Apr 26, 2012If I use the reset on the back of the WCG200 and reset it to the original factory settings, does the firmware version revert to the original version?

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG200g Factory Reset Itself?
Aug 10, 2011I have been using Linksys WAG200g as a modem&router at my home for few years already and it did a great job. Plugged it on 24hours non-stop. Default firmware.
However, in the past months WAG200g did the factory reset by itself. It happened once a month, 3 months in a row already. No body pressed the reset button nor use the web admin to reset it. It reset itself. All the SSID, IP Address, passwords, etc are reset to default.

Mar 14, 2013Our family has about three computers that use a wireless network that we all share. We have an old Gateway, a WCG200, that is bridged to an E2000, which was set-up ever since we required better security when someone used our connection to illegally obtain movies. We got a letter which warned us of any future violations that could cause legal action, so we looked into our wireless connection to better secure it from any other individuals outside of our household. The WCG200 is connected to the outlet in the wall via cable, and then connects from the Ethernet to the E2000. The E2000 has a stronger security setup than the WCG200, which is the advice we received from our ISP and would allow us to keep the Gateway. It provides a strong signal, but from time to time, we suffer latency or slow loading through all of our online devices, even though our connection speed displays a solid 72.0 Mbps. I've tried the Event Viewer to see any problems, and I have noticed some small things:
- WLAN AutoConfig service has successfully stopped.Wirel?
- WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped. Module Path: C:WindowsSystem32cmihvsrv64.dll
- The server {E10F6C3A-F1AE-4ADC-AA9D-2FE65525666E} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
- Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet: The network link is down. Check to make sure the network cable is properly connected. [This last one is strange, since I use the Wireless Network Connection with a DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card, while the Broadcom adapter is under the Local Area Connection and displayed as not connected.]
Other than that, I'm not quite sure what the recurring problem comes from. Our WCG200 has a firewall enabled and our E2000 has an SPI firewall enabled. The security mode of the E2000 is a WPA2 setup. We have disabled the wireless network of our WCG200 in order to make use of the E2000.

Jul 1, 2009I have the WCG200 and it has been working fine with my Comcast service for the last 4 years with no issues, either wired or wireless. Starting about a week ago, I have been having a lot of trouble with my wireless. I am on Firmware Version: 2.0.3.9.31-1023 and my ISP is Comcast. I have tried calling Comcast to see if there is a firmware update but that phone call usually doesn't go very far.

I go to unplug it, and the power plug is extremely hot, so we unplug it, and let it cool off, then plug it back in later. Jan 18, 2012I'm having a problem with my WCG200 wireless gateway. I can sucessfully use it to connect to the internet using the wireless feature but only for a short time (10-30min at a time). Eventually, I loose the connection. I'm not sure if it's a modem issue or an ISP issue but only one of my two laptops has this trouble.
Symptom: Connecting with a Dell Lattitude E5520 laptop It works normally until the "US" and "Online" LEDs turn off and only the DS light is left blinking. At that time I no longer have a connection to the internet. Once I cycle power on the WCG200 it re-connects and works for a while, then the same issue repeats. I cleared the modem log and let the failure occur again to record the fresh log.
I attached the Modem Log in case that would troubleshoot. I've got the security of the modem set to allow the laptops MAC addresses and using WPA-personal / TKIP encryption. I never had this problem until I started using a new laptop, I'm starting to suspect that my ISP is disconnecting that laptop for some reason ?

Mar 25, 2007WCG200?i have just bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium as the OS.i've already downloaded the new driver file, and unzipped it. but how to i install it so that i can get online wirelessly?all my permissions are set properly to allow communication, but i cannot get onto the wireless network.i've also noticed that the WCG200 is not listed on the Linksys Windows Vista Support page. does this mean that my WCG200 is not supported to work with Vista. if so, why are there Vista drivers available for download?currently i am connected via wire and it works fine. it also detects my wireless network. the problem is just connecting to it.

Jun 19, 2012I just replaced a hard drive on my computer, installed win7, hooked up the linksys according to the guide but it is not recognizing anything attached. My devices indicates an unknown ethernet controller. I have installed no drivers for anything, no drivers were listed as needed for wcg200.
The same linksys is hooked up to a second computer (which I am posting from) so I am assuming it works fine. Also I had the thing set up on the last harddrive with win7, the only difference was the harddrive was loaded up with the OS by the computer shop. I have never done this before and wanted to try it out. I swapped ethernet cables to make sure nothing changed with the cables, but no luck.

Mar 23, 2013I was having some connectivity issues with my network of WAP54G's, so I had a technician come to have them looked at. The technician turned out to be completely clueless, and he messed up one of the APs in the process. He changed its IP address and apparently updated its firmware, but he didn't write the new address down, so now I can't access its administrator panel. I've tried to retrieve the IP address using the setup CD that came with the AP, but it doesn't even see the AP in my network. I've tried to factory reset the AP by holding the reset button for 10, 30 and 60 seconds and unplugging the power cord, but to no avail. It still doesn't bring up the admin panel when I enter the default IP in the browser. I think I've tried everything I could find on the Internet about this problem that didn't involve cracking the AP open, but none of it has worked.

1) Press and hold the reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds

Interestingly, doing either of these things seemed to have no effect on the status lights.

Apr 15, 2013My EA6500 has been working fine for the last few months but a few days ago i upgraded to the latest firmware 1.1.28.147876 - this was done by an ethernet cable, not by wifi. However i've noticed the router reverts back to the previous fw 1.1.28.146856 when the router is rebooted or factory reset. I've repeated the fw upgrade process and also done a hard reset before upgrading the firmware but no avail. Normally after firmware is 'upgraded' the router reboots and i get the message "firmware successfully installed" but then on subsequent reboots the firmware reverts back. I'm using local router access but even using smartwifi gives the same issue. When upgrading fw, i've tried both options online & manual but again makes no difference.
Don't really fancy calling Linksys support and going through 4 hrs of basic trouble shooting. Or perhaps Cisco have introduced a new automatic firmware downgrade option in their routers?

Aug 18, 2011I've inherited a IAD2430 router but I don't have the ena passwords nor am I able to do a break and do a password recovery. I'm familiar with the password recovery process and config reg settings but this one has me stumped.
The config register is set to 0x2102 so I see nothing at all when it boots until it's completed and I get the prompt to "Press RETURN to get started!" I get to non priv mode but without the password obviously I'm going nowhere at that point. All the docs I've come across so far assume you can break out of the boot process or are already in rommon. When I remove the flash: I get no output at all... The IAD has no "reset" button like the CAT switches either..
I don't need the current config, just a reset/format of the NVRAM.

Jan 18, 2012I have a DIR-655 (HW rev A2) that has worked mostly fine for a long time. Today I decided to do a firmware upgrade, and in preparation I backed up my custom config settings and did a hard reset via the factory reset button on the back of the unit.
Since then, the unit itself has been inaccessible from my computer. If I connect the DIR-655 and a PC with a network cable, the appropriate light goes on on the front of the router, but the client does not lease an IP address from the router and I can't access the router home page at 192.168.0.1.
I have tried the reset button again and also power-cycled multiple times, and I have tried connecting from multiple computers, all with the same unsuccessful results. how to "un-brick" the device?

I assume from this the required bin has either been removed, renamed or overwritten.As soon as the router boots it requires a password and I dont have the password to be able ftp files in and out of it.
