View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got Verizon Triple Play. Basically, my Internet, TV and Phone all come into my house on a Fiber Optic line. Well, I take that back, I don't quite understand what the FiOS Phone really is or how the signaling works.
I have this All-in-One machine, the HP OfficeJet 7310 (link to product information). I hooked it up to my network (printer to router via Ethernet port) the other day and it works great with printing from all of my clients, well the printing does. I haven't tried the scanning portion, yet but I would assume it works just fine. What I didn't hook up, is a phone line to it. I wanted to know if there's a way to fax through my network, thus eliminating the need for a telephone connection. I figured there COULD be a way, if my Phone at some point came through the Fiber Optic.
I can not get onto the internet via dial up. The message says that I have no dial tone. Using the same line, I get a dial tone on the phone. I can get onto the internet via a DSL connection, but it will not make a connection when I have a telehone line inserted in the phone line jack. This problem started after the power went off and on quickly two times. I have followed all the instructions that I have found to reset the modem, but to no avail. Is it possible that the phone line jack needs to be replaced.I have a gateway laptop with Vista program.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago I changed over 9 HP Procurve switches that were previously stacking in series (yeah, daisy-chain) to a Access-Distribution type scenario with 2 (or 4 on server switches) Gb ports on each switch Trunked together connecting to a central full 48x Gb switch.
During this I updated firmwares on all the switches (most still on their shipped 5-8 year old versions) to the latest stable release (and in the process found out that HP switch firmware is absolutely brutal and untested - See ProCurve 2510G FW 11.16 as an example) .
I saw vast improvements across the network immediately after the change (wow, really? 9 48-port switches effectively sharing a single 1Gb line to the servers and internet was a bit slow? Don't tell my co-workers, they don't think that's possible ) .
The only thing that I didn't see an improvement in was on some Linux and BSD servers, which would top out at 11MB/s doing a SMB (SAMBA) transfer. These are managed systems part of our business system, but we still need to be able to pull local backups for ourselves. So I contacted our vendor. The vendor confirmed that the line speed is showing as 1000T-FDx (same as the switch is showing).
Vendor is now claiming that after these changes were put in place, the speed on their servers (and their servers ONLY) was reduced to a maximum of 5MB/s (~60Mb/s?) doing rsync transfers between themselves. And they are all on the same 2510 (48 port all 10/100/1000), which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me. Furthermore this is on the ONLY switch on the entire network that had an updated firmware already installed - that's not even a possibility here.
I put some windows servers on that switch and can get 60MB/s+ all day (SMB transfers). I've also tried from their one server that I can access to doing an rsync or scp to another BSD box, and max out at 15MB/s (with 100% CPU usage on the test box - I'm assuming the decryption is pretty heavy?)There is absolutely no QoS, limiting, or any possibility of throttling the links the servers are on the switch. There are no excessive broadcasts saturating it, and the ports and cables test fine.
I work as a System Administrator for a small company. Can i share a CD drive to all the computers in my domain. Or does this require any additional software to do all this. Because i tried to do it normally by sharing that CD drive and by which it was also available in my network. But when i was trying to access that it says "The drive is not ready". We use Windows operating system in our network. I even tried to google this but i could not find any exact answer for this till now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to map a specific domain name (say a.net) to a local (static) IP of a computer on that specific network, running Apache and used as a server.I did this by setting the Static DNS mapping configuration on my Dynalink RTA-1025W management panel. That works flewlessly on my iPhone and iPad, but does not work at all on any computer - desktop or laptop, Mac or PC, WiFi or LAN (tried a few desktop PCs, an iMac, a PC notebook and a MacBook Pro). On all of them, the browser is uncapable of resolving the DNS mapping, showing an error such us "Server Not Found".The only way I could override that behavior is modifying the hosts file, and that is not a solution for me, as the network is used by guest machines (say, as a public WiFi in an hotel). Is there a better approach for that?

I have a personal website sohebvahora.com (still under construction) where I use cpanel to administer it. I somehow lost all connectivity to my website midday and have not been able to connect back to it in a few days. Every other site I have gone to works except mine. It doesn't make sense. Also, I tried connecting my laptop directly to the Motorola modem and my personal site loads, so it has to be the router. I have tried different devices connected to the router as well, like my ipad, iphone, and other laptops, but the website doesnt load on them either

They had new voice and data cables run, as well as patch panel and telephone and cable modem equipment set up in new office The private telephone tech requested that I port forward port 8000 to the telephone equipments' IP address He also requested that I provide the Office Static IP address to him My question is--am I opening this office's network up to any security risks by forwarding port 8000 to his telephone equipment's internal system IP address and providing him the actual Static IP address of the office Internet connection?

I thought all was well until I noticed that my Magic Jack VoIP telephone began dropping calls after about 1 minute. My first course of action was to disable SPI firewall in router and reboot. That had no affect on the situation, then I noticed that my send light on my cale modem [ no manufacturer listed on unit] was not blinking as it has done before the router installation. I reverted to my cable modem to pc only set up and my Magic Jack worked just fine. I need to use the router for wireless, so I need to find a solution to this problem. I took a look at my firmware version and saw that it was not current, but I wanted to bring my problem here for a possible solution be for I flashed new firmware.

We have the phone line connected to an extension at the other end (where the Church is) >80m away. Any way of running a second concurrent router on the extension so I can set up an office with a VOIP number, pC's printers etc there too? We use Devolo ethernet over mains and wireless for the main building, but the church itself is on a completely seperate mains power supply so I can't use that. I could run 100m Cat 5 and locate a switch on that, but any way of achieving something similar over the phone cable which is already in place.

So whenever the 1st ISP Line is on full load it will automatically moves the users on 2nd line. The problem we are facing here is users who are getting IP from 1st ISP Line they are smoothly able to connect to Cisco VPN client but the users who are getting IP from 2nd ISP Line they are not able to connect to Cisco VPN Client. This is really annoying as everyone should be able to connect.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI just bought an ea6500 to replace my old Billion router and up to now all I've had to do is plug my phone line directly into the "phone line in" port on the back of the billion router. But I see there is no "phone line in" port on the ea6500, I don't use a modem and have used the billion router by itself for the past 6 years, is there a way to connect my phone line directly to the ea6500 somehow? My research so far indicates you can't do it via an 'Ethernet / phone line adaptor' as they are incompatable anyway.
The install guide seems to expect a Modem is being used but in my case it hasn't been and I would think a router should perform the basic functions of a modem anyway ?
My concern is that if I really need to purchase a modem then won't this potentially 'throttle' the capabilities of the ea6500 which is the reason I've bought it in the first place ?
If I do need to purchase a modem to get my ea6500 working then what specs should I be looking for ??
I am running a zyxel nsa-325 series Network Storage device with 6 TBs of HD space. This NAS has a Linux kernel and 512mg of DDRIII ram. It is also running a Polkast personal cloud application that enables access to all the files through a simple UI rather than having to use FTP server login credentials (which I have also set-up).My home office is set up with Frontier as the ISP and they provide a locked down router/modem that you are not "supposed" to replace. It is made by speedstream and does not allow editing of the dns server or anything else that would be considered needed.I have set it up as the primary router with an ip range of 192.168.0.1 with a subnet of 250.250.250.0..I have several devices (printers, PC's etc plugged into this device via lan.Wireless broadcast and access is disabled...
My primary router is a Sapido 5000 series Gigabit router.I have this router broadcasting a wirelessB/G/N siganl for mobile devices to connect to. The NAS that I opened the thread with is plugged into this router via lan (Cat7).The Ip range of this router is set at 192.168.1.1 with a subnet of 250.250.250.0.All devices on the sapido router have access to the internet, as well as the services of the first router (networked printers, and speedstream router login for admin if needed).I can access the Zyxel NAS (192.168.1.104) from the PCs (192.168.0.2) connected to the speedstream, as well as the mobile devices and laptops (192.168.1.110-150) connected to the sapido.I have installed polkast which is an application that runs in the background on the NAS. It allows web access to all of the files (work docs, multi-media, ebooks, iso files, batch files for utilities etc. from a cell phone, tablet, pc, laptop, any device I want. I should be able to access the files from the web and also on the local WLAN to allow file transfers from the NAS to the device in seconds..When I am on the WLAN I can copy/stream a video file that is approximately 1GB in seconds. However, When I am on 3g 4g or at another location I do not have access. Polkast has simply said that I have an incorrect network configuration. I have confirmed that allk the Polkast side settings are fine and their user support has also confirmed that everything is as it should be. So they insist that the problem lies with my 2 routers. Their suggestion was to go back to using 1 router (HeeHee). I can RDP into any computer on my network from anywhere in the world. So the configurations seem fine. I also have FTP access to the NAS so I believe the ports are all forwarded correctly.
