Jul 11, 2012I just upgraded to the EA4500 for added range, etc. I'd like to let TiVo have the 5g side and use the 2.4g side for everything else. How can I even tell which band TiVo is using?
I tried setting TiVo up manually but it won't accept the password/key for the 5g band. I gave up and used the "push button" method, but I have a feeling that puts it on the 2.4g band.I do have two different SSIDs and two different passwords.

Sep 28, 2012I have a Virgin Superhub at home which is capable of 2.4 OR 5GHz wireless. I have a mixture of 2.4 and 5 GHz tech at home so would like to use dual band. My wireless settings on my Superhub modem look like this.As you can see it has settings for 2.4 OR 5GHz and wireless modes of 54, 144 or 300Mbps.
What setting should I be using for my EA4500 to operate in dual band mode? I'm guessing I should put by Virgin Superhub modem in modem mode at 5GHz/300Mbps.I will besetting up seperate SSIDs for 2.4 and 5GHz bands.

Apr 11, 2012I set up my new EA4500 last night, and configured the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands with separate SSIDs (as recommended). While I can see the 2.4Ghz band with all of my devices, I cannot see the 5Ghz band with any of them.I followed the advice given (including the settings shown) on the EA4500 FAQ.Title: Personalizing and connecting to the 5 GHz wireless band on a Linksys Wireless-N routerArticle ID: 21466.Did that *multiple* times, and still nothing. Similarly, I have PCs sitting less than 20 feet away that were previously able to see the 5Ghz band on my old router, but are now unable to see it on the EA4500.

I have managed to get it all connected up and working but am suffering frequent dropouts while streaming music. I have done a little reading and have tried changing a few settings on the router but have found no improvement. My set up is as follows.

-Desktop Computer connected to network via wusb600N dongle
-Airport Express connected via wif
-Using Iphone 4 as remote
Is there a way where i can set up the airport express on a total different frequency to everything else in the house i.e laptops iphones etc to prevent these cutouts.
Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 Some Random Disconnects On Devices Using 2.4GHz Frequency
Jul 24, 2011I just recently (4 days ago) purchased an E3200 router. I noticed some random disconnects on my devices using the 2.4GHz frequency.I installed inSSIDer from MetaGeek to see what was going on and noticed some strange behavior where the Amplitude on the 2.4GHz randomly drops dramatically. Sometimes its once every 10 minutes, other times it happens 5 times in one minute. I can't figure out what is the cause. The 5GHz signal is steady as a rock.
What I tried so far: Set the Channel to the least crowded channel instead of auto, upgraded the firmware, restarted the router all to no avail. This is annoying to say the least. It doesn't affect anything unless you are playing video games or running a remote desktop session, where a single disconnect is disastrous. I just upgraded from an old linksys wrt54g, tried a netgear n600 which was terrible, then swapped it out for the Cisco E3200..

Apr 14, 2010I have the new XBOX 360 black N wireless adapter and the Linksys E3000 dual band router as I want to upgrade the network range and speed to N. I set up a unique SSID and passphrase (WPA2) for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. My XBOX could connect to the 2.4GHz band network and could connect to XBOX Live. But when I configured all the settings and tried to connect to the 5GHz band network, but no luck. My XBOX just said it failed to connect. I was sure that I did type in the SSID and passphrase correctly. I still cannot figure out what went wrong. I even suspected either the wireless adapter or the router malfunctioned.

Apr 30, 2012I got my ea4500 all set up. never had a media servor or anything like that, figured this would be an easier way. when i hook up my exteral i can find it but i can only view the files in windows media player. how can i just browse the folders manually? WMP doesnt let me browse the folders as they actually are on the HDD which is such a pain in the **bleep**.
shows a device in "network infrastructure" but it says problem sending command to the program when i click that. i dont want to have to view the HDD in WMP as a media device...

May 12, 2012My new EA4500 (fw ver 2.0.36) won't obtain an IP from a Brighthouse TM502G cable modem. The EA4500 replaced a functioning WRT54G which would obtain an IP from the ISP. I've tried upgrading firmware and have used both straight-through and crossover cables between the EA4500 & TM502G to no avail. The EA4500 would issue IPs to it's clients, but not obtain one from it's TM502G. At the moment, all 3 are daisy-chained together with the old WRT54G in the middle in order to make the EA4500 work. Both WiFi and LAN ports function in this configuration.

May 6, 2012I'm hoping to get this router to allow WOL (actually wake on WAN) but it seems to be blocking the necessary broadcast magic packet even though the settings appear correct. It's not critical, but the reason is this: I'd like to shut down the home PC, but when necessary be able to start it up and use a VPN to access any info I need remotely.
From within the LAN, I can verity that WOL works. I have NIC and PCI WOL enabled in the BIOS. The NIC (a Marvel Yukon Gigabit) has WOL enabled as well as "allow this device to wake.." using magic packets under power management. The target machine's local IP is reserved through the EA4500 DHCP Reservation table. Just for troubleshooting, I opened port 9 in windows firewall. More importantly, I have ports 7-9 forwarded to my target LAN address. Single port forwarding... it just has been less reliable (?). I'm using a mask of 255.255.255.128 in order to enable broadcasting on .127 at some point as it seems it must be necessary. Broadcasting on .255 is not possible, despite some workarounds I found on the web. EA4500 firmware is the latest, 2.0.37. I have turned off the multicast filter and the anonymous internet filters under the security tab.
So, with these settings, I can WOL from inside the network no problem either targeting the LAN address, or by using a dyndns address. So far so good.With these same settings, I can go to WAN using Depicus or the Cloud Connect Pro app over 4G on an iPad. With all these same settings, WOLsniffer confirms the magic packet still getting through over WAN (obviously using the dyndns address). Even better, I can shutdown the target PC and STILL wake it up within a few minutes from WAN. Let me restate that! Wake up over WAN works, but only for the first few minutes after a shutdown.
However, if I wait 20 minutes or so, WOL stops working. If I change the port forwarding to .127, not only does it not work, but WOLsniffer will fail to see the magic packet. My conclusion is that the ARP table is getting purged, which is undertandable, and so the target LAN address isn't in memory. However, frustratingly the EA4500 will not broadcast no matter what settings you use. This limitation is undocumented, and counterintuitive since the software allows you to disable multicast filtering and does not notify you of an error when forwarding to xxx.xxx.xxx.127 with a 255.255.255.128 mask.

Oct 23, 2012I bought 2 weeks ago a Linksys EA4500 after searching the best Wi-Fi Router all over the net... I choose this cos all over people writed that it was amazing, fast a nd very good coverage all over the house.
Before I had a Buffalo AirStation Dual Band, wich worked perfectly. But since I have several tv and a central NAS whit all films in MKV, I wanted the BEST product for my system, so I choosed Linksys EA4500!
Well, the result is that (when it works it is greate) but sometimes it disconnects and I have to restart it... And second thing that makes me MAD is that the coverage in my house is WORST!! Before my Wi-Fi was present in all the house, now in some parts doesn't work! The position is the exact same of the Buffalo, so it's not a problem of position... I tryed also a router of 40€ and it has a better coverage! How come? how is it possible that a person pays more than 200$ (in Italy it costs 185€) and the result is so BAD??? I'm totaly freak about Linksys now.
Linksys Wireless Router :: Possible To Downgrade New EA4500
Oct 20, 2012I'm in the process of wanting to upgrade my wireless network but I'm not really agreeing to the Cloud Connect, I don't need to have my settings on the internet. I want to manage everything on my own. I've found the following link on the community to be able to put the classic firmware before the cloud connect feature {URL}.
My question now is : If I buy a brand new EA4500, will it still be possible to downgrade to that firmware? No problem with this one? I'm hoping Cisco will continue to publish bug fixing if any to this classic firmware.

Why I cannot go to the 5Ghz band to utilize the superior speeds to transfer files over wireless connection between my computers? I am sure that I am still on the default 2.4 Ghz because
1) The file transfer speeds are pathetic
2) In Wireless Security, if I set the Wireless Mode to disabled for the 2.4Ghz band, Windows shows me "Unsecured Network" even with 2.4Ghz disabled.

Apr 15, 2012I'm using a Linksys E3200 router with a Motorola modem and an elite xbox 360 with a wireless N networking adapter. (Black with two antennas.) I just recently bought this router because I wanted some faster gaming. I wanted to put my xbox on the 5ghz so it would have it all to itself, and have the two laptops share the 2.4ghz. But it won't let me onto the 5ghz band... I can see it on my xbox but it won't connect to it at all. I can get onto the 2.4 band but its at 802.11G, so its not even giving me N there, when it should be. I'm not sure if this is an issue with my adapter or router...I tried finding stuff about it, and it looked like people were blaming it on linksys, but that was almost a year ago. And there was never an update on what happened.I can see the 5Ghz band on my xbox (but only if the channel width is on 20Mhz only), but I can't find it on my computer. Which I find weird. I've been trying a lot of things and I just can't get my laptop to find it. So nothing is using the 5 band, and all my devices are crowded onto the 2.4...Is there some step in setting up the 5Ghz band that I'm missing maybe?
