I have a small mixed peer-to-peer network comprising 2 Win7 PCs, an iMac and a Win7 laptop and 2 little file servers: a Netgear Stora and a LaCie-2big.Stora is correctly listed under the Network part of Windows Explorer, but LaCie isn't, although I have been able to map a drive to a share on LaCie.No problem accessing files etc.Why would the LaCie not be displayed in the Explorer file tree?

I recently updated my firmware in my WRV210 router to Version 2.0.1.5 which is the most recent on Cisco's download page. After upgrading the firmware, I found that some of the administration pages do not appear to load correctly in internet explorer version 9.0.5. For example, the ADMINISTRATION -> MANAGEMENT page has data but to see the data, I have to scroll down about 3 pages. All five entries under STATUS do not have any data visible at all which is typical for most of the other administration pages. An image of the Status Router page is inserted below. I have logged in to the administration pages with an old version of Firefox 3.0.14 and the pages are visible. The operating system that I am running is Windows 7 64bit.
I haven't run across any other entries like on this or other sites.
I need to connect a OS2 pc with Windows Server 2008. However, I have tried the Netbeau (which can work in connect with Windows Server 2000), I cannot install the Netbeau to Windows Server 2008.

The "Local area network connection" is not visible in Network Connections. The Ethernet controller and adapter driver is properly install (no yellow signs). All Network services are also running properly.
The network is working fine, and getting an IP address from DHCP but has to restart the DHCP service once after booting.
At the company I work for, there are a few "network drives" to which employees are given access so that any mutual file stored thereon may be shared between and edited on demand. Not the best model, I know.Went to the server room a few minutes ago and found that "network drives," (P:), (L:) and (M:) seem to be invisible. Back at my workstation, I opened My Computer and saw all three on my screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have always been using internet explorer and have never had any trouble opening up web sites. However this week trouble has started when using a stock trading site. When I open up the "Home Page" of IG Index this opens in full no problem. But when I then click on the tab to open up the trading section section this opens but not fully. The tool bar across the top but the main body of the page, the frame, is blank. I have tried internet options, deleting history etc and disc clean up but to no avail. Have also tried system restore but no good. Have soken ti IG Index and they suggest changing from Internet Explorer to Firefox as my browser. I dont really want to do this as I am not a computer buff and I can see all sorts of complications arising if I change to Fire Fox

One XP machine is a netbook, it's rarely on and presents no issues.Here's the problem I'm having with the other XP machine:-My Win XP PC does not show up in the list of networked computers on any of the other machines on my home network.-But I can still access the shared folders by going to start and typing in \computer name.Win 7 will open a folder containing all the shared folders and I have no problem accessing (and modifying) any of its contents.-I also can access the PC via a VNC client set up on another machine and even have ports properly configured to access it from out of the house-I use this PC as a server to stream music to my iPhone via subsonic. No problem here either-I can access all the other computers from the XP machine in question.Since I can still get to the files this wouldn't be a big deal, except:-I can't map a network drive to the XP machine from the other PCs and I need to-I have an HTPC computer whose software can't find this XP machine because it's not there

I can however ping the windows 2008 r2 server. Using the servers ip of 192.168.1.230 Another thing is I cannot also remote to the server on the internal LAN. Using RDP.I ve even tried with firewalls turned off on the server for some mins.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have some issues with win 7 64 bit pro. I have 3 computers on a cat 5 wired home LAN using a DGL-4500 router and in yhe same homegroup. All are gigabit capable. 2 are regular PCs, one is an HTPC. All have the latest drivers.1) File transfers never exceed 12% of the network capacity.2) If I transfer from computer A to computer B's public folder, I can transfer 1GB in a few minutes. However, if I attempt to copy/paste a file from Computer B's public folder to computer A, computer A takes forever "discovering" the file, then gives some absurd transfer time, say 11 hours for the same file.3) If however I go to computer B and paste the same file into Computer A's public folder, the transfer takes only a few minutes.
4) If at any point during scenario #2 I right-click B's public folder from A during a transfer, I get the spinning circle forever which 90% of the time results in Explorer hanging and requiring the process to be killed/restarted.

I connected to one, then I went to the little bars to make sure it's actually connected, It says "Internet Access" (Windows 7) Which means it's connected. Then I clicked on Internet Explorer, to go on the Internet, and It says.. "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Then I clicked on "Diagnose Connection problem" It started to detect the problem.. When it was finished it said.. "Website (Yahoo!) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts."
I went to Tools, Internet Options, LAN Settings, and I checked the First two boxes. Where it says "Address" I put in [URL]then I went back, and went on the Internet but It still says ---"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Then I went back to Tools, Internet Options, and took off [URL]then tried again, then I went back to the Internet but it still said the same thing saying-----"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Then I clicked on "Diagnose Connection problem" and it ---started detecting the problem.. and when it was finished detecting it said...---"Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings."
You only want "Automatically detect settings" checked. The second check box if for a configuration script or the like to setup IE settings. That is really only used by company's that want specific home pages and other settings set to match their networks.If anything is checking in the "Proxy Server" area, I would uncheck it as you won't go through a proxy since you are connecting to a hotspot. It is pretty rare for public locations to use proxy servers.I connected to a hotspot that is available for Me to connect to. I have 2 desktops and a laptop accessing a wireless Motorola modem using roadrunner broadband. My desktop/Vista and laptop/Windows 7 are working fine. My older desktop with XP has a wireless card and shows that the wireless is connected with great signal strength but won't access Internet Explorer. I keep getting an error message. I have tried re-setting up the wireless and shutting down the machine ,etc. I have seen a few older posts that suggest downloading some software, etc

View 1 Replies View RelatedI replaced my D-link router with a new EA4500 last night.I can get to the internet, I set up 2 computers wirelessly, I set up a printer wirelessly.I am struggling with the NAS.I have a D-link DNS-323 which was previously connected to the D-link router via ethernet cable and worked fine.The Cisco Connect software does NOT have the ability to "connect" an ethernet-connected device, only USB or wireless.Windows Explorer does not see the DNS.The DNS- 323 has a fixed IP address which I know. I type it into my browser and it can't find it.I have shut down the DNS and unplugged the power for a full reset.I am running Win 7 Ultimate on my PC.

I want to run a main server where all the files are on that computer and have it share all the files to everyone else on the network. I'm not too familiar with Windows workgroup networking and file sharing.I want to have certain files accessible to certain computers and certain files accessible to everyone on the network. I'm under the impression that I have to have the main server with all the business documents. Then create separate accounts on the server and hand them out to each individual computer. After, go to each document and specify who can access what with read/write. Can I share some files to everyone and have certain files limited to other computers at the same time? How would someone access the shared files when you need a login and will this login conflict with files shared to everyone and files shared to certain people. I remember on my small business network I need a login for certain computers because it is shared to only certain people then how would I access the files shared to everyone when I have to login to see the server files to begin with?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSince some days we have a ASA5510, we connected it on a Windows Vista Laptop via ethernet cable (using at the back of the router the mgtm slot) and connect it on the network slot on the laptop. Laptop is getting IP addresses automatically.
Now we tried to reach the router in the Internet Explorer using: http://192.168.1.1, but we could not reach this site. When I try to ping the router via cmd and typing ping 192.168.1.1 I get answers.
For us it is very important to change the IP address of the router, as he will be used in a network with 10.xxx.xxx.xx addresses.
I'm setting up an ACE 4710 in our test lab before deploying in production. Do the test web servers I am using need to use the ACE as their default gateway? The are currently configured to use a multilayer switch on their vlan as their gateway but I'm guessing the ACE needs to see the return traffic for load balancing to work correctly?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (Win 7 x64) can currently access all the shares on the XP computers in my home network but,although I can see it, I cannot access the laptop from my main xp computer. I haven't tried to access it from the other xp computers downstairs. I have read the guide on this site as well as 3 or 4 other threads on this subject but am unable to resolve the issue. Completing the network setup so that I can look into my laptop from this main xp computer. My laptop has a wireless internet connection but I also have it plugged into my wired home network for sharing. I will provide other details as needed. I suspect that some essential services for file sharing may not be running on the laptop, but I'm not sure.
View 19 Replies View RelatedTrying to network between a Windows 7 computer and a Windows XP computer is possibly the hardest thing I have ever done.I have googled for hours and hours and none of the solutions seem to be working.I will try to explain what I have already done. Although I have done loads and I am sure I am missing some things.I have a Windows 7 laptop and for this exercise I shall call it WIN7. I have a Windows XP computer and for this exercise I shall call it WINXP.Both computers are in the same network which I have called SAMNETWORK. I have enabled permission to Everyone in folder sharing settings on WIN7. I have turned on Sharing and I have made myself discoverable with no password set on Network and Sharing Advanced Settings. Both user accounts on the XP and 7 machines are the same and both passwords are the same. I have turned all firewalls off. The WINXP computer has sharing enabled.
I have done a lot more things including installing LLTP (sp.?) and changing registry entries like Lsa/anonymous something like that (can't remember the actual directory) but I have changed registry entries as I have read elsewhere on the web and I have changed the network from home to work but that did nothing etc. etc. But everything that everyone suggests is just not working and I have been looking for about 4 hours now so you can imagine I have tried everything I have found!Anyway, my 7 laptop can see WINXP but when I click on it, it states that Windows cannot access \WINXP. The WINXP computer can see shared folders from WIN7 but it also states that it is not accessible. However, I did once get the WINXP computer to access the WIN7 shared folders. I am trying to add an XP computer to our (already) Win7 computer.Now...I have connected the xp computer to the external modem that gived the 7 it's signal by way of ethernet cable). I went through changing and matching up the workgroup names, and.....turned on "Network Discovery" on the 7 end....after everything is said and done...I DO get the internet signal to the xp, but knock out the 7, altogether.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to link a Windows 7 machine with a laptop running Windows XP. The workgroup on both computers is the same. On the Win7 machine, I have a couple of folders set to be shared. The first is the C Drive and the share name is C-drive. The second is Quickbooks that I have named Quickbooks. On the XP machine, I went to map network drive and in the blank typed \Remote1C-drive. It asked for username and password and just like that we were connected. But I can't see all of the files on this drive. I don't even see all of the folders - one of which is Quickbooks. So I tried \Remote1Quickbooks and Windows XP couldn't find that path even though I'm positive that folder is shared on Win7. So no matter what I try, I can't see this folder on the XP machine, I even tried copying this folder to other locations around the computer and setting up shares in hope that something would work, but it never did. So I went back to the C Drive share on the XP machine. I tried to go in reverse, creating a file and putting it on the root of the c drive (I did this on the XP machine, but the file should have actually been located on the Win7 machine. When I check Win7, the file didn't exist. So I tried the other way. I right clicked on the c drive in Win7 and created a new bitmap image file. Back to the XP laptop, that file doesn't show. But if I look at the c-drive on Win7 from the xp machine, I see several other folders and some of them like Program Files contains actual files. But some of them are just empty such as \Remote1C.
View 6 Replies View Relatedthis is crazy - when i came back from out of town i tried to see if my problem still existed. it did - the win 7 laptop still could not "see" the win xp computers on the home network but all of the xp computers could see the win 7 laptop. just before sending this reply, i tried it "one more time". wa-lah, the laptop can see the other computers. this happened once before, it was seeing them, i had to leave the system and come back the next day - when i came back, the problem had returned. i did notice when i came back from out of town, my power had gone off and came back on- but this was b4 i checked it only to find the problem was still there, as just mentioned, i tried it just b4 writing this reply and the problem was no longer there. i just rebooted the laptop and as we speak, i can see all 3 of the xp computers from the win 7 laptop. i really can't make any sense out of what's going on but am beginning to think its in the modem.

My old computer ran on XP and was connected to two different computers with access to the My Documents folder on each computer. That is all I need access to. I have tried everything to get my new computer set up so that I can have access to those two folders as they are extremely important for my job. I mapped the network drives from both computers to my new one and they access to my computer. When I worked from the Windows 8 computer and tried to access those computers I received an error message saying that access was denied and to contact my network administrator. I have access to other folders on the XP and Vista computer except the folder that I need to get into. I have brought in two different people who do freelance work and neither one was able to figure this problem out. For four days that I have been unable to properly do my job and I have just been emailing files and documents to myself. The XP and Vista computer do not need networked together either.
