View 4 RepliesI accidentally deleted my wireless adapter, so i re installed it in device manager, and now i can't connect to anything except my router, when i check internet options, it tells me that i'm connected to the internet. I can go on the internet on this other laptop and desktop computers, xbox and whatever else, just not the other laptop (it's an hp pavillion dv6000 btw)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing the same problems except different setup. I use avg and spybot as my security. The problem is that I cannot use any browser be it firefox or chrome or IE. I can't even update my avg or spybot. I can type in my router and get that. I have a laptop, which I am using now, that is working fine with the internet. Even my 360 is able to connect so I can watch netflix.I have "flushed" the connection, I have used winsock, and macshift. I'm running AVG and Spybot with spybot coming back clean but I have a gut feeling it won't work.I have run sfc /scannow and there is some files missing. I inserted my original disk into the cd-rom and refuses to detect the cd after so many tries. I reset the router and computer several times. I tried running sfc /scannow in safe mode but didn't run[CODE]

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 PC's on a LAN, both Windows 7 Ultimate. Both PC's is connected to the same router via ethernet. Now PC number two has internet access and works great, but PC number 1 also shows "Internet Access" in the system tray and also in the network map, it shows that it is connected to the internet. But when I open ANY browser(FF, IE, Chrome) it cannot connect to the internet. Skype also cannot connect. As I said, the other PC (PC2) can connect fine and has the exact same setup as PC1. However, on PC1, when I manually connect via a dial-up broadband connection using the SAME username and password to my ISP as I used in the router config, it connects. The problem is that it loses the connection every 2 minutes or so...(failed to connect...redialing...). What I can do on PC1 to make it connect to the internet via the router the same way the other PC does?
Also, the two PC connects fine over the LAN between each other, but as I said, PC 1 cannot connect to the WAN the same way PC2 does. Things I tried: I did a TCP/IP stack repair and rebooted. Nothing. I disconnected the 'working PC' from the LAN, nothing. I uninstalled the Antivirus and Firewall, nothing...

Our last router seemed to be having problems so my roommate got a new one from Time Warner as a replacement. All of our other roommates had no problem at all when reconnecting to the new router. There are 4 of us, but any given time there may only be two of us using the internet....very seldom all 4 are home at the same time. The only computer having a problem happens to be mine and the only machine with Vista on it.
One of my roommates changed the router while I was away from my notebook which was running and connected to the internet at the time he made the switch. I don't know if this was the cause for all my troubles in the last week trying to figure out why I can't get back online, but I had no problems with the other router except for the signal dropping too low even when we were within a couple of feet of it. There were no changes made on my end nor did anyone else have to make any changes to their computers other than connecting with the new password. I often take my netbook with me and have connected to hundreds of other networks without a problem until this recent change. I can still log onto other wireless networks, but just not to our home wireless network .
I can use the Ethernet and connect to the internet just fine, but I can't seem to get passed the Limited Connectivity when connecting thru the wireless connection. The network key has been double and triple checked by myself and others...it is the correct security key. I've tried changing up the security key just to see what would happen and it won't allow me to connect to the network unless I put in the correct key which still limits me to Local connectivity anyway.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the company I work for, employees' internet traffic is monitored, and if you download too much, you get a warning, and later there might be more serious consequences. But they don't tell how many kilobytes are too much, and they also don't tell, how much of your "kilobyte budget" you have spent already. So I want to be able to monitor my own internet activity. However, all the programs I found so far watch the whole traffic going through the network card, which, beside the internet usage, includes LAN and mail server communication, which don't count. So, I'm looking for a free portable program that can monitor specifically my browser's internet usage, i.e. the number of kilobytes sent and received by the browser application. It is imperative that the program should be portable, or at least installable without administrator privileges, because I don't have that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI work in a small school and recently we started to have a problem with browsing the internet. We don't have an 'IT Department' as such as I'm the closest thing to it.When a browser is opened it will not connect to the homepage, or if it does its generally from cache, instead an error message about not being able to connect to server will appear. Now if you hit refresh you might or might not connect to the webpage in question but you can gurantee that it will take a long time to make that connection even on an undemanding site like wikipedia. The odd thing is that when connected to a speed checker it gives no surprising results, speed is normal. Also when downloading a file or the latest linux live distribution torrent I can achieve maximum speeds available to us.We use a selecction of Macs & PCs mostly connecting through ethernet cabling although connecting wirelessly is no different. We use BT 2Wire 2700HGV Business Hubs. I can't think of any changes our end that have happened to cause this and our internal network connections run just fine. I have tried pinging from the command line and it looks ok to my limited expertise, no lost packets.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to portforward for a game, and in order to do so, I'm setting up a static IP. I've portforwarded in the past and all's been fine, but when I'm trying to set a static IP now it allows me to portforward and host the game, but whenever I try to log into any sort of website, it cannot find the page. The only fix to this is to allow it to obtain the IP address automatically. I've had a static IP in the past and yet I've never run into this issue before.
When I go to my TCP/IPV4 settings under the properties of my selected internet connection, I open up my ipconfig(I'll post it below) and select "Use the Following Ip Address". I then input 192.168.1.73, to change it to that.
Then, I click on the subnet mask box and it auto-fills 255.255.255.0, which is listed under ipconfig anyways, and for default gateway I input 192.168.1.1. I leave the DNS server boxes blank because it doesn't list them under ipconfig and it's what I did in the past to achieve the same results. After I click OK, the issue I listed above begins.

1. I understand firewalls can throw huge issues, I am pretty sure this is where the problem lies. She was using Ad-aware and I am pretty sure that the window that popped up that she clicked switched her firewall settings back to default and left something weird in the system. When I try to disable Windows firewall and go back to Ad-aware it won't let me exit snooze. It asks if I confirm and when I do nothing happens.
2. I have done a winsock reset and made sure that the proxy boxes are unchecked to make sure there isn't a proxy problem.
3. The ipconfig/reset threw no errors, everything looks fine.
4. No hardware conflicts or errors reported in device manager and all drivers are up to date. Again since the internet is actually working minus the browser I don't think it is a hardware issue.
5. No virus detected. Symantec is loaded on the laptop did a run with that, also have AVG that I installed and ran (disabled one and did the other, never run simultaneously). AVG is now uninstalled as Symantec is disabled to avoid any conflict with AdAware.
Is there any way to completely disable all firewalls, remove any settings or registries (if any), and start from scratch with it? Also, as networking is by far my weak point, is there anything I need to check as far as the DNS is concerned?

I suddenly can't connect to the internet using IE or Firefox every time I try I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". My connection on my wireless picks up great and shows signal strength as excellent. I took it to a place that was offering free check ups and they said that I caught a virus which I never seen any sign of catching a virus when it worked and that it had wiped out one of my hard drives and they could fix it for $229.00. I don't have that kind of money so I don't know what to do.
