Printer Interferes With Internet Access?
Apr 11, 2013
I have a gateway PC running win Xp. Also a dell color laser printer connected to a wireless router, which works fine wirelessly off the PC. I also have a canon laser printer connected to the router exactly the same way. Problem is (1) canon won't print unless I connect it to the pc's USB port and (2). If I leave that printer on it eventually (not right away) results in loss of Internet on all wireless devices. Wireless access is there, but data won't load?

I recently opened the ports used by Xbox Live: Port 88 (UDP)Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)Port 53 (UDP and TCP)Port 80 (TCP)I am able to use xbox live once these ports are opened but once they are enabled, I can not get wireless internet. The xbox is connected to the router with a cable so it isn't experiencing this probem. My laptop and phone are able to identify the network and join but there is no internet access.
If I disable these ports, everything goes back to normal.

I've got a Linksys E2000 router and a Brother MFC-7840W wireless printer and they don't seem to want to play nice together. The set-up process was fine and I can usually print wireless without a problem, but every so often I'll try to print and my computer will say that the printer is offline. Other computers on my network also show it as offline. The printer confirms it has an IP address, but even after power cycling it won't be picked up by my machines. I've even tried a full reset of the printer and re-configured it, at which point it is able to successfully obtain an IP address, but it still shows as offline on my PCs.
The only solution I have found is to powercycle the router. This always works. Now that's not a terribly inconvenient workaround most of the time, so I've been doing that for a few months now. It obviously implicates the router as the point of failure, but wireless internet access is not affected when the printer appears to be offline, so obviously some packets are getting through normally.

I have 4 computers (3 laptops, 1 desktop) in a shared office. We get internet access using their wireless network. All works fine. However, I need to share a printer amongst all of the computers. The printer is LAN enabled and I would normally just put all the PCs on a hub, together with the printer and share it that way. BUT my question is can we access the internet using the wireless network and the printer using a separate wired network at the same time?

I am using a Macintosh (Lion) on a wireless network. I want to print to a printer on land line ethernet. I have the printer's IP address. I attempted to add the printer on the Macintosh using first LPD protocol and then IPP protocol. Neither worked.I chose Autoselect to select the driver and it would revert to Generic PostScript Printer. When I selected Add, screen said "Setting up " with the IP address for a while and then said "Unable to verify the printer on your network"

I am trying to share a printer on Windows Server 2003 machine so that my other computers can access the print share from my server. originally i was hosting the print server from one of the workstations (running Windows XP SP2). I now want the printer share to be hosted from the server. I set up the printer correctly (to my knowledge). i was able to set it up and print a test page. But when i go into properties and attempt to share the printer, i click on Share this Printer and enter in a name, i designate it to list the printer in the directory. Then i click apply and ok... and nothing happens. the printer is not shared. When i go back into properties, it shows that i am not sharing the printer.

My Canon MP495 3-in-1 inkjet XPS printer is connected through my mother's computer, and up until a few days ago I was able to print from it through our Home network. My mother can still print from it directly, so it is not a hardware issue. On my computer when I go to print, underneath the printer selection it says server offline. I have checked both computers and they are both on the Home network with all sharing options on. I can see her media and documents from my computer and she can see mine vise-versa. When I open the Network and Sharing Center and view the full network map, my mother's computer runs to a question mark then to the router, while mine is shown to be fine. When you click on the router within the map it brings up a page saying "Important Update. To avoid a conflict with your Internet Service Provider, your router's IP address has been updated to 10.0.0.1. You must now update the IP addresses in your router's configuration settings for each relevant service, such as port forwarding and IP address reservation." I do not know if this is the problem and it is starting to go beyond my realm of understanding. Also, possibly related, we had a bad storm that did NOT knock our power out, but the internet went down and we had to reboot the modems. This occurred right before the problems began. Last piece of information: We are going through 2 routers due to lack of jacks in the house. The line goes through the first router which connects to a second one in the back of the house. Both computers are linked to the second router, and it is the second router which shows on the network map. I go to an online college and it is necessary for me to access the printer.

Uninstalled McAfee. Installed Frontier Secure, which uses the Windows Firewall. Received Windows Security Alert message that my Belkin USB Storage Center (where the printer is listed) was being blocked, and would I like to allow access. I selected "Allow Access". Printer has not been connecting all week. No error messages - it tries to connect, and then just stops. Can't find issues with the router or the printer - only with the firewall. Everything looks the way I assume it should - the printer is listed in the Belkin storage center. The Belkin storage center is listed in the firewall. There is no tech support for the firewall. There is no tech support for the printer.

I have recenly installed a RV082 with two ADSL modems connected to Broadband lines. Access to our networks is done via VPN accounts configured on Windows Vista laptops. The VPN network works fine and everyone has access to their network data and the Intranet/Internet.
I'm having problems with connecting a network printer to access over the VPN. We have managed to get a IBM1532 network printer working using the following network details by allowing the IP address of the printer through our VPN network/firewall.
We had to connect a Xerox C2424 workstation printer on site, so we configured the device using the same network details as the IBM printer, connected it to one of the available ports on one of the Broadband modems but we could not get the printer to be seen or connected to using this setup.
However I connect my own Home Laptop PC configured with the IP port settings above directly to the same modem as the Xerox printer this works but only after we changed the IP gateway address on the printer to match the modem.
If I switch on DHCP on the printer it finds the IP gateway address of the RV082 but will not allow us to send anything to it.As the ADSL lines are on a Dynamic IP rather than Static.

Problem with that is they don't have CD drives. Am I thinking along the right lines here? If so, is it possible to drag the info onto a memory stick, insert into laptop and off I go?

The Guest Access is a very nice feature for allowing us to provide Internet access in our rental unit.
However, it would be nice to provide the Guests access to the USB printer.
Is there a way to provide access to the USB printer for those who are logged into the "Guest Network"?

The other links e.g. status, information and security seem to work OK provided they are aceessed before I select the settings link. One the lights have started to flash I have to switch off the adapter and switch back to restore the connection to the network. The adapter is connected to a BTHomehub. Other than this issue the printer works fine through the network.

I just bought a WRT54GL which is working perfectly. I needed it to extend my home network for my kids (I have not a very fast internet connection and my kids are eating all of it... With the WRT54GL I can choose how much they can have. So my own network has a netgear modem and a netgear wifi access point which is in this network : 192.168.0.x.
This network is not blocked in any way (just password protected). For my kids network, the WRT54GL gives addresses in this network : 192.168.1.x and is limited in speed. Everything is perfect, I have internet connection on both of my network, There is just the problem that I cannot access my printers, my servers, my computers.... that are on the 192.168.0.x network from 192.168.1.x. Is there a solution ? I already tried to force the WRT54GL to go to 192.168.0.x network but no more connection. Should I "bridge" the two networks ? How can I do it ?

I have 2 desktops (running windows 7), a Canon MF8300 printer, and an outgoing ethernet line, all on a Netgear Advanced Cable Modem Gateway CGD24-CPR. I'm only concerned with having the 2 desktops set up with the Canon printer. Both computers have been connected to the printer before and I have the startup disk. But once the new offices were set up and both of the desktops were moved, I can no longer access or find the printer.
I can IPconfig the Desktops for their IPV4 addresses and both desktops recognize eachother on a Homegroup, but I can't find the printer. I printed off the print configuration page from the printer which gave me an IP address (printer is set for auto-obtain), but using an IP search won't bring up the printer. All of the devices are plugged into ethernet ports set up for the three different office they are in and the actual location of the Netgear cable modem/router is over 100 feet away. My primary concern is getting the printer for the desktops, but I also need to add a wireless router into one of those office in the future.

This is very frustrating. I need to know how to fix this as soon as possible.I have a Netgear WNDR3700v3 wireless router. My computer is an Alienware X51.
