View 4 RepliesI have 2 SSIDs mapped to 2 VLANs (other VLANs are configured, but not used) Security is set to WPA2
What do I need to change to get higher connection speed? What is the highest for this model? Why won't it let me select 40Mhz channel width? Telnet says on 20Mhz available (GUI says it is in "Least congested" mode even though it is not)
I set up one AP-1041 that runs standalone IOS. No controller. I have three more that I want to copy the setup configuration over to. I have the right document, but which commands will get my set configuration from AP one FTP'd to my computer and how to copy that configuration back to another AP of the same model. This way I will only need to tweak a couple settings on the additional AP's instead of starting from scratch.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have done a wireless site survey at a library and one AP541N will cover everything pretty well. They do have one spot where the radio strenth is not quite as strong, but you would never buy a second access point for just that one area. I did the SIte Survey using a 541N Access point.
Here is my question. I see that the Aironet 1041 is very similar in price and according to the documentation has a stronger power rating and higher antenna gain. Why would I not buy an Aironet 1041?
We are just mounting to a wall and are planning on using the pwrin4 to provide POE for whichever we buy.
I am trying to setup a Cisco Aironet 1041 on my network for WiFi authinentication and access and I do not have a Radius server and was wondering if it is possible to configure the 1041 to authenticate with just WPA or WPA2 and a PSK without any of the other configurations? This setup is only going to be temporary untill I can get the appropriate infrastructure in place to facilitate the Radius server setup I really want in 12 to 18 months from now.

I've just recently purchased the Aironet 1142n and am hoping to set it up as a repeater. I've followed the documentation here: [UEL] but am still having problems.
What I'm trying to achieve is: I have an adsl router (TP-link W8960N) at the front of the house but the wireless signal does not reach all the way to the end of the house. I am trying to set up the aironet 1142n to act as a repeater and place it in the middle of the house and hopefully that will extend the wireless signal to the end of the house and remove the dead spots. I would like to do this without having ethernet cables running all over the place and have been trying to configure the aironet 1142n to no avail. Every time I set the aironet 1142n to "repeater" it automatically coverts back to "access point" under role of radio network.
I guess my main question first of all is, can I set the aironet 1142n as a wireless repeater? And if so, where am I going wrong in my configuration?
I've just read that " Repeater access points running Cisco IOS software cannot associate to parent access points that that do not run Cisco IOS software."
Does this mean the aironet 1142n set up as a repeater will not work if the original access point (in this case, the TP Link adsl wireless router) isn't a cisco brand?
Can the Aironet 1310 setup as a repeater? I could not make the AP as the repeater associated to another 1310 ap. This AP is running LADAP.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDo I have to hard wire both routers to use cascading routers technique? I've been reading up on how to do this, but have not yet quite tried. I know someone will say extender and/or repeater, but I want to know if I can use a second router to extend the wireless signal further; i.e., bounce it from modem/gateway/wireless router (dlink) to wireless router (linksys wrt160n) then to my laptop? I have to go from one building to another and currently the wireless signal is quite weak (hence, someone will likely say repeater/extender). I already have the linksys. The dlink belongs to someone else, but I have permission to access through their dlink. I can do the initial setup, connecting LAN (main router - dlink) to WAN (2nd router - linksys), but I cannot leave them connected.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced my working WRVS4400N v2 Router with an RV180W. Unfortunately I am now stymied, as I am unable to use WDS to connect my WAP4410N to the RV180W to fill a dead spot. I tried calling support (case # 623405011) but we were unable to get communications working correctly - even when the two devices were less than 5 feet apart. The engineer's final suggestion wwas to put the WAP4410N bact to factory default, connect it to a laptop, and compare settings side-by-side...thats 2 hours of my life I will never get back as it was a useless endeavor. The WAP4410N is on 2.0.5.3, and the RV180W is on 1.0.1.9 (Both are on the latest available firmware).
My question would be what Cisco device would be best matched with this RV180W so I can use WDS and fill in the hole. I have no problem, just as long as it works and stays stable, as I had with the WRVS4400N / WAP4410N setup. Optionally, is there some other setting the engineer missed? The RV180W is my gateway router and primary wireless access point, I just need to fill some spaces where there is interference.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently just bought a Netcomm NP124 wireless extender as a computer on the other side of my house does not get within the range of my routers wireless. So i have opened the package and followed the step by step manual of how to set it up. it is as follows:
1. to initially set up the product we recommend you plug the NP124 into a power socket near both you existing router and computer (DONE successfully)
2. Plug the supplied Ethernet cable into your NP124 and connect the other end to the computer (DONE successfully)
*this is where the problem lies*
3. you can connect your devises through the web user interface. to open the web browser (internet explorer, Firefox, etc) and type 192.168.20.1 into the address bar and hit enter.
4. When prompted add in the username and password.
Before i keep going i must tell you that my desktop computer doesnt have wireless but my modem/router does so i connect my computer to my router via an ethernet cable. There are further steps but i cannot get past step 3. When i attempt to type the IP in the URL it says "problem loading page", "unable to connect". At all times my phone line is connected to my modem/router. These are the cable variations i have tried:
a) -ethernet from computer to NP124
-No ethernet connection from modem/router to computer
**this is the procedure outlines in the manual, does the manual assume i have a wireless connection
to the internet in my desktop?**
b) -ethernet from the computer to the modem/router
-ethernet from the NP 124 to the moder/router
c) now using an Ethernet hub:
-(ALL) NP124, modem/router and desktop connected to the hub at the same time
I cannot see why the IP does not connect, without this stage i cannot enter the wireless settings of the NP124. I have tested to see if other IP addresses work in the URL (eg the modems 192.168.1.1) and it works but the NP124 doesnt.
I have a wireless repeater (NETGEAR Universal Wifi Range Extender WN2000RPT) thats been giving me issues lately when attempting to use it to connect an xbox 360 I have to xbox live. The Xbox and the repeater are connected by an ethernet cable so there is no wireless connection going on between them. My router (Cisco WRVS4400N Wireless-N Gigabit Security Router with VPN) located in the basement of my house, and the extender is on the second floor of my house. The xbox that I want to connect to the internet is located on this second floor and because of the distance between it and my router a normal xbox wireless networking adapter doesn't seem to be working.Anyway, if I plug in the extender and let it get a connection, and use it right away to connect, i have no issues. The connection will also usually remain working for a while after I first get it working. The problem comes after I'm done using the xbox and i shut off the console and the tv. When I come back to the xbox later and turn it on, the networking extender still shows it has a full connection and is working properly on the outside with the green lights, but the xbox will not connect and it will tell me the extender is not assigning an IP automatically (DHCP turned off), when I know for a fact it is turned on. It is almost like the extender freezes after I leave it alone and on for a while. When this happens I usually unplug it and let it connect, and everything works as it should again. After a while its gotten a little annoying having to do this every time I need connection.
