View 1 RepliesI have the new XBOX 360 black N wireless adapter and the Linksys E3000 dual band router as I want to upgrade the network range and speed to N. I set up a unique SSID and passphrase (WPA2) for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. My XBOX could connect to the 2.4GHz band network and could connect to XBOX Live. But when I configured all the settings and tried to connect to the 5GHz band network, but no luck. My XBOX just said it failed to connect. I was sure that I did type in the SSID and passphrase correctly. I still cannot figure out what went wrong. I even suspected either the wireless adapter or the router malfunctioned.

I'm using a WDR3600 router, and I'm having difficulty with getting internet access on the 5 GHz band. Right now the router is broadcasting in both 2.4 and 5 GHz as two separate APs. The 2.4 GHz band works perfectly fine, but when I connect to the 5 GHz band my device is not assigned an IP address and cannot connect to the internet (or even the router configuration page). Unfortunately, I don't have another device capable of accessing the 5 GHz band, so I can't check to see if the computer is at fault, but both the computer and the router have worked together with no problems before, and this computer has done fine in accessing other 5 GHz bands.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI changed the 5 GHZ SSID name using Cisco connect on my E3200 router as was expecting to see 2 available wireless networks on my laptop, but it seems that only the 2.4 GHZ is still broadcasting as it was before. When I connect to it with my laptop it shows it connecting with 802.11n, so I would think that my laptop would see the 5 GHz SSID if it was broadcasting. I am trying to take advantage of the dual band feature and connect the 5 GHZ to my blue ray player for real time video streaming.

My wireless settings on my Superhub modem look like this.As you can see it has settings for 2.4 OR 5GHz and wireless modes of 54, 144 or 300Mbps.
What setting should I be using for my EA4500 to operate in dual band mode? I'm guessing I should put by Virgin Superhub modem in modem mode at 5GHz/300Mbps.I will besetting up seperate SSIDs for 2.4 and 5GHz bands.

Why I cannot go to the 5Ghz band to utilize the superior speeds to transfer files over wireless connection between my computers? I am sure that I am still on the default 2.4 Ghz because
1) The file transfer speeds are pathetic
2) In Wireless Security, if I set the Wireless Mode to disabled for the 2.4Ghz band, Windows shows me "Unsecured Network" even with 2.4Ghz disabled.
On my new E4200, I cannot connect wirelessly to the 2.4GHZ band. I can only connect to the 5GHZ band. I know its not the distance because i've got my laptop only 2 feet away. I've hit the refresh wireless network button, but the only network visible is my 5GHZ. I've also restarted the router, no luck
I went into the router settings and made sure that BOTH SSID'S are broadcasting a signal.and are enabled (ive got the channel and other settings set to auto). I'm able to connect perfectly well to the 5GH band, and walk around the house, but nothing i've done, allows me to see the 2.4GHZ band? So far, my wireless reception is poorer than my old wrt310n.
I installed an E4200 in an outdoor patio area where the ambient temperature can be high (Las Vegas area); however, the router is located in the shade without any direct exposure to the sun. After using the router for about 15 minutes, the router is extremely hot and 2.4GHz band will stop working. In addition, even when the router is working, the 5 GHz band connects at much higher speed than the 2.4 Ghz band. The internet download speed is much higher using 5 GHz compared to 2.4 Ghz.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAll my wireless devices are 802.11n and none of them can pick up the 5 GHz band on my E4200 router. I've tried all the different settings and channels on this band and still nothing. The only device i have been able to pick up the 5 GHz band with is a Desktop PC with a linksys AE1000 USB network adapter. This is quite frustrating because I would like to put my blu-ray player and game systems on the 5 GHz band. Laptop, PS3, XBOX 360, iPOD, and blue-ray player all can't pick up the 5 GHz band. Either my unit is defective (which I don't think is the case or not even the USB adapter would be picking up the network) or there is something I am missing (which I have tried pretty much everything as far as I know with the settings, have two separate names for the band networks and have tried each individual channel under 5 GHz). Also running current firmware version.

I have a PROLiNK H5001N ADSL Wireless Modem using bridge mode to my TL-WDR4300. I login to my ISP using the TL-WDR4300 with secondary connection to my modem so that I can open the modem setup page.
1.) My question is can the Prolink get DHCP address from the Wan Port of TL-WDR4300?
2.) Can I still use the Wifi of the modem to get internet?
3.) If I connect my ISP to Prolink then connect TL-WDR4300 thru static connection, will the NAT and Hardware NAT still work in the TL-WDR4300?
NOTE: the latest firmware built TL-WDR4300_V1_121225 seams to have internet connection lost problem after a few minutes. I reverted back to 3.12.23 and the problem is gone.

I'm having issues with DHCP server not dealing IP after few hours (varies between 1h and 8h) of torrent traffic. If no continuous torrent traffic is applied, the problem does not occur. New wireless devices connect to the wi-fi network, but get stuck on 'getting IP adress'. The problem is with DHCP service or the wireless network service. New wired devices receive IP. The problem is only with wireless devices. I have no additional wireless device, that I can configure the network settings on my own (only phones) to check if it works without DHCP server giving IP. Wired connection is stable, but the bandwidth usage curve becomes somewhat similar to a sinewave.
I did disable the hardware NAT because that feature made the router unstable and caused it to hang up within minutes.

So I've been checking my router DHCP list and I usually use the WPS feature to add devices. I know how many devices I have and which ones are wireless etc. I've made address reservations on all the devices that I have and know of. One feature that really frustrates me (which is missing) is no way to rename a device. My iPhone is named: Reggie's iPhone yet the 4300 picks it up as Unknown... I dont understand why. I've renamed it on the iPhone to different things and restarted it but still it comes up as that. I have 2 Nexus 7s and both come up with wierd names, one is for my wife and one is for me and I wish there was a way to name it proper.
Question is: Will the name edit feature ever get added to it? I dont get why it's not there now, it's not really something major (I have a 5 year old router that even has that... and it cant even support N). It's really frustrating to have to guess and check the devices on my network because most of them come up as unknowns.
Right now I'm trying to located another device that's coming up as unknown and now matter how much I try, since the router lacks any feature to assist finding it, it's really frustrating.
something else i noticed: my DHCP List shows all the devices connected with their IP addresses, yet I went into CMD and was doing a random ping command. I'm able to ping 192.168.0.114 with perfect stats back yet on my DHCP List it shows the highest IP is at 192.168.0.112.... Is something wrong here? Is it supposed to not pick up the IPs it gives out? And of course since there isnt a way to tell if that IP is for a WIFI or ethernet device, I have no idea what that device is...
yet i found another ip address on my network by using the ping command. actually I went ahead and did arp -a to find out all the ips with mac addresses. this is a serious flaw with the security of this router!!
When you have both a dual band router, and a dual band adapter, does that give you a theoretical peak of 600mbps on the Adapter? or does it only connect on one frequency at a time from the adapter?
EG Dlink DWA-160 with an E4200.
I have an e4200 set up and working on fios as a pppoe router properly with a dozen devices connected to it via dhcp. The dhcp range i configured in the e4200 is 192.168.1 100 to start with, and a mask of 255.255.255.0.
All the dhcp devices connected to the router start with 192.168.1.1xx. My Dell Inspirion with Windows 7 has an ipv4 address of 192.168.15.2. I cannot figure out how it gets this address, even after I release and renew the address on the Dell.
Everything is working fine so I guess there is something I just do not understand.
When I'm in Setup -> Basic Setup -> click on DHCP Reservation, I don't see all entries I've created earlier but computers that connect still have the correct IP address on the network; I don't know if I can create additional entries if nothing appears
When I go to Status -> Local Network -> DHCP Client Table the list is blank but some computers are connected to the networkI'm using firmware 1.0.01 build 10 Feb 21, 2011, language = English, Firefox 4.0.1.Rebooting the router doesn't change anything, I can't see connected LAN equipment and DHCP Reservation is empty despite the fact I've created entries.Together with the "Access Restriction" which doesn't allow to block a computer from 10pm => 8am unless you create 2 rules + various issues with attached USB + 2.4Ghz signal that is far from optimal (never able to achieve more than 144-N-Mbps) and I ask myself if I will not contact the store where I purchased this unit and ask a refund (and buy something else from another brand...)
I have ten E4200 routers deployed in five library branches. In recent months, the E4200's in two branches have occasionally gone into a state where they are not always providing an IP address to both wired and wireless devices. Some devices will get an IP fine and others will not, The problem seems to move and the next day the same device will connect fine and others will not. A reset of the router usually clears the problem but it is becoming more frequent and bothersome. For some reason only two locations are effected.
Some notes:
- Firmware version is 1.0.02 build 13
- When I set devices up with static IP's they work fine, so the problem seems to be related to the DHCP service
- The WAN side of the network tests fine with no issues
- I've had these routers deployed for over a year and this problem just started in the past two months
- Routers and AP's are on different channels to prevent interference
- No nearby WiFi signals appear to be casuing any interference
The e4200 1.0.03 DHCP server appears to be quite buggy. After configuring a static IP / reservation for a client which already had a dynamic IP from the pool, the e4200 continued to offer this client its pool IP. However, the DHCP client listing in the e4200 showed the client having the static IP even though it was still being offered that pool address. This may sound like user error, but I can assure you, it is not. I have had a very frustrating experience with this product, and rather than fool with tech support again, I ran `tcpdump -e -s1600 -n -vvvv -i eth0 port bootpc or port bootps` to absolutely rule out a mistake on my part, bug in the DHCP client, etc. I found that the client was always offered that old IP, even thought the e4200 status display showed the "new" static one, after doing a DHCPDISCOVER without requesting a specific IP. This condition persists across e4200 reboots even after having the client release its lease!I finally was able to resolve this by forcing the client to request the static IP from the e4200.This is unquestionably a bug in the DHCP server, and additionally, the user interface does not show the real state of the underlying DHCP leases held by clients which have static addresses / reservations. Troubleshooting this condition is well beyond the abilities of the average user.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to get the E4200 to NOT provide itself as a dns server to the DHCP clients? I have the unit set up to provide two dns servers to the clients, but the 4200 always provides itself as a third and it uses my cable providers dns servers. I am using a dns based filtering service to prevent certain material from being accessed within my network as the first two resolvers. So long as both or one of the provided servers is working it doesn't fall back to the unfiltered third, but I would prefer to remove it entirely.

"Cisco Connect" reports that I have four clients connected. When I access the router and bring up the DHCP Client Table, there are no entries. There should be four entries. Aftern I enable the logging function, none of the logs have any data in them even after I wait for 45 minutes and use the internet and renew IPs. I am using Firmware Version: 1.0.03. View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought an e4200. I was using a LinkSys WRT54GS running DD-WRT alternative firmware.
One feature that I really liked in DD-WRT was the ability to assign static IP leases from the DHCP server. I liked having all of my devices running with a predictable, known IP address on my network. I have a Home Theater PC, and various controller applications that run on iPhones, etc. - some pretty homebrewed. Configuring the firewalls, etc. was much easier with IP address based controls.
Is there a way to achieve the same within the e4200's stock firmware?

My DSL connection comes into our house in the basement and the DSL modem came with a router included. I bought the WDR4300 for the higher speed wireless connections and the gigabit ports. I really don't need the "router" functionality. I would like to put the WDR4300 on the second floor to give (hopefully) the broadest wireless range. However, I would like all my PCs (including those wirelessly connected) to be on the same sub-net. Is there a way to configure the WDR4300 so it acts like a switch rather than a router?

My ISP has provided me a router: Zyxel P-2601HN which has an ideal WLAN transfer rate of 150 mbps. I live in a concrete 2 story house so signals are weak at best on the other floor - therefore, I Have bought the TL-WDR4300 as an extension for the latter floor. I have connected the routers from LAN to LAN and the Zyxel has 192.168.1.1 on LAN and the TL-WDR4300 had 192.168.0.1 as out set. I have changed this to 192.168.1.2 and all the setup (disabled DHCP + other) seems to work alright. BUT i can not log into the TL-WDR4300 !! Not with http://192.168.1.2 and not with [URL]. What I can do to get into the setup of TL-WDR4300. I know I can alays backup the setting and reset the router and load the setting again, make alterations, saving .....but it kind of drastic !Can the two radios SSID names (2,4 MHz and 5 MHz) be the same name as the SSID name on the Zyxel P-2601HN ? What are the implications ?
I have 2 Media Bridges, a Trendnet TEW-640MB and TrendNet TEW-680MB. Both are set as a Static IP on the devices 192.168.1.150 and 192.168.1.151. In the DHCP table for my E4200 I don't see those. I have no problem accessing them typing in those IP addresses but wondering why they don't show up in the table.Actually looking at it more closely, the devices hooked up that are active seem to show up.So I see the following below. And where is list LAN but no name those seem to be devices connected to the media bridges.
