TP-LINK (TL-WR541G / TL-WA500G) Repeater Not Connecting?
Dec 31, 2011
My setup consists of the following: TP-LINK Router Model No. TL-WR541G and TP-LINK Wireless Repeater Model No. TL-WA500G.I've set the Wireless Mode Settings to Universal Repeater and turned on MAC filtering. My problem is that when I connect to the wireless repeater with a phone or tablet (both working on android) it just wont connect. It gets stuck on "obtaining ip address". The wireless repeater works fine with any laptop, pc, netbook etc. I made sure that all the MAC Addresses are entered correctly. Also the phone and tablet connect fine to the router, but when the router is out of range and it tries to connect to the repeater it doesnt work. I tried all the basic troubleshooting techniques i.e. turning off wifi, turning off repeater & router.

I'm attempting to connect an Xbox 360 console to a Linksys WRT54GL router (wirelessly), using a TP-Link TL-WA500G wireless access point. I've had this working in the past, but I didn't make a note of the configuration unfortunately. The Internet connection is connected to the router. The device hasn't been used for several months. During this time, I installed Tomato firmware onto the WRT54GL router, however I have since completely restored the router to factory defaults, by reinstalling the default firmware and performing a hard reset. Having reset the device, I was surprised to see that the Tomato favicon is still displayed when accessing the router's admin webapp.

I have managed to get the wireless portion of my router working for the two wireless laptops in my house (one is Win XP, the other Linux) and am now trying to connect via rj45 ports + ethernet cat5e cable, my router and desktop computer that is running Windows XP. My connection type, set when I setup my wireless router, is pppoe.I have my router connected to a SpeedStream Modem, my ISP is Bell.I am worried that I will have to purchase a hub/switch in order to allow the desktop (PC3) to access the internet, although it seems to me (from reading other internet postings) that what I am attempting to do should work with just the modem+router setup that I have.I haven't worked with Windows LAN networks before (wired, not wireless) I have only dealt with my laptop's wireless internet connections and it seems much simpler to deal with than wired lan connections.

Region : UnitedStates
Model : TL-WR841ND
Hardware Version : V8
Firmware Version :
ISP : optimum online
I have two wireless routers:
TP Link TL-WR841ND
and
TP Link TL-WR541G
I would like to:
use the TL-WR541G for my children wireless laptop, wireless ipad and wireless iphones.
I can turn this unit off at a specific time each evening as I wish.
The WR841ND is used for my wireless laptop, wired iMac, wired Roku stream player and wired Voip adapter.
I tried a few things but really do not know what I am doing and I cannot get both wireless routers to access the internet.
What I tried so far:
Cable modem ethernet out to the input on the WR841ND router. took one of the four hardwire outputs from the WR841ND and ran into the input on the WR541G I powered on the cable modem....it booted... i then powered each router up and waited for each to boot. I launched web browser and navigated to : http://192.168.0.1/ this allowed me to setup the WR841ND router.
it's current settings:
Firmware Version: 3.13.27 Build 121101 Rel.38183n
Hardware Version: WR841N v8 00000000
WAN type: dynamic IP
LAN IP address: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: enabled
Start IP: 192.168.0.100
End IP: 192.168.0.199
How do I set up the second router? I tried to disable the DHCP server on router 2 (WR541g) and change the IP but don't know what to change it to.

I am having a bit of trouble. I have a Belkin router (this is irrelevant) across the house, which is extended by the Belkin wireless bridge/repeater in my bedroom. The device in my room boosts my WiFi signal for my MacBook and iPhone, and the LAN (ethernet) port on the back allows my Debian server to connect to the network and internet. I have a Linksys switch that I wish to use, for I have another computer that requires an ethernet connection. Here is what happened:Debian 1 is connected via ethernet, no problem.I shut it down, unplug cable. Run cable from bridge to switch's uplink.Plug another ethernet cable into port one on switch, run it to Debian 1.

Just bought a new router and repeater for a wifi hotspot i am currently running.. I thought i was havng problems with the repeater after i change from router to a server, (and i'm now using a router in bridge mode) so the server is managing all the dhcp.. etc, Hence, the router is Running as an access point. The server which is a Hotspot Server does the rest. For some reason, repeaters, do connect to the access point apparently, but when connecting the client to the repeater (instead of access point) I can't get internet access. although i do get access to the repeater setup.and access point setup too.. or if that is the fact that repeaters must be connected to a router, not access point? should I use it as a WDS? or AP-wds? I have a Cisco Lynksys e1200 router (which i'm using as access point) and an Encore ENXWI-1AN45 3 in one range extender?

I have just installed an E2000 router in an upstairs office. The signal strength is quite low downstairs so my question is: Can I use a wap54g as a repeater. If so, how do I get the MAC address of the E2000?. The E2000 has two bands and is currently running at 2.4. Would the range increase if I changed the setting to 5.

I tried using this guide [URL] I followed it and set up all the settings the same but it just ends up cutting everyone off connected to the wifi
I know both these routers support bridging and they're from the same company but I don't know how to set them up.

I just recently upgraded my home router from a 615 to a 655, so I thought I would use the old router as a repeater bridge at another location.
I read that the DD-WRT firmware offered a repeater bridge function, so I successfully flashed the 615 C1 with the latest release 7/12.
I get all of the configuration steps, and even have set up client bridge mode. My problem is when I bring down the list of available wireless modes, repeater bridge isn't on the list.
Is the C1 version not able to do this? is there something else I need to do to enable a repeater bridge?

facing issues with TP-Link TL-WA801ND while setting it up as a Universal repeater. The AP is a Linksys E3200..and I got the TP-Link to broaden my WiFi at home, I was successful in setting it up, however, after a day or two I get prompted to enter a "WPA2 Enterprise" username/password.I DID NOT setup WPA2 Enterprise, mine is WPA2 Personal...it's peculiar that it works for a bit then reverts to Enterprise.

I want to extend the range of the wireless network using a 601 (or just a relatively lowend N series). Can I just set a 601 as a repeater? Not seeing anything in the manual that provides instructions. I don't have the ability to cable the routers together. I want to do it all wirelessly if possible.

My D-Link DIR-628 is at the far end of my house (next to my desktop and cable modem) and my PS3 and laptop are at the other end of the house in my living room. I'm not sure what's in my walls but it is NOT WiFi friendly!
[code]....
So I was thinking about buying a cheap N router and flashing it with DD-WRT and putting it in the living room.
I'd like this 2nd router to:
(a) Plug into the PS3 thereby "upgrading" it's crappy wireless card to something faster
(b) Have it act as a WiFi repeater to boost coverage on the far side of the house.
So is this going to work the way I'm describing it here? That's my current understanding based on what I've read, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something before I order the hardware.

I have the main router, which is SMC SMCD3GN from Rogers in Canada, and I have heard from MANY people that this router REALLY sucks..especially the range. And I myself also had problem with low signal in the 2nd floor of my house, so I purchased the wifi repeater (TP Link) to extend the range. I followed the guide given in the box, and everything was set up flawlessly. However, after a few hours of use, all my devices (laptop, tablet, phone) which are in the same room as the repeater decrease the signal again, to the point where it was before I purchased the repeater. Then if I disconnect the wifi and reconnect, the signal is full again. Sometimes I have to unplug the repeater from the wall and replug in order for it to work.

I have Dlink DWL - 2000AP+.
What I want to do is, to reproduce WiFi signal (from TP-LINK modem) by repeating with D-Link Wireless Access Point.
Here is how web interface looks. There is an option for repeating:
After clicking Site Survey I see all list of available networks. When I select one of them, the D-link saves changes then reboots. After that, Windows shows me something like that on available WiFi networks list:
<Repeated network name> 2
The problem is, when I connect to this network, Windows connects directly into root source, not to my WAP (I see this with inSSIDer utility).

I am connected to the internet via a non TP=Llink ADSL2 modem/router supplied by my ISP.I was using my TL-MR3220 as a 3G modem but no longer need it for that purpose. I was wondering whether I can now use my TL-MR3220 for two other purposes: as an additional wireless access point and as a means of linking equipment (i.e. printers) to the home network . i have tried connecting the ADSL2 modem/router to the TL-MR3220 via an ethernet cable (one of the 4 LAN ports on the ADSL modem/router to the blue WAN port on the TL-MR3220) but I can get no internet connection through the TL-MR3220.Is this normal i.e. something that the TL-MR3220 is not designed to do, or am I just using the wrong settings ? I have tried a whole range of different settings but none seem to work.

I am moving my office from one side of the house to the other which has real spotty wireless coverage. Most likely I will not be able to move the modem or wireless router, so I have to somehow increase the range.I did some research and poking around on forums, but I can't find a clear cut, number 1. What you think would be the best option to pair with the DIR-655.

Im in abit of trouble trying to setup a wireless network. Part of the problem is that I am many miles away and I've never setup a wifi-netork involving more than one device, that device being a router.I connected the TL-WA901ND to the router(a Thomson tg787) located in the house, this router couldn't be used simply because the SSID and its password is locked, and we sometimes have people renting the bottom floor and we would prefer a better SSID and a changable password for the network. The first TL-WA901ND(will call this one TL1(AP) from now on, the other being TL2(RP)) is set to operate as Access Point, having a different SSID and password for the network, and it works great. However, when I try to set the other one, TL2(RP) to repeater mode, with the TL1(AP) and that SSID/MAC as "target", it doesn't seem to work. I've tried using bot the repeater mode and the universal repeater mode but none of them seem to do the job.Is is possible to repeat the signal of an access point or does it have to be a router? The SSID and the WPAkey of the repeater is set to the same as the access point, is that correct? The access point is not the one handing out IP-addresses, the router is still acting as the DHCP-server, is that correct?
