Reinstalled Windows XP - Can't Get Internet Working?
Jun 9, 2011
I reinstalled windows XP on my computer using the install disk I got with my computer. However, now I can't get on the internet on that computer to update the drivers, and I can't find anything that'll let me do it without internet.I don't have an independent network card, just what's built into my motherboard. Haven't been able to find the driver for it, only programs that will find it for me, using said internet.

Recently had to reinstall windows vista on my inspiron 1501. All is okay now except I cannot connect to the internet. Technically I am connected to the wireless network but I cant get on the web. Im going around in circles following error msgs but they all seem to point to an issue with DNS. Ive run cmd to save time.

On receiving my new dell vostro 3550, I reinstalled the windows 7 cd that came with the computer.
Before I did, I had internet connection, now I don't.
It says it finds no device. All i did was install windows. What else do I need to do for it to recognise the devices are on the system?

(After rechecking my OS Resource CD, i realized there was a second section on it that had the last few drivers xD) Ok, so i recently posted about an OS problem that was solved, however, after installation i cannot connect to the internet on my PC.i reinstalled the drivers and all, but it doesn't connect (all wires connected and in place)do i need to do something in the computer to connect to the internet? When I check ipconfig in the cmd prompt it jsut says "Windows IP Configuration" and no information appears after that.
Also when i check the device manager , my network adapter is installed but there are 4 yellow questions marks on:
"ethernet controller"
"multimedia audio controller"
"PCI device"
SM Bus Controller"

I re formatted the hard drive, reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.I go through the setup process and everything like normal. I plug my ethernet cable into the back of the computer, and the other end into my router so I can use a wired connection.I go to network settings there are no networks available, so I go to my device manager to look for missing drivers, I installed the Ethernet Controller driver. I look at my manager again and under "Network Adapters" I have Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection. I have been expiriencing some connection problems lately. I noticed it after I reinstalled xp on one of my computers. Here is the issue: I have 2 desktop pc's using a modem that goes to a router. From the router the cables go to each computer. Before I did the reinstall I had made a home network so I could access files from each computer. I also have a laptop that I connect with using the network i created. Now after the reinstall of xp, the connections seems to not work, then work, then not work. My other desktop works like normal as well as the laptop.I can even see the name of my network when I connect through my laptop. Now I can't remember how to add my computer back into the network.

I ended up having to reinstall windows xp because my explorer.exe file was corrupted, now windows is working again but my laptop does not give me any options for a wireless connection. If I plug an ethernet cable from my router to the laptop it works fine, but it wont find the router wirelessly. so i deleted and reinstalled the modem drivers which caused a popup when windows was restarted, it says:The file 'ptserli.sy_' on disk 1 is needed.Type the path where the file is located, then click OK

I had installed the wusb54gc wireless adapter on my desktop and I have not used the computer in a year. When I tried to connect to the internet I couldn't. the adapter was in the network, now it is not. Now all I get is unknown device. I downloaded the drivers from Linksys removed the unknown device from the usb listing and used the utility to unstall the adapter drivers. Followed the instruction to install new drivers but after restarting the computer the only thing that is there is the unknown device. On this computer the OS is Me.

I have a WMP54GS Installed in a SONY VAIO with a Pentium 4 2.6 ghz processor, 2 gb of DDR Ram, and Just over 60 GB of Hard Drive space. I've run this setup for over two years at this point, all on an XP operating System, from sp1 all the way up to sp3 with no issues. A week ago I ended up with a trojan on my system, and had to do a full recovery. This time I used an XP Pro copy that came with sp2. Not the same copy of XP that had been running previously. Needless to say when I had the OS finally installed and running, it didn't recognise my wireless adapter. I figured I needed to run through the same process as I had when I first purchased the adapter, and took the card out, ran the intsallation disc, followed the intructions, powered off, and reinserted the card. When I booted back up, there was simply a gray box in the lower left showing "disabled". I clicked on it, and it showed that there were no networks in range, when there should have been several. The only tab on the screen that I was able to click was "exit". I wasn't able to perform manual setup, and when I clicked the "xp setup" option, nothing happened. I was unable to find the device in the device manager (though it may be in the "other devices" list with a question mark, but I can't tell. Would it be something like "network controller" or "ethernet device"?) It doesn't appear in my network connections either. The LED on the card itself is dormant. Nothing happening. I figured at this point that it must not be fastened adequatly to the PCI slot. So I opened the case, took the card out, and fastened it back in nice in tight. No more give, and in the same slot it had always been in when operating properly. Still the same issue. I've done this a couple more times now, and with the same results. I just don't get it. I've followed the intrsuctions to the letter, and no results. Do I perhaps need to skip the cd and try to install the latest drivers for the card instead? Will that allow my PC to recognise it? I have another machine in my home, and can download a driver and transfer it by disc or flash drive to the other machine if need be.

I recently reinstalled XP but 8 yrs ago Dell forgot to give me a drivers/utilites disk (I got 2 for the monitor instead).I downloaded the ethernet driver from my other computer via USB, installed it and since I now had internet access, I was able to directly download the remaining drivers via my service tag Computer & all programs are running like new again, but I KNOW my 3000 had wireless before but under Device Manager/Network, it only shows an Intel PRO/100 VE (my original paperwork say Intel PRO/100M). I know it had wireless before - my ASUS router wasn't wired to the computer and internet access was great. I want to ditch the pesky cord again.

My computer is only one month old. I did a clean install of Windows 7 on it and a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 (dual boot). With Ubuntu, the wireless works without issue. In Windows, the connection is fine through a cable, but wireless networks are not detected at all. Since I did a clean install, I had to install drivers manually. I got these from the Samsung website (my laptop is a Samsung Q430). I think that my Wireless card is Broadcom but I am not sure. The wireless did work at the start, but there were connectivity issues, and so I removed the wireless driver from the device manager and reinstalled the Broadcom drivers. Now I can't get any wireless at all in Windows.
I think I may be missing some drivers, but I'm not sure. I have the Broadcom Wireless Utility but I can't get it to do anything useful. Right now I'm connected through a cable. Here is the result of ipconfig[CODE]

I am having problems with any type of Network Card or Network USB adapter working with my PC running Windows 7. I had a LinkSys WMP54G PCI card working on this computer about a year ago as I was needing to use a wireless connection but then I didn't use it for 6 months. When I went to use it again, it wouldn't pick up connections at all.Thinking it was an issue with the card, I picked up a Edimax 7612UAn USB adapter thinking it should work out of the box. When I plug the USB adapter in, the standard Windows driver installation tries to run but an error message occurs stating "Device driver software was not successfully installed" accompanied by "Realtek RTL8191SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB Failed". If I try to install the drivers manually, nothing changes and in Device Manager the following error message is displayed under Device Status "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)".

I buy the Huawei K3765 USB Modem (unlocked, so I can use all operators).
After I plugged it in, it installed the Mobile Partner Software succesfully. The phone and SMS function is running well. I can call and text someone through the modem.
But the problem is when I tried to connect to the internet it shows error message:
Error 31: A device attached to the system is not functioning
I have tried the modem on another computer (Windows XP and Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit too) and it worked well. For information my notebook is ASUS K42JR, OS Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.

I used the wireless adapter (Netgear - WG111v3) on my computer for weeks without any trouble at all. (At the time i installed it, I remember I found out it didn't work/didn't work well on windows 7 so I downloaded some driver or something -- Don't really remember -- and it worked fine.) Suddenly, today, it stopped working. I have tried a lot of drivers and even tried installing Vista 64 bit drivers but it won't work. The adapter is recognized by the computer, but the smart wizard won't launch.
