Is there an easy way to just add diskspace like as an external storage or whatever without having to rebuild server and rebuild raid?

I was thinking encryption for one more level of safety just incase something happened to the server, like theft or something but not sure what could reliably handle that much data ? If i leave it default the VM server gets a default IP of 192.168.13.138.

There is a button next to it that says "claim", which I press, but nothing happens.I don't have the option to create a shared folder, and I can't access the drive from my Mac.On a somewhat related note, I've enabled the media server and can find it on my PS3, but there is nothing in the root folders. 2 how do I make the 2 PC be able to access the server?
First network card have the static IP address 82.x.x.30 from the ISP.The second network card have 2 IP addresses: 192.x.x.0 and 82.x.x.1 ( first IP is for LAN and second IP is for routing the additional IP class). In other words if i have the computer "Z" with configuration: IP: 82.x.x.100 Sub: 255.255.255.128 and GTW:82.x.x.1 i can access the internet but practically with with the IP from ISP wich is 82.x.x.30

I want to setup my home network to run a DLNA server for videos, music, etc. I know that there are many new routers and NAS devices out there that now have the capability to run a DLNA server built-in. My question is, which would provide a better DLNA server: one that is built into the router or one that is built into the NAS device?

I need to set up remote access to my HDD connected to my WDR4300, so I can always go online when I am out to retrieve the saved files in the HDD. However I have zero knowledge of network setting of the FTP servers, I can gain access when I am home and connected to the Wireless network, but how to gain access remotely.
I am wondering if all routers that have a USB port to which network storage can be attached, support the functionality to enable that storage to be accessed from outside the network. If this is true how (in a conceptual sense) can the router be configured to do this and what are the security implications?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter using my 2 TB WD network storage device on other systems both wirelessly and via an ethernet connection, I decided to install the device on a new system via a wired connection. Unfortunately, my computer (WIN XP) won't recognise the device when using a direct connection though my talk talk supplied D-LINK wireless router. I have contacted WD and talktalk and gone through all the diagnostic processes but it still won't recognise the device. I have been able to connect this device through an older D-LINK router (still wireless) on the same talk talk ISP with no problems so I can't understand why it won't connect here. The WD device reports no problems but I can't access it, even when all firewall and AV programs are disabled.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my wireless router to a D-Link DIR-655. I have 2 PCs and a network storage device (D-Link DNS 321) connected via ethernet to the router. I also have an xBox 360 connected wirelessly to the router. The xBox is able to connect to the internet via the router, but it cannot connect to (see) the PC's or the network storage device. It was able to do so with my old wireless router (a Belkin), but it stopped with the DIR-655.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a NAS enclosure to use my WD IDE hard drive as a networked drive. I configured the hard drive's jumper setting as single (no jumper). I installed the hard drive in the enclosure and connected the Cat 5e cable to the back of the DIR-655 router. When I tried mapping to the drive, I receive the error:
\STORAGE-3B25 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Network error (1208).
I suspect perhaps that I might need to change a setting on my router to allow me to access the NAS. The NAS ip address is visible on the router's admin page and I am able to see it when searching for network drives in my laptop. But I just somehow can't connect to it. I am running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.
I would like to turn on continuous video recording and have it sent to a drive on the same network as the camera without going through a computer. Is there a way to setup the "storage folder" as a network drive? For example my network drive is accessed at \192.168.0.1volume1 through a web browser.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi've been using a VPN to connect to my home network from elsewhere for a few months. It's set up as follows:
PPTP
Maximum Strength Encryption
EAP-MSCHAP-v2 Authentication
Now I find out that MSCHAPv2 authentication has been broken and is no longer considered secure (even by Microsoft), so I want to change the protocol I'm using to make it secure.
However, I've spent 3 hours now researching this and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use a better protocol on my Windows Server 2012 home server. I've tried setting up PEAP authentication (still PPTP) a la Microsoft's recommendation document, but it requires a certificate. I've created a self-signed certificate but it seems I can't issue certificates (via this method) without being a member of a domain, so I'm stuck. I can't even get started with L2TP since I can't find the option for it.
My question is this: Is there a way to setup a secure VPN server using Windows Server 2012 without a domain? If so, how do I do this?
I have TV set box connected to modem router supplied by ISP provider. To the same router I connected EA 4500 to which I wired connected Network Hard Disc at which I store music, photos and films, which I can not access via TV set box. If I connect Hard Disc direct to the modem router to which set box is connected, access works fine.
Whar shall I do to establish accesability of Network Hard Disc over all network ?
I recently purchased a WAG320N, primarily for the faster networking speeds and the ability to attach a USB hard drive to my network. The only problem is that I have little idea how I get this network storage thing to work. Cisco haven't really supplied any documentation on how to work this.So far I've plugged in a hard drive and formatted it through the router's web interface, with no trouble at all. But, after doing this I have no idea how to access my hard drive on the network.I would assume that it would appear automatically on my network for me to access freely.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOn my network I have a wired PC running Vista Ultimate, a wireless g notebook running XP Pro, a wired PABT box for VOIP, an iPhone, a wireless g Mediagate MG350HD media extender connected to the TV in the lounge (about 10 metres away through 3 wooden walls) and I have a usb hard drive connected to the WRT610N router.I have only switched on the 2.4 band on the router - 5.0 band requires the client to have wireless N anyway, so since I have no wireless N devices it's no use right now?To manage my network I use Network Magic.
Problem #1. My Mediagate MG350HD keeps dropping it's connection to the network. I have tried using DHCP and a static ip for it but it still drops. The only solution I've found is toremove the blanked-out Mediagate from the network map in Network Magic, reboot the router, click 'search for new devices' in Network Magic and MOST times it will redetect and reconnect the Mediagate.
Problem #2. Trying to configure the network storage device (my USB hardrive) is a pain in the arse.In the routers storage tab I cannot make sense of the folder creation. All I want to do is share specific folders and all their contents on the network. Every time I go to assign access rights and click the groups over into the access granted column and hit 'save' it puts them straight back in the access denied column. Does this have something to with permissions on my PC? When I go into Network and Sharing Centre it now displays 'Network Storage', when I click into it 3 networked folders appear, when I try to set permissions on these folders I hit apply and the boxes I've just ticked blank-out again. The folder marked 'Network Hard Drive' (the one I set-up using the storage tab in the router) does not display the subfolders and the actual movies stored on them. When I try to change the persmissions on the using my PC, different folders, eg Movies, TV etc... I get the same blanking out of the tickboxes on 'apply'.Is there a step-by step graphical instruction I can follow other than the PDF that came on the disk with the router.

it works, but it is slow in copying files between my computer and it (8 minutes to copy 7.94 gig file between NAS and my PC via wire).
i am using netgear WNDR3700 gigabit router. replaced the network wires to the latest spec, and my computer has realtek PCIe GBE network adapter.
this is looking more and more like the NAS RAID 1 is the bottleneck.. possibly 7200 RPM drives would have kicked more ass?
I have been having issues with my home network since upgrading my router from a WRT54GS to an E4200. Prior to this I had no difficulty in accessing my home group or my home network. I have 2 laptops, both are running Windows 7 Ultimate, one is x64 and one is x32.
Laptop 1 (x-64) can access my home network in all its glory ONLY wirelessly...plug in the Ethernet cable and I can't access laptop 2 or my network storage...Laptop 1 is also unable to join my homegroup even after deleting the old one and creating a new one.
Laptop 2 (x-32) can access my home network in most of its glory ONLY wired...unplug the Ethernet cable and I can't access my network storage and it becomes unavailable to Laptop 1 over the network. Laptop 2 is also not able to connect to Laptop 1 even though Laptop 1 can (sometimes) access files from Laptop 2's shared folders.
Also Laptop 2 cannot see a home group created by Laptop 1, but can create a homegroup that Laptop 1 can see but CAN'T join.I have run all the trouble shooters that the system throws at me to no avail, they all say that I have an unknown network error that it can't fix.I do have internet access on both laptops regardless of wired or wireless, and I spent over 2 hours with Cisco "senior" tech support only to be disconnected and realize that they had no clue about this new router..
i have two routers in my home one is my main router which is Netgear N600 and another Airlive router that is acting as a access point in the second floor attached by an ethernet cable from my firs router (Netgear n300). I bought WD 3TB network storage and plugged it to my Netgear router, i am able to access my files wirelessly from WD without any problems. However, i can't access WD if i am connected to Airlive.... well i can but it takes time to appear in my finder and when i tried to install quick view for WD it can't find WD in the network if i am connected to Airlive but it dose appear as soon as i am connected to Netgear.
