Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.3 And Windows AD Account Lockout?

Mar 20, 2012

Currently on 5.3.0.40.2 when a invalid password is attempted via TACACS or RADIUS to the AD identity store is locks the account out on the first failed attempt. The AD policy is lockout after three attempts. Is there a way to fix this issue so the account is not locked out with only one failed attempt? I see options for local password policys in ACS but nothing for the identity store. For what its worth this happened also with ACS 4.X deployment before we moved to ACS 5.3.

Network Cards In Windows 7 Networking To XP

Jul 12, 2011

My problem is that my XP network cannot access my Win7 server, but its not the same problem that has so many solutions around on the internet. Here is my situation:I have 2 networks in my office.

-Network1 consists of 3 WinXP machines connected via Router1 to Modem1 to the internet.

-Network2 consists of 7 64-bit Windows7 machines connected via a Switch to Router2 to Modem2 and then to the internet.

I also have a server machine running Windows7 64bit with two network cards. One NIC is connected to Router1, the other connected to the Switch. All of the above machines are all under the same work group: WORKGROUP..My Windows7 machines on Network2 can interact fine with the server. However, my WinXP machines cannot access the server "most" of the time, I've had a rare few occasions where it magically worked.

Networking :: Does MacBook Pro Keep Disappearing From Windows Network OSx 10.5.8

Apr 26, 2011

Running OS X 10.5.8 on an old MacBook Pro on a wireless network. It might be relevant that I recently upgraded the wireless router and the DHCP-assigned IP addresses changed. Before that, everything worked reasonably well.

I can connect to the MBP from Windows 7 computers on the network, logging in with a user name and password, and access the files there as expected.

But the MBP disappears from Windows Explorer after a few minutes. I can usually add it back (always checking the box to remember it) but it just keeps disappearing. Sometimes when it disappears, I can't add it back and when I try, Windows Explorer says, "can't find."

How can I get this share to stick?

I have a Cisco 871w that has been a very great product for many years. I recently switched to Windows 7 x64 on my main machine and now i am having all sorts of issues with it.. I have done a bit of research and found that it appears that it might be the firewall on the SDM that is causing the slowness issues. what does happen is that downloads from known good sites will run really slow. If i hook up my Macbook Pro or my Windows XP laptop i have no issues at all. i have tried Disabling IPv6 as well as SMB2.0 and this has not resulted in a fix at this point.

Home Network :: Ethernet In - Wall Updated With Setup Pictures

Mar 16, 2011

My internet (via wifi) works just fine. But here is the situation that has me baffled-I have a house that has ethernet wired ports in each room, then there is a central hub in my closet. In the hub, I have a grey ethernet cord that is labeled 'service'. This service wire connects to a board that features 12 ethernet ports, 1 of which says 'in', 1 says 'security interface' and has a little nub in it, and the other 10 are not labeled. The grey wire is in the 'in' port.So I am left with 10 ports- port 3 of 10 has a (phone cord size) cord in it, connecting into the 'line' port on my Qwest modem/router. (Qwest set this all up for me, by the way). The modem/router is obviously plugged into the wall. Now- remaining loose in the hub are 9 ethernet cords- 5 blue, 4 green. Each one of these is written on in sharpie, and has a room label on it. 'Family, living room, kitchen, etc...'. So, pretty obvious, I simply found which cord corresponds to the room I am trying to use (family GREEN is one, family BLUE is another). These 2 wires correspond to the top port, and bottom port of a switch plate that is in my family room. Now- inside the closet hub I plugged family GREEN and family BLUE into the back of the ROUTER, ports 1 and 2 (of 4 available). Now- I went back to the wall- connected ethernet wires into the wall plate and then into the ethernet devices I am trying to use (slingbox and directv dvr). Neither are working.

If I go to setup menu on dvr it says it cannot find a network, not getting an ip address. is that the slingbox red lights are both solid (which means there is a connection), and if I go back to the router ETH1 and ETH2 are lit up on the front, again implying that I have a valid connection. This isn't rocket science, but I must be doing something wrong. Are the family GREEN and family BLUE supposed to go into any of the 9 remaining ports that are open inside the closet hub? Because my thought was- let's say hypothetically I wanted to use every available wall jack in my house. There are 9 wall jacks total, but there are only 4 ports on the router. So this would not work. But, there are 9 ethernet ports open on the board in the closet. So I must need to use the ports in the closet, NOT on the router? If so, are these closet ports specific? Because (remember I have a phone like cord coming out of port 3, going into the 'line' port on my router/modem) I took this phone like cord out of port 3, plugged into port 4. and 5, and 6, 7, etc... and none of them would allow my wifi to work- the INT light goes off on the modem/router at that point. But when I plugged back into port 3 (where Qwest originally put it), INT lit back up and wifi worked again. So this makes me think that these 10 (9 remaining) ports are specific somehow? I know this was a lot to read. End result I am looking for- continue to use my wifi on the computer (the ONE place in my house there is no wall jack lol), and connect my slingbox and my directv dvr to the wall jack in my family room so I can (have slingbox) and get On-Demand content for directv.

WND3400 One PC Causing Lag On Network

Jun 12, 2011

I'm using cable (7.5Mbps) w/ unlimited bandwidth . I have 2 wired PC on the network and 4 PCs connected via wireless. My current router is a Netgear WND3400 but I had a Linksys WRT160n v3 previously.

My problem is that I've been getting very high ping in games (PC) and also on my PS3 like > 400ms over the past month but only after like 9:30pm or so. During the day it's always smooth. I called my ISP and they told me everything was fine from their end and the modem too.

1 PC on the network makes the other PCs lag even if that PC isn't downloading or using any bandwidth at all? I did some tests today, like: I open CMD and type: ping -t url... and I get like 6ms but when that particular PC is powered on, the ping increases to > 400ms.

Sharing :: IP Conflict Causing Network To Crash

Jan 9, 2012

I am dealing with three office networks, all three have the same conflict. The error messages I get all say there are two devices assigning ip addresses. As soon as I get the computers communicating with each other, two seem to crash overnight, I suspect due to the conflict. Here is the rundown on the networks. All are windows networks - the problem I am having is file sharing mostly and printing.

Network A: server OS is XP Pro - SP3, four workstations, XP Pro-SP3, Windstream DSL and Netgear Router. I have already bridged the router on this one, and it did not correct the conflict.

Network B: Server OS - Windows7 SP1, three workstations all XP Pro SP3, ISP is Clear (formerly clearwire). Router is the old wired Linksys befsr41 v4.

Network C: server OS - XP Pro SP2, ISP - Clear, three workstations - two are XP ProSP3 one is XP Pro SP2. I have had less trouble with this network, but I suspect the conflict exists here as well.

I have tried to get a static IP address from Windstream where I have had my worst problems, but cannot seem to get one. I suspect we have the least expensive service option possible, and are possibly using a service designed for home use as opposed to business, as someone told me recently that getting a static IP address can be expensive. Is this true? Currently all networks have DHCP enabled, and the routers are set up to use DHCP. My thoughts were to disable DHCP and assign ip addresses manually.

New Computer Causing Internet To Die On Entire Network

Aug 6, 2011

After recently setting up a new computer, my entire network seems to randomly loose internet connection. The interval between connection losses is as short as half an hour but it sometimes goes several hours without dying; the connections is lost for anywhere between 30 seconds and 20 minutes each time it dies. The new computer is running Windows 7 and is using a Roeswill USB wireless adapter, but I have tired it with a wire and the connection still dies. I am disinclined to believe that this is caused by a virus simply because this is a brand new computer that has had only minimal use; to be on the safe side, though, I did do virus scans with multiple programs, however, I did not find anything. When the connection is lost, a yellow exclamation appears on the task bar's internet access icon. If I check my available networks, my network still shows full strength. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting but nothing happens; I don't get any "failure to connect" type errors nor do I get connection back. I have also tried physically removing the adapter/wire and plugging it back in, but that doesn't do anything either.

I am under the impression that the new Windows 7 computer is doing something to temporarily kill the entire network, but I don't know what. For the record, my modem is an old Motorola and my router is an old Netgear. Both are quite a few years old, but I don't think they are the problem as my internet was fine before I added the new Windows 7 computer. There are wired computers and wireless computers running XP, Vista, and 7 also on the network.

Computer Causing Internet To Be Slow On Entire Network

May 4, 2012

I have 2 computers on a network, and 3 devices that use wifi on the same network. Basically when ever computer A is connected, every single computer or device on the network runs extremely slow, if at all. I get anywhere between 1200-2000 ping on pingtest with 2-60% packet loss. Even the speed on the "infected" computer A downloads extremely slow. I'm at a loss for this problem, everything runs slow and its because of the one computer connected to it. I have virus software on this computer, but its not the best so i'm not ruling out malware or viruses right off the bat.

Devices: Blackberry, Iphone, macbook (all wifi)
Computer A
Runs windows xp 32 bit,
amd processor
onboard video

[code].....

The internet modem runs to a router (Dlink dir615) then to a switch (or hub, if you will) and then to the 2 computers. The entire problem is solved by unplugging computer A from the system. But other than that I have no alternative.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560G-48PS-S - PoE Lockout After Power Outage

Oct 27, 2011

We had some problems with 3560G-48PS-S switches and PoE for our phones. IOS is 12.2(50)SE3. There were some problems after power outage. The switches didn't reboot because we have two eletric circuits. But after the problems we had no PoE on all ports.

The switches logged to following syslog message:

%ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi0/17: Power Controller reports power supply VDD under voltage

I can't find any informations in the error message decoder for that. But there was another thread here with quiet the same message, but another problem regarding RPS2300.

After reloading the device all works fine again. The workaround with the commands "power inline never" and "power inline auto" I didn't know till today.

Some information about that syslog message?

My guess is that there was a voltage swing and the switch powered down its supply? Is that possible?

Computer On The Network Causing High Latency - ARP Floods And Name Queries

Jan 26, 2013

Recently me and my girlfriend have been having issues with in game latency, receiving pings close to jittering to well over 300 where they were formerly in the 30-40s to identical servers. We live with a Chinese housemate who is extremely conscious of her privacy/personal space, we noticed a dirge of active ports on the router (both TCP and UDP) which seemed to have no association with any major application and assumed it was the old P2P boogie-monster. She is the only one who uses Wifi, an upon briefly deactivating the Wifi, all ping issues were instantly resolved. The bizarre thing is we still have plently of up/download bandwidth, I mean we're not swimming in a fibre optic connection but still a relatively healthy 1MB dl/70KB/s ul, more than enough for gaming.Deciding we needed a better idea of what was going on in the network, we downloaded Wireshark. We discovered a couple of things that might mean something, they might mean nothing at all:Firstly there was a deluge of random ARP requests coming from the suspect IP, something along the lines of:"who has 192.168.0.(random number) Tell (suspect computer's IP)"repeated over and over in bursts. A little googling found us this: Has Your Network been Now given that she is Chinese and is probably exposed to a lot of Chinese websites, is there any chance that this could be the root cause - could it drown the network to the extent that it produces terrible pings?Secondly there have been an inordinate amount of name queries coming from her IP to 192.168.0.255 (broadcast channel), they generally take the form of:

NBNS92Name query NB WPAD<00>

or

NBNS92Name query NB ISATAP<00>

and occasionally, it will name query my network id, leading to: (her ip being 192.168.0.3)

2144211275.734470000192.168.0.3 192.168.0.255NBNS92Name query NB (my id)<20>
2144231275.739314000192.168.0.3 (my id)TCP6658451 > netbios-ssn [SYN] Seq=0 Win=8192 Len=0 MSS=1460 WS=4 SACK_PERM=1
2144251275.741325000192.168.0.3 (my id)NBSS126Session request, to (my network id)<20> from (her network id)<00>
2144271275.744124000192.168.0.3 (my id)SMB213Negotiate Protocol Request

[code]....

Now combine this with the sometimes 9-10 active ports our router assigns to her IP (which don't appear to relate to anything according to numerous port id sites), does this send out a red flag to any of you? I realize it would be so much easier if I could get access to her computer, but as I said, she is very private and timid and doesn't seem to like even having people in her room, let alone letting them use her computer.

Networking Between Windows 7 And XP

Sep 11, 2011

Trying to network between a Windows 7 computer and a Windows XP computer is possibly the hardest thing I have ever done.I have googled for hours and hours and none of the solutions seem to be working.I will try to explain what I have already done. Although I have done loads and I am sure I am missing some things.I have a Windows 7 laptop and for this exercise I shall call it WIN7. I have a Windows XP computer and for this exercise I shall call it WINXP.Both computers are in the same network which I have called SAMNETWORK. I have enabled permission to Everyone in folder sharing settings on WIN7. I have turned on Sharing and I have made myself discoverable with no password set on Network and Sharing Advanced Settings. Both user accounts on the XP and 7 machines are the same and both passwords are the same. I have turned all firewalls off. The WINXP computer has sharing enabled.

I have done a lot more things including installing LLTP (sp.?) and changing registry entries like Lsa/anonymous something like that (can't remember the actual directory) but I have changed registry entries as I have read elsewhere on the web and I have changed the network from home to work but that did nothing etc. etc. But everything that everyone suggests is just not working and I have been looking for about 4 hours now so you can imagine I have tried everything I have found!Anyway, my 7 laptop can see WINXP but when I click on it, it states that Windows cannot access \WINXP. The WINXP computer can see shared folders from WIN7 but it also states that it is not accessible. However, I did once get the WINXP computer to access the WIN7 shared folders. However, that doesn't even work now. I need the WIN7 to access the WINXP files. [code]

Networking XP With Windows 7 Machine

May 4, 2012

I am trying to link a Windows 7 machine with a laptop running Windows XP. The workgroup on both computers is the same. On the Win7 machine, I have a couple of folders set to be shared. The first is the C Drive and the share name is C-drive. The second is Quickbooks that I have named Quickbooks. On the XP machine, I went to map network drive and in the blank typed \Remote1C-drive. It asked for username and password and just like that we were connected. But I can't see all of the files on this drive. I don't even see all of the folders - one of which is Quickbooks. So I tried \Remote1Quickbooks and Windows XP couldn't find that path even though I'm positive that folder is shared on Win7. So no matter what I try, I can't see this folder on the XP machine, I even tried copying this folder to other locations around the computer and setting up shares in hope that something would work, but it never did. So I went back to the C Drive share on the XP machine. I tried to go in reverse, creating a file and putting it on the root of the c drive (I did this on the XP machine, but the file should have actually been located on the Win7 machine. When I check Win7, the file didn't exist. So I tried the other way. I right clicked on the c drive in Win7 and created a new bitmap image file. Back to the XP laptop, that file doesn't show. But if I look at the c-drive on Win7 from the xp machine, I see several other folders and some of them like Program Files contains actual files. But some of them are just empty such as \Remote1C.
