Linksys Wireless Router :: Using WRT120N Hooked To PC Already On Internet?
Apr 22, 2012
For home use, I have a Windows Vista PC which is hooked up to the Internet via a wireless EV/DO modem that plugs into a USB port. I just bought an iPad and for connectivity, I then bought a WRT120N wireless router. But I cannot attach the EV/DO modem to the WRT120N since the EV/DO only has a USB port. I plugged the PC into one of the 4 ports of the WRT120N and the iPad sees the router, but what I would like is that it also sees the internet when the PC is online via the EV/DO modem. Is there a way to configure this? I realize that the PC would always have to be switched on if I want to have the iPad online, but for the time being I am ok with that.
COX cable was out yesterday doing some work outside our apartment building. Now, our CISCO LinkSYS WRT120N won't work. I was working before COX cable came out and has been working without problem for the past two years. When I plug the harddrive into slot 1 in the back of the router, "4" lights up. When I plut it into slot 4, "1" lights up. When I plug it into slot 2, "3" lights up, and when I plug it into slot 3, "2" lights up.I tried the router software, but when I reach the plug the router in step, the soft ware returns after a couple minutes and says it cannot locate the router, even though the router lights are on.
I have the CISCO Linksys Wireless Router Model Number: WRT120N. My laptop is finding the router, and connecting to it fine. However, when I try to log onto the internet, it says no internet connection (same in the available net work section in the menu bar).Internet (Charter) they have checked the modem and there is no issue. I have also plugged the Ethernet cord directly from the modem into the computer, and unable to access the internet.
Recently I bought a new laptop (Sony Vaio SVE1511HFXW) and I haven't been able to connect it to the internet wirelessly. I previously was working on a Sony Vaio VGN-NR series laptop that I had no problem setting up a wireless connection for. I ran my router set up disc on the new machine and basically everything got ruined. My other laptop lost it's wireless connection and connecting it with an ethernet cable didn't work either. So now both computers were not connected. Actually, all devices can't pick up the wireless anyway (I tried to get on netflix with my Wii and it didn't work) I restarted the router several times, reset it once and nothing happened. I could only connect with the cable after I reset the modem and router, but it's still saying it "can't detect an internet connection." When I ping the router I get an answer back.
Here's what I get when I run ipconfig in the command prompt:
C:UsersShinsei>ipconfig Windows IP Configuration Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:
I'm staying at a hotel where the internet offered is only wired. I can plug in the ethernet cable and no log-in is required. However, when I connect to the router and then try to access the internet from my laptop it does not appear to work.
I’ve bought a router, and a wireless antenna for my laptop, since I have a high-speed internet outlet in the living room, but I use my laptop in the kitchen (I don’t have any other pc). So I’ve configured my Linksys WRT120N router in the living room, unplugged the ethernet cable from my laptop, plugged the wireless antenna in the kitchen, and everything was working fine with the wireless network. After about one month I was not able anymore to enter my network with the security key, there was actually no prompt for the security key, just a message “Cannot connect to the network”. I then had to reconfigure the router, going to the router IP address (I used the default settings, a blank for username, and “admin” as a password, as per instructions), use another network name, security key and password, and was able to start again a wireless network with the wireless antenna as before. This problem represented other 3 times (in the last 3 months), and was working fine, but now I cannot reconfigure the router anymore, since the IP address doesn’t accept BLANK/ADMIN anymore, and if I go ahead and reconfigure the router a message says I have to use the default settings in the IP address…
I often loose internet connection recently while online. I always check my status on 192.168.1.1 when this happen to see if i'm getting 0's ISP but it does not say that.I also tried ipconfig/release and renew I also tried right click wireless icon and click "repair"Power cycle always worked for me in the past but today to my dissappointment it did not.after power cycling I check my status on 192.168.1.1 and now it indicates 0's.
My router was working till date. Due to some reason, I disconnected the internet cable and connected it. After that it does not connect to internet.Based on the forum I accessed 192.168.1.1, it displays the administration page. I have reset to factory settings and switched off the router for a while and turned it
I just connected my WRT120N router to the modem of my Cable provider. Everything seems to work well, however every 1-3 days I cannot access internet anymore with my laptop. When I press "IP address release" button in the router settings everything seems to work fine for again 1-3 days. Is there any way I can prevent this from happening all the time?
For some reason my wireless router recognized my pc, or my modem, Neither is it able to connect to the internet. All the lights are on but not flashing/blinking like they used to. I tried to run the setup over and it couldn't find the router even though everything was plugged correctly. I tried reseting the router but that doesn't even affect it. All the lights remain on with on blinking or flashing no mater what I do. Is there anyway for my router to work normal again or do I need to get a ned wireless router?
I hooked up with a Linksys WRT110 wireless router to a Zoom modem and my DSL on my desktop and laptop are both working fine. My problem is my phone lines quit working. I plugged a phone into the box outside and I had a dial tone. When you try to call my house it just keeps ringing.
Well, I have a WRT120N Router for 11 months to now. I never had a problem with the Router, but since 2 days ago, It didnt connect to the internet.
My network is: Internet > Cable Modem > WRT120N > Computers
As I said, the problem is that the Router doesnt has Internet Connection.
Things to take in consideration: The Cable MODEM ISN'T the problem Because if i connect the modem directly to a computer, I have Internet connection without problems.I Diconnected and Connected both Modem and Router in several ways and several times, and it doesnt work.I also tryed clonning my PCs MAC address to the Router and it was the same. The Router Indeed receives the External IP Address from the Modem, and also, it changes if i restart the modem (as my ISP IP is DHCP). But there is NO internet conection. The Router had the 1.0.05 Firmware, and i upgraded to 1.0.06, and the problem persists. Another thing to take in account is that if I turn off my modem and the I turn it On, sometimes, the router receives Internet connection, but in matter of Seconds (minutes as much), the internet connection falls.
This is NOT an ISP problem, because as I said, if I connect the Modem Directly to any PC, i have a perfectly normal Internet Connection, And also, I called my ISP and they Said me that there werent any problem on their network.
I have also tryed with the "Router Dianostics" (the Ping and Traceroute options that are in the Router's Webend and also, no conection. So its NOT a Cables problem.
I have a disconnecting problem with my WRT120N (Linksys) wireless router. Sometimes all wireless devices lose the connection to the internet, and the access to the router administration page (192.168.1.1) becomes impossible. In this case LEDs of power, internet and wireless are lighting without flashing. This problem usually occurs every 48 hour, and there was no way to make a reconnection except turning the router off by unplugging the power wire and plug it again…
I hope find a solution for this problem here
Other question: are there any problems in Firmware Version: v1.0.04
My wireless router will work for 6- 8hrs then drop the internet connection. I have to cycle the modem and router several times to restore the connection. I am also using a Netgear Access Point.
I am using: Charter High Speed Internet Motorola Modem Cisco Model WRT120N Router SETTINGS Mode- Mixed Channel Width- Auto 20MHz or 40MHz Security- WPA2 Personal SSID Broadcast- Disabled Firmware Version v1.0.04 Connection Type- Auto Conf DHCP Beacon Interval - 50 Fragmentation Threshold 2304 RTS Threshold 2304
All other setting are at factory default. When I unplug the modem from the router and plug it into the desk top I have internet service.
I have a problem with my Router WRT120N wen I connect to router with wireless are wired it`s not giving me Internet access but the light on the router of Internet is ON if I put the internet cable directed to my computer give me internet.
I cant remember my password and i lost my cd installer. someone hacked my internet line< I want to change my password but cannot get through the router mainframe. How can I access my router?
Some background on a scale of 1-to-10 with 10 being Sheldon Cooper and 1 being a computer less grandparent, I'm about a 6. I'm home from school for the summer and trying to access my parent's DSL by adding my router as a middleman. I tried the basic hookup (wall->modem-->router-->computer) using a Motorola MSTATEA modem and a Cisco E1000 linksys router
Router 1: I have a WRT120N wireless router connected to the Internet. It has IP 192.168.1.1 and DHCP is enabled with address range 192.168.1.100 up.
Router 2: I have a WRT310N router connected to the LAN via LAN port to ethernet jack in the wall (not WAN/Internet port). It has ip 192.168.1.2 and DHCP is DISABLED.
All the devices on my network can see each other. Devices connecter to router 1 can see devices connected to router 2.The problem is, devices connected to router 2 cannot get to the Internet. I verified clients connecting to router 2 are assigned the same DNS addresses and the same gateway 192.168.1.1 as the clients connected to router 1. But for some reason router 2 doesn't know how to router Internet traffic out through router 1?
I tried plugging the LAN cable into the Internet/WAN port on Router 2 but then devices on Router 2 can no longer see devices on Router 1. I've seen discussions of setting up router 2 on its own subnet: 192.168.2.1 instead of 192.168.1.2 but then supposedly devices on router 2 will still not be able to see devices on router 1.
I'm guessing router 2 can't access the Internet because it is default configured to send Internet traffic to the Internet port, no t the LAN port. how to configure it so all devices on both routers see each other and router 2 devices can get to the Internet.
Router config and i just follow the instructions anyway i just bought this router cuz the old one failed and it was installed ok with internet connection and everything but when i open a program like bittorrent azureus the internet connection dies, it happens on my laptop and mac they both seem ok but when i open that program internet connection disappears
Reciently I bought a WRT120N Router to get a better internet connection and to have more capacity to connect different wireless devices, because the modem from my internet provider company is extremely restrictive.
I use an iMac, a Notebook with Windows 7 and a Netbook with Ubuntu 11.04, besides different devices (iPhone, iPod, PS3, Kindle). Although when I configured the router I connected every devices simultaneasly, with better signal quality than before, after using it for a couple of days I found that it disconnects itself, I can't access internet, and my only solution it's to switch it off and on.
I recently changed my internet connection to DSL from Cable, so now I'm using PPPoE type of connection.
Right now my router is configured as Automatic DHCP with the modem doing the PPPoE connection. All is fine and well.
Since I own a PS3, and Nat Type 3 conection is really bad for my online gaming, I would like to bridge my modem and connect to the internet through my router. That way I can properly forward my ports, use QoS and effectively get a better connection on the PS3.
I was able to successfully bridge the modem, but the PPPoE config on the router isn't able to connect to the internet.
Modem and router have been reinitialized after the configurations were changed. I do have the username and passwords, and they were properly put on the router.
My linksys router all of a sudden stopped recognizing the 3 LAN lines that are hooked up to it, we are only able to access the internet via wireless. any suggestions on why the router would all of a sudden stop recognizing the LAN lines?
I'm about fed up with with having this issue that no one can seem to solve. It dates back to when I owned a WRT54G router. I started experiencing random disconnects with the router, both wired and wireless. I only owned the router a year and figured it was going bad.
So I purchased this WRT120N router late August. Soon after I set the router up, low and behold the same problem started. I've called my ISP a couple occasions and they tell me that everything is fine from their end. I've spoken with Linksys tech support on 3 seperate occasions. I have changed the MTU to 3 different values and upgraded the firmware. The 2nd support tech suggested that I do those two things. To my surprise this worked for 2 or 3 weeks with no problem. The same problem started again just last night disconnecting intermittingly. I spoke with another support tech and they suggested that disable the SPI Firewall protection and Anonymous internet request. That did not work for the brief time I had this disabled.
More into the problem, when it disconnects the modem seems fine but the activity light on it stops as it should. The router itself appears to reboot, then when it comes back up the connection restores. What could possibly cause this? I currently have version 1.0.02.This is getting very frustrating and I am getting very near not using Linksys/Cisco products any longer.
ive been having a problem with my router since ive been using it for its wireless capabilities. it is a linksys wrt120n router. our internet comes from our local cable provider and it is good internet (10Mb download speed). running to our old router that split the connection between my xbox and our desktop computer worked fine and even for a large amout of time after i switched to this wrt120n there were no internet problems. now all of a sudden the router drops connection multiple times a day which can become a hassle when i'm doing something importaant and lose connection. and just a little bit of extra information i cycle the systems every time it does it and theres no fix.
My cable tv was working great until we just hooked up the wireless internet & it went out, well basically out,its all fuzzy now w barely a picture & no sound,All the wires inside & out seem to be tight & secure,i was trying to figure this out before calling the cable company,i just cant figure it out.
So i have 2 laptops and various phones and iPods hooked up to my network via the wireless and have 3 computers, 2 PS3s, 2 XBox 360s hooked up via LAN cable (These are not always running all at the same time). From time to time (it varies on time of day) the internet disconnects from all the computers in the house but the LAN stays connected. It will sometimes come back online if you wait anywhere from 30 seconds to half an hour at times. Manually restarting the modem by unplugging it for a while and plugging it back in sometimes works, at other times it does not. We replaced the switch and the router so far trying to eliminate them as the problem to no avail. We have not replaced the modem yet. My ipconfig info is below:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6002] Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:UsersMike>ipconfig /all
I just bought a DIR-835 Router. the wireless works good-the problem however is the PC I have hooked up to the cable box, now the internet works only occasionally. I have tried disabling the firewall ,etc. The only time I can get the internet on the cable box connected PC to work is when I reset the router. I have a Gateway PC with Windows XP, I use Google Chrome. I assume it must be a Router setting that needs correcting. My previous D-Link router worked fine with the cable connected PC.
I bought a new Linksys WRT120N modem which is working great, but the wireless for some reason isn't working properly. My computer is able to sense the exsistence of the connection tho. I've tried using other computers to connect to it, and still the same problem, can sense but cannot connect.
I currently have a network using ipaddress 10.1.x.x and 10.2.x.x and 10.3.x.x with a subnet of 255.0.0.0 I purchased 2 of the wrt120n wireless routers for testing and find I can not use the subnet of 255.0.0.0.
