 2 system restores to late May - still no luck.I have uninstalled/reinstalled the necessary drivers - no luck.The only thing out of the ordinary that may have contributed to this situation is that on the day when I started having this problem, a notification saying that my parents' computer's IP address was the same as another on the same network. I have NO idea what that means, nor do I know how it happened, or how to resolve it, if needed

My laptop is able to connect to the wireless router in my home, but the browser will never load a page, status is shown "connected". However, when I try on other laptops, they are able to surf the net. I have tried using my laptop at my friend's place with a different wireless router and it works at his place as I was able to surf the internet through my wireless! So, I've tried resetting my personal modem to factory default and it still doesn't work!

Recently we ordered a new Modem from Centurylink to replace an old one we have. (which ironically the old one's wireless is way better) Both modems work perfectly fine, and I've tried the same things with both to figure this out. I ran an ethernet to my gaming room, which is about 150 feet. When I connect my computer directly into the modem, my computer works fine. Initially, the PS3 worked, but when I switched back to the computer with the single Ethernet cable, I was getting an IP error. Every since then, the PS3 will not connect through Ethernet. (Wireless works, but its so far away the signal is weak)
So, I dug up my router, Linksys WRT54GL, plugged it into the ethernet that came from the Modem, (did all the steps in order multiple times), and no internet through wifi or ethernet on it. The lights and everything say there is ethernet and the WIFI/Ethernet are working, but there is no internet. All the wires are confirmed fine. I've tested them on other devices plugged directly into the modem. I tried the PS3 at the modem with 3 Ethernet cords as a test, It says there is an IP Address timeout error. Regardless of what I do, the PS3 won't connect via Ethernet. And without internet working on the Linksys router, Im getting about 15-25% signal from the Modem. (which is also wireless, if that has anything to do with the issue)
I need the router to do at the very least, WIFI. I really want Ethernet though so I don't lose much speed. (We are maxed out here at 1.5mb connection from Centurylink)
When it comes to computers, I'm advanced with them. When it comes to networking, I'm okay. I understand basic things, like accessing the router or modem through the browser. I can do the whole setup for WIFI. But when it comes to how the IP address, Static IP, etc., goes, im confused by them. So forgive me if I sound ignorant. I've looked for over a week on sites, and nothing is working. The router may be broken, im not sure. I bought it a few years ago and then didn't need it till recently. So its been sitting in a box.
All I know is, I have an ethernet from the modem to this room, the PS3 refuses to get an IP, and if I do it too much the PC gets an IP conflict. If I plug the Ethernet into the internet part of the router and do wireless or Ethernet, there is no internet coming out.

Currently I'm living in a dorm. The house has wireless network. But WEP encryption is used to secure it. I know this method is not safe. Also since there are many people are living in the house i don't want my computers be connected to this network.What i want to do is to setup my own network. I bought a NetGear DGND3300 router. I setup a WPA2 protected wireless network. I can connect all my devices to this network but naturally this way i have no Internet access.Is there a way to use Internet access of the house's router but still keep my local traffic not seen by anybody else

I'm a member of a club and we have just got BT Business Broadband with BT Business Hub 3. The club has one WiFi laptop which will occasionally access the BT Hub 3 using WiFi for internet use only. So essentially we have no network as such, just the BT Hub and a laptop.I would like to allow some club members to have internet access (WPA2 password), but without allowing access to the club laptop in any wayAs I said previously, the club laptop will only be active occasionally, so actual exposure is limited, but ideally I would like for the club laptop to be invisible to others when it is connected. I would also like each members equipment to be hidden from each other, so nobody can access each others data etc.. Can I achieve this simply? If so, do I need extra equipment?
I do have some donated equipment available: Netgear WAG102 Wireless Access Point, D-Link DSL-2640R Broadband Wireless G ADSL2+ Router and US Robotics 9106 SureConnect ADSL Wireless Gateway. Could I use any or all of these?I know this donated equipment is only Wireless G, but speed for the members is not important as they will only use internet access for emails and occasional google searches etc.I've tested the WAG102 at home, by plugging it into a LAN port of my BT HomeHub3 and giving it a different SSID, which works OK, but I can still see the other equipment connected wirelessly to my BT HomeHub3, although I cannot access my home laptop etc. because they are password protected.

Orange sent me a replacement Netgear DNG1000 and from the moment I had it there was issues, if N mode was enabled and I had to set it to B/G only for it to have a stable connection, not a problem as I only use it for the internet. The range on it was roughly the same as the livebox. For a few weeks it worked fine until recently it started to go insane, on the main computer the wifi works most of the time with 80%-95% signal strength, and then every now and then it will suddenly lose communication with the router but act as if it was connected for 5-10 minutes, signal strength is still at about 90% yet I can't access the router or the internet. Wifi works fine at full speed on the stairs, drops to a few bytes per second on the landing and then increases back up to full speed in the room next to it. In the one bedroom the wifi works up until the door where it instantly drops from full speed to a few bytes a second. This drop off point is only a few cms, as in full speed at one place, move it back a few cm and it slows down loads, but I still get 4-5 bars on windows and -50 RSSI on inSSIDer, about 94% strength and a link quality which tends to fluctuate. What could be causing this, specifically the weird instant deadzones and randomly not responding.

I have a home wi-fi network that connects through a router/modem to the Internet. There are three up-to-date Windows Vista (Home edition, I think) laptops on the network all of which connect wirelessly to the router/modem. The network is password protected (for security purposes I turn off network discovery. And I don't use file sharing between the laptops). In other words, I have three laptops connected to a common wireless Internet connection (the router/modem). I also have a desktop computer (that I use for projects and gaming), but I don't have a wireless network adapter nor a long enough ethernet cable to connect to the router. I don't have any technical problems connecting to the Internet using a crossover ethernet cable. It's just impractical as I have to dismantle the whole desktop computer system (printer, monitor, scanner, etc etc) and carry it to a different room within cable distance of the router every time I need to update the software or activate a new application.

We have tested the cable (using a cable tester) and the cable seems to work fine. When I use back the old cable (which is very short) internet is working perfect.
