View 2 RepliesI have a Motorola SURFBoard 6580 as my cable modem + router + 802.11n AP. I wanted to add an AP on the second floor of the house for better signal. I have read that APs from different manuafacturers are not necessarily compatible for seamless roaming. Well, I guess the worst case is to turn off wifi on the SURFBoard and get 2 identical APs, but that's not ideal.

I can connect his lapatop to our Motorola SBG 6580, but then cannot connect to the internet. I get the error that the DNS lookup failed. View 19 Replies View RelatedI reconnected my SB after letting it sit powered down for 6 minutes to lose all of its configuration and I was then able to get it to connect to Cox's provisioning site and was able to get online with it, had to then force my router to re-detect the connection and now it is also working.Last night my ISP had an outage, or something, and I was not able to connect for quite awhile, keep in mind that my modem was working all day yesterday.It came back up around 2:30 or 3 am last night but since I was rendering some footage in Sony Vegas I did not check to make sure everything was good. So I get on my computer this afternoon and find that I am not connected to the net and that I can not ping nor connect to my SB5101. Pings all say Request timed out.All of the lights that should be on are on: power, receive, send, online all green, activity solid amber, which is almost never solid usually flashing. So I power cycle it and my router and plug them back in but now the internet light on my router never turns green, just flashing/solid amber.I am able to connect to my router, a netgear WRG3500, through the gui interface just fine. So I connected directly to my surfboard and was still unable to pull an ip address or connect to the gui for it. All pings and address renews resulted in request times out or media disconnected messages.At this point it is looking like my SB has gone bad, but I do not see how that could possibly be. These things usually have downward slides into crappy brokeness, this was immediate without any problems for 2 years.I am connected atm with my old D-Link DCM 202 modem I had before this one, which does not want to talk with my router, not sure why.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't get my PC to connect to my broadband. I am running windows 7 64 bit and use the following:
Motorola Surfboard SB6120 modem;
NetGear WGR614 wireless router
I am able to connect with other devices (iPhone, Roku) to my wireless through the wireless router. My computer recognizes the broadband connection, but it won't connect to it. I get two errors when I try to connect:651: the modem has reported an error, and 638: the remote server is not responding in a timely fashion.I have tried connecting the ethernet cable directly to the modem, but I get the same results.Also, I have tried to cycle down the computer, router, then modem and turn them back on in reverse with no change in results.The connection worked until I clicked "disable connection" one day when I had trouble connecting (high traffic i think). Since then, the"home group" I set up originally with the connection wizard disappeared, and it had not been able to connect since then. When I try to connect I click on a small icon in the lower right that says, "not connected, connection available", then I click on the button to connect to broadband and get the errors described above.
I can't connect my router (WRT54GL) to my new cable modem (Motorola Surfboard SB6120).
Some info:
1) Cable modem works perfectly when connected directly to computer ethernet port
2) ISP is Optimum Online
3) Using Automatic DHCP setting on router
4) Using MAC cloning on router
5) I can access the router's admin screen from the PC
6) I can connect to the router wirelessly, but no internet access
7) I've tried powering down everything multiple times, still no internet access
8) I upgraded the router firmware to 4.30.14
9) The "link" light on the cable modem never lights up when connected to the router
I have used this router without issue for several years at two addresses on 3-4 computers. Two years ago, the cable tech (Time Warner) hooked it up when he installed the modem (Surfboard SBV5220) which also provides phone service.
View 5 Replies View RelatedLately my internet speed is lagging like crazy. It's a Comcast cable internet so it shouldn't be this slow. Each time I go to the internet, I get the tuning circle (Internet Explorer 9) for like ages before any internet comes on. It used to be almost instantly.
Is it my PC or is it my cable modem? I have resetting the modem many times but it's still the same. FYI: Windows 7 and IEX 9 and Motorola Cable modem SGB6580.
I'm running a Motorola Surfboard Extreme 6580 as my modem and main access point, but I have equipment downstairs in my home theater that I need LAN connections for. I want to set up another router/device as a wireless-n bridge to plug these into, and I don't want to spend more than necessary, but I want the best performance from my 6580. As the 6580 is only singal band, and my wife's computer only runs on 2.4ghz, I think I don't really need a dual band device, but a single band n device. I bought a netgear WNR2000v3 router, but when I try to bridge it (enable wireless repeating function) it tells me that I can not enable this function with AES, TKIP, or AES + TKIP enabled. The 6580 tells me I should use AES to get the best speed, and the WNR2000 won't let me use any security when bridging (the router's menu page hints tell me to enable WEP, but I don't even see an option for that, and it's pretty worthless as security I've been told). I think I need to return this WNR2000v3 and get something else.

Both Toshiba laptops used to be able to attain this but after reinstalling windows xp on this laptop, it can only achieve 8mb/s. The other laptop will get 20 mb/s whether connected wired or wireless. For the life of me cannot figure what has changed. View 7 Replies View RelatedI understood that service provider will use hardware Alcatel 6850 on the distribution/core and Zyxel 2108G on customer access level.query is that service provider says it's not VPLS which should work most probably through MPLS network of ISP.ISP noted that it would be direct 802.1q VLAN between two sites without any Layer3 on ISP side.
How to:
- understand what kind of connection this will be?
- is this connection is fine for customer?
- identify if this kind of connection will be fine for converge network (voice+data) ?
- what should I ask to ISP to clarify details?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post and I'm not very techy, but our home computer running Windows XP Professional recently lost its connection to the internet and I cannot get it back.This particular desktop computer is connected by a cable to the router. I have two other laptops connected wirelessly through the same router and have access to the internet, however the regular "J&A" network normally associated with the router cannot be connected to. Instead another wireless signal source called "DLink 4 (dlink)" is the connection point. This automacally disconnects when I unplug the router, so I'm assuming the router works fine, but the network is compromised somehow.

I have a new Dlink wireless router. Previously I had a Belkin router. The new one was said to have stronger signal. I am not able to connect via wireless to the router from a PC with Windows Vista. It works fine when I use a cable. Then I am able to connect to Internet via the router. Also, I am able to print on a wireless printer. It is also possible to use Internet from an Ipad with wifi.
The Belkin router had a different network, 192.168.2....When the cable is connected I can ping 192.168.0.1 but not when I remove the cable. In Windows Vista the connection has status "connected". When the cable is connected, the ipconfig /all is printed as below. It is a Swedish version. Some translated words:
Trdls = Wireless
Ja = Yes
Nej = No
Frnkopplad = Disconnected

My wireless devices are having a hard time connecting though my router. They see the router and can connect to it but cannot get on the internet. When I go into my router and check Wireless Status to see connected devices the window is empty. Usually if I reboot my router some of my devices will connect but if I leave them idle for any amount of time the connection is dropped. Suggestions. View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed a new DIR 601 last July (2011). It replaced and old Dlink 150 that I have used for a number of years.I connected 2 PC's direct to the router and bought 2 dongles and connected two remote PC's onto it (4 total). They are not all on at the same time - usually. The laptop is a gateway vintage 2004 and has XP on it. It is updated I use it everywhere wireless and not. It works wireless ok everywhere, even McDonalds. When I connect it to the home 601 it connects and connects, etc etc. and never does. I am using WEP and have a security key. I see the network on the network list and click. It does not give me an option to enter the security key and does not give me an error and defaults to "Free Public Wifi" (I think this is the internal card). I am sure the security key is the issue and cannot figure out where to enter it. I haven't looked in the registery but that is a spooky place in which to play and I avoid it. Don't want to run into the Blue Screen Boogy man. I did however do a search of the registry for the network name and came up empty. No surprise. Where do I go to find and update the security key to access the router?
