Netgear WG111v2 Frequent Disconnects From Wireless Internet
Jun 12, 2012
I am using a desktop with a Netgear WG111v2 dongle to connect to my cisco linksys router.Basically my old modem died which was connected to a wireless router so we replaced it with a cisco linksys router and ever since the change ive been having difficulties connecting to internet on my desktop where as the the rest of the laptops in the house have had no problem. In the begining the desktop would always say its had limited connection the the network and such i couldnt connect to the internet but disconnecting the router several times and restarting the computer several times eventually the computer would have full internet access through the network without disconnecting at all.
A few days later the computer starting connecting to the network and gaining full internet access usually without turning of the computer and restarting it although i would disconnect from the internet every now and again for a minute or so and reconnect automatically this would happen more frequently when using Skype or msn messenger extremely frequent when using skype and especially when in a call.ive updated the driver of the wireless dongle to the latest version.my desktop is running vista while the laptops are running windows 7 and mac osx or whatever.ive also download a free version of avast and given a full scan of my computer without finding any threats.

The modem checked out and was all good, the splitters are brand new and the line is apparently fine. This left the router as the issue. We had a Netgear router and attempted to replace it with a Linksys router. The firmware on both routers have been tested both old and new firmware. This happens to all computers/laptops connect to the network I do not receive a message stating that I was disconnected from the network, the internet simple cuts out for a little while and then comes back in.Cox says that they are 100% certain it is not on their end, nor is it the modem. The disconnects occur at random (there is no specific intervals). They last anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes.

Older model Inspiron 1545' using the 1397 WLAN card. Has been working fine, until perhaps the past two weeks. Now it frequently drops out, requiring manual disconnect and reconnect. Tonight Internet very slow on that laptop.
There are other devices using the same wifi (including this iPad used to post this), which connect to the wifi and Internet no issue. To me, its pointing to the laptop - either the WLAN card itself, or something in the laptop starting to fail (the laptop does have issues restarting - where it won't do that unless left for say 30 mins).
I'm suspecting a recent windows update or mcafee security update - no other software has been installed or updated.
I've tried changing antenna setting from auto to aux with no change to the above. Have checked for newer drivers - the laptop reports the version we have is the latest ( from 2009) - although they are the windows driver. Running windows 7, 64 bit - as supplied by dell when laptop was brand new. should I give up on the 1397 card and use another USB wifi adapter ?

I have a computer that I built a few years ago. Not sure of the exact specs, but for this question, I'm not really sure it matters other than the fact that I am a diehard XP fan. Guess which OS I am using. It does not have an onboard NIC, so I am using a NetGear WG111v2 wireless adapter that I got at just about the same time as the computer. I recently moved in with some friends and they have wireless internet. I hooked up my pc, and proceeded to connect to the internet. I got a good connection, but the dreaded "Limited or No Connectivity." First off, I tried disabling the connection and then re-enabling. This had no effect. So, like always, I do a power cycle. Same thing. Ipconfig gives me a 169.254.x.x, nonroutable, ip address. I release and renew. No good. Reset winsock. No good. Device manager says my adapter is working and drivers are up to date. In any case, I uninstall and reinstall it only to find the same results as before. There are three other computers on the network, one of which is my laptop, that all connect and are provided private ips by the router.

We recently converted autonomous 1131APs to LWAP. We have some 802.11b clients that were associated to these APs and they worked fine. Ever since we converted them to LWAP, the clients frequently disassociate and it causes alarms on these wireless clients which are used as monitors.
WCS shows the client disassociation and re-association and it says the roam reason as "unspecified". It associates to the same AP and keeps the same DHCP client address etc. I tried setting a static IP on the client but that did not work. We verified the PSK settings and they all match between the clients and the controller. [code]

I have a Cisco/Linksys E2500 router that I have had for over a year and it has worked without issues for over a year. However my wireless ISP just switched my CPE from A Mikrotik wireless radio to a Ubiquiti wireless radio. As soon as they did this my PPPOE sessions from the E2500 (acting as my PPPOE client) start disconnecting and reconnecting every few minutes causing major problems with my internet and voip connectivity when it looses connectivity every few minutes.
The strange things is if I connect my much older WRT54G router as a PPPOE client (with the same exact PPPOE configuration), it works just fine and I don't have any PPPOE disconnects.
I upgraded to the latest firmware on my E2500 and nothing changed, it still disconnects my PPPOE sessions probably close to 50 or 100 times an hour.
I'm thinking it's some sort of compatibility issue between the Ubiquiti Nanobridge Radio CPE and the E2500 router acting as my PPPOE client. Also another thought was that perhaps my ethernet port wasn't negotiating speed/duplex correctly on the E2500.
Is there any way to hard code the speed/duplex on an E2500? I can't seem to find any spot with that setting.

At our house we have Fast Access DSL through ATT. We are getting very frequent disconnects and lags. We have multiple devices running off of a single DSL modem/router. It has wireless and wired connections available. Our wireless devices disconnect as frequent as our wired devices do. We have called ATT many times. They have had us replace the DSL filters and did a line test outside our house which came back clear. However, when they run a line test while I am on the phone with them, they say they detect multiple errors on the line. We have replaced our DSL modem with a new one as well. It is a NETGEAR VersaLink Four Port Ethernet Wireless Gateway, Software VER:06.04.12. The self-diagnostics on the Modem come back clean with no problems detected. We get static on our phone line frequently as well.

In the technician readout part of my modem I also see this:
1Manufacturer NETGEAR

The internet connects fine, but every couple of minutes it will disconnect for a couple of seconds. It's not a big deal when browsing, but it's disastrous when downloading big files or playing online games. What I've tried so far:
-Resetting the modem. No change.
-Reconnecting the modem/router completely. No change.
-Replacing the main splitter. Slight change, but problem came back eventually.
--Original problem came with the tech's 2 way 5-1002 mhz spliiter.
--I tried replacing it with a 3 way 5-1000 one. The modem on 7db and cable on 7db. It worked fine for a couple of days.
--Problem comes back today. Moving the modem to any of the 3 outputs doesn't fix anything. Moving it to 3.5db actually causes a short timeout every minute when I try to ping yahoo (as a test).
--I've also tried a 2 way 5-900 mhz splitter. It was the worse one of all.
Other info:The internet went down to the entire block at the start of the year. No one knew this of back then so we made a call to comcast, and they scheduled for a tech. A couple days later, we decide to get a new modem from the comcast center just to make sure it wasn't our modem. Some problems with activation prevents us from knowing if it was. We get back online somehow the next day, which is also the same time the tech came. He decides our numbers are weird and adds in a splitter for the internet and tv (which leads into another splitter for each room), and an amplifier for the tv. In the middle of this, another tech stops by and tells us the entire block was down and he said he fixed it now, he doesn't stay long. The first tech finishes installing everything and leaves. All is fine for a couple of days, until a week later and we start experiencing frequent disconnects. We've tried calling comcast again, but they say the connection is fine on their end and the problem is with our router. When I ping the router and the modem directly, there are no dropped connections. It's only when I try to ping anything on the internet when the problem pops up.

I've recently bought an Actiontec V1000H gateway from Telus because my previous gateway burnt out. It seemed to work fine at first, but then I started getting disconnected at random. The only way I have found to fix this issue temporarily is to ipconfig /release and /renew.

So I recently moved a little bit away from where I was. My new area only has one internet provider available called "Hot Spot". We got the 10 down 5 up plan and I get what I paid for in that respect. My issue is that it won't even stay up for longer then 20 minutes. At first I was using the Netgear N750 WNDR4000 router, but I switched over to my ASUS RT-N56U router thinking it might fix the problem. Same thing happening with this ASUS, but when it goes out and I try to load a web page I get the error "you have set the wrong dynamic or static IP address for your RT-N56U." The router setting is set on automatic IP so I'm not sure if that's the problem. I called the ISP and told them I have Dish for TV and they said that is most likely the problem as it can often conflict with the IP or something like that. So I called Dish and they sent me this "Hopper Internet Connector" which supposedly fixes this issue because it directly connects it to the router instead of wirelessly. That still didn't fix the problem. I have tried turning wireless off completely and it still happens. I have reset the router to factory settings probably 4 times. I really don't know what else to do..

I can connect fine to my VM superhub using the above named USB, the internet connection is fine downloading at high speeds and generally surfing the web and streaming media, but as soon as I log a game most notibly World of Warcraft, the USB NIC just drops the internet connection, i have had cmd open pinging a site and i enter game and the pinging fails and once i alt tab back it resumes again, could this be an issue with the fact WoW cause massive CPU Usage or could it be something else im over looking, tried changin numerous features such as channel router broadcasts on removing all firewalls, and updating drivers to switching which usb port it is plugged into and still cant seem to get any luck staying connected when in game.

Every 25 minutes, sometimes sooner, sometimes later but usually on the dot I get limited access and the router interface becomes inaccessible for about 1-3 minutes. My problem is my room mate has left for the week and the router is locked in there. I am unable to connect hardwired or power cycle the router. I have the password for the connect and I just got the PW for the router interface. I also have remote capabilities. I have been trying many things to stop it from being so slow and unstable but basically even though my signal reception is 4-5 bars I am only averaging 11mbps speed. I am using a b/g alfa 1w adapter but this shouldn't be the cause of the slower speeds. I can only achieve 1-3mbps down on speedtest.net whereas before I was getting 6-12mbps down.
-UPnP Off.
-NAT Firewall Open.
-300mbps Max
-Channel 1 no other channels within 5 channels near it.
-WPA2-PSK [AES]
-Default MAC Address
-Automatic Configuring of all IP Addresses
-MTU 1500
-WMM On.
Being limited by lack of power cycle and hardwired connect makes it a little harder. I know it's fixable without that though. Also there is no point of a hardwired connect unless I am upgrading the firmware (it already has the newest firmware by default) because I know it should work fine like that. I have tested connecting to other networks and I do not d/c on them. My own research has shown that setting a static IP resolves the issue. I am unfamiliar with exactly how to set this up for the router and the client and if it involves dealing with the ISP (Comcast)

I have moved into an apartment with 4 friends of mine. We all own HP 6515b Laptop running Windows 7. We connect to the internet through a wireless router. Our connection's name is LINKSYS and is WEP.Once i have connected to the internet, it will continue to work fine for a while. After some random time, it will disconnect.(The computer stays connected to the wireless modem, but computer shows NO INTERNET CONNECTIVITY (in bottom-right taskbar))Then in 5-6 seconds, it will start working again... The only change that is visible is that the exclamation mark on network disappears. The computer remains connected to router for this whole time. Initially we thought it was a problem of our ISP. But later we found out that at a time not all users face disconnection. So at a particular time, it is possible that only I cannot open webpages.

2 brand new routers (BEFSR41 v4.3) Firmware - 2.00.4 Build 8, 10-19-2010 - both same problems:Frequent Internet drops, daily resets required.I'm 99.9% sure there's either a defect in this model, or a serious screwup in this firmware. My router uses an IP address, with DHCP off. Also, we have cable modem. Plugging in directly to cable modem works fine.I am an experienced network admin, so refrain from the usual reset / try again response. Have there been many issues with this model and / or firmware? Have there been many returns?

wireless disconnecting all the time and very slow connection I have a HP Pavilion DV7T-6000 and for the past week, the wireless INTERNET disconnects. If you place the laptop next to the cable modem/router, the connection stay up and the download speed is fast (40+Mbps on a 100 MBps connection. I also, can connect via Ethernet cable and get similar or just a little faster connection. ) If I move the laptop away from the cable modem/router, the connection speed and stability drops. I only have the one wireless laptop this weekend. I will be bring home a different laptop on Monday to verify the cable modem/ router is working properly. I have tried to diagnose and repair, system restore.

I've recently installed the E2500, and it's been mostly great....when it's connected. Set up was easy, all the devices in the house were recognized, the coverage is excellent, and it's nice and fast. But several times throughout the day, the wireless signal will simply drop off. Disconnecting and re-connecting gets it back on, but an hour or two later, it's off again. It;s fairly frustrating because you'll be in the middle of something, and you'll have to manually disconnet, and then reconnect. The status will show as "Local". Running Windows XP with Verizin FIOS. Old Linksys wireless router never had a connection problem.

My Linksys E2500 wireless router frequently interrupts the connection to my ISP. This happens about 2 times an hour. The connections is - due to the automatic reconnect feature - only interrupted for about 20-30 seconds, but is quite unnerving, as it causes downloads to stop, streams to freeze and website loading failures. The reason I know that the connection is interrupted completely is that my IP address changes every time it happens. I know the failure is not on my ISPs side, since the connection does not interrupt when I connect my PC directly to my DSL-Modem (Siemens C2-010-I). The router runs the newest available firmware (1.0.04 build 1 Dec 26, 2011)

In the past everything was working fine (had same computer connected wireless + wire) never had this disconnection. Now, I have a laptop connected using wireless & desktop wired but this disconnection is becoming so irritating. It is not only that I lose the internet connection, I lose the DSL like (as if the modem is turned off then on) and all my files over the LAN are either lost during transmission or something else.

As indicated in the subject, wireless users are finding that it is either unattachable (shows up in the list but fails to attach) or if you manage to authenticate and get in, it's painfully slow or simply drops out. Security is WPA-PSK. Only noticed the issue after a couple of Windows 8 laptops came into the household, but the problem still seems to be there when they are off so not sure if they are connected in some way or not. Updated to the latest firmware - no change. Wired connections are fine and when it's initially restarted, so is the wireless, seems to happen sometime after wireless services are restarted. Only the one Wireless SSID, nothing fancy, max users around 5, all on laptops or the odd pad. I changed channels done narrow wide etc, (using mixed mode - some Wireless N laptops some Wireless B/G. Nothing seems to make any difference. No log entries until the Wireless system is restarted, doesn't require a reboot of the router, just a SUBMIT of the existing wireless settings to force it to restart.

- Small Home-Office network based on a Cisco WRV210 VPN Router connected to another WRV210 in a remote location.
- The WRV210 provides 2 WAP-protected SSIDs, one for the office network and one for visitors
- Wireless channel is set 5 channels away of the closest networks (using inSSIDer)
- There are about 12 wireless devices, 4 connected to the office network the rest to visitors. Not all devices are connected at the time of failure. All wireless devices use DHCP which is set to last 1 day and provide 100 IPs.
- The wireless devices are 1 desktop, 3 notebooks (all clean), iPads, iTouch and Nook.
- The failure symptom is that almost daily, and most likely around the same time, no wireless device can connect to any of the SSIDs unless the router is power-cycled. During the failures, which we have witnessed first hand, there are no apparent reasons: no new SSIDs, now SSID in close range on the same channels, nothing we can easily observed in the network in terms of connections or unusual activity.
- A weirdo also presented by the WRV210 was that its web pages were shown erratically. That was corrected by downgrading the firmware from the latest to previous version.
We have used a loaner Linksys router WRT54GC with only the visitor Network on it and even though the situation is not as frequent, it has happened already a couple of times. The WRV210 is out of warranty and discontinued, so we get no support from Cisco that is worth paying for.
