View 1 RepliesI have a new Polycom Soundpoint IP550 VOIP phone that was not connecting via my old WRT54GS router. I purchased a new router, the E4200, thinking it was just the age of my original router. It also will not allow the VOIP traffic through. I can connect the VOIP phone directly to my CenturyLink modem and it works. But when I connect it back to the router it stops.
I contacted Cisco support and they had me upgrade the firmware to 1.0.02 build 13 May 24, 2011 version. Also adjusted down the MTU to 1364. That still did not work so they told me to take the router back to the store. I have not done that yet as I want to ensure that the router is really broken and not that I am missing a setting. The tech said that I should be able to plug the VOIP phone into the router and make NO additional changes.
I have a new VOIP implementation using 2960 switches. I want to prioritize voice traffic. After creating VLAN 2 I did the following:
Per Cisco, I did the following on my up-link ports:
switch port trunk allowed vlan 1,2
switch port mode trunk
switch port nonegotiate
priority-queue out
mls qos trust cos
switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,2
switchport mode trunk
switchport nonegotiate
priority-queue out
mls qos trust cos
spanning-tree port fast trunk
spanning-tree bpduguard enable
On my ports where a VOIP phone was plugged in, I did the following:
switch port trunk allowed v lan 1,2switchport mode trunk switch port no negotiate priority-queue outmls qos trust cos spanning-tree port fast trunk spanning-tree bpduguard enable
How can I verify that my voice traffic is being prioritized?
How can I increase the number of devices in the GUI since is only allowing 3 devices.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an EA4500 specifically to utilize the QoS feature. I have my xbox in the set up for the prioritization, but when I try to set the bandwidth to 250 kbps upload, it resets to 0. My xbox is hardwired to the router and I know most of the feature set of this particular router is geared towards wifi, but I would assume the QoS settings would apply to the wired devices as well. exchanging this router for one that supports DD-WRT?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe just purchased cisco 2960 for our VoIP needs and we are using polycom phones, and Phone and Computer will use same port. Since Polycom phones are capable working with CDP protocol and we are hoping to get another switch to expand VoIP network. I found easiest way of setting up each port is as following (from the cisco tutorial)
Switch#configure terminal
Switch(config)#mls qos
Switch(config)#interface fastethernet 0/1
Switch(config-if)#mls qos trust cos
Switch(config-if)#switchport voice vlan dot1p
Switch(config-if)#switchport voice vlan 10
Switch(config-if)#switchport mode access
Switch(config-if)#switchport access vlan 20
Switch(config-if)#exit
My first question, when we are using switchport voice vlan dot1p ,I thought we instruct the switch port to use 802.1P priority tagging for voice traffic and to use the default native VLAN (VLAN 0) to carry all traffic.Do I still need to create a Vlan 20 for data and Vlan 10 for voice ?
Secondly, same tutorial adds these commands as well,Do you think for our set up, using those commands are feasible ?
Switch(config-if)#switchport priority extend trust
Switch(config-if)#priority-queue out
Switch(config-if)#spanning-tree portfast
Switch(config-if)#spanning-tree bpduguard enable
Switch(config-if)#exit
Thirdly, when we get another switch and do the same configuration for the second switch, can I use any port on Switch 1 as uplink without doing any configuration ?
We have to set up voip for our network(for 50 phones not he cisco phones).
I need to just the route the voip traffic to gateway address of telephonic company(1.1.5.7) where they provide us the connectivity for the setination call.
What sort of protocols should i have to enable in pix i saw the concepts like sip, h323, ras, skinny.
We are using only voip for asa and no data or other traffic should be allowed.
inside adrees: 10.10.10.0/24 for all voip phones
outside:121.21.22.1
telephoneic gateway: 1.1.5.7
I am looking for a Best Practices or a few places to pay attention to in the Cisco ESW-520-48P switch I have. My VoIP solution is RingCentral, and while they are Cisco phones, I've been hestitant to setup VLANs etc. the way I am used to. Plus setting up Auto QoS seems different than what I am used to with a 3750 switch.
Right now I've left the Smartports Wizard alone, and none of the ports are configured. There are no VLANs or QoS on the LAN currently.
What I was running into were calls cutting out where one side wouldn't hear the other anymore, but the call would remain connected. However, this has happened in this small 15 person office, when there is only one employee here after hours, talking on the phone. There isn't any heavy network traffic, because I have network monitoring showing me low usage (no streaming music, videos, or anything else).
This switch has a Gb connection to a Linksys SR2024 (the server switch), which is also set at Factory Defaults. I mention that because I recently bypassed the ESW-520-48P, and plugged one phone into that switch and the RingCentral phone worked fine for outside calls.
Is there something besides QoS that I should look at in the ESW-520 switch that might be causing a checkpoint of some sort, or interrupting VoIP traffic that I need to configure or disable?
And are there any Best Practices or scenario guides for this switch? I found the Admin Guide, but it really just explains every option in the GUI for the switch. And it seems all of my CCNA training isn't working with going in and quickly troubleshooting this switch besides knowing that something in it could be hanging it up.
We've been configuring our swtichports as follows for our 7945 and 6941 type VoIP Phones, but are having problems witht the 6901.
VLANS
Vlan 900 is a VoIP VLAN
Vlan 999 is a NULL VLAN and is shut down:
interface g0/1
switchport access vlan 999 {VLAN to direct data traffic to the bit bucket becuase a PC shouldn't be connected to this port}
switchport mode access
switchport voice vlan 900
mls qos trust cos
spanning-tree portfast
The 6901 phone doesn't support multiple VLANs, so our configuration above does not work unless vlan 999 is turned on (not good security wise). We got the phones to work also by removing vlan 999 and switchport mode access.
switchport voice vlan 900
mls qos trust cos
spanning-tree portfast
solution that provides the discarding of data for the access VLAN, while supporting the VoIP vlan for this phone?

View 1 Replies View RelatedA client is using Tmobile VOIP using the aforementioned WRTU54G-TM 2-line VOIP wireless router with 4-port hub. What they would like to do is to place this in their network and NOT have it change (route) the network addresses being assigned to devices 'behind' this router so even their wireless devices are all "on the same network" as the wired devices BEFORE this unit, In essence, preserve the same 'network and subnet mask' that is being issued by their DSL router via it's integrated DHCP server. ... Rather like operating this unit like an 'access point' instead of a router.Under most circumstances, I might try to assign this router a static IP outside the scope of the DHCP range the DSL router would supply, then plug the (gigabit) Ethernet network cable into one of the 4 Ethernet ports on the rear of this router - but apparently this does not 'facilitate' a connection to Tmobile's VOIP service. When attempting to do this, the connected telephone devices do not get a phone line connection and the status light(s) that normally indicate proper operation do not illuminate.

I thought all was well until I noticed that my Magic Jack VoIP telephone began dropping calls after about 1 minute. My first course of action was to disable SPI firewall in router and reboot. That had no affect on the situation, then I noticed that my send light on my cale modem [ no manufacturer listed on unit] was not blinking as it has done before the router installation. I reverted to my cable modem to pc only set up and my Magic Jack worked just fine. I need to use the router for wireless, so I need to find a solution to this problem. I took a look at my firmware version and saw that it was not current, but I wanted to bring my problem here for a possible solution be for I flashed new firmware.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to front-end my ISP's router with another, giving me a DMZ. I have bought an EA2700 for this but I can't find how to configure it.
I plan to have the DMZ network as 10.1.2.0/24, with the ISP's router at 10.1.2.254 and the EA2700's "upstream" connection as 10.1.2.1. The internal network (where most of the clients reside) will then be 10.1.1.0/24, with the EA2700 itself at 10.1.1.254 and a DHCP range 10.1.1.100 upwards.
On the basic setup screen I've set the Internet connection type to fixed IP, 10.1.2.1; I've set its default gateway and DNS1 as the ISP's router at 10.1.2.254. Then further down in network setup I've entered the *internal* address 10.1.1.254 and set the DHCP range and netmask appropriately. I'm getting the error message "The IPv4 address and gateway are not in the same subnet mask". But the only gateway I've entered is the one by which the *EA2700* knows how to route upstream traffic, viz the ISP's router at 10.1.2.254. Or am I misunderstanding?
More fundamentally, can the EA2700 be configured in this way?
I recently bought an EA2700 in hopes that it will make my connection faster, stronger signal and stable. However, this is not the case. The connections keeps dropping and the range is the same as my Verizon-FiOS router. Anyway, I'm hoping that a fix be distributed to address this issue. I can't return my router to the vendor anymore.
Now, since I have two routers, I want to be able to leverage EA2700's dual-band feature and the Guest-access feature but I can't make this as a main router since my FiOS router should still be able to supply IP addresses to my cable boxes, thus, I can't configure it as a Bridge. I'm thinking if I just split the IP distribution as follows:
FiOS router: 192.168.1.2-110
EA2700: 192.168.1.111-150
I have a Linksys WRT54g router that works fine, but the signal is not very good on some points of the house. So I bought a TP-Link 740n to use as a second router. My idea is to connect both routers with a 10 meters lan cable that I have, to make the signal better on points that are distant from the main router (Linksys) or separated by walls. When job is done, will I see two different networks (one for each router) on my laptop or only the "original" signal (WRT54g)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a strong internet signal with good SNR coming out of my cable modem, then a nice short 3ft cable going to my linksys VOIP router (I think it's a SPA 2102). Whether I have anything downstream plugged in or not, the "phone" light on the VOIP router goes off every once in a while and when I check I find that I've lost both dial tone and Internet - basically everything downstream of the VOIP router. Have tried every variation on configuration you can imagine (feeding just one phone, feeding the entire phone wiring to the house, nothing at all plugged into the phone jack, no computers downstream plugged in, replaced all the cables, ...). I've replaced BOTH the cable modem and the linksys VOIP router and the problem continues. My cable company says my signal is fine. They suggested a signal amplifier but the coax comes straight to the modem, no splitter, and I'm always seeing 6-7dBmV. My phone company says their router must be losing signal upstream and refusing to reconnect, especially now that we've tried replacing their VOIP router with no change. Any chance I got two 'bad' routers in a row? Not sure what they did for setup parameters. I'm not particularly tech-savvy but have read a lot since seeing these issues, have run my own ping and tracert checks and everything seems to be wonderful... but then most of the time everything IS fine. When I have phone it's crystal clear and when I have internet it's nice and fast. I sometimes go 24hrs or so without a drop, but other times I'm resetting 2-3x in a couple of hours. All I do is power off the VOIP router and back on and everything is fine, for a while. After first getting VOIP things were fine for 4-6 weeks.

I have a 6 month old Cisco e-4200 router that is updated to the latest firmware, connected to a Motorola surfboard modem on Sudden-link in Midland, TX.
I previously used this exact same setup on Cox Cable in Wichita, KS with no problems. Upon setting it up down here I cannot get the router to pickup an IP address. I have Power-cycled everything multiple times, did a complete reset and re-installation of the router software and still no luck. The Sudden-link techs have no idea what is wrong. They said that the modems signal is strong and everything should be working.
Actually I did get it to work once for a couple of days, however when redoing the surround sound system I had to unhook the cable line and it quit working and I haven't gotten it to work again since. I have tried unhooking everything. Turning it all off. Waiting for 5+minutes, and then reconnecting in order: First the modem, then an ethernet cable to the computer which will usually work. But as soon as I unplug the cable from the computer and plug it into the router it stops working.
