It keeps saying the connection between the modem and the computer is broken. I've installed a new ethernet cable. it works then it drops. we have hughes net here. the techs have been out and cannot isolate the problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently reformatted an old hdd and i've installed windows xp professional on it and as usual the first thing that came to mind was to go on the internet to download all the drivers i needed. I ran into my first problem, apparently i can't access the internet because i don't have the driver that allows me to use the internet. I've downloaded the same driver that i had on the other hard drive, but it's just not doing anything, i can't create a Local Area Network in my connections. I'm on the same computer as said computer, except different hard drive. Don't have any of the cd's nor do i know which drivers were installed on this hard drive.

Both the computer rooms are connected via optical copper can we use that copper to connect the circuit on CR2, as per my understanding we can use the optical fiber to connect the wind circuit on secondary router on CR2 by using the media connector.

I just installed nVidia Nforce drivers for my Asus 750i motherboard, I show I have internet connection, however I can not get windows to pull up a site. TRIED everything reset modem, router, checked all settings. When I pull up the networking system information, it states connection status: disconnected via the Nvdia controll panel. How do I disable the power management feature that slows my NIC down when I am on battery power?
I have a dell e6500 with a Intel 82567LM Gigabit LAN card that always connects at 10Mbps when I plug in the ethernet cord when I am on battery power, I've tried using different routers (I have two gigabit routers and one 100 mbps router)... it still auto-negotiates at 10 mbps I've tried using different cat6 cables, it still auto-negotiates at 10 mbps.I've checked the drivers, I have 10.0.6.0, which is the latest from the support.dell.com website.
However, the minute I plug in the laptop, the NIC connects at the proper speed. Essentially, when the laptop is using battery power, the NIC decreases it's speed to 10 mbps. When I plug the laptop in, the speed jumps up to what it should be (either 100 mpbs or 1 Gbps, depending on which router I'm plugged in to).
So, how do I disable this feature? I want to connect at the maximum possible speed, regardless if I am plugged in or not.
I just ran some speedtests om my PC on the advice of my isp to see if my Linksys WRT54G router might be bad. As a result, I found that the router might not be entirely bad, but it might not be entirely good, either. I got .77 Mbps dowload and .17 Mbps upload on the first speedtest. I got .43 Mbps download on the second speedtest and the speed test hung hear the end. When I connected an IMac to the cable modem with an ethernet cable, the IMac ran strong. So the tech thought I should get a new router.
But wait a minute, isn't there a network adapter in the PC that the router talks to? Might the adapter be the problem, not the router? So I speedtested the wireless network to the IMac. That speedtest was fine, tiptop, like the ethernet direct connection test noted above. Did that tell me that the problem is in my PC network adapter, not the router? Then, I retested (speedtested) the connection on the PC and it was fine...excellent. Good up and down speeds, no hangs.Then, I checked the PC adapter (a Belkin). I saw three adapters on Device Manager, including the Belkin. I downloaded new drivers for the adapters (except for the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Minipoty Adapter - because it got a warning that the download software wasn't signed and might harm my computer).
So I have installed my new E4200 version 1 and I am disappointed with the speeds. My computer has a wireless N card and gigabit Ethernet compatibility. I am currently getting a miserly 54 mbs wireless and 100 mbs on the wire (connected with cat6 all the way)... Anything I should try to get close to advertized speeds?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just wired my house and have a cisco 2950 switch running in the basement. every rj45 jack in the house works with everything except one computer. we have a HP with an nforce 4 chipset. this computer was connected through a hub and to a netgear router using the wires in the walls, the same wires and ends this switch is connected trough now. This computer stoped detecting a connection when we moved it off the hub and to the switch. all the ends and punch downs are using B wiring pinout. I have tried a new cable, when i plug any cable from the wall jack to this laptop it works, when i move the same cable to the HP it does not detect any cable plugged into it. when i setup ICS on this laptop it will connect and does detect the connection with the same cable running from the wall jack to the HP that it previously did not detect.perhaps the HP wants to use the 2 pairs that are other wise dormant? im about to install a new nic and see what that does but i can not understand why the Nforce nic would not connect to a cisco switch

Both are sending out signals, the CG3100 on channel 11 at 40 Mhz and the WNR2000 on channel 1 at 20/40 Mhz. I keep the WNR for legacy devices while the CG is for N devices only. They don't seem to interfere with each other much.Currently my computer is the only device connected to the modem wirelessly, with the only wired connection being the router. As I write this, the connection has actually dropped to 26 Mbps in the Wireless Network Connection Status window. I understand that this number drops under network load, but there doesn't seem to be any at the moment. If I go into the control panel and simply click apply, the connection jumps back up to 150 Mbps. However, this always drops back down, sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few minutes. It usually settles down at 72 Mbps, sometimes 54 Mbps.My wireless adapter is an ASUS PCE-N13 with v3.2.7.0 Ralink drivers. OS is Windows 7 64-bit.

I recently acquired a new mobo to tide me over until I can get the spare money to order a new one (which probably won't be until after the first of the year) however, the board, while better than what I had, has some problems hence why I got it so "cheaply". The problems I had with it have been fixable/liveable with. Anyways, here's a description of my problem and some brief applicable system specs.
The ethernet port on this board was bad, knew that from purchase date. However I ordered a brand new card (10/100MB NIC PCI Ethernet Card), installed it, and the drivers all loaded, and the card is listed as working properly. I have no internet connection or network connection even listed. The way my system runs is as follows.
Computer/Ethernet Card -> Cat5 -> ASUS Router -> Cat6 -> ISP Router -> Outside
I have tried hard lining it direct from the ISP Router as well to no avail.I've even tried using the ipconfig.exe commands. Including /release, /flushdns, /renew. But, whenever I open the DOS panel with the command it just disappears in a millisecond.I know the PCI port on the board isn't bad because I literally just removed my USB expansion card from it to install this one. I even tried switching it with the other 2 PCI cards I have installed and they all work perfectly so it's not the PCI slot.
I just upgraded my cable modem from the Motorola Sufboard 5120 to the DOCSIS 3.0 capable 6120. Provisioned it with Comcast and their "Blast" service (supposedly it caps at 16 down, 2 up).
I had, in the past, used my desktop via N-format wireless (DWA-525 N-format PCI adapter and DIR-655 N-format router) to do a speedtest.net test. I was getting 16 down and 2 up (as advertised). When I switched to the 6120, I did a speedtest.net test again to see what kind of gains, if any, I was getting. Turns out, I was getting 20+ down (nice improvement) and 1/2 Mbps up (a fourth of what I used to be getting?). Called Comcast. They "sent signals" (don't they always?) and claimed that it fixed it. My download speeds increased a smidge (about 22), but my upload speeds were still .5. Called Motorola, they had me do a few things and now I get 1 Mbps up and 27 - 30 down via wireless.
My download speeds are great. I'm content with that. If I hardwire from the cable modem directly to a ****py old laptop, a speedtest.net shows 4 Mbps up. So why do I get such a high upload speed when hardwired (4 Mbps), but a fraction of it (1/4th) when wireless? I'm not using any other devices to sap bandwidth (some are connected -- i.e. another desktop, my Droid phone, etc., but aren't actively pulling packets). And why would it go from 2 up (on my desktop via wireless in the past) to only 1 up (via wireless now) when the setup is the same across the board (as best I recall) other than upgrading my cable modem.
Since I get 4 up when hardwired straight off the cable modem, I assume my DIR-655 is slowing me down somehow. How to pick up the pace a bit? I've already tried the standard "power cycling", etc.
Oh, and the reason I go wireless -- my cable modem and wireless router are in my game room in the basement for my PS3. My desktop computer (and the wife's desktop computer) are two floors directly above it in our "office". Signal strength is "excellent" ... always has been. And again, pretty much everything is the same.

I've been having some problems with my Ethernet connection lately.The problem started early last week. I'm currently relocating, so I unplugged my laptop from the Ethernet connection I had at my old place.At two different locales, I have tried to use an Ethernet connection in order to get better speed (the wireless at the first locale was non-existent and at the second it is extremely slow in my room). I have done so with two separate cables that I have tested on others' computers and found that they are perfectly fine. That, of course, leads me to believe that it is my computer and is either a hardware or software problem (here's hoping it's the latter).Anyway, my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1720 (purchased in 2006). About a year ago, I updated to Windows 7 from the pre-installed Vista. Never had any problems (as I said, everything was fine up until about a week ago). The installed card is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. Everything under Device Manager indicates that the hardware is working properly and has all of its drivers installed, but nothing is working.I have tried to uninstall and re-install the drivers (albeit by allowing windows to find them automatically), but the result is the exact same.I have checked the port and found that there is no debris or obstructions. My computer hasn't been dropped or mishandled in any way.

The indicator lamp shows 1000 Mbit/s.

View 4 Replies View RelatedA few days ago my mother's computer suffered a burned out motherboard ethernet adapter due to the PPPoE box on the roof of our building getting hit during a thunderstorm (apparently). I decided to buy a separate ethernet card, as her computer had a PCI slot free at the time - why not use it? I ended up buying a cheapo D-Link DFE-520TX. Anyway, I took it home, booted up the computer (running Windows XP with SP2 I believe) and installed the drivers supplied with the card. The instructions clearly stated to install drivers first, then physically install the card. I did so - everything went smoothly, popped the card in, booted the computer up again. Card was found, no problems. Except when I plugged the network cable in, the card remained idle. No blinking green activity light, no reaction from the Local Area Connection on the computer, nothing. Device Manager/Properties tells me everything is working just fine - except that the card itself doesn't "work". Took it back to the store, they plugged it into their test machine - everything worked just fine, green light blinking, internet access, etc. I've since tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device, swapping PCI slots (the second one is taken up by a Sound Blaster Pro). No dice - the audio card works in either slot, the network card doesn't work anywhere.

I live in apartments that provide internet to everyone that lives there, and had been living here for a few months before this started happening.I now constantly have my internet crashing in the middle of browsing/gaming. I will either open up my laptop to the internet not working already, or it will work, but crash randomly while I am using it.
Trying to load a page on google chrome, it will show a message saying DNS Lookup Failed, and an icon will pop up in the right corner of my screen with a yellow (!) triangle. If I hover over it, it will say no internet access.I've followed the few steps they had on there, but none of them worked. I've never had a problem like this before, and haven't made any modifications to anything on my computer lately, so I am pretty confused as to why this is happening. I know it is something on my end, because my roommate's internet is just fine, and even used my ethernet cord on her computer, and no problems at all.
